ATTENTION 60 — attention (half-written)
the other girls had gone to get ice cream, leaving just you and minji on the sandy beach. the outing was suggested by danielle and somehow you were dragged into it as well. you wiped your clammy hands on the mat below you, leaning your head onto minji’s shoulder. the girl softened at your touch and placed her head onto yours.
slowly, your hand reached for hers, intertwining your fingers together as you watched the sunset. you were sufficiently tired out. hyein had managed to make you chase her around the beach the whole day, draining your energy. even after chasing hyein, you were forced to swim with hanni and danielle, discussing the newest idol drama shows. and after that, you had an intense debate with haerin about dogs and cats. safe to say, you were ready to pass out. minji had brought you to the shore, laying a mat out and bringing fruit juice to you.
“yn unnie, are you sleepy?” minji mumbles. your eyelids fluttered open, eyes crinkling into a smile and nodding.
“yeah, hyein tired me out so much.”
minji scoffs, laughing, “it’s not too late to back out.”
you frown, pinching her arm, “don’t say that, jinnie. i won’t leave you so easily.”
“why won’t you?”
“because i love you, minji. what type of question is that?” you ask, suddenly straightening up. minji winces, sighing and untangling your fingers from hers.
“i treated you like shit, unnie. i still don’t understand why you forgave me. seriously, if i were you, i would have never gave myself a second chance,” minji says, running her fingers through her hair, “i guess, i’m still unsure why you still want me.”
your gaze softens. to be frank, you had no idea why you forgave her either. if it was anyone else that came back begging, you would have gotten a restraining order and more.
“do i need a reason?” minji nods. “because you’re kim minji,” you place a hand on her cheek, caressing it softly, “we all make mistakes, especially since it’s our first. you’ve already apologised, why should i delay my happiness any longer?”
“but… unnie, i admitted to wanting to hurt you.”
you smile, “i know. and i still forgive you, because i’ve had those same thoughts before. when you came to talk things out, i was tempted to make you chase after me. but i don’t gain anything out of that.”
minji still looks unsure, uncertainty filling her eyes as she continues, “how could you have trusted me so easily?”
“can it be called love if there aren’t any risks? i was willing to risk my feelings and security to be with you, minji. in every universe, i’ll do the same. i gave you the benefit of doubt then, to enjoy every day after with you. i have no idea why i forgive you either, maybe it’s because you’re minji. maybe it was fate that brought you back to me. but do the reasons matter, when i have you in my arms again?”
the soft sounds of the waves crashing at the shore fade into the back. there’s no distinct chatter anymore. it’s just you and minji, staring at each other. her hair swirls in the wind, eyebrows furrowed as she takes in your every word. it’s moments like this that you gave up your guard for. you think about all the memories you shared with minji. it was all worth it.
“i can’t say that i’ve given myself to you completely, but just know i’m halfway there. let me be your other half for now,” you whisper, “to complete you.”
minji groans, “you can’t say these type of things. it makes me feel… i don’t know, feelings?”
“i make you feel feelings?” you grin, admiring the blush that slowly spreads across minji’s cheeks.
“yes?”
“that’s good,” you take minji’s hands into yours, “since you make me feel feelings too.”
your girlfriend smiles, one filled with affection. she brings your hands to her lips, placing one single kiss on them.
“i won’t let you regret your choice, ever.”
you feel warmth bubble inside you. your heart feels full. full of love and adoration.
“i’ll never make you feel that way ever again.” another kiss.
“i’ll give you my everything. my love, my patience, my body, soul, my heart. i’ll give you all my attention.” she leaves one more kiss on your hands, staring up at you with hooded eyes. you receive her signal, smirking and pulling her in for minji to place a final kiss on your lips.

you had almost just rushed out of your dorm, eager to see minji, but a certain bunny was blocking your way.
“oh? unnie, where are you going?” wonyoung stares at you awkwardly. she’s your confidant, your saviour in this group.
“going to see minji…” you confess. wonyoung’s eyes brighten and you can sense that she’s about to unload a tsunami of questions.
her face suddenly turns conflicted and she turns to you with a look of determination, “unnie!”
“yes?” you reply, a little wary of your group mate now.
“you have to ask minji-ssi on a date today, if you come back and don't do so, i’m not letting you in the dorm!” your eyes widen at her demand. asking minji…?
“wonyoung-ah, don’t act so rash… minji and i are still a little hesitant around each other—”
“no? danielle told me that you two are really close now? texting almost every day! and you even said goodnight to her on bubble!” if you weren’t so taken aback by her proposal, you would find her little tantrum cute.
you slowly nod to her request, “it’s true that we are becoming closer now but i’m planning to let minji take the first move again.”
“why?”
“don’t you remember that stunt she pulled on me?” you scoff, “wonyoung, I’m giving her this chance to finally show me that she’s serious. if she doesn’t take it, i’ll know what type of relationship we truly have.”
the tall visual stares at you, unwavering. you can already sense what she’s thinking, i don’t remember unnie being so calculating before.
“psh, unnie! you should have just said that from the start!” wonyoung rolls her eyes. you laugh awkwardly.
“can i go now? minji’s probably waiting for me.”
wonyoung steps aside and salutes you, her childish yet adorable side showing as she cheers you on, “don’t do anything rei would do!”
“of course!”
your manager doesn’t ask any questions about your budding friendship (or relationship?) with minji. it’s quite drastic to be frank, so you wouldn’t have minded any curiosity, especially from someone that witnessed firsthand your hatred for the young leader.
you pull up your mask at the thought of how brazen you acted. hating each other for nothing… well, at least it led to this.
this? what could you call this? even the thought of minji makes you flustered. the car’s air-conditioning works perfectly fine, but you’re still flushed to your neck and even your ears. thank god it’s dark, if not your manager would witness your similarity to a tomato. if over text she already makes you a blushing mess, in real life… you would probably be reduced to putty just by her voice.
it’s shameful to admit this, but you watched minji’s lives just to listen to her voice and sometimes even fell asleep while doing so. luckily none of your members have caught you yet, you would not be able to live peacefully afterwards.
“yn-ssi? we’re here.”
you thank your manager and pull your cap further down your head, hoping no one would recognise you and ask for an autograph. it was kind of vulnerable being out so late without any bodyguards or security.
you make quick steps to the group’s apartment, having visited once beforehand when the leader wasn’t around. hanni and danielle had invited you over to celebrate your birthday then, but minji was out doing a photoshoot with the maknaes of the group.
feather knocks resounded on the door, contrast to the obnoxiously loud pounding of your heart.
“minji-yah, it’s unnie.” if you were any more bold, you would have called her by her nickname. but you knew, chances are that hyein would be on the other side of the door and the poor leader would have to suffer a lifetime of teasing.
the door quickly swings open and gasps immediately leave the lips of the other members.
“yn unnie!” hyein being the first one to speak. she’s dressed in cute dinosaur pyjamas— you wondered where they got one fit for her height.
“hi! can i come in?”
the girls all step aside, revealing a bashful kim minji watching you from the couch.
“ah… you’re here already…”
“you knew about yn unnie coming? what type of unnie are you?! i’m dressed in some ridiculous pyjamas!” hyein whines. you try to argue that you find it adorable but someone else butts in.
“why else would minji unnie be so happy? hyein-ah, use your brain,” haerin retorts, dressed in an equally charming cat onesie. your eyes wander over the girls, realising they’re all dressed in some sort of animal pyjamas.
all except for…
“minji even took off her onesie because it was too embarrassing!”
“i took it off because it was too hot!”
“no, you probably thought you looked silly in front of yn unnie,” hanni retorts in english.
minji groans, “bro, i am not arguing with you right now. go bother haerin or something.”
you laugh, finding their whole interaction even sillier than how they looked in their animal onesies.
(and maybe a little attractive since minji’s voice while speaking english just feels so much more enchanting.)
the eldest has a pout on her face, arms crossed as she sits on the couch, unwilling to face hanni, who’s currently making kissy faces at minji.
“i’m sorry you had to witness that,” minji mumbles as you take a seat next to her.
“oh? it was funny though? i liked it,” you lean in particularly close to whisper the next few words, “especially the part where you spoke in english.”
minji turns to you, startled and cheeks ablaze.
“unnie…”
you lean back on the couch, satisfied with minji’s response and reaction.
“what’s up with this onesie occasion though?” you ask, genuinely curious.
minji looks baffled as she speaks, “haerin wanted to have a costume party… and everyone got roped in.”
“where’s yours?”
she sighs, “i took it off. it was so embarrassing having to wear that, and you were coming over, so it would be a bit awkward to greet you in such a silly costume.”
your eyes sparkle at the thought of minji in a onesie.
“let’s go to your room, i have to see you in a onesie.”
minji, a little hesitant, eventually caves in when you give her your best puppy eyes.
(the rest of newjeans watch on in disgust, happiness and envy, but that last one is mostly from hyein.)
minji’s room is spacious and clean, you realise. there’s barely a speck of dust and her bed is filled with plushies. on top of her desk is a cork board, one plastered with pictures of her group mates on various trips.
“i’ll go to the washroom to change,” minji clears her throat, “just sit on my bed.” you nod and take a seat on her well-kempt bed.
there’s a theme of bears repeated in her daily items; bear slippers, bear stickers, bear mugs…
you wondered if her onesie…
“oh my god, minji!” you exclaim, “you look so cute!”
truly, at that point in time, minji held all your affection. a clumsy and awkward kim minji, dressed in an adorable brown fuzzy bear onesie… you didn’t know how she managed to be so lovely.
you don’t even resist the urge to hug her anymore. minji was already your weakness. with the addition of the bear pyjamas, you could barely hold on.
throwing yourself around her, you snuggle into the faux fur, squealing, “jinnie, you’re so fucking cute, holy shit.”
minji, cautiously places her arms around your waist, returning the embrace.
“ah… unnie…”
“minji, please let me take photos of you,” you beg, and how could minji say no to a face like that?
“don’t post them though,” she mutters.
you stare at her, boldness in your eyes, “of course not, these photos are solely reserved for me, and only me.”
“unnie, don’t say things like that!”
after using up your whole storage on minji, you’re finally done snapping photos of the now shy bear that’s hiding under her bedsheets.
“unnie, are you staying the night?” she asks softly.
“i didn’t bring any pyjamas though?” you say.
minji seems even more shy now, as she whispers out, “want to borrow mine?”
ah, you think, gazing at the girl, i’m screwed.

ATTENTION 56 — wonyoung’s talk (half-written)
after minji had sent you a text, wonyoung bursts into your room, eyes blaring and cheeks puffy. minji awkwardly stares at her from your sheets, mouth agape. while she had briefly met your members during your relationship, she hadn’t had that ‘talk’ with them yet. no better time than the present, right?
right as minji was about to say something, both rei and jiwon come in as well, exasperated looks on their faces.
“uh…”
“sorry, we’re just here to collect wonyoung,” rei says, smiling as she hits the back of the girl’s head. hard. minji winces at the thud. wonyoung, however, doesn’t even bother acknowledging rei and instead inches closer to minji.
minji was grateful, don’t get her wrong, for wonyoung snapping some common sense into her and making her realise the importance of you. but she was also pretty terrified of the overprotective member. no matter you were older than wonyoung, minji knew of your importance to her. if you were to get hurt, wonyoung was your shield.
“are you going to hurt her again?” wonyoung asks. jiwon gasps and nudges her but she doesn’t back down, merely raising an eyebrow. minji swallows hard, “no, and i never will.”
“she was so heartbroken i couldn’t even laugh,” rei supplies, earning her a glare from wonyoung who frowns even more. “you shouldn’t be laughing at her anyway.”
“i talked to y/n last night,” minji explains, “she means everything to me. without her, there is no kim minji either.”
wonyoung smirks, “so you’re being overly reliant on y/n?”
“no, but she’s a part of me,” minji replies. meanwhile your other two members just stare at the back and forth between wonyoung and minji, choosing to cower behind the door. the interrogation was bound to be longer than an hour with the way wonyoung had stormed in. you might have even managed to return home by the time they were done.
“i love her, i can say that much,” minji says, “i don’t deserve her at all but she’s the one who makes the final call. i would be happy just letting her know how much she means to me. her acknowledgement is already enough for me.”
wonyoung stares at her for a moment (rei and jiwon think she’s about to pounce on minji) before sighing, “you’re right, you don’t deserve her at all.”
“why help me then?” minji asks, genuinely curious. if wonyoung thought she was undeserving of your love, why would she even text her to help her out?
“because y/n was sad without you,” she answers plainly. it was truly that simple. you were upset with the lack of kim minji in your life. wonyoung just wanted you to be happy again.
it didn’t matter whether kim minji deserved you or not. wonyoung wanted to see that spark return again. she wanted to hear your cheerful humming in the kitchen, a sleep-deprived yujin telling you to shut up. she wanted to hear your joyful skips in the hallway, gaeul telling you to slow down in case you fall. she wanted to see your face light up at the thought of minji. she wanted to just feel the happiness radiating off your body.
that was all she ever wanted.
“thank you, for making y/n happy,” wonyoung says finally, “even though she may be an idiot at times (rei silently thinks, mostly all the time), she means well. her intentions are pure. i hope you can appreciate that much.”
minji nods, “thank you for giving me this chance again. and for believing in me. i’m glad she’s as happy as me right now.”
the tall girl smiles, “good talk, kim minji.” she then turns to jiwon and rei, scowling at them and dragging them out of your room.
a notification lights up on minji’s phone. it’s you. minji subconsciously smiles before replying.

you giggle at the comment, it had been at least an hour since minji tweeted out your photo but the tweet had already received over five hundred thousand likes. the adoration your fans had for ‘ynji’ was severely underestimated.
“unnie,” you turn around, smiling widely as minji gestured for you to come closer to her. the younger girl was just so cute.
“yes, jinnie?” you shift closer to her on balcony. true to her words, minji had brought you out on an amazing date; flowers in hand when you first met, renting out a whole restaurant to avoid curious gazes and finally…
“do you like it?” minji had asked, eyes glistening with hope as she brought you to a penthouse in a five star hotel near your dorm.
even if there was a stunning view of city lights that you could admire, you wouldn’t mind just staring at minji.
“i love it,” you answer truthfully, “thank you for doing all of this.” the view was breathtaking, minji, the literal girl of your dreams standing against a backdrop of the city’s stunning silhouette. the balcony was beautifully decorated, and so was the bed, you had noted. you truly wonder if minji had specially requested a heart formation of rose petals to be laid out on the king-sized bed…
you wouldn’t put it past the adorably cheesy girl. minji continued to admire the view, and you, continued to admire minji.
“minji,” you open your arms, waiting for an embrace, “come ‘ere.”
the younger girl’s eyes light up even more, you swear you were able to see the whole universe in her eyes. minji ran into your arms in a flurry, sighing contentedly when wrapping her arms around your waist.
“it’s nice being here with just you,” minji says, “i don’t need to fend hyein off from you or be teased by my members.”
you nod in agreement. even though hyein was adorable, you could understand minji’s need for time alone without her members. you felt that way too; even if you loved them to death.
“do you wanna go wash up?” you ask after a few seconds of hugging. minji shakes her head. rolling your eyes, you retract your arms and playfully blow air into minji’s ears before running off to the bathroom.
maybe dives were right when they called you childish. not that you could be anymore childish than yujin.
“unnie!” minji cries out, chasing after you.
giggles erupt as minji tries to run after you around the hotel room, with you ultimately ending up out of breath and conceding when minji threatens to tickle you. as you recollect your breath, you realise that minji is standing awfully close.
before you make any rash decisions, you stumble to the bathroom, closing the door behind you and trying to calm your throbbing heart and red face with the cold shower water. after spending around half an hour just trying to forget how delicious minji looked, you walk out in one of the hotel’s robes. the younger girl perks up when you exit the bathroom.
“go shower, you stinky,” you tease as you flop onto the bed, sighing in delight. it was so comfortable; freshly showered, skincare done, everything taken care of… minji’s face scrunches up in fake annoyance as she walks to the bathroom.
you close your eyes for a short while, finally resting. minji doesn’t take long to shower, it only felt like seconds when she sits on the space next to you. using your palms, you lift yourself up, gazing at minji.
her hair tousled and wet, mouth parting and a water droplet dripping down from her neck to her collarbone…
it makes your mind run wide with imagination. you quickly turn your head away, if you didn’t, you might do something you’d regret. minji, however, doesn’t shy away and instead pulls you even closer to her, if that was possible.
“unnie,” she breathes, “can i ask you a question?”
“of course, jinnie.”
her eyelashes batter, lips pouting and cheeks flushed red. it was such a difficult choice— either staring at her hooded eyes or her mouth parting. you decide to focus on the latter. it’s strange that you have to look up at her slightly, with you being older, it was the first time you felt like you were weak.
“can i be your girlfriend?”
yes. a hundred times yes. you wanted to answer.
to be frank, you weren’t too shocked by her sudden confession. kim minji wore her heart on her sleeve, you always managed to know what she was feeling. and with the way your relationship was progressing now, it wasn’t crazy for her to ask.
“kim minji,” you gently trail your hand from her arm to behind her neck, pulling her ever so slightly close, leaving no room for her to look anywhere else but your face, “you can only be mine if i’m yours.”
the earth is big, and the universe is bigger. but nothing can compete with the adoration that you have for minji.
