we interrupt shitposting for irl news
I've been doing some freelance journalism this summer and I recently wrote up a Q+A for Teen Vogue about the epic highs and lows of the ongoing Atlanta Cop City movement
Consider following my Journalist Twitter for more (it is highly localized to Atlanta, but I share stuff about the trump indictment, wga/sag-aftra protests, and articles that i think are neat)

There's gotta be like a FEMA camp and/or coup thing being planned with Cop City being the first step because I can't genuinely think of any other reason why they're doing any of this just for a facility that HAS to be in that EXACT NEIGHBORHOOD.

So, Andre Dickens has lied about the total cost of cop city to the citizens of Atlanta.
Instead of the 30 million originally planned,
Cop City will instead cost tax payers 67 million!
That's more than twice as much as promised!
The majority of Atleans oppose cop city being built so that's tax payer money going to a unsupported cause without any vote.
If you are in Atlanta please attend the second public comment on June 5th. If not from Atlanta make sure this problem is heard about all across the world. With all the misogynic, transphobic, homophobic, and racist laws being pass right now, I fear that this facility will be used to further the fascism present in the U.S.
Not to mention the ecological disaster this will cause
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These pictures were taken by drone only three months from each other. The sediment and runoff from this alone far exceeds the national limit and it will only get worse with the chemical runoff from the explosives that will be used.
I know the world's sort of gone to the dogs lately but please please please don't let this go out of the public eye. If the police force can't train then the police force can't enforce these laws. I have a list of petitions and funds pined on my blog as well as phone numbers to blast if you want something more direct.

It's a forest. Just say it.
This is the exact section of South River Forest property that's becoming the "cop city" training facility for the City of Atlanta.
Tumblr media
I'm no expert on what constitutes a forest. But from Google Earth, this sure resembles one.
And yet the City of Atlanta put out some "facts" about the police training center being built here, and they're trying to convince us this is no big loss because it's not really a forest:
Tumblr media
Weird. They know we have access to the internet, right?
Whatever this greenery is (and I still say it's a forest) it's going away for the training center. We're losing a huge stretch of trees -- which was supposed to all be a public green space, per the Atlanta City Design -- while massive highways stay the same & even get bigger. It's screwed up.
Remember this:
Nobody regrets the forests we saved. Just the ones we lost.

CONTENT WARNING: police, violence
Some Stop Cop City TikToks caught my attention
and got me interested in learning more about Cop City. I thought I would share some of the information I found.
Tumblr media
from Police Foundations. These are not necessarily corporations that donated to Cop City, but they are to show that donating to police is something corporations regularly do.
Cop City is another name for the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Funded with $90,000,000 in taxes and donations.
Largest police training facility in the United States.
Located in the densest black populated area in Georgia.
Cop City is being built in one of Atlanta’s last forests.
Stop Cop City protester and environmentalist activist Manuel Esteban Paez Terán was shot “12 or 13” times by a police officer despite Terán not firing at the police. The cop did not face charges because the killing was “objectively reasonable under the circumstances of this case”.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr described Defend Atlanta Forest as “an anarchist, anti-police, and anti-business extremist organization” and 61 activists have been charged with domestic terrorism.
The Israel Defense Force (IDF) directly shares strategies with the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE). “The Atlanta Police Department and Fulton County SWAT teams had conducted training exercises in an abandoned hotel to remove “Hamas terrorists’.”
Corporations like Dunkin Donuts parent corporation Inspire Brands, Coca-Cola, Chic-Fil-A, Bank of America, UPS, Norfolk Southern, and more help fund Cop City with multimillion-dollar donations. Coca-Cola, UPS, Chic-Fil-A, and more made statements during the murder of George Floyd with things like “…end the cycle of systemic racism”, “creating social impact, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion”, and “building stronger communities.” Corporations often donate to police foundations.

Norfolk Southern is the rail company that’s behind the chemical spill and environmental disaster in East Palestine, Ohio. Its HQ is located in Atlanta.
Norfolk Southern’s 2022 ESG investment report says they awarded $328,000 in community grants in 2021, “such as money for a police department to purchase new life-saving or essential equipment.” That’s virtually certain to mean they donated to the Atlanta Police Foundation, the second richest police foundation in the country behind New York’s.
Police foundations are non-profits (so tax-deductible donations) who have the stated aim of “improving policing”. In actuality, they serve as a dark money slush funds, allowing corporations to fund police and gain a direct line to individual officers for when they want things done, while allowing police to do things that they otherwise couldn’t with private money, like buy heavily militarized gear or pay for propaganda content.
Most of the funding for the Atlanta Police Training Facility (aka Cop City) is coming from the Atlanta Police Foundation. The facility is intended to provide urban counterinsurgency training for police around the country and across the world, training them on how best to suppress protest movements like BLM in 2020.
That means Ohio’s people and animals are being poisoned to fund the extrajudicial killing of protestors and destruction of the environment in Atlanta, which will then be used to do those same things across the country.

Today in Atlanta, City Council has to vote once again to endorse the millions of dollars that will be channeled to the police and their allies through the Cop City project.
Hundreds of people lined up at City Hall to speak against the police training facility. The authorities cut off the signup process after the first 300 applicants, attempting to silence opposition as they have throughout this process. People are chanting "Stop Cop City!", "Let us speak!", and "Viva viva Tortuguita!" in memory of the forest defender police murdered in January.

CHICAGO ABOLITIONISTS SHUT DOWN BANK OF AMERICA BY GLUING ATMS IN RETALIATION FOR THE MURDER OF TORTUGUITA
20th January, Chicago USA.
via: Scenes
“CHICAGO, IL — Friday night, January 20th, Chicago abolitionists in solidarity with the movement to Stop Cop City and Defend the Atlanta Forest glued shut the card reader and keyhole at a Bank of America ATM and “Virtual Banking” facility in Chicago’s affluent Lincoln Park neighborhood (2428 N Lincoln Ave). They also left messages, including STOP COP CITY, DEFEND THE ATLANTA FOREST, and ACAB on the ATM windows and door. The incident was in response to the murder of a forest defender by police in Atlanta on January 18th, 2023.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bank of America is a top funder of police foundations across the US, in particular the Atlanta Police Foundation, which is funding the destruction of Weelaunee Forest in “Atlanta” to build “Cop City.” The intended facility would be a militarized police training compound, including a mock city for cops to practice urban warfare on Atlanta’s residents, particularly the Black and Brown and poor communities adjacent to the forest. In 2020, BOA gave at least $50,000 to the foundation; tax data from 2021-22 is not yet available.
Bank of America also bankrolls the Chicago Police Foundation, with BoA Senior Vice President Patricia Provenzano sitting on its board.
On January 18th, police in Atlanta murdered a forest defender, Manuel “Tortuguita” Teran, as they attempted to force people out of the forest to allow the destruction to proceed. This violence is further proof that police only serve and protect the interests of the wealthy and powerful – bankers and capitalists who will happily have people murdered and ecosystems destroyed to continue hoarding wealth.
From @defendtheatlantaforest @stopcopcity on Instagram, friends said: “Tortuguita was a kind, passionate, loving person cherished by their community. They spent their time between Atlanta, defending the forests from destruction and coordinating mutual aid, and Florida where they helped build housing in low income communities hit hardest by the hurricane. They were a medic, a loving partner, a dear friend, a brave soul, and so much more.”
Chicago activists echo the calls of Atlanta forest defenders to immediately stop the attacks on the forest and abandon plans to build Cop City.”

Lacey, Washington is getting a new police station. It's bigger than the current police station and included new areas for training. They are also going to destroy 12 acres of forest to build it.
Leftists here are calling it a second Cop City because of that which is Deeply misleading.
They are NOT building mock cities like the facility in Atlanta is, but "Lacey is building a second cop city!!" Is still starting to gain traction on tiktok. Google now shows me that's it's a topic on Reddit and people have quickly written news articles about it as well. This is a bad thing.
Who said they were building a cop city and why nobody is fact checking this is beyond me but here is a screenshot of the new plans including a size comparison with the old station. But if you wanna check their site yourself then here is the link.
Tumblr media
By all means protest the police station, it's ACAB everyday around here but ffs can we do it without stealing language and spotlight from another BIPOC movement and one that's gotten people killed??? Especially when its the ONLY movement that's actually protesting an actual Cop City?
Do not water down that movement by including non-Cop Cities in the call to action to stop Cop City.
Honestly, my concern is it's a psyop to take attention from the actual Cop City. This area of the PNW is a hotbed for Nazis and white supremacists in general. I do not like that a bunch of pissed off "leftists" are co-opting language and fucking with Google searches for the only actual Cop City. Especially when the plans for the Lacey police station are EASILY found on their site and nobody seems to care enough to fact check.
If y'all see this, please correct it
Also if you're in the area and wanna harass some government employees about it: They have public city council meetings coming up on Feb 13, 14, 20, and 21.

The report suggests that Manuel, who was killed during a clearing operation near the site for the future Atlanta police training facility, was in a seated position, “cross-legged,” with their hands showing “exit wounds” in both palms at the time of their death.
“What did we learn from this autopsy? Manuel was shot in the head through his right eye, in his left upper chest, his legs, through the abdomen and several times through the palms,” their legal team said.
“Manuel was looking death in the face, hands raised, when killed,” said Brian Spears, an attorney for Teran’s family.
[...]
“Protests by non-locals are inherently terrorism,” Second-in-command Atlanta Police Department Assistant Chief Carven Tyus was recently quoted as saying of the protesters.

STOP COP CITY & DEFEND THE ATLANTA FOREST
on january 18, georgia state troops murdered Tortugita (aka Tort, they/it) during a raid of the weelaunee forest in the city of atlanta.
“cop city” is a proposed police training facility planned for construction in southwest atlanta. the designated land belongs to the Muskogee Nation, whose people were forcibly removed by the state in the 1800s.
today, atlanta is the greenest city in the us. we are known for our tree coverage. cop city will destroy a significant portion of our forest, which is essential for climate change mitigation. despite being opposed by 70% of atlanta citizens, the state and local government is not interested in listening to us. cop city will consume 85 acres of land, some of it the site of the old atlanta prison farm.
since 2021, a number of people have been protecting the forest by living in the trees. Tort was one of those people, and last week they were murdered by police while trying to prevent the construction of a facility meant to train more cops to murder more people.
the tree sitters are peaceful. stop cop city/defend the atlanta forest are peaceful protests. there have been rallies and events across the country this week in support of atlanta forest defenders.
please know that the mainstream coverage of Tort’s death and the ensuing protests is not accurate. GSP will not release body cam footage from the raid that killed Tort. they will not release ballistics. all they want is to demonize the brave people in this movement. don’t let them control this narrative.
if you’re able, please consider donating to the atlanta solidarity fund & help other protesters who have been arrested over the course of this week. you can also donate to a gofundme in support of Tort’s loved ones.
the community has been devastated. please spread the word, oppose cop city, and remember Tortugita.

Did not have the U.S. government holding hearings on previously classified information and lying making confirmations under oath that they are in possession of alien bodies and ufos in order to distract from the fact that covid-19 is still the leading cause of death in children, the cost of living is astronomical, cop city is well underway despite Atlanta residents overwhelmingly crying out against it, we are experiencing the hottest & deadliest temperatures on record, the state of Florida trying to rewrite history to say that slavery was just a mutually beneficial unpaid internship, trans lives and rights are under attack, anti drag laws, FLINT MICHIGAN STILL DOES NOT HAVE CLEAN DRINKING WATER, anti-discrimination laws being reversed, Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action, Roe v. Wade undone, universal free school lunches are on the ballot, ongoing mass shootings, climate change, big pharma killing off people by withholding live saving drugs at ungodly market prices, the erasure of separation of church and state, AI surveillance being implemented to detect fare evasion for increasingly costly public transport services, the rise of fascim, proud boys showing up with military grade weapons at libraries and day care centers, the permitted attempted coup of the capital, labor union strikes happening all over the country, people dying of heat in Texas because evil landlords want to cut off cooling over an unpaid $51 utility bill, train derailments causing toxic waste spills, corruption within the highest court in the land, homelessness rates the highest its ever been, migrants and asylum seekers being kicked out of temporary housing, the cost of food, book bans, Miranda Rights no longer being stated, mayors deciding to no longer publicly disclose how many people are dying pre-trial in detention facilities, federal minimum wage still $7.25, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, oil pipeline constructions on native lands, something like 30-50% of the nation's drinking water contaminated with forever chemicals, the rich remaining untaxed, biden going back on his campaign promises to forgive all student debt, still no free universal healthcare, ICE deportations increasing under biden admin, the u.s. yet maintaining colonies, teens and women getting jail time for miscarriages and abortions, 100 companies globally responsible for 70 or 80-something percent of all CO2 emissions, we are living in a police state, diseases resurfacing after years with no cases due to rising temps, death penalty, public services being defunded to increase military and police spending budgets, and abusers suing victims for defamation cases in court so that they legally cannot talk about it, and setting a dangerous precedent in the process in my 2023 bingo card but here we god damn are.
