Leveling Astrologian has been my worst experience in this game so far (for context, I’m at level 66 now.)

I only have Two (2) mildly strong oGCD heals. One of them (Earthly Star) takes 10 seconds to set up and requires your tank to notice and stand near a tiny glowing ball. The other (Essential Dignity) feels weaker than Benefic 1 unless the target is at single digits. If I want to burst heal at all, I pretty much have to spam Benefic 2 under Lightspeed, losing several GCDs where I could be spamming Gravity.

The cards are super awkward to use with all the switching targets in your party, and their DPS boost feels totally inconsequential.

Gravity requires you to actually target the enemy, so the standard dungeon healing strategy of “keep the tank targeted and occasionally throw out a oGCD while spamming AoE” doesn’t really work (and not just because, again, no burst healing oGCDs like WHM’s Tetragrammaton or SCH’s Lustrate.)

Meanwhile, the job’s story is absolute shit. Every NPC is either a completely unreasonable Ishgardian radical Luddite, or a smug Sharlayan know-it-all that makes ARR!Alphinaud look like the pinnacle of humility. (Except the geomancer. He’s cool.)

So you have a job with the limited toolkit of White Mage and the clunkiness of Scholar turned up to eleven and stripped of their raw power. Your reward for struggling through multiple dungeon runs is listening to some girl ramble about how smart she is before she gets kidnapped by the same bandit every time. And all of this is assuming your tank has even a fraction of competence- AND THEY NEVER DO.

Why haven’t I chucked the soul stone into some bottomless pit somewhere already? Purely to get the Amaro.
