Arnold Rosarot - Oneshot (Grimm)
Tumblr media
Spending your summer vacation in Portland was quite frankly what you'd been looking forward to. Both your parents grew up here and they hadn't really decided to move until you were about to start high school. All your childhood memories were here. And of course, Nick was here. Your father and Nick had been inseparable since who knows how long. Even though you now lived in Florida, they were still pretty close. He'd been just as ecstatic as you were, maybe even more.
"We're glad you could make it, it's been so long. Last time I saw you I'm pretty sure you didn't even make it past my hip." you grin, hugging Nick as you stepped inside. He pulled back taking your luggage and Julitte smiled, hugging you as well. "It's so great that you're here. Nick absolutely adores you."
The male chuckled a bit bashfully. He'd always been pretty protective of you. You guessed it was a secret rule he made with your dad.
"I know it's been a while but I took the day off so I could show you around Portland. Up for a little sightseeing?"
"Of course! Let's go." You were eager to venture out.
~~~~~
The trip around Portland was amazing. The sights, trees, buildings. So much had changed, but yet it still felt the same. Nick informed you on all the unfamiliar places, and even added in on some memories you shared with him and your dad. On your way back you stopped by a grocery to get some things for dinner. Nick was browsing around, and you turned down an aisle to search for your favorite box of fruit snacks. Spotting it you smiled, reaching out and grabbing it. In your excitement you barely noticed the guy on the other side who reached for one as well. The collision of both your hands made it fall to the ground.
The male looked at you nervously, picking up the box he'd accidentally knocked down. He handed it over and you just smiled, taking it from his hand. "I-I'm sorry I really didn't mean to. I usually get that brand. B-But you can have it."
He was so cute, and a little familiar?
"It's alright, you can have it." you dropped it into his basket with a smile. He returned it shyly.
"Thank you."
"No problem, I'm (Y/N) by the way. (Y/N) (L/N)." His expression changes at that.
"(Y/N).." The way he says your name, it's almost like you've met before.
"Sorry, do I know you?"
"Yes! It's me, Arnold. Arnold Rosarot." your eyes light up in recognition. "Oh crap Arnold, how are you? This is crazy!" you pull him into a hug, and he laughs returning it. You honestly didn't think he still lived in the area. Then again he was more of a family person. He pulls back with an adorable smile, and the memories of your childhood are like flashes.
"You got so tall, you used to be shorter than me." He scratches his head with a chuckle.
"Y-Yeah guess I did grow a lot. "
"So what have you been up to, how's your parents?"
"Still together and bickering. "
"I bet." It felt like forever. Growing up you and Arnold were basically best friends. Kind of broke your heart when you had to leave.
"I work over at the construction site now. "
"That makes sense, even as a kid you were pretty good at building stuff. Remember when I broke the swing." He's laughing again. "Your dad was pissed. Think it blew his mind when I fixed it. "
"Of course it did, you were like ten. He thought you were some kind of swing jedi." Your laughter joins in with his, and your cheeks flush. You were so grateful to see him again. You want nothing more than to stay here forever and reminisce, but Nick is probably waiting for you. You're sure he won't mind though.
"Listen, I have to get going. I gotta make another stop for my mom when I'm heading back before the shop closes." your face falls at his words.
"Okay, well how about exchanging numbers. " you suggest.
"O-Oh! Yes, sure." You smile handing him your phone, in which he types in the digits. You do the same handing him yours. When he's done he hands it back and you wink. "Guess I'll see you around." he nodded vigorously. "Y-Yeah." you take off back towards Nick. Once you get back, Nick inquires the reason behind your smile. "Did you meet a celebrity back there?" he jokes, placing the items down. You shake your head. "Just an old friend." looking down at your phone, you put a little blue heart next to his name, saving the number.
It was good to be back.
Packing up the groceries, you and Nick make your way out. Nick stumbles a bit when the man walking runs into him. At first you think it's unintentional, but the smirk on the guy's face proves otherwise. "Burkhardt, you really should watch where you're going. "
Shoulders tense, Nick looks unnerved. "Blaine." He mumbles. Nick moves to stand in front of you protectively. Blaine's eyes mark you hungrily, and you shift. "You really should keep your little girl close, no telling what could happen to her."
"Are you threatening me?" Blaine raises his hand mockingly. "Of course not." The cocky look doesn't leave his face.
"Watch your back, Burkhardt, never know what might happen. " The tattooed male walks away, and Nick's jaw is set. There's obviously history between the two. Him being a cop, doesn't take a genius to know what went down between the two. Nick ushers you out of the store, getting into the car. He takes one last glance before pulling off.
~~~
On your way back, Nick was definitely preoccupied. "We're gonna be making a little detour." he pulls up to a spice shop.
"Sure. Just curious but who was that guy back there?"
"Criminal. I put him away a few years ago. He kidnapped three girls. Couldn't find any evidence, so he got a lesser sentence. " Well, he was definitely holding a grudge.
"Don't worry about it. I'll talk to my captain tomorrow. Get some officers to keep an eye on him." You know he wants to assure you, but you're not the same girl you used to be. Nick probably sees a kid whenever he looks at you, so it might be second nature for him to be so protective.
But you've seen and been through so much since entering and finishing high school. You could handle your own. You were just a bit concerned about Nick. If he knew some of the things you did, who knows how he'd react. You really hoped that guy wasn't wesen. If so things would get pretty hairy.
Nick enters the shop, and the bell jingles. The male behind the desk turns his attention from his customer, and he smiles once he sees Nick.
"Hey Nick!" you smile at the brightness he emits, and the customer bids goodbye. As he turns, his eyes widen.
"(Y-Y/N)!" you can't help but grin.
"Twice in one day Arnold, I'm starting to think you're following me." you tease. He flushes.
"I-I would never. I just came to get the spices for my mother and I-"
"Relax, I'm only kidding." You both smile, apparently oblivious to the stare the other two men send you.
"Arnold, you know (Y/N)?" he seems to have just realized Nick is there, and you're a bit confused when he tenses up.
"Yes! W-We were childhood friends."
"Awww that's cute." Monroe comments.
Nick turns back, giving Monroe a look. He fumbles, making a lame excuse as they both head to the back room, not before he yells, "Nice to meet you, Nick's niece." They both disappear. Now it's just you and Arnold standing in Rosalee's shop. You really didn't expect to run into him here, but you were glad. Arnold was looking around the shop a bit nervously.
"S-So uh Nick is your uncle?"
"Nah, he's just a good friend of my dad's. They are like brothers. Guess it kind of does make Nick my uncle." with a soft smile, you liked the reaction Arnold had. His cheeks tinted red. Your fingers danced on the counter as you started to move closer to him. When he noticed your advances, he backed up, hitting the edge of the counter. He turned back to say something, but now you were right in front of him.
"Do I make you nervous Arnold?" he gulped. "N-No of course not! W-Why would I be-" the hand resting gently on his cheek ceased his words. "You make me a bit nervous Arnold, but in a good way, you know." The softness of your voice left him breathless. You'd be lying if you said you didn't miss him. You were kids back then, so it's not like you could exchange emails. You just lost contact. Seeing him here so suddenly, it brought up so many feelings. The fact that he was still the same shy individual you'd known, well it was comforting. Almost like you never left.
Your thumb brushes his lips and he sighs, leaning in at the same time you do. The door behind opens, and Nick looks a bit surprised at the sight. He raises a brow, and you step back.
"Hey Nick, would you mind inviting my friend here for dinner tonight?"
Arnold looks between the both of you. "T-That's really not necessary. I don't want to inconvenience anyone."
"It's not inconvenient. I don't mind, I'll just let Juliette know." He replies, but he seems distracted. His eyes shift to the phone in his hand. "We should get a move on. " you nod. "Better hurry and get those herbs to your mom, don't wanna be late for dinner." Arnold is still a bit awed at what could have just happened? You wave, exiting with Nick.
Arnold is still partially frozen in his spot.
"Dude, Nick's niece, really?" Monroe's words make him sigh.
"You have no idea."
~~~~~~
The doorbell rings and you all but sprint to get it. Arnold is standing on the other side, wine in his hand. He's dressed pretty casual. A button up shirt and jeans.
"I hope this is okay."
"It's great." you take the bottle gratefully, stepping aside so he can walk in.
"Never thought I'd be in a grimm's house." He mutters under his breath, but you barely make out the words.
"What's that?"
"N-Nothing. I-It's a really nice house. "
"Mhmmm.." you aren't paying much attention because you're checking him out from the back. That stops when you make it to the dining table. Juliette sends you a knowing look, and you blush, taking a seat as she sets up the table. Nick assisted her. Arnold sits next to you.
"S-So how long are you staying in Portland?" He asks.
"I'll be here all summer. I'm interning at Nick's precinct. "
"Still can't believe your dad really let you apply to be a cop. " Nick calls from the kitchen.
"Yeah, I don't think he had much of a choice. He's always been weak to these puppy eyes." you giggle. Arnold smiles. "It fits you perfectly. You always were a protector." you watch him, and he clears his throat at your compelling stare. "It must have been hard for you when I left. Those kids." He shakes his head. "I got by. Couldn't really expect you to be there forever looking out for me. They got bored after a while, so it wasn't that bad." There's a bit of guilt on your part.
Nick and Juliette finally start bringing in the food.
"It smells amazing." you praise. Your mouth is literally watering.
Juliette giggles. "I aim to please. " They place the dishes down one by one. Once it's all set up, they take a seat and pass around the food as they serve.
"So Nick, how do you know Arnold?" The exchange between both males doesn't escape your eyes.
"He was a witness to a murder on one of my cases. "
"Oh." That's crazy.
"I-I was pretty scared. Tried to run even but it didn't work."
"But he stepped up when it counted, and it helped us book the guy. It's thanks to him we closed the case. "
You smile. "So you're a secret hero huh Arnold."
"I-I wouldn't say hero. "
"To me you are." His eyes lock with yours at that statement. Juliette nudges Nick with her elbow sending a smirk his way. Nick of course isn't as pleased.
"I have a gun." Nick states. You don't even have to look his way to know the words are directed at Arnold.
You just sigh heavily. "I swear you're worse than my dad."
Arnold appears adorably confused.
At this point you should just expect it.
~~~~
It's nearly ten. Dinner went surprisingly well. Nick sent some subtle threats in Arnold's direction, nothing you didn't expect. While they were busy cleaning up, you walked Arnold to his truck.
"Don't take anything Nick says personally, he's just really weird when it comes to me. It's why my dad and him get along so well. I think they're under the impression that I'm still a five year old."
"That's nice. I think they don't have to worry much. I can't see anyone trying to mess with Nick knowing what he is."
"What do you mean?"
Arnold starts scrambling for words. "W-Well you know a cop! He's a cop." He covers. For a while now Arnold has been hinting at something. He'd even muttered something earlier. Nick was also acting pretty secretive around that Monroe guy.
"Arnold, is there something going on here that I should know about." He steps back,
"I-I really don't think I'm the one to ask I just-" the sound of wheels screeching on the street grab your attention. You barely have a chance before your body goes into flight mode. The speed it's coming at can't be good and you grab Arnold, tackling him to the ground and out of the way just at the right time. The car skids to a stop, and when you look up, it's the man from earlier. Blaine.
"Burkhardt really thought I'd just walk away." Arnold looks alarmed, and you both rush to your feet. Blaine pulls out a knife.
"Time for some payback."
The rush of it all gets to Arnold, and you stare in surprise as his face changes. Blaine does as well, almost out of reflex.
A Klaustreich, great. They both turn your way in astonishment.
"A grimm!" Blaine's tone is almost accusatory. The shock of this might be just what you need. He charges your way, and you spin around, swiping your leg and knocking him off his feet. His back hits the ground harshly, knife rolling out of his hands. Arnold is frozen next to his truck. You're about to go and grab the blade, but Blaine kicks you in the stomach. You tumble to the floor, and at this point Arnold has regained some composure.
"NICK!!"
His yell no doubt alerts the male. Blaine is getting to his feet, and you are still trying to pick yourself up off the ground. Arnold grits his teeth. He just needs to buy a couple seconds. So against his better judgement, he rushes the male. It's futile. With a swift punch, Arnold is knocked to the ground. Your eyes widen and you hear the door behind you fly open. You don't even register Nick coming to your rescue, because you're clouded by rage.
How dare he hurt Arnold.
With clenched fist, you strike at him. The first blow he dodges, but the second he doesn't predict. Your fist connects with his jaw, but you don't stop there. One to his stomach, and he stumbles back, another to his nose, breaking the bone. The last one, you grab the knife from the floor, as you raise your grip on his hair, knocking him to his knees as you hold the blade to his throat with the intention of slicing it open.
"(Y/N) stop!!" Nick is standing there now, gun drawn pointing in your direction. You're heaving from the repetitive attacks, and your hands are shaking. Blaine looks absolutely terrified.
"P-Please don't let the Grimm kill me, I surrender!" He's pleading for his life. The adrenaline of it all is still pumping in your blood. It's the look that Arnold sends you that causes you to drop the dagger. One of pure unfiltered fear. It slips from your fingers, and you take a few steps back, releasing Blaine. He drops to the floor, still deeply traumatized, and Nick rushes over to cuff him. As he's doing so, he glances at you. There's a lot that needs to be discussed, you can tell from the look in his eyes.
~~~~
"Blaine won't be getting out any time soon, he's looking at fifteen to twenty five years. " Hank is giving the rundown to Nick. After you'd given your statement, your first thought was to check on Arnold. But you could tell you were the last person he wanted to see. He avoided eye contact during the briefing, and the moment he got the okay, he jumped in his truck and took off.
Most likely trying to get far away from you. A few more minutes of Nick talking, and they were heading out. The cars pulled off, and you just sat on the staircase unsure of what to say. Nick walked over, and you stood. Juliette had tried talking with you earlier, but you really weren't in the mood. After what felt like hours of answering questions, you just wanted to sleep and pretend this whole thing didn't happen. That it didn't break your heart to see Arnold afraid of you.
"We need to talk."
You turn your back, opening the door and walking inside, Nick following behind.
"You're a grimm, aren't you." Those words stop you, and the door slammed shut.
Juliette was in the back, she knew there wasn't much she could do but watch this play out.
"A grimm? Nick, that guy is crazy. He was obviously shouting out random stuff to get you to lower your weapon. " The dry chuckle you gave wasn't even convincing. You opted for keeping your back to him, because if he looked you in the eyes, your lie would fall apart.
"Really? Cause I'm pretty sure that's what he said. "
"Nick, just drop it. You don't know what you're talking about, "
"I know what I'm talking about because you're the same as me. " You turn slowly.
"I'm a grimm too (Y/N)." That's crazy, he must have been kidding.
"B-But that's crazy. H-How can you be.."
"I should say the same about you."
Now it made sense. The reason Arnold was so uneasy around him. The way he reacted to Blaine. He knew from the beginning what Blaine was capable of. No wonder he was so secretive.
"I guess we are related after all. " Nick states. You can't stop the small smile. Maybe that's why your father had befriended him so easily all those years ago. Deep down there was a bond. A blood bond. Your dad would freak when he heard about this.
~~~~~
Nick spent the next morning chatting with your dad, relaying all that he'd learned. They sounded pretty happy on the phone, you can sense the relief in his voice. If they were close before, they'd be near to inseparable now. He gives you the phone, because you know your dad wants an assurance that you're fine. You keep it short, bidding him goodbye once he's done with his mini interrogation. Hanging up the phone, you hand it to Nick. That solemn look, you've been wearing it since last night. He knows exactly why.
"(Y/N), it's never easy when people find out about all this. "
"The list of friends that I've lost because of this dumb secret keeps increasing."
"It will get easier."
You were still waiting for that to happen. Meeting Arnold really felt like faith. Right now faith seems to be playing a pretty cruel game with you.
"If you need anything I'll be in my room. "
"(Y/N) let's just-." You walk off, heading up the stairs. Juliette moves to his side, rubbing his arm.
"She needs a little time, don't push her. She really likes Arnold."
"They just met yesterday after years." He says in annoyance.
"Haven't you ever heard the saying you never forget your first love."
"Of course I have."
"Well neither does your heart." He doesn't truly get the concept, but he won't push.
"I hope she feels better." Nick mutters. Juliette nods.
"So do I."
~~~~~
The better part of your day was spent in your room moping. It was a bit childish, but what else could you do? Nick buzzed by every once in a while to check on you, which didn't help that much. You knew he just wanted to help, but there really wasn't anything he could do at this point.
"You have a visitor (Y/N)!" Juliette hums.
You just sigh. You really weren't looking forward to a speech from Monroe. You figured Nick probably sent him to make you feel better, but it didn't. There's a knock at your door.
"Come in." you're already prepared for it, so you straighten. But the man that walks in isn't Monroe.
"Arnold?" He's wearing a sheepish smile. "H-Hey (Y/N)." with a little wave he closes the door. You stand, turning your back to him. After it had all gone down, he just bolted. You're a little surprised he's standing here, in your room.
"I'm not going to chop off your head, if that's what you're worried about. "
A cheap shot, but you were hurt. Seeing him look at you like some freak, a monster. You'd gotten used to that look from so many other wesen. You never wanted to see such a look from him. You settle for keeping your eyes on the wall, you still can't look at him.
"When we were kids, I had a crush on you." you turn, staring at him, not at all expecting those words. "I think it was because well you always stood up for me. Eisbebers, well bravery isn't exactly in our nature. But you, to me, were so strong, even for a kid. It crushed me when you moved away. I missed my friend. "
Speechless, that's what you are. The meeting you assumed to be the ending of your friendship, well it isn't. At least it doesn't seem to be.
"Last night, I was scared. Seeing you like that, finding out what you are, it terrified me (Y/N)."
Ah, there is it.
"I-I never asked to be-" He takes a step forward, taking your hands in his.
"I know. The second I got home and thought it all over, I felt horrible. I just left you there. You basically saved my life and I repaid it by treating you like a killer.”
"I am." His brows furrow, and you pull your hands back.
"I've killed wesen Arnold. I'm not some angel and I sure as hell ain't that girl you knew when we were children. Things are different, I'm different. This part of my life is never going to change. I don't want or need your pity. So just leave. "
This was the best way to avoid future heartbreak. He needed to understand that there was no going back to how things were in the past. If he couldn't accept the way you were now, then it was useless.
"You don't care about me at all." He sounds so sad.
"Arnold, that's not what I'm saying! You're a wesen and I'm a grimm there's no way that we can-"
He steps forward, and the kiss he plants is so sudden that your body freezes. He pulls back slowly, letting out a soft breath. You just stare.
"A few years ago, I would have left and never came back. You keep saying that you're different, well so am I. I'm not the small runt those kids used to pick on. We both changed (Y/N). If you really don't think it's worth it, then I guess I'll have to respect that. But don't for a minute think it's because I'm scared. I'm not. Not anymore. Not of you. "
Wow.
Shy little Arnold really was all grown up.
"Arnold..being with me, it's almost guaranteed to put your life in danger. "
"I-I think I'm starting to handle danger pretty well.'' you shake your head with a laugh, pressing your forehead to his chest. "I want this Arnold. " You want him.
"Then it's settled. I'm your boyfriend." You look up, and he's blushing a little.
"Why the hell are you so cute." His cheeks darken at the compliment.
"I-I wouldn't say cute. I am a man you know. Generally the term is-
"Hot." You whisper, fingers brushing against his jacket.
"Attractive.." He offers with a nervous gulp.
You send him a little smirk, reaching up and pulling him into a kiss. His hands move around, holding you close to his body. His touch is gentle, so are his kisses. He's been longing to do this for some time now, so were you. This is all you could hope for. Taking a step forward, you don't even part from the kiss. Arnold stumbles a bit, when his calves touch the edge of the bed, he pulls back.
"(Y-Y/N).."
"Take off your jacket."
His nerves come in ten folds. "M-Maybe we should catch up m-more before we do this." You discard your shirt in one motion, and his gaze falls onto your bust. "I'm done being cautious Arnold." He can't find the words, or objects.
"Take off your jacket.." It's a whisper this time, and he does, hands pulling the article off his shoulder. He drops it, and you push him onto your bed. He falls back with a little bounce, and you climb on top, kissing him with so much need. Arnold is struggling to keep up, and he grunts softly when you pin his arms to the bed. He whines a little. You just giggle. "I'm in charge." you state with a grin as you give him a chance to breathe.
"How is that fair?"
"Cause I'm on top."
You don't expect him to do much about it. That's until he flips you over. An actual squeak leaves your lips, and you look up. Arnold looks proud of himself, hazel eyes sparkling.
"Seems now the tables have-"
"Less talking." You shut him up with a kiss and he has no complaints. One of your hands settles on his back and the other ventures lower. When you grab his ass he moans. You grin into the kiss, hooking your fingers into the hoop of his pants, forcing him in closer.
"(Y/N) listen maybe we can-'' You don't' have a chance to even make this situation look like anything other than what it actually is. The voice on the other side of the door is already too close. Nick walks in and Arnold pulls back in a hurry. He jumps off the bed so quickly that you're a bit impressed.
"W-We weren't doing anything!"
A pretty lame defense.
"Can you close the door on the way out?" you grumble. Nick looks like he's about to explode.
"Didn't you hear when I said I had a gun!"
"Y-Yes I did, I'm leaving. Sorry, sorry!" Arnold makes a break for it, completely forgetting his jacket and you just sigh. It's just you and Nick now.
"Are you trying to make sure I die a sexless life!"
"If I can help it, yes!" you just groan.
An overprotective grimm, what could go wrong.
