what is with celebrities in ads, when did it get so excessive ??

#usually i don’t see ads but #i’m currently watching a show on a free service that has ads because for some reason none of the 🏴‍☠️ options have english subtitles ?? #anyway i’m shocked at the sheer number of random ads that have big name celebrities in them #does this even get people interested in the products they’re peddling ?? #seeing famous people in ads just weirds me out it doesn’t make me want to buy anything #and the amount of money that goes into them…. #apparently beyoncé got paid $30 million (1.5 mil/hour) for that verizon ad #state farm (which has celebrities in like every ad now) spends ~$1 billion on advertising ANNUALLY #like that’s wild to me #capitalism is a disease
