picture this: cas comes back from the empty a few years down the line, and dean and cas have a very tearful, emotional reunion and they immediately decide to get together because they are stupid and also idiots and like two weeks of kinda fighting and fucking and spending time together and they realize. well. actually. we don't really love each other anymore. but like they don't break up because it's like. sunk cost at this point for the two of them. so they just like. live like that. i think it helps because they're friends and they are, like, technically a good team, but they're both miserable and they don't understand it and they don't do anything about it either.
