#another milestone in bi media representation
Just saw the newest 911 episode and WOW, a LOT to process. Post incoming.
But first, let me just say congrats to my Bi!Buck fam, we won!!!
And like, this is truly momentous, because it is rare for a main male character to be bi on mainstream television, but even rarer to see that awakening happen during his journey in the narrative after a ton of development over the seasons in a show. So major kudos to all those involved in that show and made it happen!!!

Idk if that scene in the trailer is about Adam being ready for his first time with Eric or makeup I think it’s for his big official coming out scene which I’m super excited to see. I only think this bc of how Adam is saying that he thinks he is ready to...that could either mean sex or coming out not getting his makeup done bc of how he says it bc it is a huge deal and then the way Eric says really feels like a really you are going to come out?? I’m so proud of you I think if it was about first time having sex his reaction would’ve been more gentle and soft?
Wow, you're right the coming out scene for Adam will be HUGE!!!! Also let's not forget that Adam is bisexual so hopefully it will be yet another milestone in bi representation in media *fingers crossed*, now I wonder, what does exactly 'coming out' mean for them? Adam already expressed his love for Eric literally in front of the whole school, so I'm excited to see what they're plotting beyond that.
Agree on that Eric's reaction to their first time would be sweet and soft and PLEASE LAURIE NUNN GIVE IT TO US I'M BEGGING YOU!! You're spot on, anon! Couldn't agree more!!!
Thank you for asking 💕

Hey Danielle, I was wondering what your thought on well bisexual people are represented in media. Sometimes it just feels like they make a bi character for brownie points but then won’t give proper representation to them. For example Sara Lance is bisexual but I feel all she does is sleep around perpetuate that all bi people sleep around. Then the term “I don’t like labels” drive me nuts because it feels like a cop out not to say this character is bi.
I was actually just on local public radio in June bitching about this very thing! I also have a blog post on the subject, but it’s a bit dated in terms of references now as we’ve moved into a sort of bisexual exploitation phase.
Here’s the thing about Sara. I’m a fan, especially since LoT gave her a legitimate romance with a woman to explore how bad she is at it. The sad thing is that she definitely does fulfill a stereotype by sleeping around, though she has the distinction of sleeping with ANOTHER bisexual character on TV which must be a milestone because I don’t remember two bisexuals even SPEAKING much less making out.
AND they took Matt Ryan’s Constantine and just made him canon bi in a single episode after the SERIES in which he starred was all, “er we dont plan to address his sexuality, it’s irrelevant to the current plot, we don’t really have TIME to mention his sexuality rn; we might give you rep for this canon bi character in the future though, if you’re good!” And LoT comes along like “what like it’s hard?” And has two bisexuals in one episode. Anyway, that’s my plug for Legends. They dug Sara up and took her out of the stereotype and fleshed her out, which is really ALL we’ve been asking for from the beginning!
We have been making STRIDES though since the last time I wrote about this, which is to say that we suddenly have a small handful of explicitly bisexual characters on television SAYING THE WORD BISEXUAL. Like it’s a good measure of where we were vs where we are to just point out that all you have to do to make me cry is let a character say they are bisexual on television. Now we have Rosa on B99, we have Grace Choi in Black Lightning, hell we have a SONG from an openly bisexual character from Crazy Ex Girlfriend. When I wrote about this last, it was mainly about how Orphan Black said the B word while Orange is the New Black starred a bisexual woman who never freaking said the word bisexual.
Not to say that this is a huge rush of visibility, but it is some, and with that visibility comes exploitation, stereotypes, and other *fun* marginalizing abuse. In some ways, I still feel like I can't even criticize bisexual portrayals because I am so happy to even have them in the first place. But we need to be portrayed as promiscuous less, we need to be portrayed as cheaters less, we need to be used less for titillation and tokeny shit, we need to be able to be bi with and without relationships or sexual encounters with multiple genders! We are not the half-assed answer to how executives can pull a queer audience without offending the homophobes, we are not confused, we are not "free from labels," and we are not "half-a-gay" for your diversity points. We have a lot to dig in to, as I see it, and I can understand why some of us are just happy to be seen at all.
