From conducting all my research it helped with my project as I wanted to include character sheets as the chapter breaks which I eventually scrapped due to time restraints which was based on the ones seen in my hero academia created which is a manga series created by Kohei Horikoshi and when I created a survey and distributed it via teams that had different sketches I only got 3 responses which meant that I couldn’t get a varied result and know what the class wanted 

Another manga artist which I researched into was the artist for blue dragon and dragon ball, Akira Toriyama as my project was eventually based on blue dragon i knew that I needed to look more into Toriyama and see how he produces his artwork in which he draws them on paper with ink and pens which is similar to how Horikoshi drew deku, My hero academia’s main character, on a video which I watched 

Some artists which I looked into but didn't research futher was frank miller and James stokoe as I felt that their styles didn't fit with my specific project and the target audience however if I was to do another comic I would consider looking at their artwork and style again to see if it inspires the comic 

I research into Ami shibata’s blue dragon manga which was in full Japanese and didn't make sense to me and I didn't like the art style for some of the characters as it strayed away from their original designs but I like how she included the characters from the original series as well as her own character which was made to fit into the blue dragon universe and futher helped with deciding that i should add my own character into my manga for someone to follow and help with some of the gaps in the story. 

Neytirix is an artist who takes a series/film such as frozen, Teletubbies and more and makes a twisted version which she speed paints and uploads to YouTube with copyright free music and although her style is a bit too dark for blue dragon the way she draws is both calming and the style elements could be transferred to other artworks and creations 

Also whilst scrolling through the blue dragon tag on fan pop I found 3 panels from a fan made comic which I don't know if they are by the same artist or by different artists but I felt like the 3 pages had the style and feel like it had been pulled from the show and made into a comic and sadly I cant find the creator of them to see if they have made anymore pages or content from blue dragon 

I was pretty lucky with my project as it wasn't affected by covid-19 and my research was mostly internet based with videos, images and search the internet for the English dub of season 2 which I found eventually, however it was on an illegal anime streaming website but it was useful for the dialogue which for flashbacks which I had planned to include in my manga

Project changes (From beginning to the end)

From my original idea my project has evolved massively, From when I started where I knew I wanted to make a comic for my Final major project but what I didn't know what the subject would be then however during my research I finally decided to do a manga, blue dragon which is now not as well known as other Shonen animes such as dragon ball, Naruto or much new anime series such as my hero academia, etc.

Blue dragon, personally is one of my favourite animes and one of the first animes that I watched and one I can rewatch which is one of the reasons why I chose it for the subject of my manga.

Due to blue dragon being a niche anime, meaning that not many people know about it, I want to make it more known for newer anime fans or anime fans who haven't seen blue dragon and see how similar it it is to Naruto and dragon ball which the art work was made by Akira Toriyama the same artist for blue dragon.

At first I was going to recreate episodes from the 1st season for newer people to read as well as anime fans who only read the manga versions of a specific anime then I changed it to do season 2 which is even more niche as those who saw the first season didn't know that there was a second season and the English translated episodes are only minimal on YouTube with the Japanese being more common on YouTube. It meant that I had to search through the internet to find the second season in English so it would be more difficult to recreate the second season to the same standards of the anime. 

In the end I decided that my manga would be what happens in-between seasons one and two which I could use the flashbacks from season 2 episode 8 which had a flashback with kluke and Andropov in a hospital after the war with the darkness (the ending of season 1) and then one where Shu wants kluke to help him and Legolas with the rebels going against Logi who was the 2nd antagonist after Nene (the xbox 360 antagonist and first part of season 1) 

I think that I made the right choice as it is an original idea which means I can include both the 2 flashbacks as well as new characters/stories which I could eventually make into a spoof or as a spin off.

Changes to the manga

in the original version of my manga I had the story start 2 months after the events of the 1st season however I changed this to 20 days after the events of season 1 as in one of the flashbacks in season 2 episode 8, her decision. Kluke states that she worked at the hospital after the war which meant that after the war against the darkness had ended, Kluke went to help the injured which contradicts the 2 months after I originally had, another moment which contradicts the 2 months later was when Andropov enters the hospital injured from the events at the end of the 1st season so i think i was right to change it from 2 months later to 20 days which i still think is a bit too long but fits more with the flashback events

I would also do 2 versions of the manga one which is black and white which follows how they look in Japanese comics and a full colour similar to the James stoke, godzilla comic

Although I was unable to complete my manga within the time frame, it did not help that before Easter half term I was still stuck on what episodes I wanted to recreate so I did not create any practical work, when I started it still took time to find the reference material such as the flashbacks in episode 8 season 2 which i could only find Japanese dub with English subtitles however after some search on the internet I found an illegal anime streaming website which had the same episode but in English which was helpful for my dialogue which is missing from the manga as I wanted to have the manga done with just the dialogue to add at the end however I can use this experience to possibly make more manga's for myself and for reference on how it will look if in an A4 format.

I will now be finishing my manga off in my own time and making sure it has both the dialogue and images and even create a version of it which will be in full colour like western comics such as the marvel comics or doctor who comics which can be seen at places such as whsmiths or waterstones
