You know, as a young ish person who's grown up in a primarily digital world, there's something really grounding about spending time with people older than my parents. Went to a Guild activity last night and it was delightful being with the older ladies there.
Someone offered to drive me home because it was over an hour back to my house by public transit. We're in a city, and she took me back to my home by driving through neighborhoods and back roads, in the dark, to a place she hasn't visited in four years, without a GPS (before I gave her a landmark to drop me off at, I gave her my exact address and she got frustrated with the search engine and said she would just use the paper map in her car).
A few weeks ago, I had dinner with a friend's parent's coworker/boss/friend, and she told me I would learn to find my way around and would know the area like a native. It strikes me that this is what she meant, but she wasn't right--if I were to live here for years and go about it as I had been doing, I wouldn't get native knowledge of the area because I would just be relying on GPS and not actually navigating. If I want to really learn the area, I have to pay attention in a way I only learned how to do (and rarely use) because I spent six months in a foreign country without a smartphone or computer.
The lady who drove me home said something to the effect of "you're new to the area so you won't criticize the route I take. I'm just going to take the way I know so I won't get lost." What I don't think she realized is that even if I had been here for years, I wouldn't criticize the route she took, because I lived in my last area for six years and didn't even learn the name of the highway I took weekly. Stupid GPS brain.
So I'm going to Guild meetings for a Formal Skill, but there's all sorts of other basic, hidden life things that I wouldn't learn on my own. It's also been striking to realize that there's a major gap in expectations about how people operate in the world. Nobody above a certain age who's talked to me about the routes I take seems to realize that I don't actually know the names of roads and exits, or that it's possible to get around. I don't want to continue in ignorance, but if I did, I could get around in a smartphone, live here for probably ten years, and only learn about four street names.

Week 11: "Given the amount of surveillance, can social activism prevail in China?"
Tumblr media
The word surveillance is binary in nature, gotten from the French verb “to watch over”. As in, watching over an individual or individuals to keep them safe, yet additionally looking over them to guarantee that they fulfil a specific guideline of behaviour. Thoughtfully, surveillance both empowers and compels, is utilized both to control and to protect.
Each society that has established norms has additionally mechanisms to authorize those norms. Surveillance, in such manner, is an important tool that disregards the privacy of people and groups to protect the privileges of other individuals and groups. Since there won’t ever be a society wherein everyone complies with each rule while side-stepping every taboo and tension, authorities will consistently utilize some sort of process to guarantee a degree of social and cultural conformity. And that process will unavoidably abuse somebody’s or everyone’s privacy (K.N.C 2019).
Surveillance in China….
Tumblr media
Across the Chinese government’s surveillance contraption, its many arms are occupied with gathering enormous volumes of information. WeChat accounts, medical history, video surveillance footage, hotel records and e-commerce data: It’s all reasonable game for the government’s surveillance system. However, taken independently, every one of these information streams don’t tell authorities. That is the reason Chinese government has set out on a huge project of data fusion, which consolidates divergent datasets to create information driven analysis. This is the way Chinese surveillance systems accomplish what authorities call “police informatization” and “visualization” (Peterson 2021).
According to Mcgregor (2020), China already has the world’s largest surveillance network, and it deploys over half of all surveillance cameras in use around the world. China’s surveillance systems and facial recognition cameras are presently being utilized to direct apparently harmless tasks like monitoring guests at tourist sites and leading security checks at air terminals, and for more instructive purposes, such as predictive policing and assisting convey with repressive arrangements. For instance, in the western province of XinJiang, the authorities have deployed widespread surveillance systems to gather facial recognition, smartphone, and other tracking data to monitor and detain individuals from the district’s minority Uighur populace.
Tumblr media
Sharp Eyes
In recent years, numerous new reports have detailed how BeiJing utilizes tech surveillance in XinJiang to quell its Uighur population. Yet, China’s endeavours to track its residents on a mass scale and introduce tech-enabled practices like predictive policing appear to have gone nationwide. In XiQiao, a city of around 300000 in southern China, for instance, officials have installed in excess of 1400 video cameras and more than 300 facial recognition cameras starting from 2006. Mass surveillance in lower-profile urban areas and regions reflects the 2018 dispatch of China’s Project Sharp Eyes, an ambitious attempt to equip 100% of Chinese public spaces like parks, train stations, street corners with video monitoring abilities and store up the information into one central platform. Sharp eyes aims to gather “virtual identities”, like phone numbers, WeChat accounts and MAC addresses (Mcgregor 2020).
Tumblr media
Thus…. given the amount of surveillance, can social activism prevail in China?
From my point of view, I think it is impossible for individuals in China to do so. China’s surveillance is continually expanding. In spite of the fact that they can utilize VPN to move past the blocks to have social activism on other online media platforms like Facebook, Instagram etc., they probably won’t get the attention of their target group as not every person will utilize VPN to move past to blocks.
To sum up…
China’s experiments with computerized surveillance represent a grave new threat to freedom of expression on the web and other human rights in China. Progressively, residents will abstain from any sort of critical or independent expression for dread that their information will be read or their movements recorded and punished by government. Besides, as seen from government’s viewpoint, social media is advantage for local politicians, disseminating propaganda and monitoring protests.

Top E-commerce Trends that Will Boost Your Sales this Year
Tumblr media
E-commerce is a booming industry and is expected to continue growing year over year. In 2018, almost 12 percent of all retail sales around the world came from e-commerce. Predictions indicate this figure will continue to rise to 17.5 percent by 2021. That being said, there is no better time to start optimizing your e-commerce store than right now. If you want to boost your sales, it is important that you pay attention to trends and adopt the ones that make sense for your business. Below are just some of the e-commerce trends you need to keep an eye on in 2019:
Faster Shipping and Better Logistics
Dropshipping
This is a growing trend among online vendors and that is especially easy to adopt if you are short on space or capital for starting a business. Dropshipping means that the vendor doesn’t keep their inventory on hand for the items they are selling. As the seller, you buy products from wholesalers or straight from the manufacturer to fulfill your customers’ orders as they come in. This model lets you start your own business sans a large capital commitment. Plus, you aren’t tied to a specific location either since you aren’t having to handle your own products.
Tumblr media
Recommended: What Is Dropshipping and How Does It Work?
Better Payment Methods
Convenience is a huge factor in e-commerce (and life in general). One of the best ways to provide customers with a hassle-free shopping experience is to offer a comprehensive selection of payment options. Besides allowing them to pay with debit or credit cards, make sure to offer PayPal and digital wallets, such as Samsung Pay, Walmart Pay, and Apple Pay. The growing popularity of cryptocurrencies also means payment through Bitcoin will become more common and is something more retailers will be adding on. Providing payment methods that customers are comfortable with and put them at ease from ordering online are a great way to build trust and encourage conversions.
Same-day Delivery
Consumers in the digital age value speediness, especially when it comes to order delivery! Couriers and other traditional delivery methods are far from obsolete, but more and more e-commerce shops are offering same-day delivery. In metro areas, some companies even deliver merely two hours after the purchase is completed. The faster you can fulfill customer orders, the more satisfied customers will be and the more likely they will be to return in the future.
Tumblr media
Subscription Services
You may think subscription services are a tired model, but you’d be surprised to find they’re still alive and doing well. Many customers like subscription services because it means they get their favorite products consistently and conveniently when they need them. Innovators in this space include Dollar Shave Club and Birchbox—who cracked the code for making subscriptions fun again.  For sellers, having subscribers makes it easy to predict your revenue and scale up as your customer base grows.
Purchases through Smartphones
More people are using smartphones not just to surf the internet, but also to complete their online purchases. Make sure that your site experience is taking this behavioral shift into account and mobile shoppers feel ***. On a related note, some experts believe that mobile apps will overtake web browsers as the preferred point for online purchases. Take advantage of this growing trend by installing mobile payment apps in your site or making your very own e-commerce mobile app.
Smarter Marketing Strategies
Mobile Marketing
Mobile devices have become an integral part of daily life, being tools for communication, education, and entertainment. As an e-commerce site owner, you can benefit from this trend by marketing directly to mobile users. Statista says that over 46 percent of users in Asia have bought products using their mobile device and these figures are expected to rise in the coming years. Moreover, the rise of mobile has changed the way people buy, with many consumers researching products before buying them from nearby stores. This trend, called Research Online Purchase Offline (ROPO), is partly responsible for an increase in the number of businesses pairing their e-commerce sites with actual, brick-and-mortar stores.
Tumblr media
Targeted Advertising
One of the best features of online advertising is the ability to show your ad to people who will most likely respond positively to them. Programmatic advertising uses datasets based on how users consume content to select the best people for your audience. One example is the Facebook pixel, which you can use even when using third-party e-commerce platforms like Magento.
Tumblr media
User-generated Content
Content remains an important aspect of a strong marketing strategy. One of the most compelling types of content you can use is the content your customers create themselves. These could be any type of media – videos, images, stories, or GIFs, and much more! The beauty of this strategy is that it allows you to engage with your community of customers, cultivate positive buzz about your products and establish brand loyalty in the process. Just encourage your customers to share content with your brand, lifestyle photography is a great way to show your products in action!
Influencer Marketing
If you aren’t using influencers to promote your products online, you’re missing out on the approximately 30 percent of consumers that have bought products from non-celebrity influencers recommendations. Having influencers vouch for your products – and your e-commerce site itself – could be one of the most effective ways to increase your revenue and marketing reach this year. Recommended: How to Do Influencer Marketing for Ecommerce Brands
Social Shopping
The power of social media is undeniable. Facebook, one of the biggest social networks today, had more than two billion monthly active users worldwide at the end of 2018. This means that selling on social media is an important channel to add to your e-commerce toolbox. Facebook now allows users to add a shop to their page, letting you tag products in image posts and videos for a seamless checkout process. Pinterest also offers “shoppable” image posts in addition to product advertising.
Improved Business Technologies
Tumblr media
AI and AR
Artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) are no longer just science fiction fare, they’re already aiding e-commerce sites in selling products. AR, for instance, is used to show consumers how products (such as makeup and clothes) will look on them even before they buy. AI, on the other hand, is being tapped for chatbots that interact with buyers, assisting them any hour of the day.  Recommended: eCommerce Chatbots: 5 Things Bots Can Do for Your eCommerce Biz
Automation
Keeping track of your inventory, among other tasks, can be a daunting responsibility. Depending on the circumstances, it may even come with plenty of room for errors. Automation is changing the situation, with certain tools performing tasks like loading and publishing your products, keeping track of your customers’ behavior, and controlling the flow of your ads for you. As a result, you are better able to serve your customers and provide outstanding service. Plus when used in conjunction with artificial intelligence, basic customer support can be automated to better serve your customers and reduce wait times.
Visual and Voice Search
Both image search and voice search are expected to become more powerful drivers of internet sales in the next few years. Image search allows users to search for products through their camera, which means they can search for information about the dress their friend is wearing or the car parked on the corner. This visual search technology isn’t as developed as voice search yet. Voice search allows users to perform a search through speech and is often performed with tools like Siri, Cortana, and Alexa. As proof of its potential, 58 percent of users have already used voice search to look for business in 2017.

Personalization
Exclusivity is a considerable influence over consumers’ decision-making process for purchases. E-commerce giants like Amazon offer personalized recommendations, as well as wishlist features, and their customers love them for these. This trend will become even more important in 2019 as personalization becomes the norm and an expected aspect of the e-commerce experience.
Conclusion
E-commerce is undoubtedly going to continue to grow and be a huge force for change in the retail industry. Optimize your profitability by getting to know what trends are on the rise and incorporating them into your business’ strategy. Read the full article

The Hustle Is Killing You
Long have social media superstars and startup disruptors proffered a cure to perpetual growth in The Hustle. Gary Vaynerchuk, he of sock-tasting for wine variety and excitable ne’er-do-quit entreprenuer, swears fealty to the compulsion of hustling, exhorting in homemade videos and glitzy conference appearances that mandate to never stop. Gary V preaches to legions of startup owners, founders, and sycophants who seek to replicate even a tenth of his success. His message bears a constant drumbeat of “Never give up. Always hustle to get the next thing done. To stop is to wither and die.”
Good advice, no? Good advice for businesses, government, academic, scientific, and many other communities. The fabled rule of the early bird getting the worm still applies in today’s rush-to-grow world because of the hoi polloi’s continued need to believe that the pace and intensity of work will one day equate to immense riches and startup dreams of their own. Tell-all stories from Thiel, Zuckerberg, Bezos, and even little guys that got lucky continue to inspire individuals to sacrifice everything in the name of The Hustle. That next phone call. That next meeting. The next deal. Relentless focus on goals. Everything in service of growth. Always on.
The hustle is killing you, though.
It’s hard to disagree with the simple promise of the modern work ethic though, isn’t it? You have to work harder than everyone else in the market to get seen, to deliver your product, to close enough money to keep people employed, to ever be focused on the new and the next. Product cycles. Acquisition. Contract negotiations. Fuzzy goalposts. Goalposts that move. Meetings, meetings, meetings. Never losing face in front of your customers and competitors. Turning chaos into opportunity.
The problem with every hustle lies in the power dynamics of who’s hustling. Invariably, a business - or other similar organization - relies upon hierarchical structures to function and grow. That means people at the top direct and manage people below them to achieve goals. One way to do that efficiently is to motivate a workforce with some core belief or principle that binds everyone to common purpose. Unfortunately, many choose hustling as that belief.
Not that hustling in and of itself is a terrible thing. Misapplied in the workplace, however, particularly from a position of power downward, the unrelenting pursuit of that which never stops will eventually damage the cognitive resilience of those subject to its edict. Hustling in this day and age capitalizes on the worst cognitive impairments brought about in our daily lives: 24-hour tethering to the smartphone. Ceaseless travel between meetings. Last minute planning and preparation. Impossible dedication to long days and crunch culture. Perpetual beta: “We’ll fix it in the next version.” How well is moving fast and breaking things working out for the systematic infection of hate and abuse in certain online platforms?
Worse, hustling became its own industry, the afterbirth of startup celebrities and media poobahs all seeking better ways to do the same things. Shameless promotion gets normalized by the Tim Ferrisses of the internet because he’s providing so much value, man!!! Helping us get more efficient at our own intransigence, our steep sprint down the depressive mountain. Chris Brogan has turned it into a pathetic infinity loop of reinvention, so much so that he publicly blogged about the dissolution of his family as it happened, addicted to being seen. He’s got books to sell too, man.
People fetishize The Hustle to the point of slavish devotion to all the negatives it brings about, becoming apologists for burnout and Asshole Leadership. Accomplishing goals becomes the driver for performance review, and goalposts get moved often when corporate whims or opportunities change. Those left behind become forgotten, or worse, terminated, often as expedient ways of dealing with interpersonal problems that a senior leader just doesn’t want to waste time on.
Some have become so enamored of the hustle culture that we have normed the concept of the side hustle. This used to be a clever euphemism for writing that screenplay you always wanted to in your free time or brewing beer in your garage after work. However, whole economies of industry underwrote their business models with legions of side hustlers seeking to line their pockets with an Uber or a Lyft job, yet receiving none of the benefits typical transportation workers do. Side hustling today leads to longer work days alongside other hustles just to stretch dollars further, all the while hoping to own something of your own one day whilst unknowingly trapped in this mercantilist service cycle.
To be sure, this is not an argument to a return of Olden Days when Jack and Jill reported to their abacus, cranked out documents for 8 hours and a lunch break, and skipped on home to 1.5 kids and a range by 5pm. These goalposts were too rigid, and they crippled vast swaths of American workers with slavish dedication the other way, to fixed processes and promises that could not evolve and support the burgeoning workforces in auto mechanics, coal mining, and other dying industries. People still punch time cards today but only in service to new industries, none of which come with their own long-term safety nets. Ask any code monkey who got let go in favor of fifteen foreigners working the same developer project for a quarter of the cost.
Study after study published shows people working harder, degenerating to unhealthier states, and falling into depressive conditions. We get trapped in cycles, hoping for The Next Hustle to alleviate our pain of diminished wages, unrealized bonuses, and unmet quotas. Franchising represents one such cycle: a perfectly legal pyramid scheme meant to enrich those at the top far more than those at the bottom. Ask any McDonald’s burger flipper: how’s your 401k? Don’t have one? Well, just keep at it and one day you’ll have enough money to reinvest in your own McDonald’s franchise, complete with your own employees to lord over, all the while Mickey D’s Corporate rakes in the highest of profits with the lowest investment.
Middle management. Red and gold uniforms. Weekly profit and loss reports. Cum in the cole slaw.
We commoditized human labor in the 20th century to such a degree that we accept it now as a system to classify our various stratifications of society. Working class, middle class, upper middle class, and don’t forget those pesky undocumented workers who do all the shit jobs you won’t. They’re hustling too, sold on the dream of an honest day’s work for an honest wage and too often exploited with the lowest of wages, dehumanizing working conditions, and easy racism.
The truth is that The Hustle is just another means of control. Control by someone else. The Company. The Big Boss. The Man. Whitey. It’s a mechanism to influence others to keep the machine moving with the promise of a reward at the end, one that doesn’t always work out because it’s built on the fantasy that everything will be fine so long as the goals are achieved. It abuses you, dehumanizes you, demoralizes you. It fucks you. And when it comes, it never asks if you want to swallow.
Hustling every minute of every day of every week makes you a fanatic, an inflexible driver of your own train with no cars, no matter how much you think your efforts are in service of humanity. You may be driving this train, but what’s the point if no one’s there? Worse, what’s the point if your hustle’s side effect contributes to your people actively hating or distrusting you? Hustling with no empathy or externally focused care in leadership is just mania or sociopathy.
Fuck hustling. Fuck the deadlines, the performance reviews. Blow them all. Skip a meeting. Go day drinking. Read a book, an actual piece of fiction, preferrably from an author you never would have picked up in the first place. Lie on a beach or in the grass and stare at the sky forever. Doodle on blank paper, whether you can draw or not. Piss outside. Forget to shower for a few days. Stare unseeing into the woods. Hike through hills. Adopt a dog. Or a cat. Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity and build a house. Smoke a joint. Dine and dash. Listen to an album from start to finish without doing anything else, maybe a concerto or some bizarre prog-rock from the 1970s like Yes or Rush. Lose your phone. Forget the internet. It’s killing you too.

Features of a Good HDMI Cable
Tumblr media
Light travels faster than sound is a science, but with HDMI cables you get both at the same time. So the question arises:
What is HDMI?
High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a cable that is commonly used to transfer HD signal entailing both high definition audio and video. It is widely used in the commercial audio-visual verticals and is found in most homes as cables connecting various devices like Xbox, BluRay Player, Playstation; DVD Player, audio-visual receiver, and other electronic devices with the television.
It is becoming a common trend where home audio-visual devices are being connected by this simple yet effective cable. HDMI also makes its appearance on laptops and personal computers, thus becoming the norm for commercial and corporate verticals – be it for education, digital signages, and presentations to name a few.
Black-i HDMI cable links a vast range of HDMI devices. It can be used to connect a small mobile, big-screen HDTV, home entertainment, huge projector or gaming device, or computer monitor, for example.
Other unique selling propositions of a good HDMI cable:
High data speed
Composition
Gripping ends
Cable ethernet
No lag
Compatibility with other devices
We have the right size cable that fits your palm and your pocket, ranging from 10-100 metres. Gold plated ends ensure high-speed data transfer. It supports resolution of 4K @ 60Hz. It resists corrosion and supports 7.1 and other multi-channel digital audio output.  The compact and sturdy design makes it handy to carry. There is no need for an additional driver and is used as a plug-and-play cable. The Black-i HDMI cables are completely made in India.
A sturdy cable is manufactured to cope with interference. Most homes have a lot of ‘noise’ be it the jam-packed rack, adjacent to electrical cables or devices. HDMI can be susceptible to such noises but the right amount of shielding around the cable can be a level booster.
Watch those HD films and play HD games from your smartphone/laptop connected via HDMI cable on your high-definition/LED colour television. Whether it is business or fun we have the right cable solutions for you.
Has there a situation arose where you need to send a 4K HDMI signal over 100 meters?
One method to achieve this by using ‘active’ HDMI cables. A passive cable connects between your components and transmits data directly from the source to the display. On the other hand, an active cable comprises a built-in signal booster that amplifies the data without any lag.
Few pointers for those using HDMI:
Cables must be placed firmly and the correct input is given to the output ports of all the components.
Check if the television’s output is selected for the HDMI port from where the source originated.
Double-check if all components, including the amplifier if using, should be plugged in and turned on.
Chances are low that your HDMI cable will pose any problems during the shelf-life. Switch to Black-i’s HDMI and USB solutions and don’t take a chance with ordinary cables. Make the most out of Black-i’s HDMI cables that ensure peace of mind with a limited lifetime warranty.

Great Reasons Why Our Products Quit Participating With Each Other
Soon after paying attention to a good number of movie pictures we are made to think that quite soon all of our devices are likely to be connected and chat amongst their operating systems and react to the voice directions. But not any visionary publisher expected what that would actually mean, around 2019: Setting up half a dozen independent messaging apps on your cellphone and 5 video-calling tools, non-e of which communicate. For certain we can quickly video call, Star Wars-style, however, we will have to determine whether we’re calling on Skype, WhatsApp, Messenger, Snap, or perhaps a brand-new program. The wonder of technology brought us the power to call a car from the internet and cruise with a unknown person to any destination, but we still can’t figure out in the event I’ll ever before be able to get my mother to call me on Google Duet instead of FaceTime, as I’ve moved to Android and FaceTime isn’t provided in my smartphone. Our smartphones on the market have become full of walled gardens, such that deciding on a mobile phone today means becoming locked into an entire environment of devices and services around that, and becoming blocked by anything that is not sanctioned. Corporations like Apple have also did start to find ways to extend their particular reach to other programs in an effort to a person in their environments. We needed to put up with a lot of versions from this struggle for many years now, naturally. Back around 2012, the software Instagram obstructed Twitter out of revealing embeds of its photos on the service, largely to drive considerably more clicks to its own app. Twitter, in exchange, suspended Instagram from implementing its own API to find your best friends in the program. But as the internet begins to creep in to our living spaces in ingenious ways, through devices like HomePod, Google Home, Alexa, and a variety of additional smart devices, the arena has altered. Now it feels as if we certainly have no other choice but to lock ourselves into a principal ecosystem, forcing each of our most special spaces to get defined by simply that decision. Take intelligent speakers, the front line for technology businesses’ fight over your household. Goodies just like Alexa or Google Home are generally your very first intelligent gadgets customers will purchase, and since any kind of smart products you buy and then must be appropriate for your loudspeaker, which one you decide on is tremendously essential. A nice example of the impact of that final decision may be seen in two of the world’s more trendy texts apps: Facebook-owned Messenger And Whatsapp. Quite a few apps are used by vast amounts of people, but they’re plainly missing from popular smart speakers like Amazon Echo and Google Home, that happen to be selling a lot. Then why? To be honest, Facebook would love a piece of the smart speaker action to use its Portal system. If you would like to generate a video phone with WhatsApp or Messenger through a intelligent assistant, you must have a Portal. You’re able to operate your Google-owned Nest thermostat via the Google Home simply by announcing "set the temperature to 76 degrees" aloud. But, good luck making it work together with an Apple HomePod. About the HomePod: You’d better believe that Apple’s brainy speaker will make it annoying to use Spotify, Apple Music’s leading rival. Alternatives , like the Nest Hub Max and the Alexa Show should have no difficulty installing WhatsApp or Messenger, just as Apple perhaps wouldn’t have a troublesome time more easily making use of Spotify. All of these aren’t technological obstacles, they are corporate blockers. You can observe proof of this occurrence even within the simplest of merchandise line. The headphone market has not customarily been exposed to walled back gardens because there is only so much power an organization can master over the 3.5 mm audio jack port, that has been the industry standard for quite a few years. And that helps explain the reason why Apple inc. got rid off the plug from the cell phones starting from the iPhone 7 produced in 2016 exactly three months prior to the wireless AirPods release. Apple asserted that removing the headphone plug allowed for even more internal hardware space, it place a plastic pressure in-take there, however it also coincidentally meant that you could not plug your headphones in without a dongle. Probably that made you very likely to buy wireless BlueTooth headphones instead, and probably you wanted the substitution with more features designed exclusively for your latest iPhone: the AirPods. AirPods could very well do quite a lot of useful stuff, like share tracks with a friend’s pair, or in no time hook up to a brand new gadget with out playing with wireless BlueTooth selections, yet you require an iPhone for every of it to succeed. espiar whatsapp gratis en chile Whilst AirPods may officially work as ordinary wireless Bluetooth earbuds on different hardware, they’re at their very best after they take advantage of the proprietary system Apple built with its own headphone processor chips, allowing for these extra product highlights. Meanwhile, Sony’s most current headphones can speak your text messages and other announcements very effectively with Google Helper, but only when you use an Android device. If you do get one of these devices and end up planning to switch to iOS, you will be restricting a sizeable volume of features. more (Nevertheless, at least the Sony headphones allow you to use Amazon’s Alexa assistant on both of those iOS and Android.) It is not that businesses technically lack the means to make almost everything play good, it’s exactly that their own products can be facilitated by wrapping up users in. In the event that you love the AirPods, you will not transition from iOS to Android OS. Your Nest thermostat already operates so good; why move out of a Google Home into an Apple HomePod, and sacrifice a number of that seamless abilities? If you want WhatsApping together with your dad, Facebook Portal might be the personal preference beyond an Alexa Show. Thankfully, some companies are killing the tendency toward walled gardens. The firm Sonos has struggled to make it easy for their intelligent speakers to switch between speech assistants, offering both Google and Alexa Assistant within the same unit. IKEA is getting its feet wet in the smart home sector with merchandise like smart lights, but it’s being certain that its items are suitable with any unit that might prefer to use these individuals. Tradfri, Ikea’s smart lights product, works together both Android and iOS nevertheless makes use of open standards. Also, there are physical controls also, for those who don’t want to implement a smart home assistant at all. Even now, the norm for the most powerful tech corporations is to look for industry dominance by cutting off their very own challengers. That sets the pressure on buyers to maintain openness inside your home. Consider every single of your purchases very well, and study the ecosystems these items work in. Or else, you could be losing basic functions at home to the determinations tech giants make for you. And none of us wants to throw their blender because Apple’s HomeKit would not work with it.

The Future Visions of Healthcare in Home Sector: Top Trends for Startups to Employ!
Tumblr media
It is interesting to watch how the healthcare sector has evolved over the years. In the 1950s, physicians and doctors would make calls to the patients for delivering the best possible healthcare services to them. And today, in the year 2021, this trend seems to have returned where the doctors and physicians are reaching out to the patients, for providing them the best patient experience.
Moreover, the home care providing industry is growing leaps and bounds in the United States. The top reasons behind the revenue growth of this industry are the aging population in the US, rising acceptance of home care, the prevalence of chronic health conditions, technological advancements, etc. Home care also saves a lot of costs as compared to hospital care treatment. Needless to say, the future of the healthcare sector is going to be much more patient-oriented and going to save much more lives than ever.
Here are some predictions by Deloitte, on how will the future of healthcare look like in the coming years.
Healthcare practices will start shifting from treating illnesses to prevention and patient well-being.
Patient engagement and their empowerment will give them a sense of ownership of their health.
Interoperable data and related platforms will allow vital medical data to flow freely yet securely for insightful decision-making.
These predictions depict that technology is going to advance the healthcare systems in myriad ways. Besides, startups and healthcare app development agencies will accordingly design their healthcare products. New trends will come into the picture and these startups and development services will have to accustom to those trends. So, let’s have a glimpse at some of such future-oriented trends.
The Future Visions of Healthcare Sector: Top Trends for Startups to Observe
Aging Patients and Home Care
According to a survey, 3 out of 4 adults of the age 50 or above would want to stay at their homes and with people of their community. As per another survey, almost 10,000 Baby Boomers are crossing the age mark of 65 years in the US; Baby Boomers are those people born between the years 1946 to 1964 and they have a considerable impact on the US economy. Besides, the number of people aged above 65 years will cross 18% of the total population, by the year 2030.
So, it is estimated that home care will be in high demand in the future. To support this statement, there is another report which predicts that by 2024, the U.S. home care market could cross $225 Billion, which was $100 Billion in the year 2016. So altogether, this is a great time for budding entrepreneurs and startups to leverage this opportunity to design apt on-demand health care app development solutions that can bridge this health care gap to offer superior medical services.
Doctors Connecting with Patients
This is the era of serving the consumers on-demand at their desired location. This holds true for the healthcare sector too. Doctors connecting to the patients and taking house calls is going to be the new norm and it is going to be the future of all kinds of healthcare entities. There already have been some medical applications in the market that offer features like audio/video calling and digital monitoring services. MeetYourDoc is one such telemedicine app. It allows patients and doctors to connect through video sessions for remote treatments.
Also, there are some other applications that are trying to bring at-home care to several patients. Phlex65 is one of the best HIPAA compliant apps meant for both- aged people and care providers. Older people can hire at-home care providers from nearby areas through Phlex65.
Telemedicine and its Convenience
Telemedicine facilitates patient monitoring using a smartphone or tablet or PC and helps the patients get medical help without moving to a hospital or a clinic. Telemedicine is a technology-driven approach that is serving millions of patients, especially in rural areas where there is a scarcity of medical facilities. Not only rural patients but owing to the current pandemic situation, even urban patients have started preferring telemedicine facilities. With just a click of a button, patients can avail these services and avoid long wait times in hospitals, or get rid of the traveling time and cost. So, the telemedicine industry, too, is growing at a rapid pace and every healthcare app development company in USA must consider this as an opportunity to grow their business.
Final Thoughts
Future visions of the healthcare domain clearly notify that ‘personalized treatment’ and ‘remote care’ are going to be the new normal, and to some extent, they have already been implemented by many care providers. With the advent of digital healthcare technologies, a plethora of mHealth apps and healthcare management systems have been designed to deliver the best-in-class patient experience and provide personalized services to them.
Furthermore, these healthcare systems and services drive actionable insights into the health conditions of patients, improve communication between patients and doctors, and provide the patients all the information about their health. So, it is essential for the startups to keep a keen watch on all such trends and accordingly design their healthcare products or offer healthcare app development services.
That’s it in this post. Hope it provided you with some thoughtful trends and ideas.

A Few Straight Forward Procedures to Connect your Devices at your Residence
Science fiction has long established the expectancy that we might inevitably have the ability to make a call from any device, to any individual on this planet, with just the flick of a hand. But not any experienced publisher forecasted what precisely that would truly suggest, circa 2019: Setting up 6 separate messaging programs on your mobile phone and 5-6 video-calling tools, non-e which interact. For certain we can easily video call, Future-style, however, we need to decide whether we are calling on Skype, Messenger, Snap, WhatsApp, or a brand new program. find out here now The magic of technology brought all of us the opportunity to invite a car on the internet and drive with a unfamiliar person to any destination, but I actually still can’t figure out in the event that I’ll ever be able to get my personal mum to call myself on Google Duet rather than FaceTime, as I’ve transferred to Android and FaceTime is not readily available in my smartphone. Our smartphones have become overrun with walled gardens, such that deciding on a phone now means being locked in to an entire environment of gadgets and services around that, and getting blocked via anything that is not sanctioned. Corporations like Apple have also did start to find ways to extend their very own reach to other systems in an effort to a person in their environments. All of us were required to come to terms with some versions from this clash for many years now, naturally. Way back in 2012, Instagram obstructed Twitter out of featuring embeds of the photos at the service, mainly to gain extra clicks to its own software. Twitter, in return, blocked Instagram out of using its own API to look for your contacts in the service. But since the word wide web starts to slide into our homes in innovative ways, through gadgets like HomePod, Google Home, Alexa, and a numerous of different smart devices, the market has shifted. Now seems as if we now have no answer but to lock ourselves into a principal ecosystem, placing our most confidential spaces to become defined by that choice. Take intelligent speakers, inside the top path for technical companies’ challenge over your own home. Products like Alexa or perhaps Google Home will be quite often the original intelligent devices customers will invest in, and since any smart products you buy next must be appropriate for your audio, which one you select is remarkably essential. A wonderful case in point of the repercussions of that decision may be seen in two of the world’s best messaging apps: both from Facebook Whatsapp and Messenger. Both these applications are being used by billions of customers, yet they are plainly missing from popular smart speakers like Amazon Echo and Google Home, which can be selling a lot. Why? To be honest, Facebook must have a piece of the smart home assistant action to implement its own Portal gadget. If you would like to generate a video call up with WhatsApp or Messenger through a intelligent speaker, it is advisable to have a Portal gadget. It is easy to operate your Google-owned Nest temperature control system via your Google home assistant by just expressing "set the temperature to 76 degrees" aloud. But, best of luck making it work together with an Apple HomePod. Speaking of the Apple HomePod: You’d better believe Apple’s intelligent speaker helps to make it very unlikely to use Spotify, Apple Music’s leading contender.
Tumblr media
Alternative choices , for example, the Alexa Show and Nest Hub Max should not have any problem using WhatsApp or Messenger, just as Apple almost certainly wouldn’t have a very hard time more effortlessly bringing in Spotify. These are not technical limitations, they are bottom line hurdles. You can see evidence of this phenomenon even among the most elementary of product lines. The headphone industry has not customarily been subjected to walled back gardens because there is only so much power a corporation can master over the 3.5 mm audio jack, which has been the niche standard for several years. And this helps discuss why Apple removed the jack from the cellphones starting from the iPhone 7 unveiled in 2016 exactly 3 months before the wireless AirPods launch. Apple argued that getting rid of the head-phone plug allowed for extra internal parts space, it set a plastic material pressure port there, but it also coincidentally ensured that you could not connect your headsets in without needing a dongle. Maybe that made you more likely to purchase wireless BlueTooth headphones instead, and probably you wanted the alternate option with extra features designed exclusively for your brand-new iPhone: the AirPods. AirPods can certainly perform quite a lot of amazing stuff, like share music with a close friend’s set, or in no time link up to a new gadget without playing with wireless BlueTooth menus, nevertheless you require an iPhone for almost any of this to succeed. Even though AirPods can easily officially work as typical wireless Bluetooth earbuds on numerous components, they are at their best every time they take advantage of the exclusive system Apple built with a unique headphone processor chips, enabling these additional product features. In the mean time, Sony’s most recent headphones can read out your emails and other notifications proactively with Google Assistant, but as long as you use a Google device. If you buy one of these devices and end up looking to switch to iOS, you will be restricting a significant volume of overall performance. (However, at least the Sony headphones let you use Amazon’s Alexa helper on both Android and iOS.) It’s not that vendors technologically lack the ability to make everything play nice, it’s that their unique devices could be made stickier by wrapping up end users in. If you cherish the AirPods, maybe you might not switch from iOS to Android OS. descargar gratis espiar whatsapp uptodown Your Nest thermostat previously works perfectly; why swap from a Google Home to an Apple HomePod, and sacrifice most of that seamless effectiveness? If you value WhatsApping together with your older brother, Facebook Portal is the choice over an Alexa Show. Fortunately, some companies are killing the pattern toward walled gardens. Sonos, for example, has struggled to enable their smart speakers to swap between speech assistants, supplying both Alexa and Google Assistant within the same unit. IKEA is trying to get their toes wet in the smart family home market with products like smart lights, but it’s ensuring that their products are compatible with any device that might want to use them. content Tradfri, Ikea’s smart lights brand, works together with both iOS and Android however makes use of open specifications. Also, there are physical adjustments too, for everyone who do not want to employ a smart gadget in any way. However, the norm for the most successful tech vendors is usually to search for industry dominance by cutting off their rivals. This sets the responsibility on consumers to maintain openness in the house. Reflect on each of your purchases very well, and check out the environments they work in. Or else, you may be losing crucial features at home to the choices tech giants make for you. And no one likes to dump their mixer mainly because Apple’s HomeKit would not support it.

College Admissions Cheaters Often Win
The biggest myth that admissions offices present is that the review process is a science. Holistic review isn’t a precise thermometer that measures temperature accurately. In reality, it’s neither an art nor a science but a series of hunches and gut feelings.
Even supposedly objective criteria such as grades and AP scores can be gamed by savvy students, further calling into question whether reviewers can decipher what is authentic or not.
By cheating, I don’t have in mind falsifying resume credentials on an application or lying on an essay.
I see posts from time to time about admissions counselors who claim they can tell fraud or not, but can they really when they read applications in less than ten minutes and hundreds if not thousands of applications each cycle? They’re reading way too quickly to assess the claims you make at anything other than face value. Reviewers usually take the applicant’s word for it.
Some portals, such as the University of California, have shifted to students self-reporting their grades and SAT scores. Because that information is easily verified with an official transcript required for enrollment, very few students cheat on that portion of the application. I imagine for every thousand students who misrepresent themselves on an application, perhaps one is actually caught and “blacklisted” with their name circulated among elite institutions. Reviewers can’t detect fraud with any reliability, although they love to claim omnipotence on the subject to scare would-be deceivers.
By cheating, I have in mind the time-tested tradition of looking over your classmate’s shoulder. Donald McCabe with the Center for Academic Integrity conducted a longitudinal survey of 70,000 high school students from 2002 to 2015. Two-thirds of students admitted to cheating on a test or plagiarizing a paper, with 95 percent of respondents admitting to some form of cheating.
Because the penalties for academic dishonesty are so high, no student will ever publicly admit to fraud. On the contrary, people accused of cheating will deploy any means to denounce the charge and preserve their reputations, often committing themselves to further lying on top of the initial cheating. There are no incentives to come clean unless it’s to snitch on other cheaters and receive leniency.
Rutger Bregman in Humankind undermines the conventional narrative that humans are innately selfish and prone to evil. He argues that people are generally decent and aren’t intrinsically motivated to lie and cheat. We want to get along and feel included in our family and communities. Poor incentives within society nudge people toward bad behavior.
Our modern society inverts pro-social virtues such as honesty and integrity in favor of winning, even if that means fraud, deceit, or manipulation.
“Blaming the system” doesn’t excuse or absolve the cheater who deserves some form of punishment. “Everyone else is doing it” also isn’t an acceptable defense. We’re left with a situation where the unfortunate few who are caught pay steep penalties. As long as the admissions arms race persists, cheating will be a natural response, a problem most educators and admissions staff prefer to ignore. Consequently, cheating is a silent yet systemic social problem.
Many of my clients go on extensive rants about pervasive cheating in their classes (although, predictably, none ever admit to cheating themselves). Some even write college essays criticizing their underhanded classmates.
A group of students once pulled me aside at a high school visit when I worked for UT-Austin, begging me to do something about their unscrupulous valedictorian. Honest students resent their classmates who show up to class unprepared and swipe scantrons from a teacher’s desk or circulate answers among a group of cheaters. Traditional definitions of plagiarism are inadequate for the smartphone generation.
There is no part of the college application that a determined family can’t manipulate. One recommendation by Varsity Blues ringleader Rick Singer involved referring students to online schools where students could independently study AP classes. Earning high grades at less-rigorous high schools boosted the applicant’s overall GPA and class rank.  Supplementing coursework isn’t explicitly illegal. Few if any artificially inflated GPAs will get detected by admissions counselors. Many students opt to take summer school classes at their primary campus to earn more grade points and free up space for more GPA-boosting AP classes.
In the past few years, I noticed a substantial uptick in students earning 4s and 5s on more than 15 AP exams, many of who self-studied. I asked a few how they managed to balance what seemed like an impossible course load for even the most ambitious students. Never implicating themselves, they admitted that on obscure corners of the internet, you could illicitly access AP question test banks provided by College Board intended for use explicitly by teachers to help their students prepare. Memorize the test bank and skim official preparation resources, and there is a decent chance you will pass, especially during the COVID period’s online exams reduced to less than an hour. Cheating is an efficient strategy for overworked and sleep-deprived students.
A Redditor laments in a mocking post, since deleted, about a cheating classmate who gained early admission to Harvard. “[Their cheating] coupled with all those posts about people faking passion and being admitted to schools that are like wE cAn TeLl WhEn yOu ArEn’t PassiOnate, should remind you that AOs AREN’T ALL-KNOWING JUDGES OF YOUR WORTH.”
Because most students know at least one cheater who will inevitably gain admission, cheaters’ successes undermine the entire higher education system’s integrity. The college admissions madness incentivizes everyone to cut corners, with few unwilling to face social exclusion by being labeled a snitch.
Another user responded to the disgruntled post that “[the saying] ‘cheaters never prosper’ is absolute bullshit.” They’re right.
Admissions counselors aren’t Saint Peter with an all-seeing God on their side that can pierce the hearts of any soul. They’re more like a Judge Judy that squawks a lot but doesn’t have any unique insights into human character. Cheaters often win, including electing to the presidency a man who cheats on his wives and lies about everything from recorded phone calls with world leaders down to his golf handicap.
Cheating Lessons
Professor James Lang argues in Cheating Lessons that academically dishonest climates are pervasive at all levels of education.  He estimates at least two-thirds of all students will cheat at least once. A few become the habitual deceivers that appear in college essays or frustrated Reddit posts. Extrinsic rewards such as gaining admission to elite universities or earning a prestigious internship normalize dishonest behavior because the means justify the ends. Students are responding to incentives in their environment. Honesty requires more courage than surrendering to the pressures to take shortcuts.
Professor Mollie Galloway expands in a review of Lang’s book that cheating isn’t necessarily more pervasive than in previous generations. Still, dishonest behavior is less stigmatized and perceived as increasingly normal. “The [educational] culture encourages students, particularly those from upper-middle-class and affluent communities, to see cheating not as a compromising of their values but rather as a warranted and morally sound mechanism by which to attain the status they believe they are afforded.”
A few high schools cultivate a culture of cheating.
Administrations feel pressure to maximize their AP exams passed or SAT scores earned to recruit future cohorts of students. Schools receive accolades when their graduates earn prestigious scholarships or university spaces. There are subtle pressures for teachers to turn a blind eye or administrators to cover up academically dishonest behavior. Teachers who are committed to honesty fight a never-ending battle like trying to stop alcohol consumption during Prohibition. Alcoholics will find a way to drink, and students will find a way to cheat.
Institutions punishing cheaters and plagiarizers is so rare that, when it happens, the incident often makes national news.
Cheating at New York City’s most prestigious magnet school, Stuyvesant, didn’t end after they fired their principal, Stanley Teitel, for covering up a 66-student cheating ring in 2013. The New York Post reports five years later, “Cheating is most common among students in their third year, the most academically challenging because the grades count heavily on college applications, the December survey found. A whopping 97 percent of juniors said they had engaged in academic dishonesty, while 56 percent of freshman said they had already cheated after just four months in the school.” Stuyvesant is the second-largest feeder high school in the country for MIT, Princeton, and Harvard.
The Tragic Case of T.M. Landry
The most heartbreaking example of a culture of systematic cheating occurred at Louisiana’s T.M. Landry. Named for the husband-and-wife-founders and principals Tracey and Mike Landry, it is an unaccredited college preparatory school housed in an abandoned factory. When Landry seniors started gaining admission to Cornell, Stanford, Princeton, and Harvard, among many other elite universities, between 2013 and 2018, it seemed like a tremendous success story.
Landry enrolls mostly black students from rural Louisiana, a state with one of the nation’s lowest-performing education systems. Black families placed their trust in the Landrys, who promoted family and unity and an alternative education outside of white society’s norms. The Landrys announced their 100 percent four-year college acceptance rate, made famous by viral YouTube “decision reveal” videos viewed millions of times. Wealthy families and organizations donated hundreds of thousands of dollars, and white and Asian students began enrolling.
Educators and school administrators nationwide wondered how Landry students could overcome such long odds. A New York Times investigation revealed a culture of violence, abuse, and outright fraud. “Visitors and cameras paraded through what had become a Potemkin village.”
Because the school wasn’t accredited, they do not receive any government funding and consequently fall outside regulations and oversight. Class attendance was optional. It was, as one student described it, a “house built on water.”
Mike Landry humiliated and demanded absolute obedience from his students, resulting in a 2013 conviction for battery. He required students to begin class by saying “I love you” in different languages, including an invented language, Mike-a-nese, to him directly. “Love” in Mike-a-nese is the word “kneel.”
Students and families began speaking out following abuse allegations and substandard classroom instruction. Mr. Landry threatened to withhold transcripts if anyone left the school or blew the whistle. Students who chose to leave had their grades altered to ruin their future college prospects. He threatened students that elite university admissions officers had cameras in the school, so they better behave themselves.
T.M. Landry’s Ivy League success comes down to outright fraud. Mike Landry doctored transcripts to show outstanding grades for loyal students, even for advanced courses that they never took or weren’t offered at the school. The Landrys pressured students to report their family incomes as low as possible on the applications. Teachers recycled recommendation letters to laud students for extracurricular activities that didn’t exist. In some instances, teachers recycled recommendations from previous years for future students without changing the names.
The Landrys counseled students to “go deep” on their essays, which pressured students to exaggerate or fabricate hardships that play into racial stereotypes and poverty tropes. They were the kinds of hardship stories that elite universities eat up. The only genuine instruction that students received revolved around the ACT. It was the only admissions factor that T.M. Landry staff couldn’t easily manipulate. One graduate, Bryson Sassau, commented, “If it wasn’t on the ACT, I didn’t know it.”
T.M. Landry’s graduates had mixed results at their respective elite colleges. Some earned their degrees despite entering college with writing and math skills that were many grade levels below their college classmates. Others, especially those who spent the most time at T.M. Landry, floundered and dropped out.
Because their high school degrees weren’t accredited, some alumni had to earn their GED to enroll at local colleges and begin their studies again. Landry college prep destroyed dozens of families whose elementary-age children didn’t learn phonics. High school juniors tested in reading at a fourth-grade level.
Mike Landry defended himself by appealing to a culture that values credentials over character. “So what, we’re not accredited… Three years in a row, Harvard took us. Stanford has taken us.”
Taking a page out of the corporate public relations playbook, the Landrys employed the law firm Couhig Partners to respond to the Times’s allegations. Couhig based their 23-page report on five interviews that excluded the dozens of testimonies investigated by the Times. Predictably, their internal investigation minimizes the claims and amounts to “move along now, nothing to see here,” while noting that there might be areas for minor improvement.
In other words, the means justify the ends.
The tragedy of T.M. Landry embodies the admissions madness taken to its logical conclusion. The Landrys are a symptom of the admissions madness, not a cause.
Elite universities seek diverse, academically stellar students. High schools everywhere will respond to these incentives, and families want to send their children to schools with a noted track record of success. In the worst-case scenarios, school cultures cater their entire curriculum and deploy any measures to meet those expectations at the expense of genuine learning or even a safe learning environment.
Universities are to blame
T.M. Landry and Varsity Blues are two sides of the same coin. The former exploited an admissions system that values diversity, whereas the latter defrauded universities by leveraging extreme wealth and privilege. As with the Varsity Blues scandal, university administrators responded in horror, wondering how such a thing could occur. Yet, they’re the architects of a system that creates such perverse incentives that distort basic human decency. Look in the mirror!
It’s also ironic that, on the one hand, admissions officers claim to know the context and resources of a given high school, while on the other, the Landrys hoodwinked dozens of elite colleges over a series of application cycles. If universities can’t reliably catch a fraudulent high school, why would we believe they can consistently identify individual cheaters?
In Talking with Strangers, Malcolm Gladwell suggests that we’re generally trusting and tend to default to the truth. In UT admissions, senior staff trained us to presume what a student writes or reports on their resume is true. Admissions processes aren’t set up to identify fraud or look for subtle discrepancies in transcripts relative to a school’s profile.
I don’t believe the posturing of a former Stanford admissions counselor who posted a Reddit thread under the username “empowerly,” insinuating that applicants will get caught if they cheat.  Given infinite time and resources, it’s theoretically possible to catch most cheaters most of the time. However, there simply isn’t enough time, sufficient information, or willpower to detect fraud in practice. Admissions gatekeepers are not the gods that they convey themselves to be publicly. Pretending to be all-powerful causes more harm than good and injects more anxiety into the system.
The immediate result of posts like that of the former Stanford counselor was to create a sense of paranoia among student Redditors. Dozens of comments wondered, “Will my ECs seem exaggerated? What if they contact my counselor?” The most honest response reads, “I presume you know that some students will take advantage of this information and lie better.”
Sentiments like /u/empowerly’s reinforce college admissions counselors’ omniscience that provides the architecture for T.M. Landry to deceive their students that universities watched them. We are reluctant to acknowledge cheating unless there is overwhelming evidence suggesting fraud occurred.
Educators are also averse to leveling claims of fraud against a student unless they’re highly certain. Their reputations and careers are at stake if they wrongly accuse a student. It isn’t surprising that the Landrys’ deceit succeeded for many admissions cycles. To their credit, at least some of their unwitting alumni earned life-transforming elite college degrees that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
Cheaters, whether they are aware of their dishonesty or not, often win.

Cyberspace-
Tumblr media
What does Cyberspace mean?
Cyberspace refers to the virtual computer world, and more specifically, an electronic medium that is used to facilitate online communication. Cyberspace typically involves a large computer network made up of many worldwide computer subnetworks that employ TCP/IP protocol to aid in communication and data exchange activities.
Cyberspace's core feature is an interactive and virtual environment for a broad range of participants.
In the common IT lexicon, any system that has a significant user base or even a well-designed interface can be thought to be “cyberspace.”
Cyberspace allows users to share information, interact, swap ideas, play games, engage in discussions or social forums, conduct business and create intuitive media, among many other activities.
The term cyberspace was introduced by William Gibson in his 1984 book, Neuromancer. Gibson criticized the term in later years, calling it “evocative and essentially meaningless.” Nevertheless, the term is still widely used to describe any facility or feature that is linked to the Internet. People use the term to describe all sorts of virtual interfaces that create digital realities.
In many key ways, cyberspace is what human societies make of it.
One way to talk about cyberspace is related to the use of the global Internet for diverse purposes, from commerce to entertainment.Wherever the Internet is used, you could say, that creates a cyberspace. The prolific use of both desktop computers and smartphones to access the Internet means that, in a practical (yet somewhat theoretical) sense, the cyberspace is growing.
Another prime example of cyberspace is the online gaming platforms advertised as massive online player ecosystems. These large communities, playing all together, create their own cyberspace worlds that exist only in the digital realm, and not in the physical world, sometimes nicknamed the “meatspace.”
To really consider what cyberspace means and what it is, think about what happens when thousands of people, who may have gathered together in physical rooms in the past to play a game, do it instead by each looking into a device from remote locations. As gaming operators dress up the interface to make it attractive and appealing, they are, in a sense, bringing interior design to the cyberspace.
In fact, gaming as an example, as well as streaming video, shows what our societies have largely chosen to do with the cyberspace as a whole. According to many IT specialists and experts, cyberspace has gained popularity as a medium for social interaction, rather than its technical execution and implementation. This sheds light on how societies have chosen to create cyberspace.
Theoretically, the same human societies could create other kinds of cyberspace—technical realms in which digital objects are created, dimensioned and evaluated in technical ways. For example, cyberspaces where language translation happens automatically in the blink of an eye or cyberspaces involving full-scale visual inputs that can be rendered on a 10-foot wall.
In the end, it seems that the cyberspaces that we have created are pretty conformist and one-dimensional, relative to what could exist. In that sense, cyberspace is always evolving, and promises to be more diverse in the years to come.
Cyber culture and cyber-topics-
Tumblr media
Cyberculture is the culture that has taken from the use of computer networks for communication, entertainment and business. It is also the study of various social phenomena associated with the Internet and other new forms of network communication, such as online communities, online multi-player gaming, social gaming, social media and texting.
The earliest usage of the term "cyberculture" was listed in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1963, "In the era of cyberculture, all the plows pull themselves and the fried chickens fly right onto our plates." However, cyberculture is the culture within and among users of computer networks. It may be purely an online culture or span both virtual and physical worlds. This is to say, that cyberculture is a culture endemic to online communities; it is not just the culture that results from computer use, but culture that is directly mediated by the computer.
Qualities of cyberculture-
Post image for Impacts of cyberculture on reading and writing The ethnography of cyberspace is an important element of cyberculture that does not reflect a single unified culture. "It is not a monolithic or placeless 'cyberspace'; but rather, it is numerous new technologies and capabilities, used by diverse people, in diverse real-world locations." It is malleable, perishable, and can be shaped by the vagaries of external forces on its users. For example, the laws of physical world governments, social norms, the architecture of cyberspace, and market forces shape the way cybercultures form and evolve. As with physical world cultures, cybercultures lend themselves to identification and study.
That said, there are several qualities that cybercultures share that make them warrant the prefix “cyber-“. Some of those qualities are that cyberculture:
- Is culture “mediated by computer screens.”
- Relies heavily on the notion of information and knowledge exchange.
- Depends on the ability to manipulate tools to a degree not present in other forms of culture (even artisan culture, e.g., a glass-blowing culture).
- Allows vastly expanded weak ties and has been criticized for overly emphasizing the same
- Multiplies the number of eyeballs on a given problem, beyond that which would be possible using traditional means, given physical, geographic, and temporal constraints.
- Is a “cognitive and social culture, not a geographic one.”
- Is “the product of like-minded people finding a common ‘place’ to interact."
- Is inherently more "fragile" than traditional forms of community and culture.
Types of Cyberculture -
Types of Cyberculture include various human interactions mediated by computer networks. They can be activities, pursuits, games, places and metaphors, and include a diverse base of applications. Through these types of Cyberculture, Internet language is used widely. For example: blogs, social networks, games etc.
Cyberspace and Dystopia-
Tumblr media
An imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one.
Augmented reality -
Tumblr media
A technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a users view of the real world, thus providing a composite view.
The word augmented suggests that this kind of technology can improve our technology of our experience with the world as augment means to add to something.
Immersive (cyber) spaces-
Virtual reality-
Tumblr media
The computer-generated simulation of three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves filleted with sensors.
Example Avatar- James Cameron
Tumblr media
The use of the word Avatar makes us know that it has some sort of relationship with reality and technology.
An avatar is an icon or a figure that represents a certain person in a video game or any other internet form.
This film deals with the possibilities of pushing human relationships with technology to its limits.

4 Psychology-Driven Ways to Structure Your Landing Page
Tumblr media
Do you know what’s most valuable on your website?
Your landing pages
It’s where you’ll convert passive visitors into active subscribers, buyers, or fans. It’s where your business grows.
A good landing page is the make-or-break moment for your site. Which is why to write a truly great landing page, you must understand the laws of persuasion.
The rules that determine how we think and act are valuable for every type of marketing, of course. But it’s especially critical when every click counts.
Research has shown that more landing pages lead to more conversions.
But it only counts if you’re doing it correctly. If you’re building a landing page that needs to appeal to the most people, you’ll want to include these ideas.
They’ll help you structure your page in a way that grabs attention and pushes people to act.
Let’s get started!
1. Organize Landing Page Elements Correctly
At its core, a landing page is a series of blocks. How you organize these blocks can make or break the success of what you’ve built.
Put the call to action too late? You won’t get the conversions you’re hoping for.
Include testimonials too early? People won’t understand the offer and will leave.
That's why ordering elements is the first psychology-driven way to structure your landing page.
Primacy Effect—We Remember What Comes First
Quick—name a woman who flew across the Atlantic Ocean.
Did Amelia Earheart come to mind?
She’s not the only woman to have performed the feat. But she sticks with us because she was the first to do it.
This is the Primacy Effect. It's the well-known psychological concept that we remember what comes first.
Bonjoro’s home page is a great example. They show their product’s personal touch with a video at the top.
When you’re setting up the pieces of your landing page, start with what’s most important:
A key headline.
An eye-catching graphic.
A powerful, engaging video.
Whatever it is, choose carefully. It’ll be one of the most memorable parts of your landing page.
Recency Effect—We Remember What Comes Last
It might sound like the opposite of the Primacy Effect. But in truth, it’s a concept that explains the shortcuts the human mind takes.
Maybe this has happened to you—a friend asks for a movie recommendation. But what comes to mind? The last movie you watched … not the best movie you’ve ever seen.
Why would we do that?
It’s the Recency Effect at work. Along with what comes first, what comes last takes special importance.
To use it on your landing page, make sure you end on a strong note.
(Pro tip: This is almost always a call to action.)
The Recency Effect doesn't just apply to the last part of the landing page, but to the last part your visitor reads.
If a lot of visitors leave a certain place, try to fix it. But if you can’t, at least make it worth remembering.
Von Restorff Effect—We Remember What Stands Out
Read this list:
Blue. Orange. Green. Red. Elephant. Yellow.
Now, name one word from that list.
Did "elephant" come to mind? Researchers have performed similar experiments again and again.
The findings are clear—most of us remember what stands out.
Just like those Sesame Street segments, the Von Restorff Effect says: “one of these things is not like the others.”
In the context of a landing page, there are thousands of ways to apply the Von Restorff Effect.
But one of the simplest is to add variety to long sections. So if you have a list of features, add a captivating image to draw attention to the most important.
(Research indicates this effect diminishes as we age, so this is less important on landing pages for older visitors.)
The Von Restorff Effect is all about breaking up the monotony.
Here’s another example of this concept in action—once you get to the conclusion of this article, you’ll probably remember this concept best.
It’s the only one on the list with a fun German name.
Tumblr media
2. Limit Choices (But Not Too Much)
Humans are funny creatures.
We crave options. Yet at the same time, we’re startlingly bad at making good choices with the freedom we’ve been given.
The Internet has brought millennia of knowledge to our fingertips … yet there’s so much of it, we’d rather just watch Netflix.
Using landing pages, how can we leverage human tendencies with choices?
Freedom of Choice—We Prefer Multiple Options
The first concept is the one we all know: more options are better than fewer options.
Which bakery is better—one with two types of pastries or one with twenty?
Options give us a sense of comfort. When we choose, we're in control.
So when you’re designing your landing page, keep that comfort in mind.
We’ll get into more nuts-and-bolts depth about pricing strategies in just a minute. But for now, remember that providing some options is better than none at all.
For example, there are only two options to subscribe to The New Yorker: print and digital.
Yet The New Yorker subscription page expands this to include a three-month option.
Many times, we only have one offer. But don’t miss the chance for more choices.
Let the prospect use a payment plan, or pay all at once.
Offer a basic plan or an upgrade.
The choices are endless. Speaking of which, they shouldn’t be.
The Paradox of Choice—Too Many Options Paralyzes Us
Months ago, I started a simple search for a better charging cable for my phone. Amazon proudly informed me there were more than 40,000 items.
They all looked more or less the same, with almost indistinguishable differences.
It was confusing. I didn't know where to go, and the options froze my decision-making ability.
I still haven't bought a new charger. After all, my current cable connects to my phone ... most of the time.
What's going on?
You see, we love options, but too many choices are bad for us.
This is especially critical for e-commerce landing pages. Chewy does a great job of showing lots of categories without being overwhelming.
But be careful—it’s easy to fall into the trap of showing every option.
Instead, as you structure your landing page, stick with a smaller number. Research shows humans best remember seven things, give or take two.
To err on the side of caution, stick with five. Peloton does a great job simplifying its dozens of products into a short list of five.
But what if you must display more than seven? That’s the place Amazon finds itself in.
When you have 40,000 products, it’d be a disservice to only show five. So Amazon has taken advantage of the next concept.
Social Proof—Highlight Choices Based on Popularity
The classic example of social proof is something like, “9 out of 10 dentists recommend Sensodyne.”
But there are thousands of more subtle ways social proof surrounds us. As Amazon’s catalog has grown, they’ve added social proof to help sort through the noise.
For example, Amazon now flags best selling products.
Products with more (and more positive) customer reviews are likely to drive more click-throughs. Which of these two knives are you more likely to buy?
And Amazon even helps us choose with their “Amazon’s Choice” label.
They’ve also partnered with review sites for third-party recommendations.
(This is a variation of social proof known as Appeal to Authority. After all, a third party sounds more objective than Internet strangers.)
The most common usage of social proof like this is on pricing landing pages. You’ve seen it before—the website highlights one pricing plan as being more popular.
Use the same ideas on your own page.
And speaking of pricing, let’s look there next.
3. Structure Your Pricing Correctly
Pricing seems so simple.
Yet it’s one of the most complex areas of marketing.
You see, there isn’t an exact formula for pricing. Sure, there are all kinds of recommendations online.
Add a percentage to your cost.
Look at what your competitors are doing.
And so forth.
But the real secret to pricing—the gold your competitors are missing out on—lies in psychology.
Here are the three principles you need to know.
Anchoring Effect—State Higher Prices First
Have you noticed how we all spend more on cell phones now?
Before the Smartphone Age, most of us spent a few hundred dollars on a new cell phone.
But today, it’s common for us to spend $1,000 or more on a device.
Why?
Because of the Anchoring Effect. When we see $1,000 cell phones, we begin to think that’s the norm.
Even if we’re thrifty, spending $500 now seems like a deal—even if it’s double what we would have paid just a few years ago.
When you’re designing your landing page, you want to take anchoring into effect.
The simplest way is to show high prices first. So if you have more than one plan, list the most expensive first, then in descending order of price.
Casper does a great job of this by positioning their premium Wave mattress first.
(It’s also a beautiful example of providing choices, with guidance.)
Only have one plan?
Then use a technique copywriters have employed for decades—list comparisons.
You’ve seen it before:
“In-person training for this would cost $10,000. Hiring a coach would be $500 an hour. But with my course, you can get the same information for just $99 …”
They use it because it works.
And you can use it, too.
Loss Aversion Principle—Focus on What We’re Losing
It’s your birthday, and a friend gives you a $100 bill.
Later that day, you withdraw another $100 from an ATM. But when you get home, you realize you left the money in the machine.
Do those two events even each other out?
Research says no. The ATM loss will be more painful than the birthday gift was enjoyable. About twice as painful psychologically, in fact.
We all love to win.
But more than winning, we want to avoid losing. This is known as the Loss Aversion Principle.
As you create your landing page, keep this principle in mind.
We’re all tempted to list the great features and benefits we have to offer. But psychology shows that losing is more powerful.
To do this, start off by explaining what problems the prospect is facing right now.
Show that they’re already losing something, whether that’s money, time, status, or health.
Show that your offer can change that, and they can stop losing out.
Then—and only then—should you show the benefits.
Contrast Effect—Small Differences Can Stand Out
Remember the Von Restorff Effect?
It stated that in a list of similar items, we notice things that stand out.
(Like elephants among color samples.)
The Contrast Effect is its visual counterpart.
There’s a reason most call-to-action buttons aren’t the same color as the page background. There’s a reason “for sale” signs on car lots are bright pink and yellow.
Colors that stand apart catch our eye.
The Ahrefs home page is a great example of the Contrast Effect. The bright orange call to action is immediately obvious.
Every landing page needs to draw attention to one or more items.
The best way to do this? With contrast.
Give a section a brightly-colored background.
Add a border that pops.
And start grabbing attention.
4. Improve Actions with Cognitive Fluency
Humans are, in our hearts, very lazy creatures.
It’s not our fault!
Our bodies have been finely-tuned over millions of years to conserve energy.
We’re built to make split-second judgments to assess situations.
It’s great on the prehistoric prairie. But in the 21st century, it means we have a few biases.
And you need to take them into account when selling.
Cognitive Fluency—Easier Content is More Trustworthy
Imagine you’re studying for a test in college, and two friends offer to share their study notes.
One friend hands you a bulging pile of dog-eared scribbles.
The other friend gives you a typed report broken down by subject. Each section has summaries and bullet points with key facts to remember.
Which would you use to study?
The answer seems obvious, but the better-organized student might be flunking the class. We judge credibility based on what's easiest to read.
As you design your landing page, make the content seamless. One section leads to another, all the way to the call to action.
This is the idea of Cognitive Fluency. Essentially, we choose what’s easiest for the brain to process.
Take it to heart in your landing pages, and keep the structure simple and easy to follow.
Deictic Gaze—We Obey Indicators to Where to Look
This is one of the silliest shortcuts in the human brain, but it works.
Before I explain how, look at the following image:
Did you look to the right?
Congratulations, you’ve seen the Deictic Gaze in action. It’s one of the most obvious examples of Cognitive Fluency.
Our brain will follow arrows, other people’s line of sight, and other cues when deciding where to look.
The brain’s laziness is a great way to improve your landing page. You’ve seen it a thousand times, and it's worth adding yourself.
Place small arrows, pointers, and even photographs of people facing the right direction.
Halo Effect—We Assign Good Design with Positive Traits
Take a quick glance at the website below. Is this someone you’d want to do business with?
If you’re like most people, you’d think twice about this company. Its 1990s-era website doesn’t look like a credible business venture.
But you’d be mistaken. It's the home page of billionaire Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway.
You see, first impressions influence our perception. We assume a site with bad design is a bad site. Likewise, we assign positive traits to sites that appeal to us.
This “halo” of positive traits leads to the name of the concept, the Halo Effect.
Every landing page you create should look as great as possible.
Nothing sells like a halo.
Oh, and if you’re wondering how Warren Buffett still succeeds with a site like that?
Simple: When you’re a world-famous billionaire, your personal halo extends to your website, not the other way around.
