the hogwarts anecdotes of 12 year old sirius black in my long fic (i really need to decide on a title because “long fic” just sounds weird now):
1:
My friends are great! James learned a Colour-changing charm and turned Lucius Malfoy’s hair red. It was hilarious! I wish you could have seen it.
2:
“James and I heard about a secret room behind one of the magical portraits of some guy named Vindictus. It took a lot of convincing, but old Vindi got so annoyed by us that he let us through just so we’d shut up.”
“What was in the room?” Regulus questioned, clinging to every word.
“Just a ton of awards and certificates from students, like things you get for winning at something. School competitions, Quidditch, whatevers. It was boring, but James found a trophy that his mum won, so he was pretty happy about that.”
3:
“We tried to pull a prank on Marlene once. I swear it was going to be so good, Reggie! But as we were going up the stairs to the girls dorms, it turned into a massive slide and we fell all the way back down to the common room. Peter crashed right into a table and broke a lamp. A Prefect heard it, so we got a few house points taken.”
4:
“Remus’s mum has a car like that,” Sirius suddenly spoke, breaking the spell of silence between them.
Regulus followed Sirius’s gaze, landing on a vehicle— a car, as his brother put it— carefully navigating the icy road. It was teal and boxy. They all looked dangerous to Regulus.
“Does he move it around himself?”
“He’s not supposed to, he’s too young, but his mum let him drive it once on a backroad. He said it felt like flying.”
“Then what does he think real flying felt like?” Regulus asked, and he meant it to be a serious question, but his brother laughed.
“Terrifying. He hated it. He’d never been on a broom before.”
“Never? Not even once?”
“Not even once,” Sirius reconfirmed.
“Didn’t his parents teach him?”
“He said his dad was too busy for it— he works at the ministry— and his mum doesn’t know how because she’s a muggle, so… yeah, he never learned.”
