i just finished yakuza 5 and after playing y0-y5 here is my ranked thoughts on how fun each of the playable protags are in each game to play as

kiryu - obviously the best since he's the main man, he is also head and shoulders above everyone else because kiwami 2 is the most modern game I've played so it was very polished and I think the most I've enjoyed playing any of the games in terms of only gameplay, also love his taxi section in yakuza 5

haruka - idc if its controversial I LOVED haruka's section in 5 and it was so fun to play as a character who doesn't fight (so i dont get jumped all the time walking down the street) i loved all the idol stuff from the dance battles to the rhythm games and all the company missions

akiyama - love his kicking and he can also do dance battles 10/10

majima - i like his breakdancing moveset, 0 was the first game I played quite a while ago so i dont remember it that well but I definitely preferred playing as him over kiryu in 0

saejima - a BEAST and his playstyle expresses that very well, I'm p sure he could kill me in one punch, didn't care for his hunting stuff

tanimura - fine, i did kinda like the grappling counter attack stuff, didn't really spend much time playing as him so I never got to fully develop his fighting style but I could see it being very fun

shinada - spent 0 extra time on his section except for levelling up the awful baseball part! again like tanimura i might have enjoyed him more if i spent more time with him
