just found this really cool map on Instagram and thought you might like it!!!
#spanish history#the 1812 constitution (also known as 'la pepa' or the cadiz constitution)#was the first constitution in spain#it was redacted during the independence war against the french in cadiz#abd it was actually very progressive for the time look it up for the specifics but i remember studying it in class and being like 😳😳😳#but it was never really enacted cause when we won the war and the king returned he took a look at the constitution and said#'that's cool but i'm gonna pass' and just. never inforced it#and that's why fernando vii is regarded as one of the worst kings in spanish history#anyways i always love seeing maps of how was divided the country#like for example the napoleonic plan of creating departments with names based on rivers??? insanely cool but also actually insane#like it's all wrong#and in this one... ngl i kinda dig the separation between leon and castilla#also it's insane to me to think that all of my mother's side of the family is like super proud of being manchego but until like 1975/1976#albacete was part of murcia#like when my grandparents were teens they were in albacete murcia#WHEN MY MUM WAS BORN SHE VISITED HER FAMILY IN ALBACETE MURCIA#idk maybe that's why they have such strong manchego pride???#it would be interesting to see if there was this movement to include albacete or at least part of it in la mancha#due to cultural ties?#also fun fact for thf longest time the capital of albacete was chinchilla!#i don't know if the province was still called albacete or not tho#but i find that wild cause i've been to chinchilla abd it's just. a town#like la roda or puertollano would've made better capitals ffs#also i really like the idea of madrid being in la mancha 🥺#i like it better how it is now cause it works better as its own thing#but i love how culturally it's super close to la mancha <3
