inside you are two wolves
one wants to look up spoilers for the book you are reading because you are bored and want a reason to keep reading
the other wants to be surprised if anything interesting happens

Yes hi hello fellow bookworms! ‘Tis I, here to impart wisdom you probably all had already, but what the hell, I have to do something with my time 😂
So. Quitting books. DNF-ing, as we like to call it, because quitting doesn’t sound as fancy. Some people hate doing it, because they feel like they’ve somehow betrayed the bookworm life™, so consequently, they put themselves through the pain and misery of bad books. I am here to tell these people that it’s 100% okay to stop reading a book if it’s not something that you particularly need at that time in your life (or ever).
We can’t always like every single book that we come across. In a perfect world, we would, but unfortunately, it’s not a perfect world because I haven’t yet discovered a way to befriend all the dogs that exist. And honestly, I think it’s a good thing that we don’t like all the books ever, because otherwise, heated debates over them would never take place. And we all know how much bookworms relish in telling people they’re wrong for not liking their precious cinnamon roll of a book (*whispers* shut up, you do that too). This being said, DNF-ing books can be a very cathartic experience. Putting down a bad book fills you with such a sense of peace, when you realise that you’re now free to read something else, something that you’d actually enjoy.
I know it’s hella difficult to admit that you don’t like a book (I mean, aren’t bookworms supposed to LOVE EVERY WRITTEN WORD? plot twist: no, they’re not). But always keep in mind that trying to force yourself to get through something you’re not enjoying can throw you into a reading slump (this has happened to me and it was horrible 0/10 do not recommend) and really affect your reading habits. Yes, it may feel like a relief/accomplishment to get through something you hate, but why put yourself through that? When you can easily say “nope, fuck it, fuck this, I deserve better”.
Time is precious. Our TBRs are ever growing. Say no to wasting time and energy on books you don’t click with. Embrace the idea that not all books are for everyone. You’re still a certified bookworm even if you DNF books. No shame, no guilt.
