Brrbrrbrrbrrbrrbrrbrr *crashes into wall* rottmnt Mikey/Donnie with a chaotic reader who uses it/its pronouns and discovering the vast world of neopronouns? Platonic or not, or with additional turtles, up to you!

As much as I absolutely adore it/it's reader i had a hard time coming up with interesting things to say, so they're both a little short unfortunately..

Warnings; Mikey has some typical pronoun confusion, he rly means well dw

It's a Neopronoun

- Donnie -

Donnie was confused at first, not opposed, just confused. He hadn't heard of it/its pronouns before and he was curious as to what it meant.

You explained of course, knowing he meant no harm with his questioning.

"It's a neopronoun. Like a pronoun other than she, he, or they. It/Its specifically is like uhm.. referring to an object, is the best way to explain the use. Obviously don't say that to people who use it/it's, but that's it essentially."

He nodded along and hummed, taking in the information before trying it out for himself.

"So.. okay, tell me if this is right. My partner is in my lab, it helps with calculations, and it helps keep my sane when my brothers interrupt me. It's favorite brother is me, it's boyfriend."

You rolled your eyes at the last comment, but nodded anyway.

"Yeah, that's right Don."

And so from then on he spent quite a bit of time researching neopronouns, it was a whole new possibility to how one referred to others.

He read up as much as he could, even taking the time to try out one or two for himself in private.

They didn't quite stick, but he was happy he had done it nonetheless.

And he was more than happy to explain the concept to his brothers when they asked, he did like flaunting his intelligence.

And you didn't mention the fact that you had introduced him to them, you could let him have this one.

When you mentioned it/it's pronouns Mikey was a little hesitant

"I mean.. I don't wanna like.. refer to you as less than a person? I don't wanna demean you or anything.."

And as nice as the sentiment was, you had to gently explain to him that's not what he was doing, that there was a difference between calling someone an "It" to hurt, and referring to someone with their preferred pronouns.

And once you put it in that light it seemed to click in his head.

"Oh! So.. you wanna be an it?"

"Yeah, but don't say 'an it', that'll come off derogatory."

And he nodded, understanding the sentiment

For a while after that he would gently ask you about pronouns he didn't recognize, he always tried to google them first, but came to you to double check he had it right.

And over time he didn't need to double check anymore, always making sure to research and ask about someone's pronouns before referring to them using them.
