Interaction
Hello! I’m Lithgaeril, and while I primarily interact with fandom on ao3, I made a blog for the times when that isn’t as convenient. However, there are probably a few important things I should have on the record here, ranging from topics I won’t touch to how frequently you can expect a reply.
If you don’t read below the cut, here’s the very watered down tl;dr: I’m always down to talk tolkien, just don’t be a dick! Also I don’t usually reply quick, sorry.
Availability
1) I can’t guarantee I’ll be on more than a couple times a week (though at other times I may be available multiple times a day, it all depends on my energy levels and schedule). I do try to check at least once a day if I’m participating in any events that involve communication.
2) At present, I am only following event blogs whose events I may participate in. This is to avoid the infinite scroll sinkhole, not because I don’t like other people’s content. This may change in the future, if I become more active on this blog.
Content Specific
3) I flat out refuse to engage in discourse. I used to find it fun, but now I mostly find it ruins my enjoyment of things I love. I may make an original post (using my unique tags to avoid the main tag search) discussing my thoughts on a subject that is considered controversial, but I will not add these sorts of comments onto other people’s posts and if you try to argue with me on mine, I will ignore or possibly block you. I do my best to keep any possibly controversial post out of the main tags, so if you’re reading it on my blog, you’re welcome to leave, unfollow, or even block me. I don’t care. If you’re just curious about my opinion on a controversial topic, ask me and I’ll probably (but not definitely) respond.
4) I am generally open to NSFW discussion, but please always ask first. I will always try to extend the same courtesy in any conversation. If you are a minor, do not initiate conversations regarding NSFW topics. If we get to talking about headcanons/ideas/etc. and you either don’t want to go anywhere near NSFW or you’re a minor, please specify that you don’t want the conversation going in that direction. This will let me know not to bring up anything NSFW without the need to disclose any personal information like your age
Comments/Criticism
5) Please do not compliment my headcanons or works by disparaging someone else’s. Everybody has things they like better and things they can’t stand at all, but comments like “I love that you did ‘x’ instead of the more common ‘y’, which I hate” can definitely be seen by people who like ‘y’. Not to mention, I often hold more than one, sometimes conflicting, headcanons about characters, and it’s very possibly I like ‘y’, too.
6) If you have a legitimate concern with something I have written or posted (ex. you believe it perpetuates racism, transphobia, ableism, etc), please let me know specifically which part is the problem and how, so that I may research the topic further and make changes where necessary.
7) If I say something that contradicts canon and fail to mention that fact, feel free to politely let me know, as sometimes I truly am not aware, but also please know that sometimes I break canon deliberately. That’s part of the joy of fic writing
In Conclusion
8) Alright, I think that’s all the disclaimers lmfao. Fun fact about me: I’m the person who actually reads the EULA/ToS & Privacy Policy :)
9) I do actually enjoy talking to people (although I confess, I *am* always this wordy)! If you want to talk about Tolkien’s work in general, my works/ideas, or even send me fic recs, please feel free! I enjoy in-depth discussions, learning about other people’s ideas & how they differ from mine, and brainstorming fun ideas for fics/hcs/etc! Please don’t be nervous just bc we’re not mutuals or whatever other reason you might be able to think up. I am equally open to asks and messages, but I will post asks publicly unless otherwise specified.

Inconvenient Truths
If we have learned anything in 2020, through the pandemic and the lead-up to the November election, it is that social media is really nothing less than a battle ground of opposing ideas. It is where relationships are splintered, where liars and fakes are as common as truth-tellers and the legit, where conspiracy theories come home to roost, where curated content begins to sound a lot like an echo chamber.
And where we go to replenish our dopamine drip.
It doesn’t take a social scientist or tech whiz to tell us these things, but when they do, as in The Social Dilemma, a Netflix Original docu-drama, it speaks volumes. After all, the people interviewed in the 90-minute social media bashing are all former employees of some of the biggest, baddest blue ribbon tech firms in the world, or noted academics who have more chops than a butcher.
Tumblr media
If Netflix was hoping to sound a call to action, they are probably a little late. We’ve known for a long time that social media and even email sites have their tentacles wrapped around us, that advertising has become more direct and specific, that we are--just like the point was made multiple times throughout the film--the product itself. After all, we don’t pay for these things, unless you are one who pays for the premium LinkedIn access.
In other words, the price of free, or to be a little less blunt, the price of participation, is that we must endure a lot of inconvenient things we may not otherwise like, but are willing to tolerate because the sites and services allow us to stay in touch with so many people.
Let’s look at some of those inconveniences. We are barraged with a steady stream of advertising that has been fired with laser accuracy, thanks to the sites’ knowing practically everything there is to know about us. My Facebook and Instagram feeds are littered with bikes, cameras, craft beer, and vegan recipes. Somewhere along the line I made it abundantly clear that these are high-interest areas in my life.
We are followed wherever we go. Yes, occasionally we have to answer a little question on our phones about the apps we install, and whether it’s OK for them to keep up with us. When I look at my Google tracks, it basically serves as a mapped history of everything I have done, everywhere I have been. By the way, how do you think Google Maps knows to make the freeway color red, indicating a slowdown? Simple. It is monitoring the speed of everyone on that same road who happens to have the same app as you. The result is crowdsourced information without anyone having to tap a single letter or number.
These sites can also track how long we linger in a given location. Thus, they have correctly deduced that I not only go to craft breweries, but (at least before COVID) am also highly likely to blow--I mean spend--an hour or two there. And I’m not just whistling Dixie, you know. So many beers, so little time.
They know the hotels I frequent (Hilton properties, in case you were wondering). They know I am a rare customer indeed at a chain restaurant, although I do have a minor record of dining at Red Robin or Mellow Mushroom. They know where I buy my gas. They know I tend to take the old two-lane roads. And they know that I stop the van for every old neon sign I have never yet photographed. Don’t believe me? Check out my Insta feed someday (@nickgerlich).
I could go on, but the point is clear: Our lives are open books on social media, and not just because of the things we post. The book of our life is open to them specifically because we allowed them to read it. Those apps, our phones...they are just the facilitators in this game. When we skipped through the Terms Of Service agreement and checked the box without reading a word, we gave them carte blanche.
And guess what? I have no problem with any of this. I actually like being considered “the product,” because it means they are trying to sell to me. I am in control of my wallet, not the other way around, and if in the process of all this, I receive ever more accurate advertising catered to my likes, my life is better. Think about all the crap you see advertised on network television on any given evening. They are using a shotgun in hopes of hitting a few targets along the way. Social media sites, though, are shooting rifles.
In other words, I am not afraid of them. No, they should be afraid of me. I am the one whose money they covet. I understand and accept their revenue model imperative, because as long as they can sell ads, I can keep using the site for nothing. I am willing to trade parts of my life in exchange for what I see as entertainment, even with all the warts and pimples that over-use and addiction can render.
As for all of those former employees appearing in the film, I suspect they all just started feeling a little bit guilty of the successes their efforts and employers were enjoying. The market cap on some of these firms is mind-blowing, testament to the fact that wealth is not finite, but instead created based on the faith that investors have in these companies. I’m not sure what these people are going to do in their self-exiled unemployment, unless they were able to sell off a bunch of stock to fund their guilty conscience.
We must remember this important point: no one made any of us sign up for Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, etc. We did it of our own volition, and how we use it is our business, whether we simply scroll through once in a while, or whether we use it to score enough Likes and Loves to make us feel liked and loved ourselves. Dopamine feels pretty good, doesn’t it? It is implicit that we accepted the terms of engagement, even if we didn’t really read them. “You want to advertise to me while I post pics and videos? OK. Knock yourselves out.”
And even if social media have torn asunder more relationships this year than we would like, we can even control that. Simply quit interacting with the folks whose opinions you loathe, and the algorithms will take care of things pretty quickly. They’ll just fall off your feed. Kinda like I did about six weeks ago. I didn’t have to unfriend, unfollow, block, or delete anyone, and already my feed is like a breath of fresh air.
I just wish I had enough money to buy all those cool bikes and cameras I’m seeing. Cooking dinner is easy enough, but the big boy toys cost big bucks. Hey, can you give me a little love on this?

   | Rules |
* * *
Hello! I’m J and I live in the UK. This blog is very slow activity! I have 10 + years RP experience and I’m a muse hoarder.
* * *
   | Basics |
Mun is 25+ but won’t be writing any smut due to personal preference. I work full time and have a life (even if it’s small) outside of RP, so this blog runs off the queue system.
There are 20+ muses on this blog with multiple threads each, hence why I make use of my queue and ask for your patience with replies. The muses I have more inspiration for will take priority but I’ll get to other threads when I can.
Mutuals, if you’d be so good as to fill in my interest checker, that gives me the green light to start sending you memes as and when you reblog them :)
Please don’t follow and unfollow repeatedly for my attention. Because you’ll get my attention and find yourself blocked.
I won’t follow personal blogs from here. Any personal blogs who follow and show no clear sign of owning an RP sideblog will be soft blocked. I’d prefer not to interact with anyone under the age of 18, even though there’s no mature content on this blog.
Due to limited free time and energy it can take me anywhere from a few days to a week to follow you back once I’ve checked out your blog. I’ll get to it as soon as I can!
Asks will go into the queue along with other general replies. You’re welcome to continue the thread, but I’d prefer a new post if you do!
   | Selectivity |
This blog is, mostly for my own personal sanity, mutuals only and highly selective.
I only follow blogs whose writing I feel a vibe with or characters I’m eager to interact with. I like to keep my dash tidy! Because of this I'll only follow blogs who have examples of their writing for me to see.
I’m highly unlikely to follow if I see an excessive amount of dash drama, NSFW imagery, OOC posts or a lot of long, uncut threads with mostly one line replies. This is as stated above, to keep my dashboard tidy!
As time goes on I may unfollow people via softblocking, usually only because of the above reasons, but it may be due to your blog going inactive for longer than 6 months or due to a lack of interaction between us. If I unfollow during a period of inactivity but you come back to your blog and want to be mutuals again, that’s completely fine!
Some of my muses are private and open to plotting only. I do not accept ask memes for these muses.. Please see the muse list for details!
   | Shipping |
I’m very, very picky about shipping. However, if I feel sufficient chemistry between the muses and we’ve been writing together long enough for me to feel comfortable, I may be willing to discuss a pairing!
Canons x OC ships are welcome here. As mentioned above, there will be no smut on this blog. For ship partners of mine, I’m willing to write events leading up to and events shortly after smut with a time jump/fade to black in the middle. Specifics can be discussed in IMs, if you wish.
   | Misc |
I prefer to write longer responses. Multi para/novella style is my jam so I apologise in advance if I get carried away! I enjoy setting the scene and getting into those little details. As such I’m really not into one liners. The only exception I make for these is memes where our muses are texting eachother. I just don’t really get anything out of them.
This is a duplicate friendly blog!
Found Family is my favourite trope ever, but I also enjoy writing angst, fluff, horror and action/adventure type scenarios. Crossovers are encouraged because I love ‘em.
I don’t mind heavy violence and mild gore but I will not do A/O/B or non-con related plots.
If we’re mutuals who have been writing together a while then I’ll probably know, but otherwise? Please specify muse in your asks and when sending in memes! This also applies to multimuse blogs who I kindly ask to tell me which of their muses the ask is from.
If you don’t have clear links to rules or a bio on your blog then I’ll be hesitant to follow because I always read those first as well as checking out your writing style!
I have no triggers myself, I only ask that you tag your NSFW content with a tag that isn’t super convoluted or weird so my filter can pick it up. But if you need me to tag anything please let me know! Never feel worried or shy about sending me a message or even an anonymous ask if you need to. I will tag at your request.
I make some of my icons but the majority are from HollowArt or were gifted to me. I’m not very good at aesthetic type stuff and I certainly won’t judge your blog by how it looks- it’s all about the writing :)
* Thank you for reading! *

1: How tall or short do you wish you were? >> Height isn’t important to me. I’m slightly taller than Can Calah, shorter than Eden, and substantially smaller in general than Vinternoll, and that’s the way I like it. (I am usually around the same height in headspace as I am in meatspace) 2: What’s your dream pet (real or not)? >> Gaudior the winged unicorn (A Swiftly Tilting Planet)
3: Do you have a favorite clothing style? >> I have quite a few favourite clothing styles. I’ll always be some sort of goth at heart, I will say.
4: What was your favorite video game growing up? >> My favourite computer games were The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis and Alien Tales. I had like a weird kid-crush on Sal of deCentury, the alien game show host... (and who at all is surprised)
5: What three things/people do you think of most each day: >> Oh, I don’t know.
6: If you had a warning label, what would yours say? >> Warning: Black Carcosa is a caustic irradiated substance. Prolonged contact with Black Carcosa may cause severe mental deterioration, burns and lesions (or legions, even), and enhanced delusions of reference. Please consult your psychologist before engaging Black Carcosa. Keep away from children, pets, your electronics, and anything else whose innocence and integrity you hold dear.
7: What is your Greek personality type (Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Choleric, or Melancholic)? >> Primarily Phlegmatic, it seems.
8: Are you ticklish? >> Not usually.
9: Are you allergic to anything? >> No.

18: Do you believe in ghosts/spirits? >> I am open to the experience.
19: Do you like space or the ocean more? >> I am more interested in what lies beyond this planet than what lies on it, although this planet is also extremely fascinating in all its complexity.
20: Are you religious? >> Intensely.
21: Pet peeves? >> Passivity.
22: Would you rather be nocturnal or diurnal (opposite of nocturnal)? >> I... am fine being mostly nocturnal.
23: Favorite constellation? >> Orion. Always Orion.
24: Favorite star? >> I haven’t chosen one.
25: Do you like ball-jointed dolls? >> Sure, especially custom ones.
26: Any phobias or fears? >> Meh.

29: Favorite movie? >> The Fountain / Interstellar.
30: Do you get scared easily? >> No.
31: How many pets have you own in your lifetime? >> I used to take care of a couple of cats, for a short time. Fyodor and Hela. But almost all of the pets I’ve lived with have technically been under the custodianship of others.

38: Hugs or kisses? >> Meh.
39: Who is someone you would like to see/visit right now? >> I’m fine not doing that.
40: Who is someone you love deeply? >> Can Calah.
41: Any piercings you want? >> Sure, if the opportunity presented itself. My focus is mostly on tattoos.
42: Do you like tattoos and piercings? >> Quite.
43: Do you smoke or have you ever done so? >> I smoke occasionally.
44: Talk about your crush, if you have one! >> My crushes at this point are pretty much celebrities and fictional characters, which is to say I have way too many of them to answer this question.

46: A sound you really love? >> The sounds people make when they’re aroused but trying to keep it together.

55: Have any mental disorders? >> I’m more than pretty sure I do, but I haven’t been properly diagnosed a day in my life.
56: What does your URL mean? >> It was a play on “Lost Carcosa”. It eventually came to just represent... me. Now it’s a brand of sorts, so I am loath to use any other username (save for blackThirteen, which I sometimes use on websites where it’s not already taken by someone else; blackThirteen + foundCarcosa = blackCarcosa, which is what I really should be using, but it’s a little late now).
57: What three words describe you the most? >> Just three? Ha!
58: Do you believe in evolution? >> I have been convinced of evolution’s veracity.
59: What makes you unfollow a blog? >> Over a month of inactivity or a change to content that doesn’t interest me are the two main reasons I unfollow. Sometimes I unfollow for things like political platforming or too much unsourced content or having too much of the same kind of content on my dashboard or... any number of reasons, really. Sometimes a person’s opinion (or the way they present their opinion) just pisses me off and I’m not invested enough in the blog to keep them around anyway.
60: What makes you follow a blog? >> Content that I enjoy, usually. It’s pretty simple. Sometimes I have compulsive following sprees and then I have to prune later, which is a thing about myself that I’ve just gotten used to.
61: Favorite kind of person: >> Right.
62: Favorite animal(s): >> Snakes, spiders, otters, capybaras, and so on.

64: Favorite emoticon: >> The cry-laughing one. I abuse the shit out of that face.
65: Favorite meme: >> Right now, probably BONELESS or that one image with the guy and the two girls that is so goddamn versatile that I haven’t gotten sick of it yet despite the fact that it’s everywhere.
66: What is your MBTI personality type? >> My last result was INTJ. I don’t care much for MBTI anymore.
67: What is your star sign? >> Gemini sun, Gemini moon, Scorpio rising, etc etc.
68: Can your dog roll over on command, if you have a dog? >> ---
69: What outfit out of all your clothes do you like to wear the most? >> Ghast brand rave pants and a Doctor Strange shirt, it seems.
70: Post a selfie or two? >> http://foundcarcosa.tumblr.com/tagged/this-malleable-shell
71: Do you have platform shoes? >> I don’t.
72: What is one random but interesting fact about yourself? >> I used to be extremely competent at Guitar Hero / Rock Band because back when those games were popular, Best Buy and Circuit City would have stations set up in their stores where you could play them; and because I was homeless and tumblr wasn’t invented to become my biggest timesink yet, I would just stay in the stores playing guitar games all day. So I got good at it. As one does.
73: Can you do a front flip? >> No.
74: Do you like birds? >> Sure.
75: Do you like to swim? >> I can’t swim, so I don’t know if I’d like it or not. I mean, probably.
76: Is swimming or ice skating more fun to you? >> I can’t do either.

83: How many followers do you have? >> Here, 629.
84: Can you run a mile within ten minutes? >> I can’t run a mile, period.

86: Can you touch your toes and keep your legs straight completely? >> No.
87: What are your birthstones? >> Emerald, I think? I forget the other.
88: If you were an animal, which one would you be? >> *waggles Mordred’s spidery legs*
89: If a flower could aesthetically represent you, what kind would it be? >> Probably a black calla lily.
90: A store you hate? >> Abercrombie and Fitch. Their store is fragranced or something. Like they put cologne swatches in the air ducts. IDFK. It’s aggravating. Also, I hate that kind of fashion.
91: How many cups of coffee can you drink in one day? >> I usually drink zero.
92: Would you rather be able to fly or read minds? >> Flying is more interesting than being Sookie Stackhouse.
93: Do you like to wear camo? >> No.
94: Winter or summer? >> I have a preference for winter.
95: How long can you hold your breath for? >> I don’t know.

99: Favorite type of shoes >> I prefer combat boot type shoes.
100: Where do you live? >> *grumbles*
101: Are you a vegetarian or vegan? If so, why? >> Pescatarian. I just don’t care for meat much. I’ll eat a chicken sandwich sometimes, but otherwise I’ll stick to seafood.
102: What is your favorite mineral or gem? >> Smoky quartz is nice. Bismuth is cool as shit. Geodes are where it’s at, though.
103: Do you drink milk? >> No.
104: Do you like bugs? >> Most of them, yeah.
105: Do you like spiders? >> My children. <3
106: Something you get paranoid about? >> My physical health, sometimes.
107: Can you draw?: >> I can. I can’t draw well, though.
108: Nosiest question you have ever been asked? >> I don’t know. Nosy questions don’t bother me, though.
109: A question you hate being asked? >> Anything regarding my gender. Like, who cares. Stop boring me.
110: Ever been bitten by a spider? >> Not that I’m aware of.
111: Do you like the sound of waves at the beach? >> Oh, yes.
112: Do you prefer cloudy or sunny days? >> It depends on how I feel that day in general. Either is good, but sometimes one is definitely better than the other.
113: Someone you’d like to kiss or cuddle right now: >> ---
114: Favorite cloud type: >> Definitely cumulonimbus.

117: Favorite thing about a person: >> ---
118: Fruits or vegetables? >> All of the above.
119: Something you want to do right now: >> I’m fine with what I’m doing.
120: Is the ocean or sky prettier? >> How could I possibly choose one over the other...? I like it best when I can observe both at the same time, actually. Maximum loveliness.
121: Sweet or sour foods? >> Savoury, spicy, sour. Sweetness only as a balancing agent.
122: Bright or dim lights? >> Dim and diffuse, always.
123: Do you believe in a certain magical creature? >> I am open to all experiences.
124: Something you hate about Tumblr: >> The poor functionality bits. Coding issues, inefficiency in design, stuff I can’t do anything about because I don’t work there.
125: Something you love about Tumblr: >> Everything else, more or less. I wouldn’t spend so much time here if I wasn’t genuinely enjoying myself.
126: What do you think about the least? >> How would I know?
127: What would you want written on your tombstone? >> I am not interested in a tombstone at all.
128: Who would you like to punch in the face right now? >> Someone sexy who had a kink for being punched in the face.
129: What is something you love but also hate about yourself? >> The fact that I am so easily bored and so interested in experience leads to interesting experiences and a tendency to be open to new things... but sometimes it just leads to recklessness and irritability.
130: Do you smile with your teeth showing for pictures? >> Yeah, most of the time.
131: Computer or TV? >> Computer, which is often used as a television anyway.

140: Would you say you are a good or bad influence to others? >> It doesn’t matter to me either way.
141: Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts/help? >> I love to give gifts, but I also love to receive them. No reason I should have to choose. What I hate is compulsory gift exchanging. Miss me completely with that bull mess.
142: What makes you angry?: >> Eh.
143: How many languages do you speak fluently? >> One.
144: Do you prefer boys, girls, and/or non-binaries? >> Meh.
145: Are you androgynous? >> More or less.
146: Favorite physical thing about yourself: >> I am pretty fond of my facial shape and features, and the kinda “greyboy” androgynous shape of my body. Also, this melanin is poppin. I would gladly take a little more, even.
147: Favorite thing about your personality: >> What’s a personality?
148: Name three people you would like to talk to right now in person. >> Meh?
149: If you could go back into time and live in one era, which would you choose? >> Why would I do that?
