In 2023, India's car market achieved a significant milestone by selling over 4 million passenger vehicles for the first time.

This was an 8.33% increase from the previous year, with a total of 4,108,000 units sold. The growth was consistent throughout the year, with each month setting a new record for sales.

The SUV segment dominated the market, accounting for 48.7% of all passenger vehicle sales. This was a notable increase from its 42% share in 2022.

Hatchbacks were the next most popular, with a 30% market share, followed by sedans at 9.4% and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) at 8.7%.

Maruti Suzuki led the market, with seven of the top ten best-selling cars in India, including the Swift and WagonR.

Hyundai also performed well, achieving its highest-ever domestic sales, with SUVs making up 60% of its sales.

Verdict The Volkswagen Arteon R Shooting Brake is a manufactured and exclusive fast station wagon. It’s a shame that the quality of the interior can’t match its image, but in typical VW R fashion, the driving dynamics of the hottest Arteon feel super safe and surprisingly fast. It supports many functions and many common kits. It may not be the most exciting machine in its class, but there are some situations where it can be felt from its depth-as long as you keep the adjustable suspension soft to maximize comfort. The machine also acquires a distinctive character. There’s a lot of phony going on through the in-cab speakers, which you may want to cut out, but the R mode mainly provides a higher throttle response. The thick midrange feels very strong, but the engine still pulls on its red line, clearly sliding to add to the fun. For a large machine with a long wheelbase it turns and handles with real agility, and 4WD also gives it safety so you can easily take advantage of what it has to offer, with torque vectoring as part of 4WD. Wheel drive helps to control the volume of the vehicle. However, the steering is inert like all fast VWs, offering a good level of accuracy but not much feedback - and the chassis isn’t too playful either. There’s a small amount of adaptability, but despite its capabilities, the Arteon R Shooting Brake isn’t a car you’ll try. It’s not a hot hatching, so it’s fine. It is relentlessly fast and efficient at moving the ground whether the road is flowing or winding. But there is a caat. Dynamic Chassis Control adaptive dampers feel better on the softer side of their shell, because with the R’s 19-inch wheels, the ride is intricate in more stable settings. In any case, the restraint of the body is affirmative, which contributes to the inspiring feeling. He owns a locally built 2018 FAW V2 and he’s pretty happy with the car. According to him, the main reason for choosing the V2 is the features it offers at the price. I consider the Cultus, WagonR and imported options, but the V2 is the clearer winner. It seemed like a tough decision at first, but eventually it was pretty straightforward. Laraib has used a Pakistan -built V2 more than 3,000 kilometers so far and he said everyone was a smile. The car delivers up to 14.5 liters per kilometer within the city. Although there were some minor issues at first like the heating coming in automatic and 2nd gear which was a bit difficult. But both problems were solved by the dealer. Commenting on the comfort, Laraib said: ‘The interior is very spacious and the car is a pleasure to drive. In fact it is very fun to drive, it is honestly the VW Golf Gti of Pakistan.’

Maruti Suzuki launches new version of WagonR (Price, Mileage and Features)

The new WagonR with one-litre engine will deliver a fuel efficiency of 22.5 km per litre while the bigger 1.2 litre petrol powertain would return efficiency of 21.5 km per litre.

Automobile News: The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Wednesday launched a new version of its hatchback WagonR priced between Rs 4.19 lakh and Rs 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new WagonR comes with a new 1.2-litre petrol engine option along with another choice of 1-litre powertrain. It also comes with an automatic gear shift variant.

The one-litre manual versions are priced at Rs 4.19 lakh and Rs 4.69 lakh while the automated gear shift trim is tagged at Rs 5.16 lakh.

The 1.2-litre variants are priced between Rs 4.89 lakh and Rs 5.69 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

The vehicle has been developed on the Suzuki's fifth-generation HEARTECT platform and is wider and longer than its outgoing version.

As a result, the boot space has also gone up in the new model to 341 litres.

I suspect the average North American citizen never has to think too hard about the vagaries of import customs. Sure, maybe you've gone on vacation and gotten hassled a bit by some jackboot about exactly how much you paid for that fancy t-shirt you have on, but it doesn't occupy your daily thinkin' time. When you run an import/export business, however, what customs thinks of you rapidly becomes the only thing that matters.

A friend of mine who will remain nameless recently contracted me for a bit of help. He had been importing fancy sports cars, 4x4s, and tiny turbocharged shitboxes from Japan. Then he turns around and sells them for a massive profit. I didn't quite understand what "profit" meant in relation to selling cars, as all of mine are either sold to the insurance company, seized by police, or abandoned on the roadside; all three at a huge loss. By joining him at the shop and helping wrench once in awhile, I hoped that this whole money-making thing might rub off on me.

I had only been working there for a few weeks when the trouble with the government started. Some keener in the customs department had decided that a WagonR had an unacceptable amount of "plant material" on the body, and therefore represented a grotesque risk to the biodiversity of our fine nation. They certainly had my sympathy, as I often also didn't want to do my job for largely bullshit reasons, but the idea of a perfectly usable car being trapped in some chain-link hellhole for arbitrary reasons stuck in my craw. My new boss sent me down to the docks to "take care of it."

Upon arriving at the storage yard, I consulted quickly with the customs officials. At first, they were angry at me, but soon became infuriated when I demonstrated to them that coating the mossy underbody of the car with smouldering tire rubber (via four-wheel burnouts) was an effective defoliant that easily surpassed all documented standards for port entry.

Ola or Uber or owning a car, what is more beneficial?

In the recent times, the effects of new technology and ideas that ease our life have reached new levels. We are dependent on the internet from our basic groceries to booking a trip abroad. The world indeed is on our fingertips. Keeping this in mind there is a rising issue that is slowing down the automobile sector, the advent of hiring cabs online to take us to the ends of the city. From attending a wedding in the city to going on a vacation within the country, we can hire a cab by just sitting at our houses and scrolling through apps. Now that we are so dependent on this, people argue the hiring of an OLA or UBER against actually owning a car.

So let us compare the cost of actually buying a WagonR costing Rs 6.5 lakhs over a span of 5 years considering an average trip of 1000 kms per month. The various costs included are as follows:

Putting all this together, this works out to be Rs 18.3 per km if a driver’s salary is not included and Rs 33.3 per km is it is included. Now according to a survey of 25 rides in the city of Mumbai spread over peak and non peak hours, short and long hours, gives us an average of Rs 20 per km.
