Viral Video of Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma's Wake Up Sid Feels Capture Attention Online
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma After the triumph of Animal, fans have been on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating Ranbir Kapoor's next move. The internet buzzed with a recent video hinting at a potential collaboration between Ranbir and his Wake Up Sid co-star, Konkona Sen Sharma. Excitement soared as the video circulated across social media platforms, only to be quashed when filmmaker Karan Johar, associated with the Wake Up Sid project through Dharma Productions, shared another video from the same shoot, clarifying it was an advertisement—a revelation that left fans a tad disheartened. In this snippet, Konkona is heard urging a slumbering Ranbir with a familiar line, "Sid, wake up. It is Rishi's day." Karan Johar's caption fueled speculation, hinting at something brewing, leaving fans intrigued. One user echoed the collective sentiment, expressing, "Don't tease us like this," while actor Namit Das chimed in with a spirited "Wohoooo." The video initially surfaced on a dedicated Bollywood Reddit page, showcasing glimpses of Ranbir and Konkona clad in complementary blue and white attire. Contextually, the 2009 film Wake Up Sid, helmed by Ayan Mukerji, not only garnered critical acclaim but also struck gold at the box office. The on-screen chemistry between Ranbir and Konkona, portraying Siddharth Mehra and Aisha Banerjee, struck a chord, resonating deeply with audiences. Read the full article

*Barkha Singh shares insights on her upcoming show and her chemistry with Abhishek Banerjee*
Barkha Singh has been receiving a lot of praises for adapting to unique avatars for her projects. Be it Antara in 36 Farmhouse or Aisha in Masaba Masaba 2 which got her wide appreciation from the audiences. Keeping her fans on the hook, Barkha will be seen amusing them yet again with her character Maahi in The Great Wedding of Munnes.
Recently makers dropped the trailer of the show and it looks quirky and. Viewers are looking forward to unfold the chemistry between Barkha and Abhishek on-screen. Talking about the same Barkha mentioned, ““Even though Abhishek has cast me on shows through Casting Bay, we have never met before this. The first time I met him was in Mathura for shooting this show because they had already started shooting and I joined the schedule a little later, it was an absolute blast. We got along very well, better than I expected. We had a lot of give and take as actors because he is also someone who loves last-minute improvisations and I absolutely enjoyed it! We became great friends through the schedule.
Barkha further added, “We both as actors like having fun with the scene and we like to explore more than what is written in the script. Certain suggestions get shot -down and certain suggestions are also taken. Working with Abhishek was a lot of fun and we played- off each other’s energy and I hope that it also translates in the show.”
Well, looks like Barkha is going to woo the audiences once again with her different avatar in The Great Wedding of Munnes.

Wake Up Sid: Life and/in Mumbai through the privileged eye
By Vartika Rastogi
Tumblr media
[Promotional Poster for Wake Up Sid. Photo Credits: Dharma Productions]
Ayan Mukherjee's Wake Up Sid, released just over 10 years ago, is known as one of Bollywood's finest feel-good, coming-of-age movies with its brilliant cinematography, perfect soundtrack, and ofcourse the chemistry between its leading actors. But while I loved the movie growing up, rewatching it in my current circumstances — as a post-graduate relocated to Mumbai — has made me realise that the movie has not aged well at all.
In fact, Wake Up Sid is a prime example of what happens when privilege is allowed to tell the story. Indeed, the protagonist Sid Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor) is the poster boy for spoiled slackers everywhere, a manchild whose story revolves around (barely) realising his need for independence. In a classic case of Bollywood being problematic, this independence comes from his unhealthy dependence on Aisha Banerjee, a struggling writer from Calcutta (played by Konkona Sen Sharma), whom he barely even knows! In hindsight, we should've been able to figure out what a brat Sid is very early in the movie. When he fails his exams (because he never really studied for them), he reacts exactly how one shouldn't — by blaming his academically sound best friend, Rishi, for caring about his future — How dare Rishi pass when I can't? The fight ends with Sid throwing a tantrum, and ending up estranged with his friend. Later in the movie, he also subtly shames his friend Laxmi for her weight, disguising it as harmless banter. Yup. Worst friend ever. But if he treats his friends badly,  Sid is even worse with his family: not only does he recklessly spend his father's money, he is also especially unkind to his parents. Despite his mother's pampering and efforts to befriend him, he rebukes and pokes fun at her for her lack of education and broken English. An old adage says that we must judge a man by how he treats his mother — and how right it would be, in this case!
Tumblr media
Sid's blindness of privilege also comes with the characteristic lack of originality or personality. When Aisha asks him to show her the most beautiful part of glorious Mumbai, he takes her to Marine Drive — seriously! Of all the diverse wonders the city has to offer, Sid offers her the biggest, most overdone, most obvious cliché.
Tumblr media
Perhaps this is why he's so adamant to help Aisha find a flat to rent, which brings us to another privileged distortion in the movie. Mumbai is infamous for its land crunch, matchbox-sized flats, and nightmarish rent prices, making it one of the hardest cities to live in despite all its other excitements. Most Mumbaikars are familiar with the horrors of renting a flat in the city. However, Aisha is able to find a gorgeous, spacious, airy, and most importantly, affordable 1RK house to rent, and that, too, on Chapel Road in Bandra! How Aisha affords to rent this house without a flatmate or a job, and to redecorate it lavishly enough to inspire an entire generation of youngsters, is a mystery to everyone.
Tumblr media
[Aisha’s Flat in the movie. Photo Credits: Pinterest]
Even more unbelievable is that when Sid fights with his dad, runs away from home, and virtually moves in with Aisha (again, a girl he barely even knows)! Not only does he start living with her, she bears all his expenses too — another exploitation of the classic problematic trope of the woman as a rehabilitation centre for inept and immature men.
As mentioned before, the entire arc of Sid's independence depends on Aisha. The only reason why he gets an internship with the hip Mumbai Beat magazine (modelled after the Time Out! Magazine) is because Aisha already works there, and because she aggressively recommends Sid to them. It's nothing but *cough* nepotism *cough,* something that Sid is not in the least alien to (after all, his college seat and the job he turned down in his rich dad's firm were also favours not available to most people). However, the most unbelievable part of the movie is its ending: despite Sid's immature, irresponsible and bratty behaviour throughout the movie, Aisha — who is vastly different from him both in terms of responsibility and taste — falls in love with him! You know, because his effort to make a poached egg makes her believe that she can some day reform him (perhaps this movie would be better titled Wake Up Aisha!). Perhaps it's time to get over this movie.

Ranbir Kapoor as Siddharth Mehra in WAKE UP SID (2009), dir. Ayan Mukherjee
In just two months, I began to feel a strange love for Mumbai, as if it were my own.  What lay at the core of this inexplicable connection? My exciting new job? Or my little apartment? Or my newfound independence? What has this city given me that makes me love her so? Actually, the answer lay in front of me all along, I just didn’t see it. I met someone the first night I arrived in Mumbai. A boy, a friend, a roommate, a companion, whatever you want to call it. He was the complete opposite of me. He didn’t really have any ambitions or goals, but he sure knew how to live his life to the fullest. I wonder if the joy of turning a four-walled apartment into my own home would have been the same without his help. Or would that night have felt lonelier had he not kept me company with a cup of tea? When I first came to this city, I knew what my goals were. But now I realise that the joy of achieving these goals is greater when you have someone to share it with. Only now do I see that my strange love for this city is truly the love I feel for this special friend of mine. He’s the one who taught me the essence of love. - "New Girl in the City" by Aisha Banerjee
