one of the things ive seen a few ppl get wrong about duncan is like,,,, the idea that he doesnt care. that hes just kind of indifferent to what others do or how they perceive him, when like, he definitely isnt and never really has been. even in the first season we see him be pretty protective of his reputation of being all tough and mean. and while i think all stars took that aspect a bit too far, i also do genuinely find it more true to his character than how world tour portrayed him.

wow more people agreed with me that the burns cage was a bad episode than i had expected... i think i should clarify that i have no problem with people who like the episode or anything, i just think it was a really nasty thing that they would use this episode as a publicity stunt, using the sexuality of a character and promising to people that it would be openly revealed, and then NOT have him come out to the most important person in his life, and never have the words “I’m gay” leave the character’s mouth... a lot of lgbt people felt like this episode was a punch to the gut, i’ve heard story after story of lgbt people saying they related to smithers and say that smithers had an impact on their childhood, that they identified with this character and honestly i found him in the past to be one of the most positive representations of a gay character on tv... it was progressive, hm, 20 years ago. but i feel like he’s devolved into a stereotype, and this isn’t recent, it’s been getting worse and worse gradually but this episode where they decided it was finally time to cash in on his sexuality really takes the cake for me in “bad characterization” and its a really rotten way to make money by giving news outlets information about gay characters coming out!!! and then have THAT be the result... i dont know. i’m sorry i’ll shut up now
