I have yet to describe myself as an Afropolitan in part due to what I considered made someone an Afropolitan (the jet setter who moves between Europe and an array of African countries, London one minute, Nairobi the next and then Khartoum before returning back to Paris) but I wasn't necessarily adverse to the word, thinking it was the idea term to describe who I am now and the cultures I navigate within, this complex web of  hybrid  European-African cultures. But I had always held some reservations towards it: Africa, in the world of the Afropolitan, was also an that was presented in mirror images to the west. All these blogs out there that show the other Africa, the Africa you don't see, are usually filled with images of an African that reflects the west: it's cafes and beachside resorts and arty farty bars. And that is not to say these things do not exist, they do, but as Emma Dabiri but it seems now the only way Africa can be shown to be progressive, the only way the harmful single story of Africa can be dismantled is to show all the ways in which Africa is Europe. And that's a shame.
