His wife is Rán, Goddess of the Sea. They share nine daughters; the nine waves.

This is one of my favorite pieces from the artbook and not just because I'm Very Normal about Gladiia.

I don't know what the artist was portraying, but to me this is showing the contrast between Gladiia as the noble daughter, the Consul of Technology and Warfare (and what kind of society do you have where those two offices are the same? Not a nice one. Aegir society must be so fucked up! I hope we get to visit.) and Gladiia the Captain of the Abyssal Hunters 2nd Company. Swordfish.

It's interesting that all the blood is on her non-Hunter self, but also fitting, given that it's somewhat implied (if I didn't imagine it) that Gladiia pioneered the Abyssal Hunter surgery, meaning all the blood the Hunters spill is on her hands.

She looks weary. Tired. And there's a wierd possibly Seaborn structure in the mirror, either behind her Hunter self or growing out of the back of the neck where we know she has signs of starting to change into a Seaborn.

I don't think arknights' "races" are strictly biological categories, for obvious reasons. like, i'm pretty sure we already have confirmation that the sarkaz are a group of biologically distinctive peoples that just use the same name for historical/political reasons.

but see, i think the same can be said of the aegir. sharks and orcas are very different animals! so i think it's probably best to view the aegir as more akin to sarkaz than, say, lupo.

Aegir took the greataxe from its place on his back, and opened the door before him.

"I'm back..."

He leaned the axe by the doorframe, approaching his mother's bedside. She'd been there for a moon now, with no recovery in sight...

"I did it momma. You'd be so proud" he muttered, taking her clammy hand in his, "I finished my first job. It was hard, but..."

He paused, looking up at her.

"It's worth it if I know it will help you..." he blinked back tears, "now all you need to do is get better. Okay?"

"Please, momma..." he whispered, "Stay with me... please..."

"You have to get better, okay?"

Aegir's first foray into the marauder's art was when his mother fell ill. They didn't know what it was that she'd come down with, but it kept her abed for a couple moons.

As such, Aegir stepped up to keep their farm afloat while she rested. His payout was enough to see them through it, but every day he would come with uncertainty in his heart to her bedside, and pray to any gods willing to listen for her swift recovery.

His biggest wish is for her to live out her life for as many years as she's able. Selfish, probably, but she's all he has.

Arknights: Ægir conlang

Seeing how my recent conlang sketch that takes place in the same universe is so well received, I might as well share my second most realized conlang. this one is for the aquatic goths at the bottom of Tera's oceans.

the language employs a four consonant root system. like any semitic language but with an extra letter. this was shamelessly lifted from a now-missing language of Lichen the Fictioneer's Skjor. because Ægir is such an old norse aesthetic, and skjor has such in its name alone, I just had to incorporate this feature somehow. (To Lichen the Fictioneer, if this post ever finds you, First of all, I hope this feature won't end up copying what yours would be doing, as unlikely as that may be. second of all really big fan of your work, keep it up).

There are no plosives, affricates, clicks, ejectives, implosives, nor any consonants that completely close the airway. the closest to those would be fricatives, of which there will be many of as explained in the tentative section of this post. this will mean that Skadi's name would be more pronounced [Sxa,.ðhi']. I really like the phonaesthetics of this choice and will not be changing it any time soon.

Now that we got the confirmed features out of the way, let's look over some maybe-inserted ones:

I was thinking that what consonants there are will have a three-by-three-way distinction via voicing and articulation. voicing would distinguish voiced, breathy voiced, and voiceless. while articulation would be plain, aspirated, and palatalized. though I'm on the fence about the palatalization.

I am honestly stumped about what to encode morphologically with the aforementioned features listed above. maybe the classic person-number-case seeing as the four-consonant root system and lack of plosives meets my self-imposed quota of "features I have yet to see in a conlang".
