Sometimes I just sit in my chair and start wondering about what a powerful message Mikasa Ackerman would have made, if only Isayama didn’t turn out to be a weasel like any other male author writing shounen stories. 

 Just think about it for a second.

 What if we could see her interact with other people, creating friendships in a way that Eren was allowed to. What if we could see the bond between her and Sasha actually taking form, instead of those few in-between fillers being thrown our way, or witness her rivalry with Annie growing beyond Eren, before it turned out that they were enemies.

 If we could see her interest about her clan and the history of her parents, her own power's and skills' origins.

 What if at a time the guy she spent a decade pinning after told her he hated her since they were children, she had an established bunch of friends and real family members to rely on. 

 What if she was hurt, but knew there were people she could always count on, no matter what. What if there was someone else besides Armin (who will be gone in a few years) to cheer her up, and I mean really cheer her up, because Armin failed spectacularly.

 What if this arc wasn’t about her getting over Eren (what if for once her story was not about Ereh), but instead about getting on with her life along with all those other people.

 Can you imagine what a great massege it would make for all readers, but especially girls, especially younger girls. 

 That having your entire world circling around a man is never gonna work out and so it is not only healthy but also just simply smart to make other relationships in your life. To have friends, to have your own dreams and a family you can lean on at times like this. 

 You know, instead of having this dumpster fire of a canon where Sasha is dead, Armin soon will be dead, Connie and Jean are being elusive rocks in her life for all we could see in the manga till now, and Mikasa didn’t have a single, meaningful conversation for four years about her family or her legacy with Kiyomi or Levi and suddenly she is forced by narrative imperative to bond with Annie, whom she despised even before she knew she was a titan and a killer?

 B-but we have a panel of Mikasa with wings!

 Oh, I’m sorry, that fixes everything.
