people should tag their yugioh posts with like. something to let ppl know that they believe in the "marik ishtar has a dissociative disorder" headcanon. personally i don't agree with it and everyone i've seen headcanon stuff for that doesn't have dissociative disorder and is really disrespectful about the whole thing? plus a lot of people believe that it was intentionally written that way into canon as if kazuki takahashi knows anything about that and doesn't constantly write a "my soul split into pieces and im haunting myself" narrative. like why not headcanon that with the other characters then? did you really have to pick marik for his violent tendencies becoming a separate entity from his true self or whatever?

it's harmful if you don't know anything about it and also everything in canon is consistently explained with magic and the evil buried in the creation of millennium items. you ever get so angry you feel like you aren't yourself? takahashi took that feeling and exaggerated it for his story because he thought it was cool. there may be parallels to dissociation but they aren't intentional. i feel like that's obvious. like. yugioh started in the 90s. we as a society didn't know shit about DID/OSDD/etc at all other than harmful stereotypes if anything. we still don't.

if you don't have a dissociative disorder, why would you be making that headcanon anyway? wouldn't you be annoyed by a neutrotypical person making autism headcanons or ocd headcanons if all they did was parrot the media's interpretation of what those are like?

and if you are gonna hc it only with marik, have you considered that it might be offensive to choose a darker skinned antagonist with violent tendencies? he's fighting a battle with himself because he doesn't know how to break the cycle of abuse he endured. he's angry and wants revenge but his father is already dead so he has nobody to lash that out on other than this vague idea of the pharaoh. also? the millennium rod is bursting at the seams with dark magic? that's gonna fuck someone up big time if they can't handle themselves as is. is your only knowledge of how this works coming from fight club?
