drake walker: vogue - 20 questions
Tumblr media
If you haven’t heard of Vogue’s video series, 73 Questions, look it up after reading this. So fun.
I didn’t want to write 73 questions so I wrote 20 instead. Just a bit of Sunday fun and fluff.

It’s Saturday morning in Valtoria and Vogue is on their way to meet Drake Walker, the Duke of Cordonia. He is our latest subject of our monthly video series ‘20 Questions,’ in which we ask him 20 quick fire questions. Vogue readers have been desperate to see Drake take part in this series; you asked, we delivered!
We reach the estate and have to confirm our identities. My video recorder is scanned - I don’t know why- and a security guard follows our car as we make our way further into the estate towards the villa where Drake and his family live.
The front door is opened. I take my video camera out to record the first glimpse of our subject. And I must say.. Drake Walker is a beefcake. White t-shirt, dark blue jeans, brown boots.. Broad shoulders.. Broad chest.. Warm smile.
‘Hey there,’ he greets me, holding out his hand.
Our interview starts… NOW!
1. How are you this morning?
I’m really good actually. How are you?
2. I’m great thanks for asking! What’s your favourite time of day?
Drake leads me through the hallway where I see lots of family photos are hung up on the walls and candles are lit. We enter the living room which is a big space painted dove grey with a huge fireplace on one wall. We settle down on a blue L shaped sofa and Drake slings his leg over the other, relaxed. The coffee table has two crystal tumblers and a bottle of whiskey positioned on it.
My favourite time of day has to be evening. It’s quiet and my wife and I pour ourselves a drink and sit by the fire, just drinking and talking.
3. What’s your favourite drink?
Drake smirks.  ‘I was hoping you’d ask that.’ He reaches over to the coffee table and pours me a glass of the whiskey. He then pours himself one and we toast. ‘To Vogue!’ I shriek, excited. Drake chuckles and sips his whiskey. ‘To Vogue.’
4.  As you are being interviewed by Vogue, do you like fashion?
I hate fashion ha! But I have become more educated about it, thanks to Camille. She’s influenced me to ‘elevate’ my look, I guess. More shirts, nice jeans. But I have no idea what I’m doing.
5. What’s your favourite place in your house?
Drake grins. ‘Let me show you.’
I follow him through the house towards the back where French doors are opened out onto a terrace. A long wooden table and chairs take pride of place, while fairylights are strung up above.
‘Very nice!’ I say. ‘What do we do out here?’
‘We hang out,’ he tells me. ‘If it’s a warm evening, we have dinner out here and enjoy family time.’
As if on cue, two little girls bound outside and throw themselves at Drake. The older one is beaming up at him then looks at me. ‘Hi!’ she says simply. The youngest watches me warily, inching closer to Drake to take his hand.
‘This is Lily and Luna,’ Drake tells me. ‘Girls, say hi to Vogue.’
‘What are you doing?’ Lily asks him.
‘I’m answering questions, baby,’ Drake tells her. He looks down at Luna and scoops her up into his arms. She burrows into his neck, still eyeing me warily.
‘Ooh ask me something!’ Lily squeals, jumping up and down. I think of what to ask her then: ‘How old are you, Lily?’
‘I’m eight,’ she says.  ‘Nine in September.’
Drake chuckles and looks at me. ‘Next question?’
6. What’s it like being a father?
We walk through the garden. Luna is carried in Drake’s arms while Lily walks beside us, curious to hear his answers. Drake smiles as he considers his answer.
‘I love it,’ he says simply. ‘These two keep me on my toes and I’ve learned so much from them. My wife says that being a dad has been the making of me, which is true, she’s right. I never imagined myself having kids and now I got two.’
7. Do you see yourself having a son?
Drake laughs as Lily wrinkles her nose in distaste.
‘Nah, I don’t,’ he says. ‘I like having girls actually. My mini Camille’s.’
8. What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Drake eyes me, looking like he has a secret. ‘I’m the best at tea parties.’
‘Tea parties!’ Lily giggles.
‘Tea parties..’ Luna mumbles, smiling into Drake’s neck. She looks up at her father and he looks down at her, kissing the tip of her nose.
9. What are the three things you can’t live without?
Camille. Lily. Luna.
10. You like the outdoors. What’s your favourite activity to do?
Drake grins. ‘I love camping with my family,’ he tells me. ‘Sleeping under the stars.’
 11. Favourite film genre?
Thriller.
12. Favourite TV show?
I like Stranger Things, Archer.. Camille’s gotten me into Queer Eye.
13. Who’s your favourite Queer Eye person?
Drake chuckles and blushes. ‘Antoni.’
Lily shakes her head. ‘Jonathan’s the best.’
Drake takes her hand as we walk along. Luna is still in his arms and wraps her hands around his neck, enjoying being close to her father.
 14. Favourite music?
We go back inside to the kitchen. Drake winks and turns on the stereo that’s standing on the counter. Living On a Prayer by Bon Jovi plays.
‘Bon Jovi, man!’ Drake says. He sets Luna down and the three of them start dancing, crazily, madly. Lily twirls around while Luna jumps and up down, squealing with excitement.
‘WOOOOOAH LIVING ON A PRAYER!’ Drake and Lily shout.
Drake laughs and turns off the music. He turns to me. ‘We like dance parties.’
15. What is a dance party in the Walker household?
‘We pick fun music and go crazy!’ Lily says, interrupting Drake before he can reply. ‘Dad dances really badly, it’s so funny.’
‘I’m offended, Lil,’ Drake says dryly.
I laugh and look around the kitchen.
16. Can you cook?
Yes I can. I love a slow cooker, best invention ever.
17. Your idea of a perfect date night?
Drake smiles and leads us back through to the living room where we see Camille lounging on the sofa with a glass of wine in her hand and a magazine on her lap. She looks up and gives me a warm smile.  ‘Hi sweetie!’
She stands up to wrap her arms around Drake. Drake presses a kiss on top of her head.
‘My perfect date night is me and her, out on the terrace, drinking whiskey and laughing,’ Drake answers with a wistful expression on his face. ‘Simple. No frills. Just us.’
18. Any advice for how to stay in a long, happy relationship?
Drake rolls his eyes. ‘Keep her happy,’ he says. Camille giggles and snuggles into him. Drake chuckles and looks at me seriously. ‘I’m a firm believer in happy wife, happy life.’
19.  What’s your biggest regret?
Drake considers the question. ‘That my dad never got to meet Camille and daughters,’ he says quietly. Camille squeezes his hand. Drake shakes himself out of his melancholy and gives me a bright smile.
 20. Last question.. What’s the one thing you wish you knew aged 20?
Drake exhales. ‘That everything is going to work out. Everything is gonna fall into place for you. Don’t sweat the small stuff, just keep going. A bright future is out there, waiting.’
With our interview done, he shakes my hand. ‘Wait, I got something to give you,’ he tells me. He reaches into the kitchen cupboard and brings out a bottle of whiskey. It looks expensive.
‘Thanks for a fun morning,’ Drake says. ‘Enjoy this one on me.’
