WRITERS NOTE: THIS POST IS A TWO PARTER AND WELL I HAD A LOT TO SAY, SO SORRY FOR THESE TWO LONG POSTS ABOUT A LOST KATAMARI MMO PART 1 Okay so…I have had this in the back of my mind for far too long. Along with not really touching this topic in the past, I’ve made exceptions like small mentions that this thing existed. “What's the topic at hand?” you might ask? It's Katamari Online. AKA, the South Korean exclusive Katamari mmo, Also known as that one Katamari lost media that everyone seems to be on the hunt for after all of these years. Okay, so where do I start with this lost media, well Maybe I should just start off with the basics ie the time frame of the MMO's popularity, how it worked, and how it died out to obscurity. I don't wanna go on and on too much about a lot of things about the MMO itself since there are some things i want to touch on and talk about as well, regarding my thoughts and feelings. If you want to learn more about this game itself, it's in the Katamari Wiki so please check it out. So basically, what I can say about this game is that it’s basically like Club Penguin or Animal Jam, but its Katamari, like an extension to the online hub on Beautiful Katamari (in simplest terms). However, if you want the long story, Katamari Damacy Online was a Korean-exclusive MMO developed by Cyberstep and published by Windysoft/JUNEiNTER. It lasted from 2007 to 2012, which for most, MMOs don’t last too long. There was a lot of stuff that made this game different than most Katamari games. Like for example: There’s a dating feature (put a pin in that—I'm gonna get to that later), you can choose any cousin/cosmic you like (but you can't make your own cosmic person), and then you have the many new and different quests/levels to choose from.
Now, you're probably thinking: “Whoa, that sounds hella neat! Was it available in other countries?" Well no.. it wasn’t... Like I said before, it was South Korea-exclusive, soo… yeah sorry everyone else. This is kind of an odd choice in my opinion, and I could be wrong (please feel free to correct me on this) but like, at the time Katamari was hella niche, even more niche than before. I could understand a Katamari game that's only exclusive in its place of origin, like for example how the Tomodachi Collection for the Nintendo DS was Japanese-exclusive. That’s not odd. However, something like Katamari Damacy Online being exclusive to just South Korea and only South Korea is an odd choice because again, Korea isn't its place of origin. Then again, maybe at that time there were more Katamari fans in Korea than in Japan, so that could be the case.

Strikers 1945 II is barely different from the original. It's pretty much the same game with different enemies. It's not any better or worse, it's just slightly different, that's it. That's the whole story. The game is a legitimate sequel as far as the story is concerned but the "evil organization tries to take over the world" gimmick is still what they're going with.
THE GOOD -There was some sort of narrative in the first game and this is the continuation of that. While that is pretty standard for games, alot of games of this type in this genre don't have a plot at all so i'm still giving credit for the attempt.
THE BAD -There are so few differences between Strikers 1945 & Strikers 1945 II that I don't really see the justification for a sequel.
I give this game an 8.0 out of 10 BY THE NUMBERS

‘Rusty Hearts Heroes' release date: Spin-off to 'Rusty Hearts' soft out in the U.S.
Buy Rusty Hearts Gold Rusty Hearts Heroes initially popped up on the Google Play store not too long ago but was quickly taken down for whatever reason more than likely bug fixing. Then it 'officially' launched back in January of this year. Now the game has once again been taken down and it looks like it may be a permanent one this time. When the game launched for the second time it was running smoothly. Sure technically the game lacked a little of what Rusty Hearts fans were hoping to see in terms of gameplay as the entire mobile game was more automated than most. Your character would attack automatically and all that players had to deal with was moving and using special abilities when doing your dungeon crawling. Shortly after the game's second launch there were some server issues that would pop up from time to time mainly with lag and login issues. Whether this second launch was more to gauge interest and player retention or not we don't know right now. What we do know is that it wasn't really up long enough to get a good measurement of either of those two points. Whatever the case may be Rusty Hearts Heroes has been removed from Google Play and the reason why it looks permanently is because the publishers have refunded everyone's money that was spent on IAPs. That move isn't usually done on a temporary removal. We've contacted the developers/publishers to find out what is going on with Rusty Hearts Heroes and we will post an update when we hear back. The RPG game "Rusty Hearts Heroes" is getting a limited and soft launch for the Android and iOS versions in the United States. A video posted by a YouTube gamer named Rendermax last Nov. 28 2015 gave "Rusty Hearts" fans a look into the upcoming "Rusty Hearts Heroes" gameplay. The user notes that the game is nothing like the more well-known PC version yet still has the same set of heroes as the original version. "Rusty Hearts" is a free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online RPG video game created by Stairway Games and published by three different companies in various regions- Windysoft in Korea Perfect World Entertainment in North America and Sega in Japan. The game features nine different players with different fighting styles and are customisable via in-game purchases. According to Android Community it's very rare that mobile games get a soft launch in the United States as developers usually test their games in smaller areas such as New Zealand or the Netherlands. Regardless the spin-off game for mobile will be soft launched in the U.S. and this is the second release that the game will be undergoing. The first release did not include the U.S. area in the supported regions. Droid Gamers sees this as a sign of a possible global release of "Rusty Hearts Heroes" in the near future. "Rusty Hearts Heroes" has been considered by experts as more of a spin-off than a sequel considering the gameplay of the game is completely different from older versions. The gameplay introduces a more brawler-type experience to the battles and includes some new combination attacks and special moves to the same set of characters. The game was updated last Jan. 14 2016 and requires a firmware of Android 4.1 or higher for Google-based smartphones. The file size clocks up about 32 megabytes and the game has received a rating on Google Play Store of 3.7 out of 5 stars.

There is a bit of discrepancy though because the first game is supposed to have taken place directly following the close of World War II which would have been almost the fall of 1945 moving into the new year, and if the second game takes place after that, that's means a World War would have ended and then the Strikers fought 2 other major wars before the end of the year which is an insane time line. Either way i'm glad they continued with the story because story elements aren't very easy to insert into a game like this so I still commend them for making the effort.
So now in 1999, alien nanites have taken control of most of the world's weaponry and again it's up to the Strikers (A team that consists of the world's best fighter pilots) and now the F.G.R. (The evil organization from the first two games) to join forces and save the world once more. You can choose between six different pilots and six different machines all with their own unique abilities that are somewhat similar to those you've already piloted in the previous games, and of course they keep "upping the ante" on the enemy machines and boss fights. This time they've deviated from that World War II aesthetic entirely and went for a more modern warfare "humans vs. aliens" vibe. There are points in the game where you actually go into outer space which is not what modern fighter jets are for but I think it's fine that they take creative liberties with this story and this atmosphere they're building and just do what they want.
This installment in the Strikers series is getting closer to the "insane amounts of moving objects on screen/bullet hell" style that we are used to in the shoot'em up genre BUT it's still easy enough for even a casual gamer to get some enjoyment out of it. The addition of the the technical bonuses is something I think really added to the gameplay because in a lot of these games, beyond how many machines you take down and just defeating the bosses until you reach the end, there doesn't seem to be much of an objective or a goal. Now the game judges you on how you take down the boss and striving to get that bonus just strengthens the sense of accomplishment as you complete each level. They've also added medals you can collect for extra points but that really just adds to your score, trying to actually collect them during gameplay makes the game a little harder because you're trying to get your bonus points without getting hit but i'm not sure it does anything for your enjoyment unless you are just focused on that final score.
My one major gripe about this game is that when you've beaten the game, it loops and then you play through the same levels again at a higher difficulty setting, which I put on the same level of fighting game bosses that are pretty generic in design and their moveset is just a bunch of moves that other characters in the game have like Seth from Street Fighter IV or Charade from Soul Calibur II. It's just a cop out. If you have no more game for me to play than the experience is over.
All-in-All, vertical-scrolling shooters are in Psikyo's wheelhouse, they have made quite a bit of them and they do them justice. Alot of game developers cannot pull these off because they are very hard to not only make interesting but make challenging without overdoing it.
THE GOOD -Although the story is pretty generic, I'm glad that they continued pushing it across several games and that there are noticeable differences in the type of things you see in game in context to the events that transpired between installments.
-Technical Bonuses are a nice addition to the game because it gives you something more to try to accomplish between levels.  Alot of vertical scrolling shooters are particular about how you take down certain enemies but how that's worked into the gameplay varies between titles. In some of them if you aren't hitting the spots you need to be hitting, you won't destroy the boss and you either get a deduction or you have to do the level over.
THE BAD -Looping the levels is a cop out. Once I finish a game, unless it's a really interesting or fun game like Bioshock or something like that, i'm not playing this game again on a stronger difficulty setting. These types of games are hard enough as it is by nature of what they are, it's not more fun for the game to be much harder.
I give Strikers 1945 III a 8.9 out of 10 ONE OF THE BEST IN THE GENRE
