Any recommendations for catchy songs about specific American historical events? Hurricane by The Band of Heathens (unless I'm mistaken, it's pretty explicitlu about Katrina) and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald are examples.

HARRY HOLMES-"Dottor Tortura"

Ciao a tutti e buon sabato! Ricordo che il fine dei miei post è quello di ricordare le vittime di questi casi. Se siete sensibili non passate dal mio blog. Per chi è rimasto ed è curios* di conoscere questi casi benvenut*

Oggi parliamo di un serial killer americano, con più di 50 casi legali nella sola Chicago: Herman Webster Mudgett, conosciuto meglio come Dr Henry Howard Holmes o H.H.Holmes. Io più per comodità lo chiamerò Harry Holmes.

Harry Holmes nasce a Gilmanton, nel New Hampshire il 16 maggio 1861 da Levi Horton Mudgett e Theodate Page Prince, entrambi discendenti dai primi immigrati inglesi della zona. Il padre proveniva da una famiglia di contadini, e a volte lavorava come contadino, pittore e imbianchino. Entrambi i suoi genitori facevano parte del movimento dei metodisti ( è un gruppo di denominazioni storicamente correlate del  cristianesimo protestante le cui origini, dottrine e pratiche derivano dalla vita e dagli insegnamenti di John Wesley. George Whitefield  e il fratello di John, Charles Wesley, furono anche i primi leader del movimento. Sono stati chiamati metodisti per "il modo metodico in cui hanno svolto la loro fede cristiana". Il metodismo ebbe origine come movimento di risveglio all'interno della chiesa d'Inghilterra del 18 ° secolo e divenne una denominazione separata dopo la morte di Wesley. Il movimento si diffuse in tutto l'impero britannico, negli Stati Uniti e  oggi rivendica circa 80 milioni di aderenti in tutto il mondo.  si concentra sulla santificazione e sull'effetto trasformante della fede sul carattere di un cristiano. ) Si dice che suo padre fosse un tipo molto violento e i suoi compagni lo bullizzavano per i suoi voti.

All'età di 16 anni si diplomò alla Phillips Exeter Academy e prese lavoro come insegnante a Gilmanton e poi successivamente ad Alton. Si legge nella sua descrizione che era molto intelligente e anche capace di influenzare facilmente le persone. Fin da piccolo ha l'ambizione di diventare medico, tanto che faceva esperimenti sugli animali, affascinato com'era dall'anatomia. Si sa che durante un interrogatorio i suoi compagni lo costrinsero a toccare il cranio di uno scheletro, e che quell'evento traumatico cambiò per sempre la sua personalità. Nel 1978 sposa una certa Clara Lovering, alla giovane età di 18 anni, con cui ha un figlio di nome Robert. Sempre quando aveva 18 anni si iscrisse all'Università del Vermont a Burlington ma, insoddisfatto, la lasciò un anno dopo. Nel 1882 entrò nel dipartimento di medicina e chirurgia del Michigan sotto il professor William James Herdman, allora capo istruttore di anatomia, girava voce che lui e Holmes fossero impegnati nel furto di cadaveri. Si divertiva a sfigurarne i volti e a prendere le loro assicurazioni sulla vita spacciandoli per suoi parenti. Si trasferì a Englewood, vicino a Chicago, senza la moglie e lì cambiò nome in Henry Howard Holmes.

E' proprio in questo periodo che Holmes commette uno dei suoi primi omicidi: leggendo degli annunci notò quello di una signora, la quale si rivela essere Elizabeth Holton, che cercava un aiutante nella sua farmacia visto che il marito era gravemente malato e gli voleva star vicino. Harry colse la palla al balzo rispondendo immediatamente all'annuncio e presentandosi come il Dr Holmes. Poco dopo avvelenò il marito della donna, la quale gli diede in gestione la farmacia. Successivamente, con i soldi frutto di frodi e quelli fatti in farmacia, si fece costruire nella stessa strada un enorme edificio a tre piani che gli sarebbe servita come casa, negozio, farmacia e hotel. Quest'edificio risultò così grande da essere chiamato "castello".

Il secondo e il terzo piano di questo edificio erano una trappola mortale per chiunque ci si addentrava: erano delle specie di labirinti che avevano passaggi segreti, muri scorrevoli, spioncini, porte blindate, stanze segrete, camere insonorizzate, scale e corridoi che finivano dove c’era il muro e botole sul pavimento che si aprivano a comando e che facevano scivolare le vittime in cantina; lì si trovava la stanza delle torture. Tutte le stanze erano in realtà vere e proprie camere a gas fatte apposta per uccidere l’occupante e le porte potevano essere bloccate dall’esterno, in caso si volesse intrappolare dentro qualcuno; i muri erano foderati con l’amianto che impediva il propagarsi della combustione. Nella cantina c’era un’enorme piscina riempita di acido corrosivo. Infine, in una stanza segreta si trovava un forno crematorio.

Si sa che durante la costruzione di questo grande edificio, Holmes fece cambiare più volte gli operai per non far capire loro a cosa serviva davvero quella "casa", ovvero da tomba per le povere vittime che ovviamente non avevano il minimo sospetto. Dal 1892 al 1894 il suo modus operandi era sempre lo stesso: accoglieva persone di tutte le età, garzoni, complici stessi di Holmes, fidanzate, conoscenti e visitatori. Affittava loro una stanza, e a loro insaputa li rinchiudeva dentro godendosi il macabro spettacolo di sentirli urlare, poi li faceva morire asfissiati o carbonizzati. Poi il loro cadavere veniva recuperato. A volte li riduceva a scheletri per venderli alle università a prezzi ragionevoli, altre volte li scioglieva nella piscina di acido oppure li utilizzava come sue cavie.

Nel 1890 fece pubblicare un annuncio, alla ricerca di un manager che lo aiutasse a gestire il suo impero economico, a questo rispose un certo Ned Conner sposato con Julia Smyte e prole. Julia era davvero molto bella e Holmes ne rimase molto affascinato, tanto che licenziò un suo dipendente per dare a lei un incarico. La famiglia Conner pensò davvero di essere molto fortunata. In seguito Julia invitò anche sua sorella Gertie diciottenne di cui Holmes perse la testa tanto da proporgli il matrimonio con la promessa di divorziare dall’altra moglie. Gertie disse tutto a Ned, il quale la rimandò a casa, senza sapere che le stesse attenzioni che la giovane riceveva, si sarebbero subito focalizzato su Julia, la quale accettò le avance di buon grado e i due divennero subito amanti. Ned digerì questa infedeltà, fino a quando deriso dagli amici affrontò seriamente la moglie che dovette ammettere quello che segretamente pensava di lui, facendo confronti sulla bellezza, eleganza e intelligenza di Holmes, insomma un uomo di successo, quale lui non era. Ned lasciò Julia abbandonando il Castello e chiedendo il divorzio. Julia, a quel punto, si legò molto a Holmes. Presto lei rimase incinta, ma questo non era affatto una cosa positiva per Holmes, il quale le propose l'aborto in cambio del loro matrimonio, lei accettò per amore e fidandosi che l’amante fosse un vero dottore, si fece operare.

La natura perversa di Holmes non conosceva confine, così come Julia molte altre donne furono prima amate e poi uccise e vendute come scheletri. Intorno al 1894 Holmes, accerchiato dai creditori, in un momento di difficoltà economica, abbandonò il castello per rifugiarsi altrove. Diverse settimane dopo un altro suo complice, Pat Quinlan gli bruciò l’edificio, furioso per aver perso l’amante, sua sorella e la sua figlia illegittima, poiché Holmes le aveva gasate e scarnificate. Dopo aver lasciato Chicago, Holmes provò a intascare i soldi dell’assicurazione spacciando l’incendio per un incidente, ma un investigatore mandò a monte il piano scoprendo che l’incendio era doloso.

Holmes non venne accusato di nulla, ma continuò a truffare e, tra una truffa e l’altra, uccidere. Alla sua ennesima truffa, fu condotto in carcere. Qui conobbe una certa Marion Hedgepeth, che divenne la sua nuova complice. Insieme, una volta liberati, architettarono un omicidio ai danni di un conoscente di Holmes, Benjamin Pitezel il suo ex assistente, su cui aveva fatto stipulare, tempo prima un’assicurazione sulla vita per 10.000 dollari, convincendolo che avrebbe presentato il cadavere di un altro, promettendo la fine dei problemi per la sua famiglia. Marion accettò in cambio di una percentuale, ma dopo l’omicidio di Pitezel, Holmes, come sempre, intascò il denaro sparendo di nuovo. Questa mossa sarà decisiva per la sua fine, poiché Marion furiosa per vendicarsi raccontò tutto all’assicurazione che fece scattare un mandato di arresto.

Il Dr Holmes, provò ad imbarcarsi per l'Europa, ma non ci riuscì, venendo arrestato a Boston nel novembre del 1894. Solo ispezionando il suo castello degli orrori, anche se in parte distrutto dalle fiamme, la polizia trovò molti scheletri interi e tante ossa semicarbonizzate. Holmes di fronte alle evidenze negava la sua perversa opera. I cittadini di Chicago scoprirono, dopo le ispezioni, che a due passi da loro esisteva il castello degli orrori dove la polizia di Chicago ipotizzò almeno 150 vittime. Holmes, o il “Dottore tortura” così ribattezzato, confessò dettagliatamente i suoi crimini e ne scrisse una monografia, che attestava ben 133 persone uccise.

Herman Webster Mudgett, venne processato nell’autunno del 1895 e condannato a morte tramite impiccagione. Per sadica ironia, la sua monografia, continuava a fargli incassare soldi anche se in prigione, venduta alla William Randolph Hearst Corporation per 10.000 dollari. Chiese come testamento di far riempire la sua bara di cemento, per paura che il suo corpo fosse trafugato, promessa che fu mantenuta dai suoi avvocati.

Il giorno dell’esecuzione di Holmes fu il 7 maggio 1896, all’età di soli 36 anni morì impiccato, mentre la botola si apriva sotto i suoi piedi, in una lenta e inesorabile agonia che durò quindici minuti, il cappio al collo infatti non era stato preparato a regola d’arte. Di lui rimase il “Castello degli Orrori” che per un breve periodo divenne un’attrazione, fino a quando un misterioso incendio lo distrusse definitivamente. Il “dottore tortura” rimarrà nella storia oltre il primo “serial killer” americano, quello più depravato e folle, le sue vittime, alcune diventate anche amanti, rappresentavano esclusivamente uno strumento per ottenere un guadagno…oltre alla perversione inaudita, il suo disegno macabro sarebbe continuato in mille opportunità di un business terrificante. Oggi la sua tomba, riempita di cemento e senza lapide si trova all'Holy Cross Cemetery.

Thank You anon for requesting this list I had fun listing them and I’m glad you asked for it and I am glad I can help you. This list is in no particular order just the ones that came to my head as I went and the ones I had in my gif hunt tag, some of these may be the rpc definition of dark skin which is anyone darker than Michael B. Jordan but I had to put them on this list because the rpc really need to know people darker than Michael B. Allegra Garcia: Allegra Garcia is a character I do like but she didn’t do anything. She shouldn’t have been in the main cast last season. And her episode/storyline didn’t save her character. How about you to save her cousin for season 8.

Alexa, Bashir, and Deon: Alexa Rivera, Bashir Malik, and Deon Owens are very interesting but their storyline really ruined their characters. How about make them main characters so they could get more scenes with Barry and more character development if they want this whole family dynamic to work.

Mirror Mistress being a part of main cast is a joke. She not really needed as main character.

Teddy Spears/The Forever force: Yeah the guy that plays Zoom aka Hunter Zolomon. It correspond to him being the force in comic. But actor used as a disguise for forever like speedforce with Nora.

Wally West: Obviously because he didn’t appear in the Godspeed civil war.
