Tessa Booker - or Tess, as she prefers, was born a few months before the Collapse and left outside a fire station as a baby. After moving from foster home to foster home, she ends up in Fall's End when the nukes drop. As soon as it's safe to leave their bunkers, Tess leaves in the middle of the night to travel. Instead, she's picked up by Highwaymen.

She thought she died. She might as well have, but Joey Hudson survived anyway. She survived Eden's Gate and she survived the Collapse, waking up in a broken down car with her boss's body flung through the front window, and her colleague's head filled with glass next to her. The driver was missing and presumed dead, and she can only assume her girlfriend, Evelyn McDaniel, died too. Having nothing left in Hope County, she leaves. Circumstances called 'The Highwaymen' bring her back when a group of survivors reach out to her boss, asking for help against the people terrorizing them.
