NPC: Marble
Status: Alive (Deva to Morgian)
Relationship: Neutral
Konguq and Vodren met Marble in Solace looking for identification on a potion. The learned that back then she used to be a follower of Sirron
While her fate was unknown, during the Test of High Sorcery Ryai managed to save her during his scenario of the Burning of Solace.
Her fate became known however when the party started clearing the den of Morgian in Vikaze. Vodren met her again in the nursery crafting potions. She tells him that when trying to escape she fell on her crate of potions and suffered severe lacerations. She hid in a tree with Seeker Rohrta when Morgian came to them offering salvation. She turned away from Sirron and became much more than a cleric, but a Deva to him. She however held no ill will to the party and offered to help them leave the den with no trouble from the giant that guarded it.

NPC: Seeker Rowanna/Rhorta
Status: Dead (Killed herself via death curse)
Relationship: Enemy
Konguq, Ryai, and Ace first met Seeker Rowanna on a mission to clear Goblins from a temple of Mishakal. She helped the party neutralize the stone golem that was set to attack the party after killing the gully dwarf that lived there. She traveled with the group back to Solace to report her findings to High Seeker Henderick. The party lost contact after that.
Vorlo confesses in Crossing that Rowanna was poking around where him and his sister lived he drugged her so bad he wiped her memories.
The party meets her again unknowingly as Seeker Rohrta in a small fishing village called Vikaze. She leads the party to a death trap to be killed by followers of Morgian. There they learn she herself became a cleric after the Burning of Solace. Her first memory being burning from dragon fire. It was then that Morgian came to her offering salvation. She began work in Vikaze trying to convert the Fisher folk there to his influence as well. The Dandies confront her and are shocked to learn of her fate, but spare no mercy for the crimes she committed as Rhorta. Realizing that no matter what she did, she was going to die she killed herself via the blight spell and brought the whole village down with her.

Konguq-Human Wizard Captain
Ace-Human Rouge Quartermaster
Vodren-Human Cleric Healer and Navigation
Bron-Dwarf Fighter and Battle Master
Ryai-Elf Spellblade Night Watch
Vorlo-Hobgoblin Apothecary and Helmsman
The Dandies prepare to fight the plauge spirit that erupted from Broud. Ace takes a swing at it and quickly moves behind the stuffed bear that sits in front of the door. Vodren quickly moves Broud away from the spirit and back into the hallway. Konguq commands Zim to attack the spirit and in doing so, absorbs some of it's power. She drags Ryai back to avoid the poisonous gas it's about to erupt. Bron pushes the bear on top of the Gorilla and Ryai sets it on fire. With the gorilla pinned Ace slips back into the room and stabs it again. It melts under the bear, defeated. Vodren notices Zim look at his hands
With Broud saved and most of the threats neutralizes, the party goes and explores the house more. Vodren goes to talk the Alchemist, Ryai and Bron go to collect any sentimental objects for the kids, and Konguq and Ace go to get Broud's bag.
Ryai before going to collect the quilt checks on the room that couldn't be opened due to the dirt blocking the door. He decides to circle back to see if he can get Zim's assistance.
Ace and Konguq attempt to distract the flies to get Broud's bag. Ace manages to sneak beneath and hide but unfortunately Konguq becomes their target. Ryai arrives to ask for Zim but sees the predicament they're in. Ryai casts Darkness and distracts the flies with his blade allowing the two to bring the bag in safe and sound. Ryai requests Zim and the two follow him to uncover the room. As Zim and a mage hand begin to dig Ryai goes to grab and clean the quilt.
Ace and Konguq discuss the matter of Ace becoming a cleric due to his previous interactions with Mishakal praying to save Konguq and the incident with the Demon. The Gnoll's Dire Hyena sniffs at Ace, and as Ryai returns he notices that it calls him "Father"
Vodren finds the Alchemist in the nursery again, holding a vial. She requests that he leaves his holy symbol behind and he complies. Once inside he recognizes her as Marble, the alchemist from Solace. From her he learns how she survived Solace
While trying to escape the blaze Marble tripped and fell on the case of potions she was carrying, resulting in the severe lacerations on her body. She managed to hide with a seeker who severely burned her face and had no memories of her past. There as they hid did Morgian come and offered them both salvation. Seeker Rohrta and Marble have been working together ever since. Vodren remembers that she used to worship Sirron back in Solace. But she turned away from him now that she's become a Deva to Morgian. She however bears no ill will to the party and decides to move on with the cultists gone. She promises to talk to the giant outside for the party so he is no longer a threat.
Vodren reconvenes with Bron who found the family founder's skull and a metal prod with a rune at the end. Zim and the Mage hand finish and the Gnolls and party get into the room. It looks pretty empty and is caved in but Ryai finds a hidden door. They enter and find a Golden Hammer and a treasure chest. Ryai and Bron examine the Golden Hammer and Ryai notices that the hooks are moveable and that the ceiling is lower than it should be. As Ace and the Gnolls examine the chest another Ooze leaps out at them. The Ooze attacks the Gnoll and they barely manage to stuff in back inside the chest. Bron not wanting to leave the Hammer behind, has Ace use his grappling hook to remove the hammer off the hooks, causing the ceiling to collapse around the treasure chest. The Gnolls grab it anyway, wanting to sell it later.
Not long after the giant returns, after a few moments however the giant leaves. The group grabs Broud and the skeletal remains of the dwarves from the hidden room. When Broud awakens he's perfectly healthy, if not miffed with the Gnolls. Vodren and Bron then lay the dwarves to rest in the family graveyard and the party returns back to Lorian's camp.
There they reunite with the kids who are happy to see their saviors return. Ryai presents them with the quilt and they nearly knock him over with a hug. Bron also gives them the prod and skull. The children tell the party that they managed to find some family on the scroll they kept that would take them in and Lorian said he would take them there after this.
Broud also states that he is happy to join the group on the ship despite going the opposite way of his original target. But he figures that they will probably end up going that way at some point. Ryai is estatic to have a fellow scholar on board.
The party settles in for the night, and Vodren warns the group about Zim and the possibility of him becoming sentient. Ryai wants to put Zim down with worries of what it could turn into but Konguq wants to keep Zim and study the effects further. Konguq recalls legends of this happening before but none can fully agree on how soon. The two wizards study, Konguq watching Zim as he patrols while Ryai consults Broud's books, with Broud's help. Konguq can't gleam much more than she already knew, but Ryai manages to back up a few claims and figures that as long as Konguq has Zim under her control it will be fine.
When Vodren wakes up the next morning he sees Zim standing over a blue faced Broud and slowly turns to Konguq. Vodren in a knee jerk reaction blasts half of Zim's face and runs over to Broud, waking the group. He sees that Broud is being choked by his holy Symbol which was turned into a skeleton hand. Ryai and Vodren manages to tear the thing off of him before it can do any further damage. With the full picture now, Vodren realizes that Zim was going to warn Konguq and that the holy symbol was set up by Seeker Rhorta. Vodren apologizes for the mix up as the group now gets ready to deal with the Seeker.
Ace leaves his Mishakal pendant behind to make sure that Mishakal watches over the two children. Broud being nearly choked to death stays behind to rest. The group then heads off to Vikaze.
Ace pulls away to case the village, seeing Seeker Rohrta preforming her morning sermons and sees as two previously sick villagers are brought back to health. He also sees there are still sick people in some of the houses. He circles back and tells the group. Ryai and Vodren decide to go in first to make an appearance and heal the sick animals to show true healing. The two approach the Shepard who is slightly wary, but Ryai phrases thier good deed as a way of thank Seeker Rohrta for her help finding thier friend. The Shepard buys it and the three go to work making the ritual circle. As Vodren preforms it, the light of the circle turns a sickly yellow as all the animals collapse dead. the Shepard gives them an evil smile when Vodren notices his sabotage.
Tumblr media
The Shepard blows his horn and Ryai grabs Vodren trying to flee. He notices that Vodren struggles to keep up from his exhaustion and sets the field ablaze to slow their pursuers. As the Shepard shouts he falls dead, struck by Vorlo's slingshot. Konguq reaches out to Ryai via message and asks if he can lure the villagers back to the barn. Ryai tells Vodren to find the others as he runs back through the town trying to lure everyone back.
He is unfortunately surrounded by some townsfolk and is confronted by Seeker Rhorta. She calls for Vodren to show himself to the crowd. Before Vodren does however, Ace steps forward. He flashes a crude signat ring with a fox jumping through an infinity circle claiming to be a cleric of Mishakal. Vodren sneaks around from behind. Seeker Rohrta challenges him on his claim however, now drawing the crowds attention. She has the Shepard's body dragged out to be revived. While the crowd watches, Konguq sneaks into the barn. She discovers that while all the food in there looks fresh, it's covered in flies. She begins loading up on a floating disk.
Ace stares at the corpse of the dead Shepard and tries to beg to Mishakal for her to come to him. Ryai, however, recognizes that his begs sound more like demands and knows that what Ace is trying to do is nearly impossible. He manages to swipe a stave from one of the villagers, extend it and disguise Animate Dead as Revifiy. The Corpse rises, and Ace realizes it wasn't him that did it. He locks eyes with Ryai as Mishakal gently chides Ace for his tone.
Tumblr media
Vodren makes himself known after, congratulating Ace for his job well done.(despite knowing that something wasn't right with the spell) The crowd is in an uproar over the events and Vodren begins to tell them that what Seeker Rohrta is doing isn't healing. The group then explains to the people what they found at the dwarf house in the woods. Vodren then tells them that the food they're eating is tainted and Konguq steps out with the floating disk of food from the Barn. Vodren casts Dispell Magic and it all quickly rots away before the Villagers eyes. Seeker Rohrta knowing the jig is up, brushes off her previous disguise and reveals herself to be a cleric of Morgian. She removes her mask before the crowd and while Vodren doesn't recognize her, Vorlo goes pale. Beneath the mask was the burnt face of Seeker Rowanna. One of the first people the group met at Stone Hill House. While the party tries to jog her memory it is ultimately futile with her first memory being woken up in dragon fire.
She then shows her power to the group, telling them that without her, all the villagers would die in an hour. The villagers double over in pain as the sickness spreads. She asks how many they could save in an hour. Ace fully fed up of her bullshit goes to beat her unconscious with his cane. She looks shocked as the man steps forward and a loud buzzing sound could be heard from the Barn.
The Fate of Vikaze
Bron and Ace move in close to Seeker Rohrta to make her submit. Konguq runs to the barn to see if she can start a blaze to dispose of the flies. She notices they are moving violently and in unison. While she starts, Ryai has Marovie chuck a bottle of lantern oil against the side of the barn and start the blaze from there. Ryai commands that the Shepard protect Ace and goes to try and help people move away from the Barn. Vodren summons his dire wolves to flank Seeker Rohrta. Seeker Rohrta then summons a large poisonous cloud to choke out the party while she is knocked to the ground. Konguq returns with a wind wall to stop it from moving forward towards the villagers. The party has Seeker Rohrta thoroughly surrounded as they try to break her concentration on the spell. The Shepard lands a devastating hit on the cleric and she willingly ends the spell. Knowing her fate was sealed irregardless of what she did, she makes a final prayer to Morgian showing what she was willing to sacrifice. Konguq recognizes this as a death curse.
Seeker Rohrta dissolves into nothing, turning into a husk of a human before the group as the villagers condition worsen considerably. Vodren rushes over and prays to Habakkuk offering all he has to try and save the village. Habakkuk offers an ultimatum, he could save the village in return for Vodren losing his ability to make miracles. He understands whats at and Habakkuk doesn't intervene. Bron begins mercy killing the villagers so they don't suffer. Others join in but Ryai freezes, deciding to go get Broud and put the Shepard down instead. Ace insists someone goes with him and Vodren volunteers. While the two go to get Broud, the rest try to gather the dead and grab firewood for a funeral pyre. The group takes time to reflect on the event that occurred.
Seeker Rohrta despised them so much, she was willing die to make sure they failed.
When Ryai and Vodren return with Broud he tells them to start tearing the houses down for the funeral pyre. Not long after they notice the sails of the the Dandy Rose. The crew joins in on the funeral efforts as Broud preforms his own ceremony for the dead. The flames go from blue to green as he declares that the souls of the dead are freed from Morgian's grasp and will go to wherever they were meant to head before Seeker Rohrta's influence.
Tired and crestfallen the party returns to ship and plans thier next course. They decide to stop by Wayreth to study Zim more and avoid Qualinost as much as possible. Ace mentions the rumor he heard from Larion about the elves looking for holy men. Ryai and Vodren look at each other, and Ryai fears that his trial has more truth to it than he originally thought...

The party leaves Vikaze, still wary of the seeker they met. Vodren manages to track Broud through the woods and find evidence of him running and then later ambushed. The tracks around Broud's are Gnolls, along with a dire hyena. Unfortunately with the level of exhaustion the party has, they are unable to travel faster than a crawl to follow the tracks.
Ryai sends Marovie to scout ahead. The owl returns and informs Ryai of a figure in a brown robe standing in a clearing. With the party already being on high alert Ryai, Konguq, and Vodren spilt off to try and surround the figure and send Ace and Bron to try and see if negotiations are possible. Vorlo still not feeling well, pulls away to try and take care of himself. When Ace approachs the figure a large fly erupts from the hood and in a celestial language shouts "more sacrifices"
Negotiation was never an option.
Before the fly can attack Vodren manages to fizzle it out with a shot of light. The body that it came from shambled towards Ace, and the rouge manages to shoot it down quickly with a crossbow bolt. As the body goes down an burst of maggots explodes from the body, attaching to Bron, Konguq, and Ace. The party struggles with the swarm, with Bron taking the major brunt of the attack from them. With the sustained damage, the party takes a quick rest to recover before heading back.
Marovie scouts again and finds a large mound that a home looks like it was built into. He also spots the giant up ahead keeping watch. Ace splits off to investigate and case the exterior. He finds more of the large fly creatures around the back with Broud's things. He also notices the back door and a front door, along with the meditating giant.
He returns with the information and tells the group. The group discusses thier options. Vodren worried that Broud might already be dead and Ryai reminding him that even if he is, they can't leave his body there. Vodren decides to lure the giant away by summoning his own dire hyenas. The giant is confused by the creatures, but follows them back into the woods.
The party decides to enter through the front door. Before heading in, Vorlo offers the party lavender oil to rub on their skin to repel future bugs.
Carved into the stone of the door, Bron reads that there is a trap just beyond it. However a proverb below the initial writing indicates to use the door as a shield. Ace carefully opens the door while the rest of the party hides behind Bron's shield. A large metal fist shoots out the door, with gore already on the other end.
The party slips into the first room of the place and realize that this used to be someone's home. When they try to approach the door, an image of a snake strikes out at them. Ace swipes at it with his cane and quickly learns it's and illusion. Moving the illusion away, Ace cracks open the door, and alerts the two other cultist on the other side of the party's presence. With the two alerted, the group decides to attack and Bron pins the one cultist against the wall, being attacked by a mob of flies. Vorlo chucks a clay pot of the lavender oil into the swarm poisoning them. Ace, seeing the opportunity, ducks to the ground and shoots the pinned cultist in an artery, killing him.
With the one down, Bron chases after the other cultist. Ryai tries to slip past the swarm but becomes severely damaged, and feeling something happen to him. He gives chase after Bron and tries to shoot the cultist, but misses. Konguq follows suit and tries to contact Broud. She gets no response.
Vorlo in an attempt to get rid of the swarm, falls backwards onto the door reactivating the trap. While it misses the swarm, the flies escape outside the home. Bron pins the last cultist to the door, killing him and telling the party to stay quiet.
With the chance to regroup, Ryai recognizes the quilt on the wall as a family heirloom with portraits of the dwarven family that lived there on it. Despite wanting to investigate further, he is more concerned with what the flies did to him. Vodren takes a look and finds a large welt on his left shoulder. Bron mentions that he has a similar one on his elbow. Using Vorlo's healers kit, Vodren manages to extract two maggots from the welts.
Ace investigates the quilt further and finds that a map of the home is sewn into it and jots it down. The party discussess thier next move. With Ryai and Bron being spent, the majority of the party looks for a quick rest. Ace offers to scout ahead and Vorlo offers to go with him, disguised as the cultists.
While they scout, Konguq puts a pebble in the next room to keep an eye on things. Ace and Vorlo begin thier investigation with Agratok with them. The first room they are greeted by sleeping Gnolls and a Dire hyena. They try to investigate the adjacent room but find it blocked by dirt. As they proceed they see the living room being ravaged by a bear. It looks up to them but continues it's scavenging. They go to check the master bedroom and discover that's where the altar is, with other cultists practicing their ritual. They luckily do not draw thier attention and head to the mudroom where they meet a larger Gnoll named Thrash watching the back door.
Thrash asks them why they aren't at their posts. Ace explains that he heard that thier mutts were causing a ruckus and needed to investigate. Thrash takes offense and threatens to tell the others. Ace threatens him and Thrash lashes out. His attack however bounces off and he lets the two continue their exploring.
Back at the main entrance, Konguq sees that another Gnoll enters the room. He barks orders and the others wake up and sit at attention. While they moved, Konguq sees a phrase written in dwarven. She writes it out and Bron tells her it says that there is a treasure in a room across from the nursery. She manages to tell Agratok about the nursery before the connection is cut.
Agratok tries to pull Ace towards the nursery. Despite Ace's protests, Ace checks the nursery room and finds a skinny dwarven woman with blue and green hair in the corner, working on some alchemy. She tells Ace that even if she's not in prayer, she's still doing grandfather's work. They decide to leave her alone. Ace goes to investigate the kitchen area while Vorlo goes on watch.
Ace tries to peer into the kitchen, and finds what looks to be an animal person standing near a pot. When he returns to Vorlo, he points out a hidden door across from the nursery. When they investigate, they find two young dwarven children hidden inside. The two quickly slip into the room and try to comfort the children. They tell the two that they're going to get them out of there, and the oldest girl grabs a few things, claiming that they are their family.
The connection returns to Konguq with Agratok and he tells her about the children. Prepping for the worst Ryai and Konguq grab the two corpses of the dead cultists and begin thier work. Konguq animates one from the dead, and Ryai goes to work making a circle.
The duo slip back to the mudroom with the children hidden under their cloaks. Thrash questions them and tells them that he's told the other Gnolls to go in the look out. The two men then slip out the backdoor and are accosted by flies, trying to return back to the front. The two manage to distract the creatures looking for an offering by chucking the dirty daggers they took from the cultists.
When they get back, they find Konguq with her new zombie Zim, and Ryai partially through a summoning ritual. They quickly decide that Vorlo returns to Larian's camp with the kids to get them to safety, leaving the party. Ace then recounts what he saw to the group and then they decide what to do next. Ryai during, decides they are still going to need help and finishes his ritual, summoning Skoragnit. The demoness appears and Ryai requests her assistance in healing, asking that she repair her work. She is soothing and friendly, but quickly drops to all fours and begins to sniff around the circle. She recognizes the scent of Proseus. She requests that Ryai release her from the circle and he obliges. She explains to the party that Proseus cheated her out of a deal and gave her rotten flesh and noticed that the home is tainted by him. For healing, she asks that she joins the party to hunt and punish the demon that cheated her.
The group mostly obliges, but Vodren isn't comfortable with a demon around. He mentions his disappointment in Ryai for summoning her, but Ryai asks if Paladine would have given Ryai the body Skoragnit did. Both of them knowing the answer being no.
Skoragnit heals Ryai, and offers to assist the others, but Bron refuses. Skoragnit however compliments Vodren on his work removing the worm from Ryai's back.
While healing the party tries to figure out their next step. They decide that they are going have Ace try and pass as one of the members to try and take over the cult to get the Gnolls on their side. With a little help from Vodren and Skoragnit they manage to convince the Gnolls of the idea and propose a deal. That the Gnolls will take out the cultists if the party deals with the witch. They agree.
The group goes to the nursery assuming the dwarven woman inside was the witch. As the group prepares, a rat explodes beneath them, accidentally bringing the goblin witch right to the party. A fight breaks out while the witch manages to flee back to the kitchen. She talks with Proseus, the demon Skoragnit wanted to kill. The group surrounds the demon and he unleashes wail after wail, forcing Konguq and Vodren to fall unconscious and Skoragnit to fall under Proseus's control. Ryai glances to Ace seeing a lost cause and tells him to get to his side so they could escape to Wayreth. Ace however, reaches out to Mishakal asking for her aid. She responds and tells him to go help his friends. He rushes to Vodren's side and stabilizes him while Mishakal uses Ryai's moonbeam to eliminate Proseus. Ace stabilizes the group and Skoragnit comes to her senses, disappointed she couldn't kill Proseus herself. Skoragnit heals Konguq and Vodren (despite Vodren not wanting her to) and thanks the group for their assistance. Ryai asks if he can call her again and she agrees.
With the party healed, the Gnolls return with evidence of thier work splattered across thier face. The group talks about what to do next and offer that Vodren go and befriend the bear. The Gnolls laugh and egg Vodren on to do it. Once they get there, they realize that the bear was an illusion to scare off people. They enter the living room and find a large locked stone door not on the map. There they find a very sick Broud and two moaning dwarven skeletons. They pull him out and Vodren looks him over and realizes that it's the exact same thing that plauged the Dimernesti they saved in Good Bay. Meaning healing him might mean another fight, something the party wasn't ready for. Vodren attempts to stabilize him instead to buy time but does it too well and heals Broud. A Gorilla plauge spirit comes out and the Dandies prepare for a round 2 with Morgian
