Reactions to Deal Maker's Chapter 202

TL;DR - Alberu teasing Cale by subtly talking about recruiting Basen and Lily to work for the palace. Cale felt like his slacker life dream was being threatened. Cale and Alberu meet Ahn Roh Man via video conference something. Ahn Roh Man's related to the Transparent Blood family.

Overworked Alberu The first part was so funny. Because of the mines Cale gave him, Alberu had been very busy. Even when he hired new people, they were still interns and in training. So when he met Cale in his office, he began to tease the source of his troubles. 😂

He talked and praised Basen and Lily's talents. But Cale realized why he was doing that. He realized Alberu wanted to recruit his siblings to work for the palace! And Cale felt his slacker life dream being threatened! 🤣🤣🤣

Alberu even talked about giving a speech at the opening ceremony of the academy Lily was attending, and Cale had a grim expression as he thought of how to stop it... Cale wanted to support his sister, so if she dreamed bigger and wanted to work for the kingdom, he would still support her... But what about his slacker life dream then? 😂

Raon kept asking Alberu why his human's eyes were shaking or why he looked grim, and Alberu just smiled brightly or laughed out loud. Yeah, he's having fun teasing Cale. 😂

Another funny part was when Cale tried to explain hyunpi and dark past. Despite the explanation, Alberu still took it seriously... which weirded out Cale. 😂 Frankly, I don't know how to explain about Alberu's reaction. I think reading it will be better, because translating it here will be too long.

Ahn Roh Man's Looks Taerang underwent some update and now had some projector function. Which meant that Cale could talk to Ahn Roh Man via a video call. And when they finally saw Ahn Roh Man's face, they were surprised because he was a dark elf Alberu lookalike!

Ahn Roh Man had dark brown skin, brown hair, and brown eyes. His hair and skin were slightly lighter than dark elf Alberu. He wore glasses and appeared to be in his 30s. Unlike Alberu who appeared to be sociable and outgoing, Ahn Roh Man had a cold businessman look.

And then, Cale recalled that this cold businessman was like a version of Alberu who was studious, but was once a gamer who cried about hyunpi and dark past... 🤣🤣🤣 Cale's change of expression was hilarious. Even more when he learned that Ahn Roh Man met The Blue One in the game when he was 15.... Cale thought that was second year of middle school. The exact age of a chuunibyou patient. 🤣🤣🤣 ('Chuuni' means second year of middle school, and 'byou' means disease/illness)

Ahn Roh Man's Family There was some confusion in Cale's group when Ahn Roh Man said that he was part of the family that owned Transparent Co., Ltd. Ahn Roh Man explained that his father was the owner of a small game company. His father's younger brother was the VP, and married the daughter of the family who owned Transparent Co., Ltd.

But his uncle betrayed his father, took over the game company, and with his aunt, handed it over to Transparent Co., Ltd... Why is this cliche in Korean chaebol dramas here? 😂

Some more info. Ahn Roh Man's father was the game developer while his mother was the game designer. The game they created, Raising My Precious Absolute God, was a virtual reality game. Ahn Roh Man became number 1 in the rankings because he felt like he had to. After all, this was the game his parents created and worked hard for.

Ending Remarks Still no info about the Soos, hahaha. But we had some info dump about Ahn Roh Man. Next chapter will probably be more stuff about the game.

Kaiju Week in Review (November 27-December 3, 2022)

Netflix released the Norwegian blockbuster Troll on Thursday. It's decent. I'm glad that original creature features can still exist, but unfortunately there's not much to set this one apart from the pack besides the novel setting and monster. Readers of this column will have no trouble predicting nearly every story beat. Props for including a cute hacker (and the wacky operation shown above... trolls hate church bells, you see).

IDW finally published Godzilla Rivals: Vs. Gigan, which was originally supposed to come out on May 25 with a different artist. I'd say it's my second-favorite of the series, after the King Ghidorah issue. The premise—the Nebulans upload fighting techniques from gamers around the world into Gigan and sic him on Seattle—was always going to be a winner, and it actually does something with its period setting. Great action, and I'm delighted the Nebulans finally came back in a big way.

The Colorado-based toy company Titanic Creations has licensed Gorgo, and they've got big plans for the Irish Godzilla. The DopePope sculpt above will be the basis for a super-articulated figure; announced alongside it were a graphic novel that follows the 1961 film and (more tentatively) an animated film! The comic is due in 2024 and will be set in the same universe's that the company's original kaiju inhabit. Now they just need a bawdy novelization of the new film to complete the Gorgo hat trick.

Student-run Studio Mujaku has a short in the works, titled Midnight the Era, which will combine tokusatsu and hand-drawn animation. Fascinating premise—in a world where nuclear weapons are replacing human-controlled kaiju as deterrents, one of Japan's kaiju decides to resist its decommissioning. The storyboards and teaser trailer look lovely too. One scary caveat, from the SciFi Japan article: "Unlike many student works, MIDNIGHT THE ERA will not be released on YouTube. Instead, it is scheduled to premiere at the Summer 2023 Comiket comic convention in Tokyo. DVDs of the film will also be sold at Studio Mujaku's booth during the convention." So this might end up being one of those kaiju shorts that'll be nigh-impossible to see in the West unless you go to G-Fest (if that).

Godziban dropped another mostly-filler episode which recaps season 1, though it does start with a short scene of Rodan teaching Radon to fly. They're really testing Wikizilla's color-coding abilities with all these segments!

Radon is also getting a Bandai Movie Monster Series figure later this month, alongside the Godziban Anguirus. Images not to scale; I'd expect Radon to be about the size of the Minilla and Little figures.

In other Godzilla toy news, Playmates VPs of Marketing John Stelzner and Pat Linden went on the Adventures in Collecting Podcast and revealed some of the company's plans for the line. Offerings next year will include Baragon (not sure which one) and a new Titan Tech figure. They'll also be making more figures of MonsterVerse kaiju from before Godzilla vs. Kong, are working on a line for the fifth MonsterVerse film, and have their sights set on Hedorah and Biollante for the classic line.

I'll close with a reminder that Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time will be playing in U.S. theaters on the 6th, 8th, and 11th. My semester also ends on the 11th, so I'm in crunch mode now, but I'm still hoping to carve out the time to see it.

Zhanyin Lorra was a potential chinese synth, who was going to be developed by Shanghai HENIAN Co. Ltd in collaboration with NetEase, however she was cancelled. shes voiced by Gui Xian Ren, who won the contest for lorras vp, and illustrated by Da Nu Luo. lorra had a completed vb, but it wasnt released due to a mishap. she was to be the mascot for neteases online rpg rhythm game, ZhanyinOL. netease abandoned lorra, and the person responsible for her development at shanghai henian resigned. in 2017 Joyme Network purchased her character rights. lorra currently features in a game, in which her design and lore were slightly changed, released by netease(?) and joyme(?)(im actually not too sure what joyme has to do with it, i just know they hold lorras character rights, or at least i think they still do, and i know they are, or maybe "were" as their website is gone, a "media portal for gamers and developers"(from tracxn.com)). this game is called "Yuánqì Zhàn Jī Xuéyuàn" (some google and deepl translations include: "Genki Battle Hime Academy", "Genki Battle Girls Academy", "Yuanqi Fighting Girl", and "Yuanqi Fighting Girl Academy", though i recommend looking for it in chinese, "元气战姬学院", if you want to know more about it.) it is unknown if joyme or whoever else will release a vb for lorra in the future, though her in game va is her vp Gui Xian Ren, however lorra is described as having "lost the ability to sing"(google translation of Yuánqì Zhàn Jī Xuéyuàn's baike baidu page), but this might not be definitive change in direction for the character, and just a reference to her time as a vocaloid. also sorry but i have no idea how to even go about finding who drew the image of lorra in the game. lorra is physically/ visually 16yo, though her actual age 163. she is also 163cm tall. her character birthday is 26 aug, which is also the date her name, design, and lore were revealed

Lion has a very, very small internet presence out of choice. Does enjoy Corvus's channel because it's calming and puts him to sleep.

Horus does something. And the content is engaging. Too bad he's shadowbanned so you don't know what it is. After complaining to the VP about it (Malcador), he was locked out of his channel for about a week.

Fulgrim and Sanguinius are beauty gurus (Fulgrim practically forced Sanguinius to do this) but for some odd reason (it's odd to him) his stuff is always age-restricted. WTF?! Fulgrim is always having some kind of bitch fit while doing makeup and is busy ranting to the camera and Sanguinus is just... staring at him. They are popular because their audience is thirsty but there's a small population that likes to fuck with Fulgrim to see him flip his shit in his videos.

Guilliman is the 40k version of David Ramsey except you can see the light go out in his eyes with every caller talking about the financial mistakes they've made. May or may not start nursing a glass of wine with every video. Becomes surprisingly famous as a reaction meme. Is even more dismayed at that. Leman called in once while he was drunk.

Corvus... has an ASMR channel where he narrates horror stories. Konrad's always trolling his videos by reporting them. He has no internet presence regardless because he's banned from everything lmao.

Magnus is popular in the New Age community despite this... not being his intention. Has been featured on Fulgrim and Sanguinius's channel as an unwilling model which helped boost said popularity.

Leman Russ and Angron are gamers who are also popular because folks like to see Angron rage quit and Leman laugh his ass off. Angron is also afraid of horror games so Leman got his ass a couple times.

Vulkan has a nice welding and DIY channel and he's incredibly popular in those circles.

Perty and Dorn were forced to do a podcast together and NO ONE expected it to take off as it did. It was supposed to be an architecture podcast but it turned into a social commentary podcast without the social commentary really and all Perturabo does is bitch and moan about Dorn while Dorn just shuts him down in a deadpan voice. Folks love the chaos and think they play it up for clicks and views but no, they're really like this. lmao.

Lorgar has made his niche in history and breaks down religious texts. He, too, is shadowbanned because he's Lorgar. lol

Jaghatai Khan has amassed a following because he collects bikes and posts about them.

Alpharius and Omegon are professional trolls who... troll their brothers, mainly Guilliman and Fulgrim so they can see him bitch and moan. They're the ones who will photoshop and fuck Fulgrim's pictures up so he can rant yet again. Ferrus Manus shakes his head because everyone BUT Fulgrim knows it's Alpharius and Omegon who are doing it.

Speaking of Ferrus, he doesn't really have an internet presence but he usually oversees the production of Fulgrim and Sanguinius' channel and Perty and Dorn's podcast.

Mortarion secretly runs a burn book account where folks talk shit and be petty, especially about his brothers.

Can you imagine President Soot announcing the elections and learning that the reader immediately enrolled as a candidate. He’d be annoyed, but also a strange mixture of proud and exhilarated. 

This is another enemies AND lovers moment y’all. (want to hc that someone actually suggested impeachment or a vote of no-confidence against President Wilbur a couple times– which the reader actually refused to do, marking the one and only time that they defended wilbur on the political stage, saying that government should be run through debate and consideration and not mindless evictions, yada yada. Wilbur was looking at them like 😳). 

Anyway the day comes for the candidates to choose their running mates— I don't remember how that went down in canon, so I'll make some stuff up. Let’s assume that each candidate gives a short speech and then announces their future VP. It’s like a publicity stunt, getting their names out there for people to remember and hopefully vote for. 

There’s this one guy in L’manburg, let’s just call him Archibald or something (old man, dude in his 40s), who vehemently opposes everything the reader does. He doesn’t like Wilbur either

Despite all of this, A r c h i b a l d  is not a complete prick. He cares for L’Manburg in his own way, even if his tactics and views don’t align with his peers. He amassed quite a following, but wasn’t chosen as a political candidate, and resorted to glaring at the other contestants from his place in the audience. 

Back to the reader. Now, they know they are at an extreme disadvantage here. Public speaking is not their thing– shady, one-on-one contract deals are more their style. Talking to a crowd? Forget about it. They need to take a gamble. 

Wilbur chooses Tommy as his VP, Quacktiy chooses George, Fundy chooses Niki, and they choose…. Archibald.

The stadium goes silent, flabbergasted, as they announce their pick. Some of the reader’s close constituents look offended, and Archibald looks flabbergasted. But he isn’t going to pass up this opportunity– not yet at least. He shakes their hand and joins them on stage. 

By drawing a truce with their worst political enemy and showing the citizens that they are willing to work with opposing ideals,  the reader has pulled what we call a pro gamer move. 

Wilbur is a little impressed? Maybe?

Just imagine him standing on the other end of the stage, elbows on the podium, head resting against his fist as he just grins. 

Imagine his vaguely flirty behavior with Quackity, but doubled.  

Man knows how to roll an insult, pick-up-line, and partially-backhanded/partially-genuine compliment into one. 

Still too cocky to think he’ll lose the elections though. 

I swear i had other ideas about this but they won't come to me.

Also: no romance/jealousy scene is implied with Archibald. he's just some old guy politician who becomes a coworker.

the idea of tommy as his vp in this scenario seems to funny to me bc of the clips where tntduo would be havijg an intense discussion and tommy would just go. “ARE U GUYS KISSING” because he’d definitely do that

post debates, coming off stage, both a little sweaty and worked up from nerves, and wilbur’s just standing there looking too hot for his own good, so the reader picks something absolutely stupid to just fucking yell at him about, and they’re getting in each other’s faces, literally lips seconds apart, arguing in fancy political and business terms, and then tommy turns the corner. pauses.

“wilbuh can you stop MAKING OUT with the ENEMY”

also love the pro gamer move on readers part. thats actually a genuinely smart political show (until it becomes time to pass legislation but theres a reason they changed the law about who the VP ends up being (thanks hamilton))
