Yet another 25th anniversary design for my (still unnamed 😔) AU. Professor Utonium was honestly probably the most intimidating out of the designs I’ve done so far. His canonical design is simplistic and utilitarian yet not in a way that can be built off of super heavily like the Puffs/Ruffs (especially since the Professor is already an adult in canon). Decided not to mess around with him too much but I still altered his design enough to be distinct from canon. Had a lot of fun with this though regardless, Professor Utonium is an absolute blast to draw!

What is "What Once Was" all about? :)
Glad you asked!!! So so glad I'm able to infodump about this. Not sure how comprehensible this will be but whatever.
Okay so, What Once Was is about a few things and ended up developing in my head after I just wanted to write a Mojo Jojo oneshot. Essentially, it's a fic that studies the relationship between Mojo Jojo, the Puff, and the Ruffs 25 years post canon (in my own AU timeline but that's a bit of a given). Specifically, it takes place on the Puff's 30th birthday. Mojo Jojo in this fic is a sad old bitter fuck who hasn't been in the Ruff's lives at all (let alone as a father) for years upon years and is angry about that fact, he's pissed off about the fact that he's lost his youth and he's close to death and that he has nobody. And today of all days, as he's grumbling around festering in his own frustrations and failings, he looks back on his actions and decides he's gonna attempt to get back into his kids lives even if he does have to put up with those blasted Puffs.
Meanwhile, the Ruffs have not been in Mojo's life for years and are more than happy about that fact. There was a fuck ton of work put into it on both sides over the years but the Puffs and Ruffs have formed essentially what I'd like to call a "found family unit" with one another. While yes there is shipping here (color code because I'm traditional and BORING!), the main focus here is the sturdiness of their unit as a whole and how they all interact with one another. Not to be sappy or anything but they all love each other and they worked their asses off to get to that point given that the six of them were made to inherently despise each other.
The main conflict of this fic arises from the fact that Mojo and the Puffs and Ruffs want two directly different things out of their lives. Mojo wants to get back to the past in order to relive his glory days, while the Puffs and Ruffs want to run as far away as possible from their past due to a variety of factors, mainly the fact that their relationship to Townsville has become fairweathered and tumultuous at best along with the fact that they've just experienced a lot of shit at the hands of so many people over the years. The Puffs and Ruffs are very, very much reaching their limits and that'll bleed through the fic along with the familial tension that exists between the Ruffs and Mojo. Those are the two main emotional points here.
The Puffs and Ruffs just want to look towards the future as they hit new milestones as adults, while Mojo is stuck in his ways and will do anything to drag them back into the past so he doesn't have to think about his own mortality and loneliness for too long.
The main plotline of this fic I'd say outside of these character studies is that there's a big 30th birthday celebration event happening in the name of the Puffs, which also so happens to be they day where the six of them are going to be announcing some massive changes to Townsville's police system, particularly their budgeting with a ton of the existing budget now going to be funneled into aspects such as more affordable housing, education, and healthcare. This is something the six of them have been working together on for years and it's a decision that not a lot of people are going to like (especially when "police budget cuts" and "Rowdyruffs" are involved in the same sentence). The entire fic builds up to this ceremony and follows Mojo, the Puffs, and Ruffs perspectives as we lead up to that ceremony. There are also a lot of flashbacks in this fic, mostly coming from Mojo reminiscing about his relationship to the Puffs and Ruffs, although there's some from other characters (mainly Boomer for now but I'm still figuring things out).
The main types of relationship dynamics that will be explored and compared will be that of nuclear and found family dynamics. Besides the "nuclear" (I use nuclear super loosely here) relationship between the Ruffs and Mojo and the found family relationship between the Puffs and Ruffs being compared, the nuclear family relationship the Blues and Reds have formed amongst themselves (with the Blues having a set of twin four year olds and the Reds having a newborn) will be contrasted against Mojo, the Professor, and Miss Keane's (who is the adoptive mother of the Ruffs in my AU) as the Reds and Blues explore what it's like to be parents. The familiar relationship with Miss Keane, The Professor, and their sets of kids is contrasted against Mojo's parenting, Mojo and the Professor's relationship to one another is explored. There's a ton of familiar comparing and contrasting here, this is a family fic at its core and I will explore that to the best of my abilities.
This is also a grief fic at its core in multiple senses, particularly regarding the grief about the passage of time, what's to come, and one's past. What Once Was is not a happy fic and will not have a happy ending, maybe bittersweet, but not happy. The penultimate chapter I have in place especially is going to be devastating and existential. This is a forewarning, it will not be the only forewarning I give, but this will be the first. I don't know if that counts as a spoiler per say, but I feel like I should put that out there given that I don't want anybody to come in unassumingly and read what I intend to become a very emotionally intensive piece of fanfiction. For PPG standards, What Once Was is a darkfic. It's not graphic outside of canon typical violence for the most part, but it does dive heavily into darker themes emotionally/mentally. Maybe I'm using the term wrong though.
Mojo is a piece of shit in What Once Was, to describe it best; he's a cartoon villain dealing with real life issues and handles them with the grace and compassion of a cartoon villain and he faces the consequences of that regardless of how infallible he believes himself to be.
I think that's all I can say without getting into spoiler territory about Mojo's actions and what ends up happening throughout this fanfiction. I will give you some synopsis notes I wrote for the first pages of my character bibles though.

Status Update - Summer and Autumn 2020
You can expect little activity from me for the remainder of this year. It’s been tough to keep up with my one-shot projects for the first half of 2020, and I believe I need to take a break from writing to focus on my studying goals first of all. No on-going story is abandoned as usual, but I’ll go on hiatus for a while. We’ll see if I can put something out after September or not.
I’ve decided to put little status updates on my profiles for each story as well, so here I’ll put a bit of an expanded version of those notes so to let anyone who’s interested an idea of what I’m up to. Wall text warning (sorry :D):
Pacifica over Yonder is still on hiatus. Revenge, Sweet Revenge and The Primeval Devourer Rewritten will take precedence over it, while The Powerpuff Legacy will continue receiving slow updates from time to time (next chapter is about halfway done).
The Star vs the Forces of Evil story project I’ve been working on is titled The Butterfly Bane. It’s an AU story set in an alternate version of Mewni, even though one of the two main protagonists is still canon!Star (as in, not an alternate version of her). It might be a while before I start posting this one, but eventually I’ll do it (first chapter is technically ready to be posted, but I want to get a roadmap done for the full story before starting). Butterfly Bane and Pacifica over Yonder will be my main longfic projects once Revenge and the rewriting of the PPG story are done.
One-shots that I’ve been working on include
Unnamed Undertale story, starring Undyne, focused on a friendship development and set in a post-Pacifist scenario.
Fracture. a Star vs one-shot set in the same time frame as my previous one-shots The Assignment and Far Gone, in-between the two chronologically, and starring Eclipsa, Jushtin and Solaria.
These are the projects that are most likely to happen. More ideas for stories may happen later on, including more Crash Bandicoot and Ape Escape stories, Star vs the Forces of Evil stories and/or crossovers, and possibly some random tidbits of fanfiction writing that didn’t quite make it as full stories, but I may share anyway.
As a final note: From now on, I’ll post here when new stories are posted, one post for each one-shot and a post for the first chapter of each new multi-chapter story plus more post for some key chapter updates for new and on-going fics both. I believe tumblr won’t show post with links going outside the site in the fandom tags, so this will be more of a way for me to keep track of what I am doing here (since for all previous updates I basically outright stop talking about stories once they’re finished and posted).
In fact, I’ll start now with a follow up from Planning #16: Past Tense has been posted as a three-chapter long story, focusing on Pasadena O’Possum as the protagonist and set during Crash Tag Team Racing. The story revolves around her realising she doesn’t quite know about her own past, and her attempt to seek help on this nagging issue from the rest of the CTTR cast. Moreover, a new Ape Escape one-shot was posted as well, titled Hearing You Out, set during the first game and starring Charu and Spike. It narrates a what-if scenario where Spike hesitates during his first monkey-catching adventure.
Check out my ffnet and ao3 profile links to look up the stories if you’re interested.

Something’s amiss in the city of Townsville…
This doubles as a piece for an AU I'm working on and as a reimagining of what these characters could look like at 30 since the 25th anniversary of the show just passed. I have a lot to say about this, so I'm gonna put my full thoughts and explanations under a read more.
Happy (belated) 25th anniversary to The Powerpuff Girls! I don’t really think there’s anything I can say about this phenomenal show that hasn’t been said before. It’s probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest influence on me as an artist and character designer. I don’t think I would have gotten into art to the extent that I did if it wasn’t for Crag McCracken and the creative team of The Powerpuff Girls, a show with ridiculous amounts of heart and humor, smart subversion of genres at the time that still hold up in a modern media landscape, and stellar character and set design that (in my opinion) remains some of the best we’ve ever seen in any cartoon. I could gush about this show for hours and I’d still not have all my thoughts out, I just want to say that it’s a truly special show and i’m so glad that it exists and I don’t think I could ever articulate to a full extent how important this show is to me.
I drew this piece for a few reasons, because it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the show and I wanted to give my shot at drawing what the Puffs (and Ruffs too, love those shithead kids) would look like at 30 since they were created as five year olds. Second, this was essential a character design self imposed challenge, I wanted to see what I could do to age up characters that notoriously look terrible aged up and make them harmonious with one another in the process after altering them so much. I'm planning to do The Professor and Mojo Jojo in the future too. Lastly, that these designs subsequently actually line up with an AU that I’m working on, I’m not going to infodump about it on this post since there’s a lot to it. But one of the facets of it is that the Ruffs end up gravitating towards neutrality as they get older. If I were to go with more canon depictions of what I think they’d look like at 30 (well technically 29 if you consider their original episode air date to be their birthday like I’m considering the Puffs birthday to be when the show started airing), they’d be a lot more deranged.
(Also Butch and Buttercup are genderqueer and absolute enby menaces about it. This piece also functions as trans Greens propaganda. Yes I am self indulgent thank you for asking.)

Almost a month ago, I posted my designs for the Powerpuffs and Rowdyruffs in my (still unnamed lol) AU. Recently I’ve been working on a fanfiction apart of this AU that largely focuses on Mojo Jojo and decided I should sit down and draw my take on him. He’s retired from being a supervillain and spends most of his days working on his model ships, crosswords, and sulking about the fact that nobody actually likes him (including his own children).

Been so caught up in Powerpuff Girls autism brainrot that I didn’t even realize that I hadn’t actually drawn humanoids in my own art style for a couple months. Obviously, being deep in PPG autism brainrot, I decided that the first humanoids I needed to draw in my style would be humanized versions of my Puff and Ruff designs from my AU (1, 2) (specifically, for my WIP fanfiction What Once Was). I’m most likely not going to draw these humanoid designs again since I think it goes a bit against the point of their original designs to make them humanoid, but their human designs were fun to come up with! My main rule is that they still had to maintain their big ol’ weird bug eyes and colored eyelids! They're fucking weirdos to me, and I did my best to show that off in my designs. These were a blast to draw, I’m sooo normal about these six.

Greens genderqueer posting hours let's go because the brain worms never stop, headcanons for my (still unnamed) AU time:
• HIM knew they were both trans the entire time, from the very beginning when they first found out about their existence, HIM knew instantly. The moment it clicks for the greens and they talk about it with one another for the first time, HIM pops up from their lair and congratulates them. The greens are not happy about the fact that HIM knew this entire time and didn't tell them. Why? Because it was funny and also an entertaining form of psychological torture that they didn't have to do anything to set up since it was all Butch and Buttercup. They proceed to kick HIM's shit in for this.
• They are T4T (GQ4GQ/NB4NB specifically) 💙💖🤍💖💙/ 💜🤍💚/💛🤍💜🖤 (yes I am a self indulgent bastard making one of my childhood OTPs explicitly T4T, what are you gonna do about it? I'm not only a trans greens propagandist, but a T4T greens one too MUHAHAHAHA!!! >:3c Cringe is dead!)
• Buttercup gets a lot more comfortable with wearing stuff deemed to be more "feminine" such as dresses and makeup once they come out and transition. A large point of their discomfort regarding these things came from the fact that they were seen as a girl/woman, not due to the clothing and makeup itself. They still do majorly present in a way that would traditionally be read as masculine but they will fuck around with options they once pushed back on.
• Neither Butch or Buttercup change their names. Butch due to the fact that they're a genderqueer/non-binary butch and their name is perfect and Buttercup due to the fact that they built and constructed what their name meant given that they were only given it due to the fact it started with a B. They do also go by Bud though (which fun fact: was Buttercup's original name before Craig McCracken decided on Buttercup).
• The greens both specifically paint their eyelids the same shade of dark green to hide their eyelid color. Canonically, the Puffs and Ruffs show sexual dimorphism via their eyelid colors (which are purple and red respectively, unless talking about the digital seasons which I prefer to ignore LOL). These eyelids darken during puberty into much deeper shades of purple and red, and the Greens being dysphoric about this fact both chose to paint their eyelids a uniform green and make something distinctly genderqueer out of their experiences, have something shared between them, and make something out of their unique species biology.
• Butch doesn't really wear dresses for the most part, but will do so for special occasions and big events. It isn't really a gender thing and they don't think that butches shouldn't be able to wear dresses because you can do whatever you want with your gender forever, they just find them really uncomfortable.
• Buttercup isn't a constant binder due to the fact that their chest dysphoria fluctuates. Butch got them their first binder.
• Honestly both of them don't really have much body dysphoria I'd say, main ones I can think of would have to be chest dysphoria for Butch and hip dysphoria for Buttercup. Most of their dysphoria more so manifested socially, pertaining to their voices, facial hair, and various non human aspects of them:
ex: in my AU, Adrenaline-X (the main type of X found in their species bodies that's used for powers and healing) is a finite source that can be used before it has to be replenished via rest. In testosterone based systems, Adrenaline-X runs out quicker but can be used for more powerful high energy attacks, in estrogen based systems, Adrenaline-X runs out more gradually but cannot be used for super powerful high energy attacks. This is a point of dysphoria for the Greens which mostly (but not completely) levels out once they start HRT. Given that they were running on the prior system for so long, remnants still remain so they almost have this mixed system of sorts leaning toward the effects of the HRT they're on, both beneficial and also... once again, distinctly genderqueer.
• The greens would talk about their dysphoria which each other constantly prior to them realizing they were trans, but they both had the mindset that "hey, everybody's like that" so you'd just have conversations where one of them would bring in obvious gender dysphoria and the other would be like "oh hey me too! I think everybody's like that though", repeat ad nauseam until they were 18.
• Speaking of facial hair, Buttercup lasered off Butch's facial hair with their eye beams during a scuffle a year or two before they realized they were trans. It never ended up growing back much to the delight of Butch, and interesting to see they reacted so positively to not having facial hair anymore in hindsight.
• Given that they were kids and teens during the 90's/2000's, they did not have the language to describe their experiences as genderqueer growing up and just thought something was wrong with them. Townsville's bad record regarding GNC/trans people was also a big influence on pushing back their feelings.
• Another factor into why they didn't realize they were trans: when they did find out about trans people, it was explicitly binary trans people. While they related to these experiences a lot (to a point in which it scared them), they could not related to the idea of wanting to be a woman/man at all which made the process of finding out they were trans to be much harder. They were! Just not in any binary sense. Not MTF/FTM, not even transfem or transmasc (which are much broader terms which they wouldn't have been able to have access to regardless given that they're newer). Given modern language, I'd solidly place them as atrinary (even more specifically, maverique) regardless of the fact that they do present in ways that could be read as fem/masc and transitioned in ways traditionally ascribed to transfems/transmascs (because presentation and transition goals do not equal gender!)
•Genderqueer clicked for them pretty instantly once they actually found out about the term especially given their heavy connections to trans experiences they'd read about, which also made them recontextualize being trans and their experiences with dysphoria (which were not an "oh everybody experiences this" thing like they brushed off for so long). This initial realization was complicated, while they were happy to have language to describe them, they also had to come to terms with the fact that they were trans in an environment that would not accept that and that brought a lot of grief. Especially given that there weren't nearly as many accessible online resources and any in person resources they'd try to get would just... out them to everybody.
• The greens stayed closeted for two years after it finally clicked for them, mainly out of fear of losing what they have with their families, fear of rejection, and fear of backlash from Townsville given their high profile status as supers (even with the Ruffs not being superheros and just... existing for the most part nowadays they still have eyes on them at all times). Their suspicions were right and it was a difficult process for their families who had their own ingrained negative beliefs about being GNC or trans along with how important of a concept sisterhood/brotherhood was to them. Also Townsville fucking sucked about it truly just so atrocious. But it was the best choice in the end and they managed to get through it with their families. Townsville still sucks about it btw given that their ideas of queerness come mostly from queercoded supervillains in the city.
• The greens are the worlds worst communicators regarding their feelings/struggles and also have truly atrocious coping skills about being closeted. The only reason they came out in the first place was because they went on a bender and their families dragged them back and questioned them about it. They kept shooting various theories out as to why they were acting like this until Boomer of all people ended up guessing that they were trans. Some of the other theories included them being in a cult (suggested by Brick), them having a drug problem (suggested by Blossom, Miss Keane, and The Professor), and them being conspiracy theorists (suggested by Bubbles).
• Once they transition, sometimes the two of them will dress as one another post transition specifically to fuck with people. They will also sometimes dress as they would have pre transition to fuck with people. The lengths they will go through to do this are absurd, some highlights of these extents include: Butch also now having a binder, Buttercup specifically doing voice training so they can talk at their pre T voice range, binding/tucking not for euphoria purposes but for mischievous gender purposes, and convincing the Professor to get them access to colored contacts in their eye colors so they can use them solely to fuck with people. Now that they're a lot more comfortable with themselves post transition, they're more than happy to be explicitly genderfucky.
• The two of them end up shaving their heads at the same time to signify the beginning of their transition and to see how they change alongside one another. They do this once more time a couple years later, however it isn't for trans and rebirth symbolism reasons that time, I will get into this in What Once Was. :)
•Given the amount of transphobia they've been subjected to, the both of them are basically experts at turning any sort of transphobia flung their ways on its head. Transphobes have zero wiggle room they've heard everything and will be delightfully spiteful and petty towards anybody who attempts to be a bigot.
• Given that they'd were coming to terms with being trans in the late 2000's/early 2010's, they have attachments to terms that would be seen as more archaic now. While they mainly refer to themselves as genderqueer (also another example of them IDing with terms they had available to them as non-binary hadn't gained traction yet when they realized they were trans) and trans if asked, they also often refer to themselves as transsexual.
• A pretty solid reason as to why they prefer calling themselves genderqueer over non-binary is for the fact that the genderqueer flag has green in it. Yes, seriously. They fall under both categories though.
tl;dr These green bitches are trans and spiteful about it!!! Good for them!!

Only took another month for me to sit down and do the next of my designs for my (say it with me now everybody) Unnamed PPG AU. Decided to go with HIM this time around to wrap up the main cast of my 25 years post canon WIP fic, What Once Was. While all the designs I’ve done for this project have been super self indulgent in one way or another, I think my take on HIM may be the most obvious example of this. Wanted to make HIM more menacing and demonic so I did just that.

Drawing almost exclusively PPG fan art for a month straight now has really helped me reconnect with what I loved so much about being an artist, and that's character design and drawing cartoons. Legit getting back into my PPG special interest and working on my old (still unnamed) AU again has done wonders for me especially as somebody who's pushed themselves to draw semi realistically for years.
