as far as i am personally concerned, azem did not just fuck off and stop caring or really even intentionally/formally leave the convocation despite their numerous misgivings about their colleagues' choice of action. they did NOT agree with the sacrifices to zodiark (especially since all of the small surviving number of their people were sacrificed for zodiark, making them the last of their specific subset of ancients), nor did they endorse the summoning of hydaelyn. the sacrifice of hythlodaeus also further alienated them from being okay with the whole zodiark situation. (i’m also a huge ascian hyth/unsundered hyth au enabler because i think paion would’ve absolutely flipped the bird and sacrifices themselves in hyth’s place if they had known about it -- i assume they didn’t know about hyth’s sacrifice until it was too late, otherwise they would’ve tried to stop that and/or go in hyth’s place, partly bc he’s their bestie and partly bc paion would’ve felt that their place was with their own people inside of zodiark.)

i think paion was either killed trying to defend their friends from those weird creation-magic-gone-wild monsters (since, afaik, there's nothing saying that the recently departed weren't also sundered? otherwise we'd have a bunch of unsundered souls being reincarnated onto the reflections, which doesn't seem to be happening -- pls correct me if i'm wrong tho) or they were straight up time traveling (since azem SOMEHOW seems to be aware of the WoL's existence and actions on elpis, as demonstrated during the pandemonium quests.)

now. that out of the way, i'd love to do an ascian au with paion time-travelling to some point but i just really don't see them being okay with sacrificing yet more people in an effort to save the old world...unless someone close to them really manipulates tf out of them (which would be hella interesting tbh) but otherwise idk.

another au idea is where they've been quietly evading everyone singing their way through time and gathering as much information as possible whilst planning to pull a massive trump card that undoes the entire future (as in straight up prevents the sundering and everything from ever happening) instead of sacrificing/causing calamities but idk man. i have waaaay too many niche plot ideas in my head lmfao
