Yo! I'm participating in the Lupin III Castle of Cagliostro reanimated Collab! Here is one of the scenes I did!

I couldn't pass up the chance to animate Lupin & Jigen's infamous running scene! 👍

I have another scene that's already finished, and one that I'm still working on, so I'll post those sometime later too!

No matter how much awesome analysis I read from you (and peaterookie) [and tsukumo-nya!], I can't change knowing how neglected the original manga is sometimes but I have too many mixed feelings about Monkey Punch that I wouldn't recommend the manga to anyone. A little detail I can't help but notice is how Anime Goemon's Zantetsuken has a bigger entry than Manga Goemon himself on the Lupin Fandom wiki and Japanese Wikipedia page and that is hilarious. Being a fan of Manga Goemon is a curse :(

i get how you feel yeah... my only hope is that at least someday we'll get some animated adaptation of goemon from the manga, but i think the folks at tms are a little afraid that he doesn't resemble at all the anime version most people associate the name with. i kind of like anime goemon but it really seems like the writers don't know what to do with him most of the time, and i think having a concrete basis for who the character is would help very much.

i understand how you feel about the manga though. many parts of the original made me feel uncomfortable, and even if monkey punch did grow as a person over time and stopped justifying lupin's actions, it was still a prominent part of the manga. i feel like he was even making readers feel this way on purpose sometimes, like in chapter 31 "Strange Bedfellows"/"Goemon's Close Call" of shin where it's so prolonged that you really worry about goemon.

if you wanna recommend something of the manga, honestly new adventures is great cause it's pretty tame. only bad thing i can really think of was that scene where for some reason (monkey punch logic) lupin and crew have to have sex with rasputin's 3 wives in order to break their hypnosis, but they end up failing anyways. i kind of wish new adventures was separated from the original manga on mangadex to make it easier to just recommend those chapters but it's whatever.

i like doing these posts because it's my way of documenting the things i think of the manga and even some of the research i've had to do, but it's not exactly great to have to scroll through all these posts so idk lol. at least it's providing more information than the fandom wiki and japanese wiki have so that's something.

also if it makes you feel any better about liking manga goemon, you should look up 原ゴエ ("genngoe") on sites like pixiv and twitter.

it's a term that combines "gennsaku" (meaning original work) and "goemon" that people use. there's so much good art and even stuff like fan comics and writing to dig through that it puts a smile on my face. some of my favorite art is from mochiko/もちこ (https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/9208) and みやの (https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/5582408), but there's a bunch of other cool artists too.

Sword Master Goemon Ishikawa 🗡️

I don't have much of a commentary for this one, I just wanted to draw Goemon doing a bad a** pose with his katana in my art style!

I got inspired to draw this while looking at Ukiyo-e art of the real life Goemon Ishikawa, as well as production art from the Koike Lupin III movie "Goemon's Bloodspray"! --------------------------

The Castle of Cagliostro Collab isn't the only Lupin The Third Animation Collab I'm participating in.✨️

Here is a scene I animated for the Lupin III Part 2 Reanimated Collab!

I'm doing 2 scenes for this collab, and this is the first one!

I'm glad that I got a chance to animate something with Goemon in it!

I tried to animate his hair so that it moves like how characters in Ghibli movies hair does when they get excited or angry.

I had a lot of fun with this scene, I got to draw and animate a bunch things that I don't usually get to, and I got to work with the camera movements more as well!✨

I have one other scene left that I already finished a while ago, and I'll be sure to post it soon too!

Goemon - New Adventures 🗡️🌿

So I was supposed to be just sketching Goemon, but I got super sidetracked and ended up making a full color animated image of Goemon instead! 😅

I drew him in his "Lupin III - New Adventures" manga design again because I like his hairstyle in that one, with the curly sideburns and how it flips up at the ends!

I ended up testing out different effects for this one, and it was super fun!✨

Goemon - First Appearance 🗡️

So I'm back at it with sketching every design Goemon's ever had, and this time it's his design from his first appearance! I am convinced he's a shape shifter at this point, he just looks so different each time! 😂

In the original manga Goemon always resembled Fujiko, but had thicker eyebrows, he has even impersonated Fujiko a few times by just putting on her clothes and a wig and no one noticed the difference, that's how similar they look. Also compared to the anime, in the original manga and the sequels "The new Adventures of Lupin III" & "Shin Lupin III" he had dirty blonde hair.

Somehow I'm not even half done drawing all of Goemon's different designs throughout the decades, but I'll get there someday!

Goemon Sketches ✏️

I decided to do some Goemon sketches in a few of the different designs he has. His look literally changes each season in the anime and every few chapters in the original manga! 😂

The first one is inspired by kid Goemon from the Mamo Kyousuke chapter in the manga.

The second one on the top is his Shin Lupin III and Lupin III part 3 design.

And the 3rd one in the catsuit is from the fangirl episode from Lupin III part 6. I literally did not expect Goemon to have such a snatched waist like he did in that episode, but I'm all for it!

And the chibi Jigen is there just because I got distracted! 😂😅

Lupin The Third 56th Anniversary!!! 🎊🎉

I drew the big image of Lupin on the right and the "56" last night, and put together a collage for the background of all of the drawings I've made of Lupin thus far (not counting the animations)!✨️🎨

On this day 56 years ago, Lupin III was first published in Weekly Manga Action!

The manga became an instant hit in Japan, and the series is still going on strong even today, having several manga series, comics, anime series, animated & live action movies, and video games!

It was among the first manga and anime series aimed towards adults, it's the first anime to use stereo audio, and series creator Monkey Punch was the ones who helped usher in the use of digital art and digital illustration.

Lupin III even inspired and was responsible for characters like TV reporter April O'Neal from the TMNT TV shows and films, Dr. Eggman & Rouge The Bat from Sonic The Hedgehog, Inspector Gadget which originally started from a Sci-Fi Lupin III spin off show that was planned (Lupin VIII), Persona 5, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Aria the Scarlet Ammo and many more. Lupin III even inspired some of the stuff you see in Indiana Jones and the Tom Cruz Mission Impossible movies, including the iconic vault stunt from his first MI movie.

Lupin III is an iconic series, one that despite starting in the 1960's, manages to always stay relevant and epic, and always comes out on top no matter what time period it is. The main character himself even prides himself on that!

So Happy 56th Anniversary to the franchise!!!✨️💎

Lupin Zero - Manga Style 📖

Yo! I'm back at it again with drawing sketches of Lupin III characters in the style of the manga! ✨ This time it's Lupin as a kid from the flashback arc "Confession Series", which was loosely adapted in the anime series "Lupin Zero"!

I find it interesting how in the manga he was more serious as a kid than he is as a grown up. But then again, it could've just been because he was having a super terrible week that entire flashback arc.🤔

Lupin ZERO💰💎 & Jigen ZERO 🚬

Here's are Lupin and Jigen profile pictures that I drew Thursday and Friday! The set is now complete!✨

Lupin Zero aired it's final episode yesterday, and it was awesome! I wish it would continue, but unfortunately it's over, but it was a great ride!

This is definitely one of my favorite Lupin III TV shows, tied with Part 5!

Lupin The Third - World's Most Wanted! 💎 💰

Here is my drawing of Arsène Lupin The Third, the iconic thrill seeking playboy Phantom Thief wanted the world over! 🌎

I like his outfit from the manga and the movie "The First" best, so I went with that look. Black shirt & pants, and his iconic red leather suit jacket!

Also, I just realized that I didn't post the Jigen and Goemon drawings I did a couple of weeks ago, so I'll post those on here sometime later.

Lupin The Third Sketches! ✏️

Here are some Lupin III sketches I drew!!! I was originally just going to sketch Fujiko, but somehow I ended up drawing the rest of the gang too!😅

For Fujiko I wanted to do a retro style pinup picture, and of course I had to include her signature weapon, the Browning M1910! I'll probably ink and color her later.

And for the Goemon sketch, I gave him a shooting star hair clip because his weapon the Zantetsuken (aka Ryusei in the manga) was a sword made from a shooting star! 💫

I really enjoy drawing sketches, so I might post more of those every now and then.

PS: you get bonus points if you can spot Jigen's favorite magazine in the picture! 😏 💯
