Moooore nightmare squad headcannons cause i’m a simp.

- Nightmare has a soul in the shape of a black apple, it’s not gooey and feels like an actual apple (Like a black diamond apple, A real thing!) though it still lightly beats and it’s warm like a soul although it isn’t sensitive so no soul play for nightmare, It has a few scarred over bite marks where each of the boys have taken a piece but otherwise is entirely unmarred. It’s technically one of many ‘souls’ as he has a lot of negative apples (which form his corruption most of the time), it is however the main soul and if it were to be destroyed, He to would die.

- Nightmare can in fact become stone just like dream did once upon a time, The guardian’s becoming stone is a defense mechanism to protect what they do (hope/negativity) and keep it from being stolen, It just takes a lot more to get nightmare to become stone vs dream who’s significantly weaker then him. But it is still possibly if nightmare is weakened enough/backed into a corner and he’d take longer then dream to recover as he’s a lot stronger (1000 years vs 500 years), He has no idea what would happen to his boys if this were to occur.

- Only two members of the nightmare squad could successfully carry a pregnancy/soulling without needing some form of medical assistance to make it possible (think monster surrogacy), These two being Nightmare and Dust. Dust is the best of the four since although he has a lot of LV, his soul is stable. Of a normal shape with plenty of magic to spare (alongside the magic of his partners) and his body is strong.

- Nightmare is in second since while his soul is odd, He much like dream was never meant to have a soul, but it works like a soul so it should work all the same. His mass amount of negative aura can be counteracted by gathering up small bits of hope, Storing it in some form of jewelry (probably his crown) to draw from for any soulling that needs it. His main issue is his host body, The corruption keeps it sturdy and makes him strong, but should that leak off at any point (From low magic levels/injury/illness/etc), He’d be left incredibly weak and vulnerable. If not in need of some powerful healing magic to sustain him and the soulling.

- Killer would be unable to carry a soul due to the state his own is in, the closest it ever gets to a ‘normal’ soul is when it morphs into a heart shape but it still floats outside of his chest and is unstable due to it being ‘rejected’ so to speak, He’d be able to create one with someone else, but never carry one.

- And Axe doesn’t have a soul, He’s by all monster standards dead (as he had a soul previously vs soulless beings) because the injury to his skull and the stealing of his magic (his eye) killed him that day, he is sustained entirely by the determination that burns through his body and the eye he stole (which occasionally needs to be replaced), His magic is weak and faulty. Barely working and often needing assistance from one of the other’s to form anything meaningful. So he can neither carry nor create one without the use of artificial methods (and this is for create only, not carry).

- Nightmare has a minor version of haphephobia (Fear of touch) and only on his host body.

- Axe has severe food anxiety despite knowing that nightmare would never let him starve again, He’s deeply possessive over any food that’s ‘his’ and to combat this, he has full control of the food stores in the castle and keeps a very neat list of what they have, what they don’t, what they need and what’s just snacks, he always has snacks on him. ALWAYS and has secret stashes stored throughout the castle for his own sake, He also gets anxious when anyone else isn’t eating/Looks to thin/etc and will cook food for them. (This is especially true when anyone in the castle is sick and can’t hold anything down)

- Killer has a fear of being controlled (fear of engulfment) because he was controlled once, Forced into killing his friends and family with no way to break free until his body rejected his soul out of sheer distress which is why his trust in nightmare is so intimate in nature, to offer his complete will and trust in another monster after what happened to him is almost spiritual, It’s why nightmare can touch his soul with ease, Why he can tell him what to do. Because despite fearing being controlled, He also does better with commands and sometimes has trouble thinking for himself so it’s a very sharp double edged sword that takes nightmare’s skill to maneuver around.

- Dust has Atychiphobia, a fear of failure because of failing his own timeline, He wanted to reset it, to take control and beat back the human for good. But he couldn’t reset and living with the knowledge he’d ended all of their lives including Phantom’s for nothing? made him snap. So even now he fears failing and gets incredibly frustrated if he can’t figure something out.

- Dust has a small lab that’s all to himself in nightmare’s castle and it’s hidden behind one of the library bookcases that slides back to let him in, It’s not uncommon for him to spend hours in there, tinkering around.

- Eventually nightmare and his boys do end up in a poly relationship and those apart of it will receive a full apple from Nightmare, One each to bond with their souls (or in some ways serve as their ‘new’ soul) and makes Killer, Dust and Axe immortal. Tying them eternally to nightmare’s own life force and maybe even beyond, This wasn’t even nightmare’s idea, It was the boys who convinced him of the idea so that they as mortals would never have to leave his side.

His voice was a low, deep growl against her boney throat, a rumbling purr from his chest as he held her on his lap. One of the few places he could have enough control not to hurt her, after all it was common knowledge that axe was huge and ellie was rather small, he’d always liked em’ on the shorter side though (After all. dust was one of his favorites for a reason-), Large clawed hands gentle but firm on her hips so she couldn’ try to wiggle down further in her eagerness. Not to count the fact that Axe couldn’t breed anyone due to the unique nature of his magic and how faulty it was but he could always pretend. Especially if that’s what she wanted, There was something so damn tempting about seeing himself (If a little blurrily-) half slotted inside her cute pink ecto. Slit stretched tight around him.

“What do y’think Cocoa..~ should i?”

It was equally as fun to see how killer was enjoying the show (Since he usually needed a spark of magic from one of the others to ‘summon’ so to speak, besides he liked to share-), hands having them cupping Ellie’s breasts, Bright red and cyan tongue trailing one of her pert nipples though he took a moment to consider. his pale, barely visible white ringed eye lights looking her up and down.

“Bet she’d look pretty fuckin’ cute all plugged up big guy and you heard the lady, She wants it, We’ll have t’see if you can get all the way in first, y’know. T’make sure it works.”

Here’s more headcannons for the castle boys, This time it’s the posted on discord edition, Some relationship stuff, some for the private eye AU (Which is basically a multiverse at this point)

All of the boy obviously consider themselves all in a poly relationship with each other (this is verse dependent of course but generally speaking!!) and while they are all the most close knit with living together, Considering kids, etc. The boys also have other people outside of this close knit group that they are individually close to that the other's of the squad are not and don't want to be outside what could be seen as a friendly acquaintance.

- Killer is super fond of Stardust (Outertale Sans) and they go on dates pretty often in Stardust's world, Considering him and Stardust's brother a second family.

- Axe is very much in love with Sticks (Farmtale sans) after he ended up lost for a couple of months after a battle against the star sanses and landed in Farmtale injured and was carefully attended to until NM eventually found him and visits him often

- Dust has had a blooming crush on Cherry (UF Sans) for a while and just, gets shy cause he has no idea how to talk to him properly??, but he's also tentatively tried a relationship with sticks as well once Axe started bringing him with on some of his visits. Which really isn't surprising since Axe and Dust tend to share

- Mulberry hasn't had much time to acclimate but he's pretty happy about suddenly having what was basically no life to living in a castle, being able to do what he wants and getting a few boyfriends?? like this is great? and he's grown pretty fond of UL Sans (Yarn) since he's helping him to grow more confident.

meanwhile nightmare doesn't really explore for obvious reasons most of the time, he's just vibin' and is happy his boys are happy

Nightmare: - Prodigal son of his mother, Was on a fast track to becoming a lawyer for some high profile firm, Rich boy™️, was secretly abused for years by a few of her business partners but he could never talk about it happening or get help because it'd be a heavy hit to his mother's business if they pulled out of working with her and they were to rich to ever face true punishment for their crimes.

- He and dream are heavily estranged because nightmare has some very supreme jealously issues towards him, the fact that dream wasn't as smart so they didn't put the same pressure on him, he didn't suffer the same abuse and got to live the life he wanted and not the life his mother wanted for him while also getting to reap the benefits of being the son of the rich and powerful, people just loved dream. His positive energy and attitude making it easy to make friends while people feared nightmare even as a young one because he was closed off and angry (For good reason)

- Eventually snapped some time after inheriting her business as a youngish adult and his magic corrupted, slowly leaking out of his breaking body, Becoming the corruption that now covers his form entirely which was a very slow process unlike the actual corruption in his OG story, His magic is terminal and one day it will kill him but until that day comes, Staved off only by taking 'negativity' (a cocktail of mostly experimental drugs) and sheer spite, His mother's business is still owned by him but used as mostly a front for all of his deeper illegal activities but he is genuinely trying to make the inner city a better place.

Killer: - Had a pretty average life before he got married to his then partner Chara, a human despite his families protests that they were 'bad news', He was in love, he didn't want to believe them and ended up cut off from most of them as a result as They convinced him that they weren't supportive, that they didn't care about his happiness, that they could do it on their own and slowly over time they grew worse and worse towards him, Leading to actual abuse. It was only after they 'accidentally' poisoned his younger brother with a fatal allergy of his by sneaking it into some of his food and he died as a result that Killer finally had enough and left them

- It doesn't end there though because of course it doesn't, His family wanted nothing to do with him, his brother was dead and divorce leaned so heavily onto Chara's side that he was left with nothing besides the clothes on his back but they weren't done with him yet so they hired a few people to rough him up. Aka, they hired people to torture and possibly kill him so he disappeared and spent a month in the worst agony of his life, physical, mental. Bad enough that his soul essentially rejected itself from his body which is why it now floats outside of his ribcage, the only thing that saved him was nightmare breaking up the unwanted activity in his then small territory and found killer there. Damaged and broken, Nearly dusted.

- Nightmare took him in and had his own personal team of doctors (Including my baby bean vita because i love her) attend to his wounds and try to just keep him alive. Getting this poor skeleton into some therapy once he was awake enough to talk semi-coherently and attended to his ex-partner problem (Haha murder go brrr) and Killer just. never left ?? becoming apart of his crew and inevitably his right hand man. -- Axe: - Used to work as a butcher full time from a pretty early age to support his brother, Still does it part time and is a fantastic cook, but he suffered a break in one night and with it. They beat his head in despite him being a pretty strong and large skeleton at the time. Leaving him with a few issues, He was saved but only at the cost of some pretty strong medicine that replaces his magic (Determination) and that became very expensive. Unable to buy both that and help put his younger sibling through college but without it he'd die.

- It was Nightmare who heard his plight, Arguing with doctors to see if there was anything he could do to get it even a little cheaper, that please, he needed to help his brother. He needed him and Nightmare offered him a proposition when he exited the hospital, He and his business would become his as long as he worked for him so Axe accepted and nightmare helps pay for both Axe's medicine and Axe's brother's college who is none the wiser of the type of person axe is currently working for. Axe actually fell into the job pretty easily, Sometimes he just has to butcher other types of meat that don't get served to anyone :)

Dust: - Mentally ill, Lost his brother due to a sudden car accident that only he survived and it absolutely fucked with him beyond any reason, the sheer amount of guilt because his brother was the good one, he was the golden child. Their parents loved him beyond a doubt and in the end, they ended up with Dust who while smart was terribly antisocial and suffering from anxiety in most situations and that wasn't good enough for their higher end life style.

- He was kicked out as his parents couldn't handle seeing him near them when their favorite son was dead and he couldn't afford the meds he needed so he went further and further off the deep end, Spending a few months locked in a Asylum which really only made things exponentially worse (this is when he started seeing his brother floating around him and 'talking' to him, blaming him for what happened), Obviously he could never hold a job once he got out and occasionally murdered people on the streets as he was homeless and was barely aware of his surroundings.

- Got picked up by Nightmare like dust was a feral animal and after trying to figure out who he was, What he needed, etc and a lot and i mean a lot of therapy. Dust has...mostly adjusted to living inside nightmare's mansion. also i lied, it ended up being longer then i thought

‘Mm havin’ mulberry help mm’ write this because i can’t see very well but he said it might help with organizing some my memories, he said he did something similar with his brother. We’re both broken skulls so i guess it makes sense, Different sides though. Kinda interestin’ how it makes our behavior differ.’

‘but yeah, yeah, this is about Ellie. she’s a sweetheart although on first glance and for my sake, let’s hope she never reads this, She reminded me of Aliza...Bow and all. Bout as stubborn to, I’ll admit it. Messed me up at first, It was a bit uncanny valley i guess? less scratched up and broken though, I almost asked how she grew her arm back, how she was still alive...but...i didn’t. Some of my old urges from my timeline had resurfaced after i’d seen her, Night took care o’ it...after all, she wasn’ really human, Even if she looked the part.’

‘...it’s easier now that she’s a skeleton, i’ll never tell her that, but i had to get it down. mm’ memory isn’t great.’

Ellie has left some Gyftmas presents for the boys! For Axe, she got him a new mixer. Killer was given a beautifully decorated knife. Mulberry had been given a hand-knitted scarf and matching gloves. Dust was given some equipment and notebooks for his lab. Nightmare was given two gifts. One was a bunch of books of various fairytales and human legends and myths; for his birthday, while his Gyftmas present was a beautiful black rose in a glass container that shines in the moonlight.

I've been thinking about the bad boy squad™️, All NSFW HC’s are under the cut, everything else is just general stuff that i’ve been hoarding on my lil’ discord server/in dms

- Nightmare is an empath, more tuned to negativity of any kind due to his unique soul and role as a guardian rather then being a true monster but he's had quite a few years to learn to read positive emotions to and as a result is uniquely aware of all his boys and how they are feeling. He'll check up on them or summon them to his office for one on one time if their usual range negativity gets worse.

- Having as much LV as all of his boys do, there's a certain itch that comes with it, brewing negativity that stuff like murder can only hold back for so long before it grows unbearable on a monsters soul and makes them lash out, nightmare can and will drain a soul of it's built up malicious intent from LV, both feeding on the energy himself and leaving the other monster feeling hollow and weak for a few days, emotionally vulnerable, he doesn't like doing this and is very attentive of caring for any of his boys he's recently drained

- Nightmare is super touchy, whether it be a wandering tentacle picking up on a subconscious want of his (since they can and will act on their own Accord, his fine tuned control of them is hard won) or a hand on someone's shoulder or stroking over someone's back. None of them are quite sure if it's a display of power, a way of providing a calming, grounding presence or both.

- Only nightmare is able to touch killers soul without upsetting him and is very soft about it, often seen gently stroking it or cradling it within' his tentacles to make him relax

- Nightmare and killer share a room, have since nearly the very beginning since he didn't sleep well alone, still doesn't with how easy it is to trick a wandering mind that the wall shadows in the corners held unknown danger. So they share, sometimes the other boys join in to but nightmare is rarely alone in his bed.

- When nightmare accepts someone’s loyalty to him, It’s a surprisingly private affair, He does not force their loyalty. He earns it, After all a truly loyal subject is far less likely to stab him in the back, He has them get one knee, Bowing their head in front of his throne, like a new knight to a king or queen and offering them the black apple that serves as his soul to take a single bite, Only a bite as large as they are willing to take. It does not hurt him when someone bites into it and the marks will fade into scars, There’s three of these scars currently, Biting into the soul is overwhelming for the one taking the bite and he has always had to catch his new pledge as they collapse. He will gently cradle his new pledge and sooth them into a dreamless sleep while the piece of soul does it’s work, granting them some of his durability, They are no longer affected by his aura of negativity, They can jump through timeline’s now at their leisure and carry around a tiny portion of nightmare’s darkness. They are his and he is theirs forevermore

- Killer took the largest bite out of the three who have pledged so far, He is his right hand and his magic is perfectly split between Cyan and Red.

- Nightmare’s body being based off of US!Sans means just like dream, when he’s happy and not paying attention, he laughs in the same Mweh heh heh way that blue would, Yes it’s soft, yes his boys love when he does it.

- Nightmare is 99% of the time a top, guiding with a firm hand, quiet commands and gentle rewarding touches, after all he is their king and it's only right they follow his beck and call readily and with comfortable ease. If he does sub then he needs a bit of help getting into a subspace first and whoever's doing it needs to be gentle, otherwise his tentacles lash out aggressively, should be pampered readily after since it's overwhelming for him.

- Nobody has had sex with him without the corruption covering him since being uncovered means he's hurt, vulnerable or both. It'd take a lot of effort since his host body is extremely frail, very sensitive and can't be handled roughly, parts of him are more very likely to break off if you aren't mindful.

- Axe's magic is damaged and broken so while he can get aroused, the magic usually coalesces in a unformed mess in his pelvis with no true shape and usually needs the help of someone else to spark it with their magic to force it to form something.

- Axe is extra attentive when he's with someone, holding them up real close to his chest. Maybe spread legged on his lap, he's a monster of few words yet murmuring real sweetly about how good your doing for him, he's very much of the opinion that every part of someone should be twitching and content before he's done with em'

- Dust is super submissive and rarely tops, partially because he's worried he'll hurt someone and spaces out oftenish so you gotta be gentle and patient but he uses sex as a decent way to get the voices to shut up for a bit (aside from phantoms who respectfully clears out for a bit). His favorite is axe or killer for this reason.

- And mulberry is everyone's favorite because he's soft, sweet and will give you a praise kink till the end of your days.

But in these moments, He also felt the most like himself in times like these, Like he was almost normal again and not trapped in a body that felt foreign to him. It made him less hungry to. To focus on something else, Anything else besides food (Made especially difficult whenever he had to unstring a now deceased human who’d gotten stuck in one of his early traps-)

For once, it made him miss the approaching crunch of footsteps in the snow.
