DT17 Anniversary Posting
So I've heard around the cafeteria that there's a theme for today centered around people's favorite episodes. Well, I don't have [a] favorite episode. But I can narrow it down to 1 per season, so let's go with that.
(P.S. if you were tagged in this post it's because I gave you cool people a shoutout at the end.)
S1: The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I first watched this show, this episode was the one where I realized things were serious. This wasn't just a funny duck show. It's definitely still funny and a duck show, but it's so much more than that.
On Disney+, this episode comes right after Lena is possessed by Magica, so my mind was 100% on that heading in. Instead, we got the resolution to Dewey's arc and the mystery of Della Duck... or so we thought!
Sure, we found out Della's fate, but that was almost secondary to the family drama, especially between Dewey and Scrooge. It's very intense, and even when we get the answers we're looking for, the questions all change.
I don't need to explain why this episode is good. It just is. The fact that I picked this episode, and not a Lena-centric one, shows how good it is.
S2: A Nightmare on Killmotor Hill!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright fine. One Lena episode.
After Lena was brought back in "Friendship Hates Magic!", the question was, where do we go from here? I think they handled it very well, integrating her back into the kids' friend group while still letting the effects of Magica's abuse linger on.
I really enjoy the idea of characters' dreams showing their deepest fears and desires. The kind of stuff they would otherwise stash away when they're awake. This episode took that concept and sprinted with it.
I still think we ought to have had more sleepover episodes with all of the kiddos. When everybody is fighting for screen time in Season 3, this episode shows how you can balance several characters at once, even if Lena was the one getting the majority of the attention. The "Swanstantine" episode is another good example of this.
I mean, come on. We got Webby dressing herself up as Scrooge McDuck as soon as she realized she could do whatever she wanted. It was foreshadowed from the beginning!
S3: Astro B.O.Y.D.!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've talked about this one before. It's one of my favorite pieces of autism rep. Boyd's journey in this episode really resonated, as well as his relationship with Huey.
In my opinion, the best part about it is how Huey relates to Boyd. Specifically not because he's a robot, but how Huey sees him as just a kid, just like him. The robot part is more of a neat quirk than anything. He's wired differently, literally, but they deserve a chance to be themselves.
And I appreciate how "Astro-B.O.Y.D!" gives Boyd a purpose as a character. I thought the bit in the Doofus episode where the villains try to pull the same con as Louie was fun, but Boyd didn't feel like much of a character, or at least no more of one than Sharkbomb was.
So "Astro-B.O.Y.D!" takes a character that very well could have had a one-off bit role, and made him something special. Made him somebody that a viewer can relate to, just as Huey did in the episode. Even just for 22 minutes, Boyd felt special. I felt special. I felt seen.
So yeah, that's my three. The fact that I can sit here and ramble about a half-decade old show that ended before I found it, is really cool. I'm so glad to have the chance to hang out with everybody here, whether we're discussing the best show in the history of time or doing literally anything else.
Shoutout to the people rallying the troops for today's anniversary... @secret-tester @justaboot @alexcanine @boingodigitalart @yeyeducks @cookieruby @the-richest-duck ... and to everyone else who's participated not just today but any day. We wouldn't be a community without the fine folks in it.

Recently rewatched Last Crash of the Sunchaser again and uh. Accidentally teared up at the end.
Anyways its SUCH a great episode. There are literally only three things I'd change abt it
1. Change the ending outro song to no sound at all. If they can change the outro for episodes like Who is Gizmoduck, they couldve done it here as well. Since as it is, its a big mood whiplash.
2.Have Donald be with them when Scrooge reveals the truth abt Della. Literally for the love of me I do not get WHY you wouldnt have Donald be an important role in the episode where the Della plotline is finally revealed. Instead he just sighs at the end, not reacting too badly abt the fact that his nephews know abt what happened.
3. This ones just a nitpick, but remove the joke where Launchpad asks Dewey if he should pause the Darkwing duck credits for him. I don't usually mind Launchoad being used for dumb jokes, but this one almost killed the mood for such an incredibly dramatic scene.
As is, this is still the best penultimate episode of the series. 9/10

The Last Crash Of The Sunchaser is heartbroken as it is. Can you imagine if it had the animation quality that we have for season 3 and, let's say- Gosalyn destroying the portal scene?
Ohhh, mannn. The animation for Last Crash is one reasons why that episode, especially its third act, was so powerful. If it had the same level of quality as season 3, that would really make those moments even more intense and heartbreaking! 😭 IMAGINE if certain moments from the episode were animated by Khion!

MASSACRE ROUND FINALISTS: DUCK VS. SCROOGE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Submitters say:
"I have never seen Duck being called an anthro but I think it would be funny if a puppet was on this list (plus he fits the criteria methinks). He almost never wins a poll and it's become a running joke in the fandom and I think we should continue this trend (or break it idk)." (Duck)
"He may be a literal adventure capitalist but somehow still very likable lol. Also the end of the episode from the 2017 DuckTales reboot The Last Crash of the Sunchaser made me cry over him. Also he's voiced by David Tennant in the reboot!!!! How cool is that!!! The 2017 version is my favorite" (Scrooge)
THE POLL WILL LAST 24 HOURS. If they manage to tie again they will form a team and move on together.

One of the interesting things about how Webby was written is that even though she spent the entire first season trying her best to fit into the family, she didn't feel the least bit left out or doubtful if she still belonged after Della returned in season 2!
Because by that time, she already knew her place in the family was cemented and she felt confident that she was part of it. She knew she already earned her spot in it.
It would have totally made sense for Webby to feel like an interloper after the great Della Duck returned to the Ducks' lives, and I can honestly see her thinking back to Scrooge's harsh words in 'The Last Crash of the Sunchaser' ("You are not family!") and really letting them sink in for the first time. It would have made for some interesting drama and hurt/comfort.
But they didn't go there. And I just think that's so cool.
The closest they came was in 'The Golden Armory of Cornelius Coot', where Webby was so desperate to find Coot's treasure- the one mystery that even the great Della couldn't find- because she wanted so badly to measure up to her legacy. And she shared a wonderful scene with Della, where Della assured her she didn't have to measure up to her and that being herself was enough. That Webby was enough. And that honestly felt more than sufficient.

How “The Last Crash of the Sunchaser” Parallels the Story of Della’s Crash
Tumblr media
this is my second dissertation.
I would like a PHD in Ducktales lore now.
first up we need to set up the players in this game (rather, who the characters “equivalent”/role in either end of the story are)
Donald=Beakley, sometimes all three of the triplets.
Scrooge. Scrooge is himself in both parallels.
Della=Dewey.
Tumblr media
so the story of Della’s crash goes as follows:
Scrooge, as a present, decides to go ahead and build an experimental rocket ship for the mother-to-be-Della
he does this behind Donald’s, the voice of reason, back
Della takes the ship early and crashes herself on the moon, which effectively makes her seem dead.
Tumblr media
while the story in “The Last Crash of the Sunchaser” goes like this:
Scrooge repeatedly ignores all reason and puts the kids in more and more danger
this defies Beakley’s heavy suggestion for more safety precautions
Dewey almost gets himself killed because he fervently goes after the last piece of the puzzle, and because Scrooge was not more careful on their flight
Tumblr media
do u see what I mean now? the two different stories very much mirror each other
Scrooge is still going against what should be his better judgement. He builds a rocket; he crashes the Sunchaser.
and ultimately, this mistake and trauma in his past leads his family leaving him again, like Donald left
in this way, the rest of his family is parallel with Donald’s reaction to loosing Della:
Donald blames Scrooge for loosing his sister. the boys blame Scrooge for loosing their mom.
the generational cycle repeats itself
