My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S03E01 (“New World Map”)
(Safe to read for anime-only folks.)
My thoughts after watching Season Three, Episode One:
01. The first two lines we ever hear in this season, THIS season, is Senku saying, "This scenery takes me back. I'm absolutely bawling" while he and the others are flying to Ishigami Village. Which I'm SURE is a direct reference to when he stood over Byakuya's grave, said "this takes me back," and cried the very first tear we've ever seen Senku shed... at his father's, Ishigami Byakuya's, grave :') Very, very well-done already, and it's only been two lines so far! :O
02. Chrome is NOT willing to let Ryusui have his village, haha! XD
03. I know Senku was looking to the side probably because he rope helped him navigate the balloon downwards, and stuff... but Chrome tossed the rope to Kohaku, so he should be looking somewhere in her direction, and I'm gonna choose to believe he was looking right at her! :D
04. The production quality in this first scene is top-notch! And of course we're getting a short clips show :) It's pretty cool to see what Ryusui was doing right before he was petrified! :O
05. The kids and adults are so excited to see Senku! :) He even has a hand on a little girl's head, and he's smiling; aww! :D And another little girl asked him to play, AND he said agreed! That is so sweet! :) I HAVE to remember this for my fanfic! :D
06. Apparently, "Come. We'll show you around Ishigami Village," is Kohaku code for, "Come, I'm going to give you a walking tour of why Senku's so awesome" XD
07. He has a globe in his laboratory... that's a nice detail! Something else I can use in my fanfic! :)
08. Ryusui teleported from the laboratory to the shed of science XD
09. What's Ginro holding in his right hand? Is it a tool for smoothing the wood? :O
10. A ship building team and an oil searching team, both working towards the goal of sailing and finding out the truth behind the petrification! :)
11. I must say, I'm not feeling the opening song of Dr. Stone: New World. It's too fast for me, and it doesn't help that I don't know the English translation of the lyrics yet, so it doesn't have any personal meaning for me, although of course I like seeing my favorite characters, and certain new characters that will be introduced later on in the season :) ...Well, except that big hat guy. I know his name, but I don't like him... -_-
12. The second-to-the-last shot of the OP is really nice. At the end of the previous seasons' three OPs, Senku was always, always alone. But in this season's OP, he's with so many people - Suika, Kohaku, Ukyo, Kinro, Ginro, Gen, Nikki, Ryusui, Francois, Kaseki, Yuzuriha, Chrome, Yo, and Taiju. He really, truly isn't alone anymore - he has friends by his side :)
13. Ah, the title of the first episode of Season Three... New World Map! :) And the title is on paper now! :D
14. It is so cool that they have enough metal now that they can use some of it on things that aren't vital to their scientific goals, but are just little things that make life a bit better, like those metal food covers! :)
15. Ryusui... what you're imagining ain't what you're getting... XD
16. Grilled fish, grilled fish soup, grilled fish salad, grilled fish desert, grilled fish... something XD Small fishes inside big fishes! :O
17. Small detail, but I like that Senku addresses Jasper and Turquoise by name :) I suppose it's too bad that they... WEREN'T attacked? XD
18. Ryusui is SO determined to find food! XD Poor guy... And Senku's being quite encouraging! :D
19. Kohaku! ^_^ Kohaku's flying!! Yay! :D She's so happy and thrilled! AND prepared; she has her sword and new shield on her even though she's hanging from a hot-air balloon! :O
20. Senku casually said she should stop freaking out like a child, but he looks pleased AND he called her "lioness!" Ah, it's been WAY too long... :) Kohaku noticed, too! :D
21. Finally, a shot with just Senku and Kohaku! They're talking about the possibility of finding oil :)
22. I wonder why that forest stood out to Kohaku? She's seen a lot of forests, and even on the hot-air balloon, she would have seen bunch of trees already. Maybe cedar is rare for the villagers? Or maybe something about how the trees looked made her think they were noteworthy or useful? :O
23. High-quality animation AND new graphics - they're really showing what they've got in this first episode! :D
24. First, Kohaku and Chrome worked as a team to find the cedar forest, and then Ryusui and Ukyo worked as a team to find that feral goat herd. And the way he showed genuine respect and care to that goat was so Ukyo :)
25. But... are they supposed to let the blood out in the water like that? I thought you weren't supposed to do that because the bacteria would go into the water and negatively affect the fish there... or maybe that's just for guts and innards and stuff, but not blood? Or maybe that's just when it comes to fish? Don't know... :O
26. Sigh, Senku writing and Kohaku pointing, with Chrome and Ukyo and Ryusui, making a map of the new world together... :) It's so nice to see this in detail and color! :D
27. The villagers were impressed by the map! :) Although, Ryusui, you could have been more tactful; I'm sure the villagers would have also liked more variety in their diet... -_-
28. This is the second time we've seen that particular elderly woman show her relief that nobody will starve to death anymore... poor woman... :( And something I hadn't considered was that anime lends room for empathy when it comes to voices. Turquoise said pretty much the same thing to the world woman, but it seemed more dismissive/annoyed to me in the manga and more empathetic in the anime :)
29. Ah, so the village was a lot bigger before Kohaku was born, but a lack of food one year meant a lot of people died, including Turquoise's family... :(
30. Uh, this "plants enslaving humanity" angle is new to me... XD
31. Oh, Kohaku might not know about currency yet, haha! Oooh, she found golden foxtail... or wheat! :D
32. They're going to their own food, by themselves! :)
33. Slash, slash, slash, goes Kohaku on the golden foxtail, just like she did on the green foxtail! :D
34. I love how Kohaku's hopping easily with at eight bundles of wheat, Chrome is carrying two with one arm, and Senku is using both his arms but is still struggling and walking slower than Chrome with just one bundle XD
35. I really like that they included Kohaku's special attack move question AND animated it a bit! :D
36. Kohaku seriously just loves to, like, all-out brag about Senku and/or science XD She did it in Season One with Kokuyou; in Season Two with Hyoga; and this season with Ryusui earlier AND with Nikki, Yuzuriha, Magma, Taiju, Gen, and Ginro now XD
37. Awesome detail that Yo's farm sign has writing and Magma's farm sign has a sketch of his face :D And even though they're rivals, they seem to be pals too, taking breaks in the afternoon and resting at night together like that :)
38. Yuzuriha has insight into why Taiju is the way he is; Taiju talked about his past... :) And I really like that Gen had his head bowed in honor of Taiju's words :) Also, about the petrification... uh... um... what about the- wait, actually, note to self: talk about this thing in the future when it won't be as spoilery XD
39. Taiju's farm looks so green and plentiful, and Yo and Magma's farms... have a few sprouts? XD Very cool that Taiju remembered what Senku said about seashells all the way from the first part of Season One :D
40. Senku looks proud and happy that Taiju remembered his words, and Magma and Yo look proud and happy that their farms prospered after they did what Taiju did! :)
41. And even though the latter two aren't thrilled about it, they're still in the crowd that gives Taiju the straw hat of the farming/food king! :D I like that Taiju bent his head so that Yuzuriha could put it on him, like he really was being crowned :)
42. Even Senku acknowledged Taiju as the food king! :D
43. Whoa, a couple of seasons passed and the wheat ripened, just like that! :O
44. Also not feeling this ending song, although I do appreciate that there are some English lines. Are the circle thingies related to chemistry, and elements and protons and electrons and stuff? And maybe I'll like it more if I understand the lyrics; I should look them up! :)
45. Sigh, I dislike the lack of Kohaku in the ED, but I do understand, the five wise generals and all that :D
46. Ooh, they have an brick baking oven now! :) Senku's clearly unprofessionally baked bread looks like... that... but Kohaku genuinely likes that it's like a rock and has a fun, crumbly texture :D (Or... stone? Haha! XD) And Chrome and Turquoise and the elderly man who believed in Senku in Season Two like the burnt bread as well! :)
47. Ah, so Ukyo learned that about food in the Self-Defense Force survival exercises... :O And Yo, you do NOT need to be jealous... XD
48. Senku and Ryusui are united in their resolve: They MUST revive a professional chef! :D
49. So ends the first episode about Dr. Stone's Age of Discovery! :) A triumphant arrival in Ishigami Village; reuniting with Kohaku and other old friends; making a new world map; looking for resources; the rediscovery of agriculture; the crowning of the kingdom of science's food king; a bread baking experiment that was very successful for some but not successful at all for others... and a new goal for the latest required skill set for the kingdom of science! :D
50. I'm so glad that I'm finally watching Season Three - my own goal is to finish watching all the available episodes before the second part of the season starts airing in October 2023! :)

Ey? So Gentle is basically Luffy, only he can do stuff with air too.
“Tokoyami, it’s in lesson 3.”
Eizouken 10
LOL, you can see a name similar to “Rachel Enyoung Choi” in one of the credit lists. Update: Euyoung Choi is credited on one of the other folders.
“Kanamoney” is catching on, I see.
“Well, dough.” - Sarasoju, where soju is some alcoholic Korean beverage.
The back of the clock reminds me of that Skipper and Skeeto game I used to play.
Did Kanamori get a fringe cut…?
You can see the symbol for Eizouken on the (imaginary…?) warehouse.
Uchitama 9
The video got encoded funny again…
I‘ve heard of AIBOs before. They’re robotic dogs, although with newfangled drones, Google Nests and stuff, they went out of fashion years ago.
Aibou (with kanji) means “partner”, come to think of it...
While everyone else is talking in the foreground, I’m staring at Beh in the background…
Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve seen Kuro and Nora interact all that much.
Natsuki Hanae as Leo, huh?
Uchitama 10
Second-last episode!
Neko (cat) -> Koma -> ari (ant)…isu (chair) -> suika (watermelon) -> tamago (egg, or sometimes it sounds like tabako/tabacco to me) -> ??? -> koi (carp) -> ???? “Kooten” seems to be a nonsense word.
The video got encoded funny again…
…and that’s twice now…
LOL, this is based on Millionaire.
…thrice…
The original quote is (something like), “It is said that heaven does not create one man above or below another man.” (Yukichi Fukuzawa)
The answer was C, obviously.
…4 times.
Bull does his best Thinker impression.
Oh my gosh, they’re bringing that joke back…? (LOL) Update: The portal joke.
“chunk of meat” – Uh…what?
Holy s***! It’s Bull’s dad! Bull time travelled!
Magia Record 8
I like how the anime introduced Gomakashi, then had the proper OP.
Chuo Ward (Chuoku)? In Hypnosis Mic, that’s a sign Ayappe is definitely a girl…but this ain’t HypMic, so no worries!
The greeting is “Kamihama” because it sounds kind of like konbanwa and the host is Mr Hammer because that sounds like the back half of Kamihama, I guess.
Magia Record seems more overt about its lesbian undertones, I see.
I noticed a piano on a poster in the back. Wonder what that means…?
Just reading translations of radio transcripts like this makes me think of the HypMic radio show. I’ve been using that (and all of HypMic, to be honest) to cope in these tough (COVID-19) times, which is why I’m mentioning it a lot.
Mami!
Eizouken 11
So this is how they met, huh? I never knew Kanamori could have such little faith in people, considering how she is now.
ID:INVADED 12
What I don’t get is Hayaseura’s motive…
Uraido…”from behind”? I need kanji to figure this one out…
Whose well is this Bliss background, ayway…?
Momoki and Matsuoka pass a sign saying 大井南 (Minamioi), which is in Shinagawa.
Why does Momoki need drugs…? To subdue Asukai…?
Oh no. Inami is going to have a vendetta after her man was killed!
According to Ramuda, the optimist sees the doughnut, the pessimist sees the hole…I think’s that’s important for that moment.
…Welp, when a hole in the brain doesn’t kill you, a shot to the stomach does.
In this time of COVID-19, I think talking about people coming back to life is inappropriate…
Post-credits segment!
Uchitama 11 (FINAL)
According to Ramuda, the optimist sees the doughnut, the pessimist sees the hole…
“Tullip” (sic).
Oh, so instead of “Tama” it said “tanu___”, so the kids assumed it said “tanuki”.
Ooh, cat meeting. This should match the dog meeting from earlir in the season. Plus Nora’s face on the title card.
The video got encoded funny again…
“I’m busy right now.” – Nora, sleeping – Yup, that’s my mood. In fact, I was woken up by a call this morning…
I still think the Momo x Bull ship is stupid…
Nora can talk to crows…?
BnHA 85
…huh? What’s up with Bibimi?
Oh, in La Brava’s room there’s a graduation album. No one translated that.
Seriously, Deku’s gotten kinda creepy these days…
Tobita = essentially “to fly” + “field”. Makes sense when the Quirk is elasticity.
“It’s dangerous to go alone!” – I want to reply with “Take this!”…LOL.
This bouncing around thing was basically done by Sonic in OPM.
Update:  Turns out the kanji for elasticity is read dansei, which is th same rading for the characters for a man (but with characters meaning “male gender” instead and the last kanji being shared betwe the two). That’s why Danjuro is Gentle Criminal.
BnHA 85
I noticed some of the decorations around the school look like heroes we’ve seen – there’s a Midnight one and a Thirteen balloon.
Why is the crowd chanting for YaoMomo…?
It’s in English, huh?
End of credits segment! Keep watching!
“Guys like you who say there are no do-overs in life…”
Hawks! This is the first time I see him outside spoilers!
ID:INVADED 13 (FINAL)
Was gonna finish this the day I got it, but I got access (limited to 1 week)…to Akira, which is a movie I’ve never seen before.
The sharks are a nice touch…(LOL…?)
Welp, John Walker has his hat back now.
Uraido…Hayaseura. Of course, how the heck did I not make the connection?!
The video got encoded funny again…
…wow, after learning a thing or two about CPR, this part actually makes sense to me now…Amazing. (Also, I learnt about comminuted fractures from Double Decker.)
COVID-19 is entering these notes too…because if you cut yourself off from society, you won’t know about pandemics…
Why do I get the feeling Kiki’s gonna kill herself…?
She…almost did it. (Wow, I should try predict things more often.)
That pool…is basically the one from Minority Report!
Wow, that just did an Eva…
Why did they choose such a lively ending song…? Anyways, that wrapped up really well (no pun intended!). See you next time!
Magia Record 9
The tower appars to be modelled more after Tsutenkaku rather than Tokyo Tower.
For some reason, the subbers like to capitalise “Magical Girl”.
One of the speech bubbles in the back says koneko no gorogoro, or “the cat’s laziness”.
“Stand alone!” This is probably some kind of wordplay on the Solitude (Hitoribocchi no Saihate), since “alone” is hitori de.
Interestingly, the word for “delete” here is keshite (literal meaning: “to erase”).
The sign that passes Sana by while she’s on the boat says “Futaba” on it.
The blue letterboxing is an interesting effect.
“Sorpredente” = surprising.
Eizouken 12 (FINAL)
“They have their own business to run.”
I’ll miss this OP song when it’s gone…*sigh*
LOL, the contrast between Asakusa’s imagination and reality is huge and that’s what makes Eizouken so fun.
“I’m here to deliver the promised data,” Kanamori says (which I think is a more literal translation, ut works better).
It’s unfortunate Comiket 98 was cancelled…
Hey, why didn’t Anime vs. Real Life cover Eizouken?! That would’ve been so good!
I noticed one of the viewers had a “No Disc” pop-up of some sort. Also, the moving logo exists now, too (LOL).
I like how 1 of the UFOs hits the windshield.
The arrows really bring your attention to what’s the same in the split screens.
Magia Record 10
The Mifuyu in the previous episodes was either a flashback or a fantasy, right?
Mami is wearing a Wings of Magius badge…!
On the titlecard, there’s what seems to be a radio tower with a small lightning bolt above it.
BnHA 86
Hey, Tsu has a sister..?
Ah,so this is Mirko! I’ve heard of her too!
Is it just me, or does Endeavour hav CGI on him…?
Hawks reminds me of Fubuki from OPM…
Wow, even Endeavour’s trying to be funny…the world really is different now. (This humour has a terrible success rate with me, though.)
There seem to be holes in Hawks’ jackt for his wings.
So basically, Hawks is being the Iori to Endeavour’s Riku (but without too much of the homoerotic overtones that come from being close in age, since Endeavour is 46 – 7 and Hawks is 22), so to speak.
Oh! That punch is based on All Might’s! Same framing and everything!
Hajimari no doesn’t suggest a pronoun, so they must have chosen that based on the manga or the production company or something.
Magia Record 11
Shaft headtilt!
This Witch…apparently it appears early on in the OG series according to This Week in Anime. It does give off that vibe.
…wow, that fight was fast.
The video got encoded funny again…
Why are all the magical girls Naruto running???
Hachibey = Kyubey (where kyu = 9), but for 8.
ACCA OVA
Who’s this-oh, never mind.
I don’t remember the OST being so…cool.
Jumo, where ju = tree I guss.
Nino! Who’s the blonde though? I forget…
Jumo for Jumoku…right. I forgot.
Shinro, literally “path of advancement”. I’ve grown a lot since I last watched ACCA, but I only feel I’ve gotten dumber since then…to be honest.
I like how the flashback is saturated in blue…actually, that reminds me of Given, now that I think of it.
Where’s Grossular? I liked him the best because he’s basically older!Kyosuke Kuga. Update: Spoke too soon.
Now that I’ve learnt keigo between the OG and now, I can understand more of what Mauve says.
Magia Record 12
(no notes, sorry!)
Magia Record 13 (FINAL)
Is it just me, or can I see a feather-like object floating down the screen…? (Or is that static?)
You can see one of the hooded Wings (on Touka’s left) has dark blue hair – roughly Sayaka’s shade.
Ooh, Mami and Sayaka fight! (I’ve never been one for catfights, but this is certainly a match-up I want to see!)
Mami’s fate really sucks, huh? Her head came off in the OG and now she’s a tool for the Magius…
Yachiyo does look a lot like Togo from Yuki Yuna, doesn’t she…?
Anyways, this is all for now. There’s an s2 on the horizon, but COVID-19 means it could be years down the line…see you when s2 arrives.

On Fridays I watch Dr. Stone and Fire Force so this Friday was just chalk full of Fire and Fury! I’m not sure if it’s a weird combo. I feel like not that many people are watching both of these even if they do have a lot of elements in common.
I went off on a little tangent there. I promise the review will be a bit more focused and I’ll even stick to Dr. Stone. Well I’ll try. O.K. let’s see how I do!
What I thought Would Happen
I figured it would go one of two ways, either Hyoga was going to hightail it back to the Kingdom of Might and we would finally see what exactly Tsukasa has been up to for all this time OR Senku and the gang would somehow manage to capture him and once again, we would be left with only one side of the story.
I’m not sure which I was hoping for. I was super curious about the kingdom of might but at the same time, the tight singular focus on Senku and his point of view has been great for keeping the narrative on track and me on my toes.
What Did Happen
OK, now that I really think about it, I’m not sure how Senku was supposed to take Hyoga hostage but  he’s a smart guy, he could have figured something out. Unfortunately, he’s not a very observant guy and it turns out that while he was busy being all proud of himself, the enemy set the village on fire. Seriously, how did they not notice until it was half burned down? Did they not hear the people at least.
Hyoga has a pretty pinked hair sidekick that seems like she’s gonna be some trouble and even gave my girl Kohaku a run for her money. In the end, Hyoga’s group ended up retreated just enough to give the villagers a chance to get out in the open as everyone settles around the science camp. It seems the actual plan was simply to smoke the villagers out so they could get a hostage. As the started trying to burn the science camp down as well, Suika took matters into her own hands leading them away, and accidentally towards the sulfuric acid lake.
Mother nature took care of the rest. Or rather, Senku, Kohaku and a few gas masks ensured that Suika made it home safe leaving the others stranded on a high three waiting for the poisonous gases to subside.
This may have bought the kingdom of science some time but Tsukasa is still coming and they wont be this lucky twice. As such, it’s time for the ultimate weapon. Smartphones! All of Tsukasa,s recruits are teenagers right? Give them a few phones and they’ll soon loose interest in anything else. Brilliant!
What About the Characters
I’ll be honest, I didn’t pick up on pink haired girl’s name. She seemed super cool but aside from the fact that she’s an efficient warrior and Hyoga does not think she’s a complete idiot, we don’t learn much about her. We do however get a bit of a better idea of who Hyoga is and well…he’s not a very nice guy. As far as straight up villainy goes, he seems to be worse than Tsukasa which ain’t a great sign.
It’s bad news for Senku but it may be o.k. for the story. I’m not the hugest fan of unnuanced evil in an antagonist under normal circumstances. However, seeing as Dr. Stome has a rather large cast which already has a few antagonists (and how much to you want to bet that sitting in a tree guy with the yellow outfit is going to become important too, they made it so obvious! Where are these guys getting their nice clothes anyways? Gen is a downright fashion star…) what was I saying? Oh yeah, there’s a few bad guys so it’s cool if one is just plain bad. It’s a nice foil for the rest. Seems Hyoga is our eternally calm and smiling super evil one.
Oh I mentioned yellow cap guy. We actually see him in a flashback showing us how Tsukasa woke up Hyoga and a little bit of the Kingdom of Might. Tsukasa is industrious, I’ll give him that. The place was full of people, he must be waking them up round the clock. And it looked pretty cool too, with that honeycombed mountain side.
What’s more, this was much closer to the Tsukasa I was hoping for. Brutal and uncompromising but completely convinced that he is acting for the greater good and therefore oddly righteous. A man who does in fact care for the people around him and wants a better world for them. As such, it’s only natural that those said people would also care and respect him in return. As Gen himself implied, it’s easy to see why anyone would follow Tsukasa. I still think half his crew looked well past 18 but that’s another story.
What’s more, still no sign of Taiju and Yuzu. I know this is not going to happen. There’s a sort of straight forwardness to the narrative. But wouldn’t it be interesting if these two got roped into Tsukasa’s way of thinking. Not forced or brainwashed but simply after spending so much time with him, they also came to see him as admirable? I hope that showing us more of Tsukasa won’t destroy this delicate balance of menacing, antagonistic and compelling. But seeing as they already kind of did earlier in the season, I’m not expecting too much on that front.
What I Liked
The pacing of this episode was great. When you think about it some of the actual events were either a bit contrived or not that logical but the action flowed so nicely that I didn’t care.
I noticed that there was a lot of strong women this week and it was a nice change. Of course Kohaku has been essentially the brawn of the series for a little while which is an amusing subversion. I actually really appreciate how they made a physically strong female character without making any sort of big deal about it. There is not even the slightest implication that the trait is odd in any way. But aside from Kohaku being her usual brand of awesomeness, you had pink hair girl which really did everything on the bad guy’s side and Suika who more or less saved the day.  Let’s hear it for the ladies!
I liked that the Kingdom of Might seemed like a pretty nice place. Even if they end up ruining Tsukasa as a character, it’s still difficult to completely go against all these other people. They seem so chill!
I know I joked about it earlier but communication capacities really is one of the greatest tactical advantages you can get and I love that they are opting for an intel based attack.
What I Liked Less
I know I should stop harping about this but HOW did they not notice a village burning down like 20 feet away. They could feel the heat! I’m not saying that the lady could not have snuck in and started the fires and all that, it’s fine, but they had to wait for Hyoga to mention that he was a diversion before suddenly realizing it. That’s like when old cartoon character’s run off a ledge but don’t fall until they look down… It was a bit cheesy it’s all. It also made me laugh so not a complete loss.
So Hyoga had 4 stooges with him. And as they are trapped in a tree and he wants to see if there really is poisonous gas, he pushes them down to see if they survive. Great, he’s super evil, we know that now. But why did he have to push all four guys down at once? Now he’s just stuck in the tree with no more canaries to send down. Rather short sighted if you ask me!
Suika is cute and all, but she definitely would have been caught in the first minute. I’m glad she wasn’t…
Closing Thoughts
I was a touch nervous to see the return of Tsukasa. In my head Dr Stone is basically split in two. The early Taiju, Yuzu and Tsukasa episodes and then everything that happen since they split up. And I really like the second part way better. The idea of them all reuniting again makes me a bit nervous. However, this was another really good episode so I’m not sure what to think.
Mood: Happily unsure
Dr. Stone Episode 19 – Tsukasa the Beloved On Fridays I watch Dr. Stone and Fire Force so this Friday was just chalk full of Fire and Fury!

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S03E03 (“First Contact”)
(Safe to read for anime-only folks.)
My thoughts after watching Season Three, Episode Three:
01. It's cool the way they showed the black-and-white aerial photographs as squares next to each other, like a map! And everybody's helping! :)
02. That's a lot of work, looking for oil in so many photos... :O But It's great that the photos are helping so much with their winter food preparations! :D
03. Ryusui is dreaming of luxury food, and Francois can deliver... with the help of the learned expert, Suika! And Chalk, of course! :) Kohaku looks so happy to see Suika! :D
04. Hahaha! Kohaku caught so many boars, just like that! XD Poor little babies, though... :O
05. Wow, even Chrome, who's known Kohaku for years - and Senku, who knows how difficult it would be - doubted her, but Gen thinks it's possible she might be able to spot truffles from aerial photos! :)
06. Although in this case, the latter two are the correct ones XD But, instead of truffles, she found oil, and she looked so happy about it! :D I love how they're so excited that they're all just running out of the laboratory together to search right away! :O
07. I can't even blame the boar for eating that truffle... after all, finders keepers! XD And this way, we get awesome close-up shots of Chalk! We've never seen him this close before! Look at those paws! :)
08. That cliff is the cliff in the opening song! :O
09. This is just like the tungsten moment, and the final battle moment, where Senku REALLY needs to come up with a new plan. Suika helped him the first time; Kohaku started a siege for him the second time; and now, Kohaku's discovery and Suika's new friend helped him find the oil they all needed! :D
10. "Don't simmer him!" Hahaha! XD
11. Suika, the boar whisperer :O And, "You gotta start with a name if you want to make friends." VERY insightful! :O
12. Sagara found the oil field! :D Senku was SO eager to see the oil that he was the FIRST one to see Sagara enjoying it :O
13. I wonder how Senku made matches... What is the flammable thing at the end of matches, and how do you make those in the stone world? I'll have to research that when the time comes! :)
14. Senku and Kohaku and the others have oil now! :)
15. Uh-huh, reward for morale purposes, SURE, Senku. As if it didn't make you happy to see Suika happy! :D
16. Sagara has joined the party! :D
17. Senku, we all think you're awesome, but... we are NOT asking for engine details right now XD
18. Taiju helped identify the oil! :) Ah, we love a callback, especially to the very first episode of the very first season... :D And that's a great observation made by Ryusui about exceeding the science in the old world! :)
19. They didn't wait for Ukyo before starting the engine? Guys! :O
20. Now, instead of swallows, we have seagulls! :)
21. This is, like, the five wise generals' equivalent of a road trip! Or a sea trip? :D
22. Those look like some very powerful radio waves... :O Hahaha, looks like Ukyo's into roughin' it when it comes to sea navigation :D
23. Say whatever you want about Ginro, but when he's not going against his allies in an effort to be crowned village chief, he really supports his friends' potential romantic relationships! XD
24. And come to think of it, Ruri and Chrome must have been the village's equivalent of a soap opera. I can see why even the elderly folks are excited about the idea of her confessing her feelings to Chrome! :D
25. The Morse Code transmission, at last! As a manga reader, I've really been looking forward to this! I thought it would make an awesome season finale, but everybody's minds might have simultaneously exploded from the mystery and speculation... and the timing wouldn't have been right anyway :D
26. Ukyo receiving the signal with the antenna; Ryusui's plasma suggestion; Chrome's curiosity; Senku's insight about the radio waves; Gen's realization that it was a message in Morse Code... :O
27. Back then, I really wondered which word, "naze" or "doshite," would be used for this "why." I think I favored doshite, but it looks like it was naze after all! XD And the unsettling music and sound effects during this scene were particularly good details to include! :D
28. Senku, for somebody who preserved his thinking mind for three thousand seven hundred years, your self-preservation instincts in this episode were... uh... WHY would you taunt the "WHY" message sender like that?! :O
29. The voice saying that in English kind of threw me off. I wasn't expecting that, for some reason. I was expecting, "Doshite? Doshite? Doshite?" :O
30. The first two lines of the ED... "Sometimes, I wonder, again and again... Sometimes, I wonder, again and again..." In other words, "WHY, WHY!" Arrgh, I read the manga! WHY didn't I make the connection earlier?! :O And there are also noticeable things in the ED! :D
31. This episode, at last! :) The future isn't exactly a mystery to me, because I read the whole manga, but it's so great that the anime is finally at this point! (And beyond it, actually, since I'm really late in watching these episodes, haha!) Imagine talking to the one who petrified all the inhabitants of your entire planet (except for six people)... and the FIRST think you hear is them asking YOU "Why, why, why?" It's just so wrong and weird on so many levels! And Senku is being just like himself, wanting to know everything there is to know - ESPECIALLY everything about the one behind the petrification! :O This anime series is so exhilarating! :D

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S03E07 (“Ray of Despair, Ray of Hope”)
(Safe to read for anime-only folks.)
My thoughts after watching Season Three, Episode Seven:
01. They're up against a storm, and all hands are on deck! :O
02. It's cool that there's a microphone thingy up where Kohaku is! She can relay information without having to shout - or ask questions, like she did when she asked about their lead when it comes to science! :)
03. Kaseki's so proud of the eyes of science that he made! :D
04. Ryusui is a very capable captain - he's very good at anticipating what the weather will be like! :O
05. This episode's title is "Ray of Despair, Ray of Hope" :)
06. And just like that, there's no more storm! Ryusui was right… AND he rewards hard workers! :D
07. Suika! :) I can't blame her for wanting to volunteer when Senku mentioned "recon squad," because reconnaissance is Suika's specialty! But clearly, Ryusui does NOT want her to go to the island! :O
08. The four-person team will consist of Senku, Soyuz, Kohaku, and Gen! :) Oh, they have a mechanized speedboat! :)
09. And so continues the tradition of Kohaku helping Senku climb high places :D Although this time, he WASN'T carried by the scruff of his robes like a little kitten, like when they were climbing the bald mountain to make powerful magnets... :D
10. Chrome isn't even annoyed or worried about Suika being there - he knows that Suika is capable and helpful in her own right, having been part of Gen's fake-murder investigation AND reconnaissance concerning Chrome's own incarceration. He has faith in Suika's abilities! :D
11. Aww, Suika wants to help, but I really see Ryusui's point as well! He's such a caring, responsible captain! He had to be stern, but it was because he was worried about Suika and wanted her to be safe! :')
12. And it was quite sweet of Francois to explain Ryusui's position to Suika! :D
13. And this Taiju-Suika interaction is so wholesome as well! Taiju knows she wants to help, so he gave her a way to do so! And Suika's not proud; she doesn't NEED to be a conquering hero or super detective or anything - she's just as happy with the prospect of helping to clean the ship! :)
14. Ginro saw a chance to get out of cleaning, and he took it! A perfect job for a man of the water! XD
15. Ukyo's realization about the statues' petrification... Ryusui's realization about somebody watching... and even Kohaku's realization/thought that something was shining on the ship... :O
16. Senku's STILL tired from all the physical exertion! I get ya, Senku... I get ya... :D
17. Oh, Soyuz... Oh, Gen... :O Seeing all of their friends petrified must have been... bone-chillingly HORRIFYING...! :O
18. And Ryusui kicked Suika away from the ship to save her! What a great guy! :O This was actually the action in the manga that made me like Ryusui! :)
19. Kohaku and a chasing-after-her Senku found a small seashell mystery, but Soyuz, Gen, and Suika have a bigger petrification mystery on their hands... :O
20. And now, Kohaku and Senku know the very bad news... Kohaku has ALWAYS taken immediate action when somebody was in danger... Senku, Suika, Kinro, Chrome... and Senku again... and now, SO many people, so many of her friends, are in danger! :(
21. Gen was SMART to tie a connecting rope between himself and Kohaku! XD But also... Kohaku must trust Gen a LOT to be so relaxed around him that she didn't notice him tying a piece of rope around her leg. She must REALLY trust Gen! :D
22. Soyuz has remembered a little bit more about his past... and I'm just gonna take this moment to say that Soyuz is SO muscular. Like, he is BUFF. He has muscles and muscles and muscles. He's not like Magma, who's, like, a bigger person - Soyuz is, like, wow! :O
23. And now, Senku and the others know more about the enemy... and more about their potential ally, thanks to some shell and insect analysis! :)
24. So Senku is using adhesive, or cyanoacrylate, and its steam lets fingerprints appear on seashells... did this happen in the manga? I don't remember this... :O
25. Gen thought of all that information AND found a strand of hair in the woods?! XD
26. The kingdom of science's blonde-haired centrifuge can also fight, and see things from great distances! :D
27. So Senku was carrying around microscope components in his pouches? Hmm, not the worst things to be carrying with you! :)
28. And now it's time for Kohaku and her vision to help! Dr. Stone is incredible at putting everybody's strengths and skills together to achieve great results! :D
29. Girl spotted! And a pretty girl, at that! :)
30. Hahaha, Kohaku's enjoying watching this unfold! XD
31. "A bride of the inner palace..." Uh-huh. Manga readers know that THAT means... :O
32. Confessing on the last possible day is so... traditional, hahaha! XD
33. Hmm, weird Senku face, and thick, black outlines for Senku and Gen... :O
34. Senku just outright asked Amaryllis where the treasure box is! XD
35. Kohaku just threw Senku to the wolves... wolf... girl! XD He does NOT appreciate it at ALL! :D
36. First, Soyuz, and now, Senku... and Amaryllis has to keep correcting herself because Senku... well, his might isn't on the outside, that's all I'll say! XD
37. Gen said, "That kind of attack isn't going to work on Senku-chan. Not until civilization is restarted." Good information, Gen! :D
38. Kohaku's right arm got so muscular after she offered to embrace Gen! XD I don't think this was in the manga either, but it's funny! XD
39. I also don't think this chloroacetone tear gas stuff was in the manga... Unless I also forgot about it... but I CANNOT believe that I forgot SO much stuff from the manga :O
40. I know it's a serious scene, but the idea that becoming the prettiest girl was the only way to save everybody she knew is funny! It's the kind of thing that would only make sense in ONE specific context... in this case, Dr. Stone XD
41. Oooh, the island's most beautiful girl, Amaryllis, has joined the party! :D She knows the secret of the petrification beam; she is indeed very pretty; and her turquoise-colored accessories (are they made from shells of some sort?) are a really pretty color! :)
42. So at the moment, we have most of the crew petrified, some people who are NOT petrified, and Amaryllis is about to tell Senku and the others the secret of the petrification beam! :O We also have a new post-credits title card animation thingy, and the next episode's title is going to be, "The Trump Card Aboard the Science Vessel!" After I find something to eat for breakfast, I'll get right to watching that! :D

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S02E01 (”Stone Wars Beginning”)
My thoughts after watching Season Two, Episode One:
01. With Senku telling only Gen to get back to work, the children got the same message without being embarrassed. Very diplomatic of Senku! Of course, Gen listened for, like, a second before going right back to distracting everybody 😆
02. Science is Senku’s big thing, but the flashbacks made me think of how brave Senku is, too. There he was, alone on a beach with a tall, intimidating, muscular guy who’s so strong that he can punch stone statues and not even get a scratch, and Senku actually reaches out, puts his hand on Tsukasa’s shoulder, and tries to stop the him and says outright that he disagrees with him. The angle of that shot… Tsukasa was like a mountain just bearing down on him 😲
03. What was that bag? Was it made out of bamboo fiber or something? Why did they focus on it? I know they used it for the ramen, but why? Couldn’t they have just done all that in bamboo tubes? Or did they use those bags because need something more… breatheable… (for lack of a better word) than bamboo tubes to do the drying part?
04. Kokuyou’s really cool. He doesn’t get things intuitively like Chrome does, but he still takes the information he has (heavy rocks / space food) and tries to think of ways (rock/ramen projectiles) they would be useful for Senku’s plans. He’s jumped to the same conclusion both times, but he’s willing to listen and learn and join the discussion. He’s an authority figure and older than most of the main cast, but he’s not afraid to risk losing face when he’s wrong, which is admirable.
05. I guess space ramen < waterwheel, because Kaseki didn’t cause a mini-earthquake and wreck their hydro-electric power plant 😆
06. Kohaku can cook ramen! Which means +1 point to her future domestic bliss with Senku! 😁
07. I love how Senku isn’t carrying anything as they’re walking, but Suika is, implying that she’s stronger than him XD Then again, we already knew that from their video game stats from Season One 😆
08. I’m just like Gen. I knew freeze-drying was a thing, and that it was a thing that involved freezing and drying, but I had no idea how it was done until I watched it. Thanks, Senku!
09. That ramen presentation shot was very similar to its counterpart in Season One! 😊
10. Poor Chrome, wanting to be excited… 😆
11. Haven’t the villagers frozen food before? Did they assume things were the same in summer and winter (eat food immediately or else it’ll spoil)?
12. Kohaku hugging Suika while Chrome was blowing on his ramen!! 😁
13. Why did this ramen’s broth look red when it didn't before? Different ingredients from the Season One ramen?
14. Gen holding a tube of space ramen in his hand and happily drinking his cola while surrounded by other happy people… 😊
15. When they said in Season One that Byakuya’s space ramen was from his and Senku’s favorite ramen restaurant, I figured that the restaurant sent it to the people managing the space mission. It never occurred to me that Byakuya and Senku would have worked on it themselves, but it’s so like them! 😁
16. Ruri’s comfortable enough to express her fears, and Senku acknowledges them and cares enough to explain why she shouldn’t be worried. I really like their moments together in the anime and manga! 😁
17. Ginro and Senku are so in-tune with each other that Senku sees exactly what Ginro is imagining in his mind about what Yuzuriha and Taiju look like? Hahaha! 😆
18. Very nice of Chrome to play the record for the kids 😊 And he looks so happy when he’s asleep!
19. The blacked-out eye thing works better in the manga, I think. In the anime, it looks like an injury or something!
20. Gen considers Kokuyou pure-hearted? Aww! (Maybe it was because he suggested they would weaponize hot ramen 😆)
21. I wish that plank of wood had kept going down while Senku hammered it. It did in the first shot, but not in the second one.
22. Panicked Tsukasa looks adorable 😆
23. It’s true that they’ll recognize Senku as he is, but honestly, if he just uses some kind of moss or something as hair gel as part of a disguise, nobody would realize it was him 😆
24. It’s touching that Tsukasa brushed the snow off that girl’s hair… but less so when you know he’s likely the reason why there’s no body attached to the adult hand the girl is holding…
25. Kohaku’s eyesight is really powerful… 😲
26. Anime is a really good medium when it comes to scenes where several people are talking. The camera just changes focus from one character to the next, instead of having everything in one big frame. They did this in Season One, too, when they were talking about the cotton candy machine.
27. Aww, curious bunny!! 😊 And it even popped up beside Senku and Ginro when they were getting ready to set off the sound bombs! So cute!! 😃
28. Very nice of Senku to let Ginro do the honors. Ginro sure had a… blast! 😋
29. As a manga reader, there were things in this episode that I hadn’t expected, but the additions made sense, in order to fill up the episode to be able to have the nighttime conversation as the final scene. And there wasn’t enough of Kohaku for me in this episode, but there’s always the rest of the season! Happy Season Two, everybody! We're finally here! 😁
Edit:
30. So that there aren’t any contradictions with what they said in Season One about where the ramen came from, maybe Byakuya and Senku came up with the idea and figured out portion sizes and stuff for the packets, and then coordinated with their ramen place so that it’s the restaurant’s own sauce and noodles that were in the space version 😊

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S02E02 (“Hot Line”)
(Safe to read for anime-only folks 😁)
My thoughts after watching Season Two, Episode Two:
01. Taiju and Yuzuriha in the very first frame 😊
02. In Season One, the OP had chemistry formulas, and this season, it’s mathematical formulas! 😊
03. In the opening song, Ruri is praying for everybody to be safe, Kaseki looks solemn, Magma is smiling, and Suika is… bouncing around excitedly. I think this might be showing us just who is actually the most bloodthirsty member of the kingdom of science to date... 😆
04. Is it a good idea for Suika to be the lookout? I know the telescope has lenses, but still… Although out of main and side characters, she’s the one who’d be better off avoiding an all-out battle (though she did save everybody last season), so I guess it makes sense for her to help out this way. And she isn’t the type of person to get bored or slack off 😊
05. Kohaku makes jumping off of tree branches look so effortless 😲
06. The way Kohaku’s eyes were red as she approached Homura from behind… 😲
07. Haha! Kohaku carried hot spring water from a mountain to her village for years and years! A bit of conversation while jumping around in the forest isn’t going to exhaust her at all 😁
08. It’s nice that Kokuyou is still so active in protecting the village even though he isn’t the chief anymore 😊
09. Kohaku from behind, Senku from the front, trapping Homura in the middle. It’s awesome to see the two of them working together like this! 😊
10. Hello again, Mecha Senku! Long time no see! 😁
11. We didn’t get a “flare acquired!” notification 🙁
12. Kohaku fell off a tree because of her incredible eyesight couldn’t take Senku’s super-bright flare! Aww! 😊 And… nobody noticed 😆
13. “Once we’re done building civilization…” This is really interesting. Way back in the beginning, he wasn’t interested in romance at all, but now, after some time has passed, he went from “no thanks” to “maybe AFTER this specific point in time in the future.” Something, or rather, somebody, may have caused Senku to consider changing his mind? Who knows...? 😆
14. Senku’s lack of physical strength is so established that even Homura knows about it 😆
15. Poor Kohaku… incredible eyesight isn’t always such a great thing to have... 😆
16. In Argo’s mind: “Yes! I’m in a scene with main characters! And an antagonist knows who I am! Wow!”
17. Chalk trying to help 😊
18. Again, no “black light acquired!” notification 🙁
19. Kohaku and Senku’s conversation! 😊 For somebody to put their trust in somebody else when it’s a question of morals… you don’t do that with just anybody. That shows an amazing amount of faith 😲 Both of them speaking with each other so seriously, and Kohaku opening up about a “weakness” of hers… This is a great scene! 😁
20. Magma was RUNNING down that mountain! Running!
21. Why did Gen stop Chrome from answering the phone? It wasn’t like Homura or Tsukasa had any way of intercepting the call?
22. Senku, Kohaku, Kinro… a nice trio 😊 Kohaku taking her turn to keep watch, while Senku and Kinro are bonding… it’s nice to see hints like this of friendships between characters 😊
23. That “sun rising over the Earth” shot reminded me of the very first Pokemon opening theme 😁 “I want to be the very best… Like no one ever was…”
24. Senku, why are you comparing Morse Code transmissions to text messages while talking to Kohaku and Kinro?? That doesn’t help make things any clearer! 😆
25. That map shows paths that aren’t straight lines. How do you even communicate paths like that in Morse Code? Degrees and steps, maybe?
26. Homura looks HORRIFIED at the thought of communications technology! (As she rightly should.)
27. Before, Tsukasa trapped Kohaku under a tree, intending to kill her… and now, Kohaku’s saving a member of the Tsukasa Empire from being trapped under a tree and being killed by the impact 😲
28. Before, Tsukasa chopped down a tree to trap Kohaku and kill her, and now, the kingdom of science chopped down a tree to trap a member of the Tsukasa Empire, and had Kohaku save her from being killed 😲
29. I love how Kohaku is just gloating over how they used the cell phones and how they used them to trap Homura, because one, it’s not like she gets all the scientific concepts behind it, and two, the MODERN-ERA person she’s restraining understands the concept of communications technology way more than Kohaku does 😆
30. Kohaku looked so happy as she was waving to Chrome! I love their friendship!! 😊
31. The music we heard right after that… feels like a slow version of something familiar? Or is it just nee epic-sounding music?
32. Why is there no snow on those numbered statues? And the general area Chrome and the others are in?
33. I JUST noticed that Magma has the same two-color hair Kokuyou has 😲 Has Magma always had that??
34. Gen thinking about that guy’s family… 😢
35. He was able to intercept that? He moves fast!
36. Um, Gen… when it actually comes time to kill somebody… what you said doesn’t apply to everybody, unfortunately. The person right in front of you is also capable of “going ahead and doing it.” You know that better than anybody!
37. I like what Chrome is saying (especially the “We’re aiming way higher” line), but the super quick transition from “cloudy day” to “lots of rays of sunlight” is pretty jarring…
38. They’re allies now, but Gen can’t resist taking the opportunity to creep Magma out… or just plain scare him 😆
39. Using a fake grave for covert communications like that is SUCH a good idea! 😁
40. Magma’s trying so hard to help, but… 😆
41. When Chrome hit that large stone with his shovel, I thought it was THE rock – the gigantic boulder that Taiju threw at Tsukasa! Could it be the same rock?
42. The archer has appeared! 😊 He has a deeper voice than I would have imagined…
43. Kohaku looks so worried; probably for Chrome in particular… 🙁
44. I wish the animators had included one frame of Taiju and Yuzuriha noticing the upturned earth around the grave, or something, instead of immediately having Taiju just randomly stick his hand into the dirt and pull out the microphone.
45. One word from Senku, and Taiju started crying so hard before he could even speak… 😢
46. After Taiju said, “Senku!” we see Senku’s face… and there was a quick moment where his mouth twitched while the corners of his lips were still pulled downward… like a genuinely spontaneous emotional reaction to hearing from his friends again after so long… before Senku gave a big grin as a planned “cooler” reaction 😢 And even though he’s trying to act all cool and stuff, Senku’s eyes are shining with tears… 😢
47. About the ED, I was expecting modern Senku to turn into stone world Senku… I didn’t expect the green petrification light and petrified Senku, and for the buildings in the background to fall apart. Such cool details! And I loved how stone age Senku was walking at first, then running (and then running with science gear), representing the hope he has for the future! 😊 I wonder if the yellow-to-blue color transition has any symbolic meanings behind it?
48. I need to look up the meanings of the lyrics of these new season’s OP and ED so that I can understand what the songs are about. Right now, the OP sounds too chill for me to be the right OP for this season, but I like the way the ED sounds 😊 I think I’ll really like the ED’s lyrics when I learn what they are! 😁
