Nepal and It’s Contemporary Politics
In My lifetime Nepal has seen Four constitutions. When I was in my school days, Nepal had Monarchy and a system called Panchayati byawastha (Political Party was not allowed). In my college days, Nepal had Monarchy with multi political party i.e. BAHUDALIYA BYAWASTHA. Then Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) under leadership of Mr Prachand aka Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai started insurgency in which it is said that 17000 people were killed from both sides. After peace agreement was agreed, Nepal had an Interim Constitution for around 8 years.  Then the fourth one called Federal Republic which exists now.
If we see in the history of the world, Revolution happens when a political system becomes ineffective in delivering the aspirations of the people. So If I put this logic into Nepalese political system, The monarchy must have failed in delivering the aspirations of the people. Then people must have revolted against monarchy and Panchayati Byawastha might have come into picture. During the short span of few years, this system must have failed to deliver the aspirations of the people. Then again people have revolted against it.Then Bahudaliya Byawastha must have come into picture. When there was Bahudaliya Byawastha with Constitutional Monarchy, Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) under leadership of Mr Prachand aka Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai engineered a insurgency in the name of Maoism in which 17000 people were killed. During insurgency, political slogans were raised such as गाउँ गाउँ मा सिंहदरबार,  जाति, भाषा र पहिचान को आधारमा राज्य पुनसंरचना etc. How these slogans relate to Maoism is still a mystery to me. After peace process, and 8 years of Interim Constitution, Federal Republic Constitution came into picture. Nepal has been divided into 7 states with central government and there are around 763 local governments around the country with a multi party political system.
Now I hear again political speech from the political leaders and debate regarding Nepal’s originality. The Hotels should serve Nepalese Original Cuisine, women should wear Nepalese Original dress etc etc. When Political Leaders mention Nepal’s original cuisine, do they mean tharu cuisine or Newar cuisine or madheshi cuisine or muslim cuisine or Thakali cuisine? Khas Bahuns do not have any original cuisine of theirs. Same can be said about dressing. Maoism, communism of any kind is not original political system of Nepal. It is an imported concept. And the same leaders are preaching about originality to the Nepalese people. What an irony!
Many questions arise in my mind, why Nepal needed so many constitutions and ruling systems? But when I see around in the political circle, I see the same political leaders who earlier practiced Panchayati Byawastha, Bahudaliya Byawastha, Interim Constitutional days and now practicing Federal Republic multiparty system. And still, Nepal is a mess in the sense of political system. When a person get sick he goes to the doctor, doctor prescribe medicine and after sometime the patient does not recover the doctor changes medicine and this continues until the patient recovers or dies. I wonder whether it is the case with Nepal and Nepalese people. Who is the doctor in this case? who is the patient in this case? In what stage of treatment is Nepal under? Is it going to recover?

She Loves Control (part 3)
It took me longer this time but I was preoccupied with work and had very little time to write for pleasure. Also, this part is longer. And since we had so little time with Kamilah this chapter, I’m posting this now, after the bare minimum of proofreading - sorry ‘bout that. Fun fact - I wrote the scene of the Gala before we got to meet Vega and... well, I guessed his aesthetic correctly.
Pairing: Kamilah x MC
Words: 3142
Warnings: none this time
Part 1 | Part 2 ...
Anna had this spontaneous, effortless, almost childish way about her that made her not exactly courageous but uninhibited enough to say what was on her mind and do what she felt like doing. She could even be rather charming when she didn’t think much of it and everyone that ever had any role in her life - from her childhood friends to her college flatmates - agreed she was at least somewhat endearing.
“There must be more to life than going through it”, she had told her mom, while packing the suitcase for her year abroad in San Trobida.
“Here for a good time, not a long time”, she used to say while greeting friends at the club, though they found it incredibly cheesy as they’d told her so on multiple occasions.
“I want to feel deeply”, she had told Adrian, one of the first things she ever said to him.
But Anna had never anticipated the intensity of the last few weeks. Because here she was now, convincing an ancient vampire to go to a diner with her like normal people did and she couldn’t quite fathom how it had come to this.
“Well, aren’t you looking gorgeous”, Lily passed by the mirror on her way to the kitchen.
“It doesn't count”, Anna informed her. “You wouldn’t be my best friend if you didn’t say that.”
“What? I’d lose my BFF privileges over not paying you a compliment? That’s harsh. Even for you...”
“Come here, ya goofball.” Anna squeezed her in a hug. “Are you sure you’ll be alright?”
“You mean not kill anybody? Yeah, I can manage”, Lily shot back, a small laughter escaping her lips. Anna finally released her, unamused.
“I’ll be fine.” Lily said, her tone serious. “You go have fun… or not, it doesn’t really sound like a party.”
“Well, it’s not.”, Anna confirmed. “I’ll play coordinator all evening, making sure everything goes smoothly...”
“But you’ll also see Kamilah, right?”, Lily inquired, making her blush a little.
“Uh… I… yeah. I guess I will, huh.” Anna tried to feign disinterest but there was no fooling Lily.
“You know I could hear your heart beating faster from miles. I mean, I literally could...”, Lily said, grinning at her own joke, but also at Anna’s meek attempts to disguise her infatuation.
That very moment Anna’s phone lit up on the coffee table and a short ringing sound interrupted their banter.
“It’s Adrian, he’s outside”, Anna announced.
“Saved by the bell”, Lily kept on teasing.
“You’ll be alright?”
“For the last time - yes. Now, go, go, go. Get out of here! Go to that fancy Gala thing. You look like a million bucks and your highlighter game is strong, so nothing can go wrong.” Lily opened the door to the apartment and handed Anna her sequins-covered clutch, rushing her out.
“Okay, bye, but text me if-”, but the door shut before Anna could finish her sentence.
Adrian was waiting for her in a black limousine with dark windows parked right outside of her apartment building. The sun was setting over the cityscape, red and orange hues painted over the glass facades.
“I congratulate myself on my faultless taste”, Adrian greeted Anna as she sat opposite him. “The dress suits you.”
“Thank you”, Anna was quick to reply. “The compliment would mean so much more, hadn’t you turned it on yourself, but I suppose you couldn’t help it.” She said, a cheeky smile in her eyes.
“I’m glad you’re in a good mood”, Adrian returned her smile, though there was visible strain in his expression.
“Unlike you, it seems”, Anna’s smile faded. “What’s going on?”
“Relax”, Adrian chuckled at the sight of her face going from zero to ‘ferals are attacking’ in the span of a few seconds. “It’s nothing supernatural. Unless you consider my business skills exceptionally lacking.” Anna said nothing in response, just raised an eyebrow. Adrian sighed.
“After a couple of failed negotiations you were informed about”, he began and she gave him a slight nod to confirm she was indeed informed, “I have to show everyone business is still going strong. Or as Nicole would put it, we need good press coverage.”
“Well”, Anna smiled at him. “It’s a good thing you have me on your team.”
“It is”, he agreed, returning the smile.
Flashing lights were everywhere. Anna was not prepared to be photographed, much less from the moment the doors of the limousine opened right until they entered the enclosed area where only a few people with cameras were allowed in.
The Gala was held at the grounds of Adam Vega’s enormous colonial style mansion. A cluster of huge cream coloured tents was spread across the lawn, the whole arrangement impressive both in size and in structure. Garlands of what in this light looked like pale blush roses decorated the tents and strings of warm yellow lights created a web over the heads of the guests. The mellow jazz played from a small platform at the far end of the lawn permeated the warm late-April air with bittersweet melancholy as the last red hues in the sky made way for the indigo dusk.
Anna stayed by Adrian’s side as he greeted a few of the guests and posed for pictures with the host. It took almost an hour of pleasantries and picture-taking but after the whole ordeal was over, Adrian visibly relaxed. The air got somewhat lighter and he led her to the bar, hand respectfully placed on her back where her dress provided coverage.
“You look distracted”, he noticed, placing a glass of Old fashioned in front of her.
“Huh?” Anna cast a quick glance his way before searching the crowd again.
“She’s not here”, Adrian said, immediately gaining her attention. “Yet. Texted to tell me she’s on her way a few minutes ago. Traffic.”
“I...”, Anna opened her mouth to say something but Adrian cut her with a smile.
“Have no idea who I’m talking about?”, he suggested.
“Oh, God, I must be so obvious”, Anna finally relented, her expression changing from anxious to defeated. “Lily already makes jokes at my expense, now you...”
“I’m not making jokes.” Adrian shook his head. “And no, you’re not that obvious.”
“Then how…?”
“I had a feeling”, he replied, slightly shrugging. “I’m a good observer, let’s say. And Lily… she’s your best friend.”
“I guess you’re right”, Anna sighed. “I mean, it’s not like I’m making any effort to hide it or anything...”
Adrian lifted his glance from her face with intention. “And here she comes...”, he mumbled. Anna turned around with her whole body to see Kamilah making her way through the crowd, cameras following her every move. In her simple, yet elegant full-length caped wine dress she exuded authority. She graciously allowed Vega to kiss her hand when he came to greet her and exchanged a few words with him before her eyes caught Anna’s for a single fleeting moment.
Kamilah then proceeded with answering some reporter’s questions, her expression unreadable the whole time. Eventually she made her way to the bar to greet Adrian right when Priya Lacroix seemed to stumble upon him, clearly looking for a drink rather than small talk but rising to the occasion nonetheless.
“Don’t you look like a vision in this dress, dear!” Priya turned to Anna after greeting Adrian first.
“Thank you”, Anna replied, suddenly timid.
“Doesn’t she, Kamilah?”, Priya shifted her gaze to her.
“You _are _very talented, Priya”, Kamilah agreed, the corners of her mouth twitching. “Afterall, the mark of a good design is no one paying attention to the dress in favor of the woman wearing it.”
A warmth spread across Anna’s face as she lowered her gaze for a second. Kamilah had noticed she looked even more lovely when blushing, the blood rushing to her cheeks making these soft noises like rivulets did in forests.
Adrian relieved the tension with a small cough that brought Anna’s attention back to the party. A sharply dressed young man had caught her eye and she leaned to Adrian’s side to speak more privately to him.
“This is Harrison Stanford over there. Two years ago he invested four million dollars in a program called ‘Every family’, which funds in vitro procedures. He’s the perfect investor for the new technology Raines Corp. develops - this is personal for him. Oh, also, he and his wife, Jamila, adopted their second child last month.” Anna informed him in a hushed voice. “Ah, yes, it’s a boy, they named him Kamal”, she added, tugging at Adrian’s sleeve and just a moment later another thing came to her mind, so she spoke again. “First child - daughter - Aida.”
“Priya, Kamilah”, Adrian gave each of them a small nod, “I’m pained to leave you so soon, but I have to go congratulate my old friend Harrison over there on his second child. I hope to see you both again before the night is over.”
Adrian smiled at Anna reassuringly and started making his way towards Harrison, leaving her alone with Kamilah and Priya. The silence felt awkward to Anna, though the other two women didn’t seem bothered.
“Well, frankly, I’m getting bored”, Priya spoke again eventually. “And I’m gonna go mingle before Kamilah starts talking about Council business.” She grabbed her drink from the bar before turning to leave.
“Are you enjoying yourself?”, Kamilah asked almost as if she had been waiting for the opportunity.
“I wouldn’t call it that”, Anna replied honestly. “But it’s beautiful.”
“What is?” Kamilah seemed surprised at her answer.
“The whole evening”, Anna said, her eyes on the horizon where the sky was slowly growing black. “The feeling of the warm air on my skin, the smell of these roses… I even like the music. And yes, I might be a little… tipsy.”
Kamilah chuckled, then her expression became somewhat distant, her eyes staring into space. “I hadn’t noticed the roses”, she murmured, then snapped out of it. “I see you have a drink, but would you care to dance?”
“You mean… with you?” Anna seemed taken aback.
“You’re perfectly free to say ‘no’...”
“No, no, I’d love to. I mean, yes… yes, I’d love to… dance with you.” Anna started faltering, her cheeks turning red again.
Kamilah outstretched her arm towards her. The moment their hands touched their fingers intertwined on their own. Kamilah led her to where a few more couples were slow-dancing before gently pulling her closer, her hand on the small of Anna’s back. Their eyes met and for a moment Anna felt home. Nothing had ever felt as familiar as Kamilah’s arms around her. Anna was not typically clumsy, but she couldn’t pass for a good dancer if her life depended on it, yet her feet seemed to be moving on their own now. Everything felt so easy.
And then suddenly the air felt heavy. Something had changed, Kamilah tensed, her arms closed around Anna tighter. There was screaming. People running. Adrian appeared seemingly out of nowhere. “Get her out of here, I’ll deal with this”, he told Kamilah with determination. She gave him a slight nod, her hand closing around Anna’s wrist.
“Wh-what’s… going...on..?” Anna barely verbalised her question. They seemed to cross the yard in seconds, Anna was running out of breath. Once they reached the car, Kamilah turned to her to answer her question, “Ferals.”
“I mean, I figured as much”, Anna said, catching her breath. “But I can’t quite figure out...”
“Why.” Kamilah finished her sentence for her, keeping her eyes on the road, her brows furrowed. She never replied back and a tense silence settled in the car.
Kamilah tossed the car keys on the kitchen table first thing after closing the door. The place was spacious and somewhat barren. An open-plan living space with nothing but a black leather couch, a coffee table, a dining area and a modern kitchen with no appliances or food on the counters - no fruit bowls, no vases full of professionally arranged flowers, no paintings on the walls, nor pictures… just a long wall of windows opening up to a balcony overlooking the city.
“Are you feeling alright”, Kamilah asked, her voice softening, her face almost relaxing.
“Yes. It’s not like anything happened to me...”, Anna replied. “But what about those people there?”
Kamilah sighed. She took her eyes off Anna’s face for a moment, looking through the windows instead. “We can’t save everyone”, she said finally. “We can, however, get to the bottom of this.”
“That file you asked me to find for you earlier… You think someone on the Council is behind all of this. And not just omitting the truth but… plotting.”
“I do, in fact, believe this”, Kamilah asserted. “But I was looking for something else today.”
“What?”
Kamilah seemed to asses Anna for a moment. Not questioning whether she could trust her, but rather wondering whether she should involve her in all of this. But then again, Anna was in danger as it was, there really was no way around it anymore.
“Dirty laundry”, Kamilah said after some consideration. “No one on the Council is outright involved in any questionable endeavors. But if you read between the lines...”
“You… intend to blackmail them?”
“God, no”, Kamilah breathed out with a tone of reproach. “Blackmail is such an ugly word. But sometimes loyalty is not enough to persuade a person...”
“Okay, then. Not Blackmail. Whatever it is, whatever you’d rather call it, let me help.” Anna said with determination.
Kamilah held her glance a little too long, her expression unreadable. Anna didn’t back down, didn’t flinch a bit, just stood there meeting her eyes with this almost naive tenacity of hers verging on stubbornness that Kamilah seemed to have a soft spot for.
“Alright”, Kamilah said. “I’ll go change into something… more appropriate. You find all the files and we’ll go over them.”
“Okay.” Anna smiled at her, the smile of a person who got their way. “Wait, where are these files?”
“My office is over there”, Kamilah pointed to a door near the kitchen and then turned in the opposite direction. “They’re on my computer, but you’ll find a full list of passwords somewhere on the desk.”
“You… keep a list?”
Kamilah sighed. “It’s more of a notebook. They are so many and I only use a third of them on daily basis...”
Anna entered her office and turned on the lights. Unlike the rest of Kamilah’s apartment, her office was nearly homey. Her desk was rather messy, something Anna had not anticipated. She opened the laptop and started looking around for the notebook of passwords.
After some fruitless fumbling around Anna opened the top drawer of the desk and started going through the pile of office supplies there, until something sharp scratched the tips of her fingers. She stopped to look at this unexpected finding of hers. A yellowed picture of a woman, a little torn at the edges, pressed between two glass panels, not quite a frame. The picture had faded, but Anna could still make out the dark curls at the woman’s forehead and the strings of pearls around her neck.
Anna suddenly tensed.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry, I was searching for that notebook...”, she turned around to see Kamilah looking at the picture over her shoulder.
“It’s okay”, she assured her softly, her eyes still on the small portrait.
“She’s beautiful… Who is she?”
“Her name was Daisy. Daisy Caulfield. She was quite the little starlet back then”, Kamilah said, her voice holding a sort of nostalgic tenderness and the notes of an inside joke, meant for someone long gone. “But fame never meant much for her.”
“Did you...”
“Love her?”, Kamilah’s eyes met hers, a challenge in them, an unspoken question. Then her gaze softened and she looked at the picture again. “I did. Very much.”
“What happened? I’m sorry, I- You don’t have to tell me...”
“What always happens”, Kamilah replied. “She had a beautiful life. Grew old in a quaint country house like she had dreamed of.”
“So, you didn’t...”, Anna trailed off, searching for something in Kamilah’s now composed expression.
“No. How could I?” Kamilah locked eyes with her as if searching for the answer to her rhetorical question there. “We cannot afford to be selfish with the ones we love, Anna, no matter the pain.”
Anna took a step back. Kamilah was too smart not to be making a point, she never said things without a purpose to them, and Anna felt the subtle accusation in her tone.
“Lily was going to die”, she shot back. Kamilah slightly lifted her brows in surprise.
“I wasn’t referring to your friend”, she said.
“What… what were you implying then?”
“But I already made it clear how I feel about your decision”, Kamilah spoke again as if continuing a thought, disregarding Anna’s question. She turned around, making her way out of the study and into the living room. “You’re meddling in things you can’t even begin to comprehend...”
“To save her life!” Anna insisted, following closely behind her, her expression hardened in stubborn determination.
“To play God”, Kamilah corrected her, slightly shaking her head, a shadow of pain passing behind her eyes.
“How could you say that?”, Anna stopped in the middle of the spacious room as if demanding her undivided attention, wherever she thought she was going. Kamilah turned to her, the city lights twinkling behind her. “She would have died...” Anna breathed out, a hint of disbelief in her voice as if she could never even imagine that.
“Yes,” Kamilah said simply. “She would have. But did you consider it for a second that maybe she should have?”
Anna opened her mouth to reply, but Kamilah wasn’t done.
“Who are _you _to say who is to live or die? Who are you to decide her faith for her? You foolish, selfish little girl...”, Kamilah crossed the distance between them in a split second. “Have you taken a life, Anna?” Kamilah’s penetrating eyes were fixed on hers. “Have you?... No.”
“What point are you trying to make..?”, Anna whispered, though she already knew on some level what Kamilah was talking about.
“If you had the choice,” Kamilah continued, her breath on Anna’s face, her gaze uncomfortable, intrusive “would you keep your parents alive, just to have them by your side for longer, even when their time had come?”
“And would you then”, Kamilah went on without waiting for her answer “have the audacity to say you love them?”
A silence fell upon them that seemed to last forever.
“To love means to respect the other person’s path, Anna. Even if that path takes them away from you.”
Anna stood there in the middle of the living room, blinking back tears, while Kamilah made her way to the balcony.

Malayalam Vocab: Clothes and Accessories
General
A lot of clothes that aren’t traditionally from Kerala don’t have native words, but are pronounced in almost the same way. So if you don’t see common clothes like socks, jackets, etc on this vocab list, that’s because you can just say the English word without worrying about being understood.
വസ്ത്രം vasthram - clothes
ഉടുപ്പ്‌ uduppu - clothes (more colloquial, the native word), also Dress
ഷര്‍ട്ട്‌  shirt
പാന്റ്സ്  paants - pants
അടിവസ്ത്രം adivasthram undergarments
ഷഡി shaddi or ജെഡി jeddi (depending on the dialect, colloquially you can say chaddi like in other South Asian languages) - underwear
നിക്കർ knicker (yes, we know that in some parts of the world “knickers” refers to panties) - Knee length shorts aka boxers
തൊപ്പി thoppi - hat (cap can be the same thing or just “cap”)
ചെരുപ്പ്‌ cheruppu - shoe (shoes can be the same)
ചപ്പൽ chappal - Slippers, flip-flops, other open shoes
Some local stuff: Kurtha and Jubbah (Arabic) is used interchangeably only difference is what we refer to as Jubba is often made from Khaddar (khadi). That pravasi culture unique to Malayalees, we have lots of borrowed Arabic words.
Accessories
മാല maala - necklace, chain
കമ്മല്‍ kamal - earrings
മൂക്കുത്തി mukhtthi - nose ring
വള vala - Bangles
കൊലുസ്സ് ‌ kolusu - Anklets
കണ്ണട kannada - Glasses
Traditional
These are what we’d call some popular South Asian clothing (including our own culture’s clothing) in Malayalam! Also note that a lot of Malayali clothing is divided between “men and women”, but only traditionally and it isn’t strict so you can ignore the binary and wear whatever you want. And when you think about it we all wear mundu and blouse at one point just different styles~ you can see how the styles have evolved from the past, below, although the dhoti one is not real (from movie) should have edited that out.
Tumblr media
സാരി sari - like rest of india we also wear them, except we are known more for white sarees it’s remnants from the old times where everyone mostly wore white.
മുണ്ട് നേരിയത് Mundu Neriyathu or more commonly Settu-saari സെറ്റ് സാരി or Mundu-set മുണ്ട് സെറ്റ് - unique to Kerala, it’s similar to a lehenga and comes in three piece, except the skirt is worn like a mundu and the kara/kasavu (see below) would go right down the middle. Now there are many modern designs and different ways of wearing it (see upper right image)
പാവാട Pavada - skirt
പട്ട് പാവാട Pattu Pavada - (silk skirt) it made from saris, and is also part of half saris which are basically everyday lehengas (it is also worn by young girls instead of full saris)
കസവ് Kasavu - which is gold thread work, often a long thick or thin line along the borders
കര kara - thin or thick line of any color that borders mundu and mundu sarees, if there is kasavu work then kara is woven around or in the designs
മുണ്ട് mundu - a garment worn around the waist) about 2m long worn after folding in half or else it is very see through~ often paired with cotton silk or silk shirt (shiny stuff) traditionally but you’ll see men wear it topless or with whatever shirt they have in a casual setting
കൈലി or കയിലി kailee - (lungi for everyone else) is colorful version of mundu and worn at home or for working in field (check out farmer chettan in bottom right).
**unsure about rest of South India but in Kerala, kailee, like mundu, is long cloth (not as long since it’s thicker material) wrapped around the waist. You sometimes get a skirt-like version but that is not kerala style**
Kailees and mundu have been taking a fashionable turn since Nivin Pauly’s Premam (orange) and with Jayasurya wearing double sided color mundu (black out side red inside).

Mustafa Kamal Class 12 English Notes Chapter 15
Q 1. What was the attitude of the Turkish government towards the Allies after World War I? Answer: The attitude of the Turkish government was slavish towards the Allies. A government formed from the old Liberals was in power in Istanbul. Its members and Padishah himself were eager to cooperate with the Allies. However, they believed that the best interest of the nation was in showing loyalty to the Armistice and co-operation with the occupying forces of the conquerors. Q 2. Why  was Mustafa Kamal sent to Anatolia? Answer: Mustafa Kamal was sent to Anatolia to control the increasing number of the little encounters in the streets of Anatolia from Kiyazim Karabekar along with the undefeated personnel of the Ottoman Army against the Allied control officers. These encounters were causing great fear among the Allies and the people of Istanbul. Being a capable soldier, Mustafa Kamal was the most suitable man to be sent as the representative of Padishah and deal with the situation on spot. Q 3. What was the reaction of the Turkish patriots to the intention of the Allies to partition the Ottoman Empire? Answer: The Turkish patriots were infuriated by the intention of the Allies to partition of the Ottoman Empire. All of them were enraged by this foreign occupation of the richest and most essentially Turkish of their provinces. Turkish patriotism got a new direction, so a flame of indignation started burning in their hearts. Q 4. Write a note on Mustafa Kamal’s activities in Anatolia. Answer: During his stay in Anatolia, Mustafa Kamal met Ali Faut who was the commander of small army corps in Ankara. At a secret meeting of patriots, he made a plan to fight against the Greeks and the Allies. They planned that first of all guerilla bands would hold up Greeks. Meanwhile, the Patriots would build up the National Army without any assistance from the government. Later, Mustafa Kamal set out to tour villages. He asked people to fight against the foreign occupation and appointed representatives in every place to form centres of patriotic revolts. Q 5. Why did Mehmet order Mustafa Kamal to return to Constantinople? Answer: When Mehmet heard of Mustafa Kamal’s activities, he felt that he was working against his government. Therefore, after he realised that he was a threat to his throne, Mehmet ordered Mustafa Kamal to return to Constantinople as soon as possible. Q 6. What  was Mustafa Kamal’s reply? Answer: Mustafa Kamal replied to Mehmet by sending him a personal telegram. He urged him to join him in Anatolia and take lead to fight against the Greeks and all foreign enemies himself in order to save his throne. In response to Mehmet’s order, he said that he was determined to stay in Anatolia until the nation won independence. Q 7. How did Mehmet try to regain Anatolia for himself? Answer: Mehmet tried to regain Anatolia for himself by tact. He did not want the patriots to continue their activities against the Allies, so he called for a government pleasing to them. He asked them to put Mustafa Kamal’s ideas into practice and not to stand in opposition to the Padishah at the same time. They could not imagine their state without a Sultan, whom they considered the shadow of God. All of them agreed to the offer and Mustafa Kamal was left alone. Q 8. Why did his plan fail? Answer: In spite of being abandoned by the patriots, Mustafa Kamal kept fighting for the parliament in Anatolia himself. Mehmet suggested that it should sit in the upland town of Ankara, where it could be centrally situated, well protected, free, and independent of Turkish Allies. However, the Sultan’s plan failed and Mustafa Kamal defeated him. Q 9. What were the terms offered to Turkey by the Allies? Answer: The terms offered to Turkey by the Allies were those of making peace with Mehmet IV. A small and helpless Ottoman Empire was to be entirely under the supervision of the Allied powers. All the Arab provinces were to become Mandated Territories. Entire Eastern Anatolia was to become a part of the state of Armenia around Izmir, which was to be a large Greek district. Cecilia was to go to the French. The Ottoman capital was to be an international centre under the control of Britain, France, and Italy. Under these terms, only the surroundings of Istanbul were to remain a part of the once extensive “Turkey in Europe”. Q 10. Give an account of the Greek attack and its defeat. Answer: On the 21st August 1921, Greeks attacked the Ottoman Empire. The two brave people confronted each other and fought almost man to man for fourteen days under the burning heat of the sun. Mustafa Kamal was the commander-in-chief of Turks, who dominated the Greeks. By the 4thof September, the Greeks were at the end of their strength. On 12th, they crossed Sakarya and began to withdraw and until the end of August 1922, they were clearly defeated. So, Mustafa Kamal and his army moved forward toward the Mediterranean.    Q 11. Give an account of the departure of Mehmet from Istanbul. Answer: The departure of Mehmet from Istanbul took place on November 17, 1922, when a British motor ambulance which stopped by at the side-door of the palace where Mehmet was staying. The luggage was brought out of the palace and placed in the car. Mehmet appeared as an elderly man and a British Officer took his umbrella as he entered the vehicle. The door was then closed and the ambulance drove away. This is how the last of Sultans, Mehmet went on his way to exile.  Q 12. Describe the reforms introduced by Mustafa Kamal with reference to: - (i) the position of women,  - (ii) removal of illiteracy,  - (iii) change in dresses,  - (iv) adoption of the Roman script and  - (v) the industrial and economic development. Answer: After gaining power, numerous reforms were introduced by Mustafa Kamal for the Turkish nation. With reference to the position of women, Mustafa Kamal abolished veil in 1925 because he believed that veil hindered the education of women. He stressed upon the rights of women in terms of higher education at par with men. As for the change in dresses, the old national headdress called Fez was replaced by the hats. Wearing of hats was made compulsory for men. Mustafa Kamal abolished the old script, declared the adoption of the Roman script and demonstrated the new script himself. His educational reforms for women and demonstration and implementation of the new reforms led to the removal of illiteracy. As far as industrial and economic development is concerned, he initiated the construction schemes for railways and motor road. He also encouraged the expansion of heavy industry and organization of banking system. Q 13. Sum up in a few sentences the work of Mustafa Kamal as a great nation builder. Answer: The work of Mustafa Kamal as a nation builder is praiseworthy. He brought changes to all branches of Turkish life. During his time, the mental and political development of the Turkish nation was on the same level as that of Western Europe in the mid-eighteenth century. Within a few years, they reached the height of success achieved by Europe over a long span of one hundred and fifty years. Thus, the Turkish nation owes its democratization, awakening of their spirit and liberation of their power to Mustafa Kamal. The Balancing Act: Fashion and Hay'a (Modesty)
Tumblr media
Is being fashionable un-Islamic?
If not, what role does hay'a (modesty) play in the lives of practicing Muslim women who pursue fashionable dressing?
In this blogpost I’ll de-construct the notion of hay'a in the Islamic context and explore how it impacts the way in which Muslim women dress. To understand the significance of clothing and dress-code within Islam, one must first understand the Islamic conception of hay'a, or modesty. An oft-quoted Quranic verse sheds light on this:
"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their ‘hidden’ adornments (Quran, 24:31)."
This verse of the Quran clearly prescribes modest dressing, understood as clothing which "conceals rather than delineates the contours of the human body." (Rosenberg, 2019), as the religious duty of all Muslim women. This divine command is one most Muslim women submit to such that, while each individual's interpretation of what clothing is considered "modest" varies, you would be hard-pressed to find a Muslim woman who rejects modesty in dress altogether. The importance of hay'a in the realm of clothing is thus a uniting force among Muslim women of various backgrounds, forming a common ground on which debates over what modest clothing should look like play out.
We now turn to the highly contentious realm of fashion: it is in fashion and it's underlying pursuit of aesthetic appeal that we witness the birth of polarizing divisions among Muslim women.
Research in the field, though in its nascent stages, suggests there are two major camps of opposing beliefs that emerge on the topic. On one hand, there are women who outright shun fashionable clothing as it aims to make an individual look more "beautiful" or physically appealing; instead they firmly believe that women should not only dress modestly, but that this dress should be plain, simple and purposely unaesthetic. For these women modest fashion is fundamentally antithetical. In this sense, Islam as a religion and way of life can be interpreted as waging a "war on fashion."
The other side rejects this essentializing rhetoric of fashion as immodest and instead seeks to marry these two worlds: Islam and fashion, within their own style of dressing. These women achieve this merger by turning to the Quranic conception of niyyah, or intention, as a guiding principle and suggest that beauty, as referred to in the Quran, is essentially a good thing and that the desire to appear beautiful is in fact encouraged in many verses such as:
"O children of Adam! We have provided for you clothing to cover your nakedness and as an adornment. However, the best clothing is righteousness. This is one of Allah’s bounties, so perhaps you will be mindful. (Quran, 7: 26)"
However, these women are quick to note that the pursuit of beauty in the form of fashionable dressing must be guided by pure and virtuous intentions. The line of reasoning goes:
"Islam permits, in fact requires, that the Muslim be careful about his appearance, dress decently, maintain his dignity and enjoy what Allah has created for the purpose of clothing and adornment. From the Islamic point of view, clothing has two purposes: to cover the body and to beautify the appearance" (Yusuf Qaradawi et al., 1994).
So, if one chooses to dress beautifully as a way of expressing their identity and in appreciation of clothing as an "adornment,” then a delicate balance is achieved between the ideals of fashion and the ideals of Islam in a way that not only makes space for fashion within Muslim women's lives but encourages it and, in a broader sense, gives momentum to the modest fashion movement. Such is the case for young Kenyan model Ikran Omar and her mother who believe modelling aligns with the Islamic faith so long as it is done within the bounds of modesty (Hanshi and Irungu, 2019). This negotiation is what I term to be the "balancing act" between fashion and the Islamic principle of hay'a and it is this balancing act that informs many women's decisions on what to wear.

Pig
Tumblr media
When Mani Haghighi’s acerbic black comedy “Pig” opens, the camera wheels down a Tehran street following four teenage girls who are babbling to each other while simultaneously checking Instagram on their phones. Their conversation mainly concerns the recent split-up of a celebrity couple. The scene could be taking place anywhere in the world except that, this being Iran, the girls all wear hijabs along with their brightly colored knapsacks. Their happy chatter abruptly ends when a man rushes past them and they turn to see a horrified crowd staring at something in a curbside gutter – a man’s severed head.
The head, in a particularly droll touch, is that of Haghighi, the writer-director of “Pig.” In the film’s central conceit, a murderer is stalking and decapitating Iran’s famous filmmakers, and leaving their heads with the word “pig” (in Farsi) carved in their foreheads. Haghighi, we learn, is the fourth victim (the previous three are named; they are all real directors who are still very much alive). This wacky premise allows Haghighi to do something that other artists must envy: he gets to stage his own funeral (or at least his head’s; the body is never found), complete with maudlin, hypocritical eulogies.
One not-at-all-bereaved mourner at this baleful gathering of the cream of Tehran’s film scene is the movie’s protagonist, Hasan Kasmai (Hasan Majuni), a director who has been blacklisted for two years. The authorities reject any feature he proposes, so he’s reduced to the indignity of directing TV commercials for a bug spray, complete with dancing women dressed up as insects who spit up fake vomit when the gas hits them. When we first see Hasan, before he goes to the morgue to identify Haghighi’s head, he’s in an orange AC/DC t-shirt storming through a trendy Tehran art gallery, where he tells a New York Times reporter (played by the Times’ Thomas Erdbrink) that the decapitations are owed to the fact that “They simply hate us!” But Hasan must also face the additional indignity that the killers perhaps haven’t come after him because they don’t consider him important enough.
If “Pig” doesn’t sound like the kind of Iranian film U.S. art house crowds have seen in the past – well, it is and it isn’t. In 1990, Abbas Kiarostami’s “Close-Up,” about a poor man arrested for impersonating a famous film director, established self-reflexive films-about-filmmakers as a distinctive Iranian subgenre, one often used to interrogate various aspects of Iranian society. In a sense, “Pig” belongs firmly in that tradition. Yet it is also something decidedly novel: a wildly original art-house comedy.
In attending Iran’s Fajr Film Festival the last two years, I was struck by the spirit of renewed artistic vitality I saw in the Iranian films there. That impression inspired me to co-found (with distributor Armin Miladi) the Iranian Film Festival New York, which had its first edition at the IFC Center last month. “Pig,” along with Bahman Farmanara’s “I Want to Dance” and Kamal Tabrizi’s “Sly,” were films in our lineup that exemplify the recent trend toward edgy comedy in Iranian cinema. All three inveigh against various forms of repression in Iran, and all push censorship boundaries in ways that would have been scarcely imaginable a few years ago. (In the case of “Pig,” I still can’t fathom how Haghighi got away with Hasan’s Busby Berkeley-like bug spray spot, since dancing females have long been one of the censors’ big no-nos.)
In a sense, “Pig” is like a double helix that intertwines the personal and the political. The personal side encompasses relationship quandaries that that wouldn’t look out of place in a Woody Allen comedy. Hasan’s blacklisting is giving him problems with his longtime mistress and leading lady Shiva (glamorous, heavily made-up Leila Hatami), who’s contemplating acting in a film by Hasan’s unctuous rival Sohrab Saidi (excellent Ali Mosaffa). Meanwhile, his wife (Leili Rashidi) and a daughter who acts as his assistant (Ainaz Azarhoush) don’t try to rein in his excesses and infidelities as much as shielding him from the various tempests his volatile nature generates. He also must contend with a social media stalker (Parinaz Izadyar), who adores his movies so much she worms her way into his bug-spray chorus line, and an increasingly senile mom (hilarious Mina Jafarzadeh) who’s given to wielding an antique rifle.
The political threads woven into this tapestry, meanwhile, are many and subtle, indicating the widespread but often opaque ways Iran exercises control over its citizens and artists. Though these are details, it’s significant that Hasan doesn’t know what he did to get blacklisted or when the ban will be lifted. The state’s ways are decisive and thorough but mysterious. And if the device of the beheadings strikes foreigners as outlandishly comical, it’s sure to be chilling to Iranians in recalling the “chain murders” of the late ‘90s, when a number of prominent dissidents and cultural figures were brutally murdered by shadowy security operatives (crimes that were dramatized in Mohammad Rasoulof’s “Manuscripts Don’t Burn”).
But the film’s indictment isn’t simply aimed at individual officials or their lethal accomplices. When Hasan says, “They hate us,” he’s indicating a yawning cultural chasm. On one side are the hated: artists, intellectuals and free-thinkers. On the other side are the haters: not only hardliners and their allies in the regime, but also the part of the population that’s intolerant enough to go along with any vindictive persecution of their supposed enemies. In this sense, “Pig” is going after an entire cultural dynamic, one in which art and repression are inextricably opposed.
In 2006, Haghighi and Asghar Farhadi co-wrote the latter’s “Fireworks Wednesday,” the film that, more than any other, arguably inaugurated the current era of Iranian filmmaking. Setting aside the model of contemplative, de-dramatized cinema using non-actors and impoverished or rural settings that filmmakers like Kiarostami and Mohsen Makhmalbaf employed in the 1990s, the new model used movie stars in intricate, plot-driven tales about middle-class urbanites. The approach has taken Farhadi to the Oscars twice in the last decade. And it’s one that Haghighi has now shifted from dramatic to comedic purposes, while maintaining a strong undertow of pointed, purposeful social criticism. The filmmaker and his work deserve to be better known, and “Pig” is an ideal introduction to both for American audiences.

Originally published on Lawn Television commercial (TVCs)2017: A comparison written by Zahra Hassan on Zahra Hassan
With the coming of summer season, comes the foray of launch events of lawns from famous brands. Women look forward to this season all the year and want to buy the best of lawn from the galore of vibrantly printed lawn textiles that throng the local markets. Not only the cities are painted with large hoardings all over but television and social media become replete with lawn catalogs and commercials. The textile owners spend millions of rupees to develop their lawn campaigns every year. These ads are usually the most colorful and eye catching ads of the year. Let us look at the very best lawn television commercial (TVCs) 2017 and try to decide which among these is the top campaign that will attract the maximum buyers.

Khaadi lawn television commercial 2017
Khaadi has been one of the pioneers in making innovative television commercials every year. They use top models and the aesthetic geniuses to design their ad campaigns. Their team of directors and producers always come up with novel and tempting ads.
As you can see from the commercial, colors and flowers are the main theme and it reflects in their collection also. Overall the ad reflects fun and free spirit. There are many models playing around in a homely, traditional and colorful environment. There are lots of birds that is an allegory to freedom. The background score is soft and soothing again with a touch of local folk and it amalgamates beautifully with the video. The colorful collection gets enhanced by the setting of a royal courtyard. The props are unique and again embellish the local feel of the set. If you have not seen it yet, here is the khaadi television commercial lawn 2017.
Sana Safinaz lawn television commercial lawn 2017
Be bold, be unique that is the new lawn mantra by one of the biggest fashion houses of Pakistan Sana Safinaz. A luxuriously designed set complements the colorful collection. Although the ad lacks the color and vibrancy that was essential in most other television commercial lawn 2017, but this TVC is really unique. The ad has an exotic feel to it. White and grey is dominant in the setting. Even in the Sana Safinaz Lawn collection you can see that most of the dresses are combinations of black and whites. White curtain, white floors and white props, if you ask me there is a bit too much white in it for my liking. However the TVC is elegant and aesthetic and will definitely attract a good amount of clientele.

Here is a look at their lawn TVC
Nishat Spring Summer 2017 Lawn Television commercial
Nishat is another big name among the fashion houses. Their collection is always unique and colorful and this time so is their television commercial lawn 2017. Set in the beautiful and scenic Sri Lankan background here we see the models donning beautiful and colorful prints that match the surrounding environment. However due to the foreign location sometimes the attention is taken away by the surroundings instead of the dresses that should have been the main attraction. That makes the Khaadi and Sana Safinaz TVC better as the main focus there remain on the clothing and design and the background enhances the colorful dresses instead of taking away the limelight.
Also read on summer fashion Beach wraps and tulip pants Hottest summer trend in Pakistan
Although the ad may capture the attention of general audience but that would be mainly because of the locality and beauty of the setting than the clothes. Fun, freedom, friendship and travel are the main themes here again. The four ladies featured are high achievers in different field and not regular models but they display good acting and skills and emanates the spirit of living the life to the fullest that the haunting background score also mentions in a sonorous voice.
So Kamal Lawn television commercial 2017
Here we are visiting the enchanting Italy. The first few seconds show no clothing and the ad seems to be a music video or a tourism ad but as things proceed it becomes better and the focus shifts to clothes and not on the scenic country. Although the designs and the clothing do not blend well with the surroundings but still as the collection is quite different form the rest of the collections it does leave an impact. This is one collection that either people will love or hate. There is a lack of colors in the ad. Lawn is supposed to be all about colors and intricate patterns. Even when you are spending a great amount of time and money in creating a commercial take care to infuse the basics in. Take a look at their commercial.
Gul Ahmad Lawn television commercial 2017
For me Gul Ahmad is the clear winner this year for designing a bold campaign celebrating the individuality and imperfections if every woman. ‘Main perfect Hoon’ and rightly said. We see women with unconventional features feeling proud of themselves and their physical appearances. Whether you have curly hair, crooked nose or dark skin, do not care and dress as you please, you are beautiful. The best part is celebrating the tom boy look and saying ‘dress code ka code tor do’ as a girl wear sneakers with shalwar kameez that is considered a big no under normal dressing scheme. Gul Ahmad claim to be the original lawn and their Lawn Television commercial is also quite original this year.

01/7Rakul Preet Singh ups the hotness quotient in all outfits including sarees. PHOTOS!
Though the wardrobes in the showbiz arena are dominated by lehengas, ruffle gowns, sheer dresses, bikini cover-ups and other modern outfits, sarees have their place in every fashionistas’ closet. Even in this era of Indo-western fashion, no modern wear can beat the glamour and elegance of a saree. Blessed with curvaceous figures and washboard abs, modern divas of tinsel town are flaunting their toned midriffs in six-yard staples and proving that beauty can be exhibited in any outfit. Pan-Indian actress Rakul Preet Singh is one among the few Indian divas who can set the hearts racing in sarees.
Despite living a hectic schedule with back-to-back films, endorsements and photo-shoots, the 29-year-old bombshell never misses out on her gym routine and that’s the reason behind her impeccable fitness. Recently, she admitted that her preference towards glamour roles has resulted in lack of proper offers now.

Right from her schooling days in Delhi, Rakul Preet Singh dreamt of becoming an actress and at the age of 18, she forayed into modelling. With a sole intention of earning some pocket money to buy fancy things, the Punjabi belle signed her maiden film in Kannada titled Gilli. Released in 2009, this official remake of Selvaraghavan’s 7G Rainbow Colony garnered favourable response at the box-office and Rakul was praised for her convincing emoting skills and ravishing screen-presence. After Gilli, she returned to college and wrapped up her graduation.

After her education, Rakul Preet Singh participated in Femina Miss India beauty pageant in 2011. Despite failing to grab the main title, the Delhi diva won four subtitles which include Miss Fresh Face, Miss Talented, Miss Beautiful Smile and Miss Beautiful Eyes. After making her Tollywood debut with the low-budget film Keratam, the mesmerising beauty bagged her big break with Venkatadri Express (2013). She also made her Bollywood debut the following year with Yaariyan, but sadly, the coming-of-age romantic-comedy fell flat at the ticket counters.

Gharara Suits- 16 Most Stylish Ideas On How To Wear Ghararas
Gharara Outfits: One of the widely loved and used desi piece of clothing in South Asia, are ghararas. The royal piece of clothing, flared from the knee, has existed from ages and ages now. Traditional, colorful, blingy and a perfect fit for any desi gathering. Be it Pakistani women, Bangladeshi or Indian, living in any part of the world, the craze and love for ghararas is simply undying.
Along with lehengas, shararas, sarees and shalwar kameez or chooridars, ghararas are one of the most often worn and loved desi piece of clothing when it comes to dressing up for South Asian weddings or festivities. For instance, eid outfits, wedding outfits, festivity outfits, get together outfits, that is where ghararas, or the new addition to the gharara family, gharara pants come in handy. Gharara pants are the alternate option to heavy and flared ghararas, which can be worn on a daily basis with lawn kurtis.
What To Wear With Ghararas?
What’s the difference between sharara and gharara? For a lot of people, it is hard to differentiate between a sharara and a gharara, so to break it down for you all, a sharara is a one piece bottom, more like a skirt, with a flared, wide-legged trouser. While a gharara has two separate parts that are joined together ar the knee. This joint is usually hidden with the use of lace or embroidery. Shararas and ghararas are both traditional Indian wear, which originated from the Mughal era and have continued to make its way through the hearts of women around the globe even today, in 2019. The shararas are also more like palazzos in terms of their stitching styles, unlike the ghararas which are differentiated because of their unique stitching style. Additionally, ghararas are also more fitted at the thighs as compared to shararas.
In this article today, we will be talking about the latest gharara styles from 2018 and 2019, ranging from heavy embroidered to light and everyday, wearable for you all to stuff your wardrobe with all the gharara outfits there are. But, before we get into the outfits and its details, here are some quick tips for gharara outfits.
For rather light, subtle wear, gharara pants are a great substitute in place of ghararas.
Gold and silver traditional jhumkas and chandbalis go the best with gharara outfits.
Gharara and sharara outfits are most appropriate for a wedding or festive seasons.
A sharara is a pair of loose trousers paired with dupatta and a shirt. Often decorated with embroidery or glass work. A lehenga or a ghagra is a long full skirt with embroidery or glass work.
A farara is also similar to a gharara, except, it is not ruched at the knee. It’s rather a straight, tight trouser from the thighs with flares at the bottom.
Sharara, gharara, lehenga/ghagra or a farara, they are all traditional South Asian clothing. Accessories play the biggest role in styling these clothes.
Now moving on to the gharara outfits you all have been waiting for.
↓ 16 – Gharara Inspiration For Diwali & Navaratri
Here are some of our favorite Indian ethnic looks with ghararas that you’ll surely find inspirational:
Starting with some celebrity style, we have NoraFatehi’s simple but stunning outfit. A floral gharara with a solid white shirt. The dupatta’s border has been beautifully matched with the border of her gharara. There’s no doubt that dupattas enhance the beauty of any ethnic outfit which is why we highly recommend that you check out these 17 Types Of Dupattas And Tutorial On How To Wear Dupattas.
And here’s a simple but beautiful look for teenagers and young girls:
Located in New Delhi, Kunza Official is another great Indian brand to shop for ghararas. You can also visit their website to shop for gharara sets in the price range of INR 18000 to INR 30000. They’re selling solid colored, printed as well as embroidered and embellished ghararas so you will definitely find something worth buying, or you might end up buying a couple of sets.
↓ 15 – Mother Daughter Matching Ghararas
If you like the idea of dressing up in matching outfits with your little princess then nothing beats the classy ghararas. You can either get your daughter stitched a matching gharara or a lehnga since its easier to carry for young girls. Both of these outfits have been made by Indian designer Kamal Sood.
Here’s another look that sets twinning goals. These outfits are also from the brand Kunza Official.
↓ 14 – Bridal Ghararas
Even though it has been a few years since her wedding, we can not get over the royal vibes of Kareena Kapoor and the gharara she wore for her wedding. She wore a traditional golden embroidered gharara that originally belonged to her mother in law, Sharmila Tagore. However, Kareena chose to get the outfit further embellished by designer Ritu Kumar.
Of course, ghararas are not just ideal for brides but they’re also perfect for the bridesmaid. Here’s a beautiful look by Indian designer Reynu Taandon.
↓ 13 – Trending NOW: White Kurtas With Tie Dye Ghararas
A relatively new designer, Zari Faisal, has come up with the most amazing range of ghararas this year and she has paired them with kurtas from her own collection too. Here you can see one of our favorite trends, a white kurta with tie-dye block print gharara. The price range for her ghararas is between $20 to $50, but you can currently get this particular one on sale for just $11.76.
↓ 12 – Gharara Outfit For Eid
Nothing better and more subtle than a pastel gharara outfit, seen here worn by the beautiful Maryam Ishtiaq, the Pakistani, New York-based based fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger. This outfit is from Suffuse by Sana Yasir, a perfect fit for a day wedding/mehndi/dholki, Eid festivities or any other festive occasion that you possibly have on your calendar. This outfit is a beautiful pleated plain off white gharara with a fully embroidered short shirt and a light purple banarsi dupatta to add some color, yet keeping it subtle and toned down. The shirt also has some colored embroidery here and there just so it does not look too bland. To add some more traditional touch and to complete the look, this beauty has paired the outfit with a pearl and golden choker and some gold earrings.
Here are some more Eid gharara inspirations of our favorite influencers from around the world. For more ideas, you should check out these 2019 Latest Style Eid Dresses Designs for Girls.
↓ 11 – Gharara With Gown
This outfit is from Faraz Abid Sheikhu, FAS Design Studio. A beautiful fusion of modern fashion with traditional gharara fashion. This beauty here is seen wearing a pleated at the bottom gharara with a crop shoulder embroidered satin coat, and a dull green blouse under the gown. I think it is a perfect blend of colors with the green blouse and the grey gharara, almost gharara pants, and grey gown style upper. The color palette of the whole outfit stays the same, dull yet shiny because of the fabric. Do not look away from the tassels on the upper, it could be a perfect fit for a wedding/mehndi/dholki or a festive occasion like Eid or any other.
↓ 10 – Off-shoulder Top With Gharara
Ankita, an Indian, Toronto based creator, and influencer, leaves us absolutely in awe of her and her style with the outfit ideas she outs forward. This beautiful outfit she has been seen wearing here is an embroidered net gharara with a pink embroidered, off one shoulder short shirt and a cute and light net dupatta. The gotta work border on the dupatta looks very royal and shiny, I totally dig this style. Some gold jewelry to go with it, and it’s a look! You can get this whole outfit and fabric stitched at your own, these fabrics are easily available in the local markets at very affordable rates.
↓ 09 – How To Wear A Black Gharara
Another one of the Ankita‘s gharara outfit ideas is this black beauty. Black is usually a very monotone color, so some colorful embroidery on it, or a colorful top with a black dupatta and a lower like this one can put life into a black attire. Here, she has been wearing a black gharara with orange work on it and a black plain dupatta with a colorful mid-length shirt that puts a whole new character in the outfit. To make this rather not-so-blingy outfit more appropriate for an event, she has added some beautiful jewelry to it. Some golden jhumkas, a beautiful, heavy mathapatti – a headband worn with traditional attires, at weddings or festive occasions. This is a full look for an in-house dholki or a sangeet, it’s not too heavy but the accessories take it up a notch. She made up this attire from a local market of India as well.
↓ 08 – The White Beauty
This outfit came out of a collaboration of Hira Attique, the Islamabad based beauty, and fashion blogger, with Sapphire Pakistan, and we can not be thankful enough to both for portraying this beautiful gharara outfit for us. This mesmerizing banarsi dupatta is what I am loving about this look, with a lightly embroidered shirt and gharara. The details of this outfit are to die for, the embroidery above the knee flares and the neck area which is embroidered like beautiful malas for necklaces. The full sleeves with embroidery make the outfit more decent and elegant. This is a really cute and modest look that’s perfect for any religious occasion too like Diwali or Eid. The best part is that this dress has been stitched from a simple 3-piece suit which means that you don’t need to make a lot of effort to bring together an outfit like this.
↓ 07 – Best Gharara Color For Summers
Another one from the collaboration of Hira Attique and Sapphire Pakistan. This light and elegant light purple gharara, which is like coolness to the eyes, a perfect fit for the summer weddings. A beautiful cotton gharara paired with a long shirt and a net dupatta, bringing back the 80’s vibe. The gharara is farshi, which means it is rather long in size and of more width. This fashion blogger has paired this subtle, decent gharara outfit with silver chandbalis and left her hair open. I am a sucker for the traditional gharara styles, so for me, this outfit is the best for any occasion, hands down. So whether you’re hosting a party or attending a get-together with friends, this is the best ethnic look you can go for. The gharara adds royalness to the entire outfit but the color and the fabric keeps it minimal and elegant, nothing over the top and perfect for minimalists like me.
↓ 06 – Pastel Drama
This outfit by Maria B has some top-notch pastel drama going on. Pastel colors have been trending since 2017, and it seems like they are not going to say goodbye to us for a long time, still. And we are not complaining as well. Nothing looks more elegant, classy and royal than traditional wear in pastel colors, of course, bright or dark colors have their own charm and drama going on, but pastel colors are the top trend these days. This mesmerizing Maria B ensemble is a perfect fit for any eid festivity, the colors make it appropriate for lunch and the royal gharara makes it a dinner appropriate outfit as well. Some pearl and silver jewelry to complete the look is not a bad idea at all. This outfit is from the Eid 2018 collection, you can still grab it from the stores or online from the site. And even if it gets out of stock, we’re sure you’ll be able to find something similar and equally elegant from their website.
↓ 05 – Celebrity Style
Another Faraz Abid Sheikhu outfit has been seen here adorned by the beautiful Hira Mani, a Pakistani drama actress. This silk golden shirt and red jamawar gharara is definitely the 90’s vibes. The era of elegance and classiness, which our generation has left miles behind for street style and chic fashion. A golden, silk, gown style short frock, with a fawn colour inner, paired with a bright red jamawar gharara with a golden colour net dupatta. Golden color embroidery on the shirt and on red and gold embroidery on the dupatta make for a great contract with the red gharara. To complete the look, which obviously can not be done without jewelry, she has added jhumkas, neckpiece, and a headpiece set. This is a full wedding look for winters as well as summers.
And next up we have the renowned actress Dia Mirza, wearing a metallic gharara with coral pink embroidered kurta.
↓ 04 – Gharara With Lawn Kurtis
Another trending style this year has been these plain gharara or gharara pants with lawn and chiffon kurtis. It has been seen in the ready to wear collection of many brands, like Kayseria for Eid 2019. This gharara outfit is from the same Eid collection. The bright colour printed kurta from is a must have for this Eid, as we know how hot it is around Eid in most Asian countries. Perfect summer wear for get-togethers or even a casual get together. Pair this outfit with some big, dainty accessories like jhumkas, some golden or silver bangles, and the look is complete. Comfort and trendy both come together in this look, what else can anyone ask for in extreme summer heat? And if you love wearing kurtis, then don’t miss out these 18 Ways to Wear Palazzo with Kurtis.
↓ 03 – Casual Gharara Attire
Same as the Kayseria style, Ego has come out with a Summer collection with ghararas this year as well. Goes to show how much ghararas and gharara pants are trending this year. This casual, subtle yet elegant ensemble from Ego is a must have. The fabric is light and the colour sure is like pleasing to the eyes. Because of the short peplum shirt, you get those 90s vibes from this outfit, without being outdated in terms of fashion. This tea pink color is also trending this year if you have not noticed already going through the latest collections. Some silver bangles and jhumkas or chandbalis to complete the look would be like a cherry on the top.
↓ 02 – Semi-Formal & Formal Style Ghararas
Fatima Irfan Sheikh, the beauty and fashion Instagram and youtube influencer, also known by the name of her page Glossips, was seen wearing this fawn colour gharara outfit from Maria Nasir Online. Off topic, but don’t you absolutely love this girl’s gorgeous hair and hair colour, I’m personally a fan. This gorgeous beauty, wearing this fawn net attire is giving us major gharara outfit goals. Ideal for any event where all your relatives are present because let’s be clear, you would want to flaunt this dress in front of everyone, won’t you? A plain net dupatta and a plain net gharara paired with an embroidered short shirt. This brand is originally located in Norway but they ship worldwide and Pakistani influencers have become their fans. Don’t you want to try this brand out too?
↓ 01 – Gharara Pants
Another one of outfit from Ankita but this one is the substitute, the gharara pants. More comfortable, easily carryable, and chic and they can be pulled off on everyday clothes.
For a more casual, everyday look, you can opt for plain gharara pants and wear them with any of your favorite shirts and kurtis:

Having a palate of brighter tones – florescent accents and Deeper Hues, So Kamal created a wardrobe to cater a woman of every walk of life. They also introduced the Athleisure Line focusing on volume harem pants – cuff jackets and so kamal logo tees. The Evening line consisted of big emphasis on details of Sequence, cut pipes, gottas and beaded embellishments and floral colored embroideries. Ruffles and bows accentuated the mid-day look of the garments. Along with Ethnic-geo motives with luxe skirts, overs sized tunics – adorned capes draped gowns and textured crushed fabrication which enlightened the collection.
An eclectic collection rooted in the glamour and decadence of the eighties. A decade of bold style and even bolder women. The collection comprised of flamboyant yet easy to wear silhouettes featuring clashing animal prints in punchy primary colors. The ‘Wild Things’ glamorous display was a pleasure to watch and remarkably loved by all. Mawra Hocane was the showstopper.
Fashion powerhouse Nomi Ansari joined forces with Pakistan’s leading online sportswear brand, Tuhura Athletics, to debut a luxury active-wear collection. The limited-edition capsule, inspired by the designer’s active on-the-go lifestyle and retro style, featured a variety of silhouettes and colors. The collection ranged from head-to-toe animal prints, full monochromatic studio-to-street styles, fierce neon sets and must-have metallic windbreakers.  The display stood out as models strutted down the runway in athleisure wear while busting moves making the walk twice as exciting and fun. The 20 set collection, will be available exclusively from mid-April at www.tuhuraathletics.com. Hania Amir was the showstopper for Nomi Ansari.
A luxury street-wear capsule collection by Republic by Omar Farooq explored the evolution of symbolism from a form of basic communication to that of self-representation and anarchic expression. Much like the clothes that played on the balance between past construction and present deconstruction on a palette of subtle creams just positioned with fluorescent neon shades, challenged the contrasting idea of how the same symbol can be both favorable for one culture and baneful for another. Neon shirts, vests and stripes on single toned suits added a pop of color to sophisticated menswear sprucing up the runway looks. Sheheryar Munawar was the showstopper. The iconic fashion force, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin celebrated 2019 as his 25th year in fashion and one in which he comes full circle with the HSY brand. HSY’s journey has been one with his mother; his guiding light as a strong icon of an empowered and empowering woman. In an ode to their bond, the collection was titled ‘Rani’, his mother’s nickname and ‘queen’. The pieces were a clear depiction of powerful, independent, free-spirited and elegant women. The collection pieces were mostly all red and had patterns which were hand-made and the fabrics used were georgettes woven out of silk yarn, predominately based in a monochromatic color palette ‘red’ because the color has a special significance in HSY’s life as the first color he saw when he got his sight back, 25 years back.
Amongst the tastefully lit lighting and décor were famous faces with the likes of Nasreen Sheikh, Sehyr and Naseem Saigol, Amna Taseer, Wasim Akram, Frieha Altaf, Meera Jee, Mawra Hocane, Sheheryar Munawar, Alyzeh Gabol, Hania Amir and many more. The show was an exceptional preview of what’s in store for Pakistan’s fashion-lovers this Spring/Summer season.

Fox News Condemns Jeanine Pirro’s Attack On Rep. Ilhan Omar
This post was originally published on this site
Fox News issued a statement Sunday saying the network strongly condemns Jeanine Pirro’s attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).
On Saturday, the Fox News host said Omar wears a hijab because the Koran “tells women to cover so they won’t get molested.” She also said the congresswoman’s religious dress may be “antithetical to the Constitution.”
The First Amendment guarantees religious freedom and free speech rights.
Statements from Fox News and @JudgeJeanine re her commentary about @IlhanMN that was widely condemned as Islamaphobic. pic.twitter.com/yTEJZ0Zmfg
— Yashar Ali 🐘 (@yashar) March 11, 2019
Fox offered no details about any possible consequences for Pirro.
There was no immediate response from Omar.
The hijab attack was part of Pirro’s insinuation that Omar’s criticism of Israel must also be coming from her Sharia handlers:
Fox host Jeanine Pirro says that Ilhan Omar’s hijab may mean that she’s against the Constitution. pic.twitter.com/yxGRVoYkQm
— John Whitehouse (@existentialfish) March 10, 2019
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the U.S., demanded that Fox News fire Pirro.
“Such an open and un-American expression of religious bigotry should be rejected by any media outlet seeking even a modicum of credibility,” CAIR national executive director Nihad Awad said in a statement provided to Huffpost. “Jeanine Pirro should be fired, and Fox News should apologize to its viewing audience.”
Pakistani American Hufsa Kamal, a producer on the “Special Report with Bret Baier,” reminded Pirro that she actually works with Muslims at Fox News:
@JudgeJeanine can you stop spreading this false narrative that somehow Muslims hate America or women who wear a hijab aren’t American enough? You have Muslims working at the same network you do, including myself. K thx. https://t.co/ZfKhRhlvM3
— Hufsa Kamal (@hufkat) March 10, 2019
Pirro’s stance was also roundly criticized on Twitter:
Jeanine Pirro is a disgrace. Ilhan Omar’s right to wear hijab in accordance with her religious convictions is as constitutional as an Orthodox Jewish woman’s right to wear a sheitel. Anything less is un-American. https://t.co/O4fpTJujao
— Bret Stephens (@BretStephensNYT) March 10, 2019
Wearing a hijab is not “antithetical to the the U.S. constitution” as Judge Jeanine would like to have us believe. To the contrary, it is an embodiment of the very spirit of our constitution.
Freedom of religion means freedom for everyone – not just the majority.
— Deena Keilany (@deenakeilany) March 11, 2019
Will Pirro now question all who also observe their religious dress codes about their loyalty to the US Constitution? Asking for a Jehovah, Orthodox Jewish, Amish, Sikh, Baha’i, Catholic,… friend
— N.J.Qadir Chaudhry (@njqrn) March 10, 2019
And Mormon! 🙋🏻‍♀️ We’ve got some quirky clothing issues…
— Verity Pace (@VerityPace) March 10, 2019
Or Catholic nuns
— Michael Griffin (@GoonerGriff) March 10, 2019
THE HAT YOU WEAR LOOKS REALLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Is that what she’s yelling? Because I yell that at the red hats all the time.
— Meagan Paullin (@SunandSipCups) March 10, 2019
Religious freedom apparently isn’t one of Jeanine’s core beliefs.
— Mr_Scorpio (@Mr_Scorpio) March 10, 2019
Someone should let her know the Bible violates the Constitution…pretty sure the 13th and 19th Amendments fly in the face of Exodus 21:7…
— Michael Crommett (@CrommettMichael) March 10, 2019
There was a time ppl like her said JFK could not be loyal to the US b/c he was Catholic. Times chg. Hate & lies haven’t. Pirro is a liar, hate filled & a hypocrite pic.twitter.com/USL1KHdYkN
— Ken Padgett (@trngchief11) March 10, 2019
