Working on some Sandman stuff and I realized that Dream loves so deeply (like throws his whole being into a romance that literally just started days ago; the type of guy who'd most definitely say "I love you" in a week, and the type of guy who'd try to make a paramour the regent to the Dreaming in less than a year).

All because his own parents never gave him love and affection. You can't exactly have your own ideal of what a healthy (romantic and familial) relationship looks like when your parents had a bunch of kids, but called quits on their relationship immediately after and can't stand to be in each other's presence. You also can't have the basis of what a healthy relationship looks like when your father has blatant favoritism toward your elder brother. And your mom? Somehow worse, in the regard that she heavily favors Dream and isn't bothered to keep up with her other children, much less remember the smallest details about them.

#Like I really wonder if the once a year family dinner's where Death's idea #It feels like Death's idea #Because there's no way any of the other endless would have come up with #I don't think they're as bad as Dream in that they're capable of expressing their emotions fully but I also think #that they just don't have a basis for what a healthy familial relationship should look like #So I'm very much leaning toward the idea that Death behaving like a mortal once a year and seeing how humans interact with each other #gave her this idea to try and get the family together for dinner once a year as well #Like she is both parentified and suffering from eldest daughter syndrome at the same time #In a way where it makes sense why every single one of the endless is the way they are #Why they're all constantly fighting with each other #and why they have all these arbitray rules about staying in their own lane #never helping each other #or rules about being in a relationship with a mortal #This is also me pushing my hidden agenda of Hob taking over these family dinners #And cooking a giant meal #and trying to make these endless dinners as jovial as he possibly can #god help him though #At least they he might be successful enough to upgrade the dinner to once a year plus something like Christmas #the sandman #When will I ever learn to not type out a whole essay in the tags? #Probs never #cryptid speech #the sandman meta
