GOD I LOVE EXPERIMENTAL INDIE HORROR. I LOVE DISSECTING THE MOST PRIMAL AND INSTINCTIVE FEARS A PERSON HAS AND DISPLAYING THEM IN SUCH A VISCERAL MANNER THAT IT CREATES AN EXPERIENCE THAT STICKS WITH YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I LOVE TAKING ELEMENTS OF CHILDHOOD FEAR MIXED WITH A YOUTHFUL LACK OF UNDERSTANDING AND A GENERAL SENSE OF HELPLESSNESS AND USING IT TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT COULD TERRIFY EVEN THE MOST FEARLESS OF PEOPLE. I LOVE FINDING OUT WHAT PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF ATTEMPTING TO REPLICATE THE EXACT EXPERIENCE THAT CAUSED THAT FEAR. I LOVE HORROR THAT RELIES ON SUSPENSE RATHER THAN JUMPSCARES AND SCARY MONSTER DESIGNS AND PUTS YOU INTO THE PROTAGONIST'S SHOES WHILST STILL REMAINING VAGUE ENOUGH FOR YOUR OWN IMAGINATION TO CREATE SOMETHING SO MUCH MORE TERRIFYING IN THE UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE OF EACH AND EVERY VIEWER OF THE CONTENT EFFECTIVELY CREATING SOMETHING THAT CAN TERRIFY ANYONE NO MATTER HOW HARDENED THEY MIGHT BE, WHILST STILL MAINTAINING AN INTRIGUING YET VAGUE NARRATIVE STRUCTURE.

ok so i watched skinamarink and wow. half the reviews said it was boring and overhyped and the other half said it was the scariest movie theyd ever seen. and yeah after watching i can say what side im on. i dont think ive been this afraid of something i watched since i first saw the walten files. id make a big in depth post about my thoughts and feelings on it but its very late, so im going to try to go to sleep and maybe ill write up something more cohesive tomorrow. dont expect me to have sweet dreams, though

Ok so like, this is just more of an interesting thing I thought abt bc I am a system but what if the monster in skinamarink is a persecutor type alter? Like the phrase "I will protect you" just confused me and the ending where he's dragged Kevin into the void kinda reminded me of being forcibly brought into headspace. That sort of floaty feeling, the fact that he's completely alone
Idk it's just an interesting lens to look through imo
