I'm making it a point to go back and read some classic graphic novels on my trusty Kindle (through Kindle Unlimited.)

First off is Batman: Hush by the legendary trio of writer Jeph Loeb, drawn by Jim Lee and inked by Scott Williams. This story has the top tier Gotham villains, the Bat-Family and even takes place outside of dark Gotham in the bright city of Metropolis.

If you haven't read it. You need to. The story is awesome and Lee's art with Williams' lines are breathtaking. And what's crazy is that this storyline came out 20 years ago.

It was announced late yesterday that Jay Briscoe (real name Jamin Pugh) of the legendary tag team The Briscoe Brothers had passed away after being involved in a fatal car crash.

The 38-year old was a 20-year veteran in the Pro Wrestling business holding tag team titles with his brother Mark all over the world. They are currently the Ring of Honor tag team champions having defeated FTR in a brutal double dog collar match at ROH Final Battle.

May Jamin Rest in Peace. We send out condolences and thoughts to the Pugh family.

Prolific writer Alan Grant has passed away at the age of 73. His wife, Sue Grant, announced Alan passed this morning. #AlanGrant began his work in comics in 1967, when he became an editor for D.C. Thomson. He left in 1970 to work for IPC on romance magazines, but would become best known for his work with the character of #JudgeDredd with John Wagner in the pages of the science fiction series ‘2000 AD’ during the 1980s.

Beginning in 1988, Alan Grant along with John Wagner began writing for #DC Comics, with Grant beginning his legendary run on the #Batman character in Detective Comics #583; This issue introduced the Batman villains the #Ventriloquist & #Scarface in Grant and Wagner’s “Fever”. The following arc debuted The #Ratcatcher, recently seen in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” (2021), written by Grant and Wagner in Detective Comics #585.

Throughout the 1990s, Alan Grant would help shape the evolving Batman mythos in several publications, including developing #TimDrake into the 3rd #Robin in ‘Batman’ arcs such as “Identity Crisis” with #NormBreyfogle and Steve Mitchell. Grant’s runs in ‘#DetectiveComics’ to ‘Batman: Shadow of the Bat’ are some of the most memorable, including his introductions of Jeremiah Arkham, Victor #Zsasz, and Amygdala in the arc “The Last #Arkham”.

As Grant contributed to classic Batman storylines such as “Knightfall”, "Contagion", "Legacy", and "Cataclysm", he also co-created along with Breyfogle the Batman universe character #Anarky, mirroring his own personal, philosophical transformation within the era, and penned the graphic novel inter-company crossover series ‘Batman / Judge Dredd’. Writing for publications such as #DCComics, Marvel Comics, and Dark Horse Comics, Grant would continue to work over the next two decades.

Alan Grant’s dominating presence within the comics world, enhanced by the wit and humanity that permeated in his tales, has and will continue to be one of the most influential for fans and colleagues alike. The cover to Amazing Spider-Man 28 has always been one of my favorite covers.

Drawn by Steve Ditko, the use of mostly dark shadows to highlight Molten Man and hide Spidey always fascinated me as a kid.

I originally saw it in the reprint from Marvel Tales 166 which flipped the original cover. Even now 30 years later, its a beautiful cover.

Going to attempt a deep dive in the land of Big G: Gojira aka Godzilla. Starting at the beginning with the classic Gojira/Godzilla (1954.)

I saw this with @gemini_badass_ at the Film Forum for the 60th anniversary. The 70th anniversary is looming large in 2024. Directed by legendary director Ishirō Honda and based on a story by Shigeru Kayama, it tells the story of a fire-breathing kaiju (monster) that terrorizes Japan after an atomic bomb test awakens it from its centuries-old sleep.

It would spawn countess sequels as well as many imitators. Let's see how many in a row I can get through before the end of the year. And of course I'm watching them in the original Japanese with English subbing. I'll show Raymond Burr some love at a later time.

Its been a while since I've posted a public library graphic novel post. For today I have the graphic novel adaptation of Mary Shelley's Gothic novel Frankenstein.

The publisher is Classical Comics @classcomeducation who produces graphic novels and teaching resources to encourage reading and literacy in schools.

The art is stunning so far. The monster is drawn in shadow to further illustrate the dark nature of the source material. The text is somewhat abridged but comes straight from the original text of Shelley's novel. I've gotten to chapter 2 of the story. Look forward to the rest of the story.

Congrats to the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes. The ending was not better than when Drew won the Rumble in 2022 but it delivered a great building up for Gunther. And the spot between Paul and Ricochet was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Speaking of Paul, Jake Paul vs Seth Rollins at Mania is going to be insane. And thankfully Brock didn't dominate the Rumble. We've seen that already.
