Kannaur Lokesh Rahul was born in a highly educated family. His father, KN Lokesh, is a professor in Civil Engineering Department of NIT (National Institute of Technology) Karnataka and his mother Rajeshwari was a professor at Mangalore University. In fact, he spent the majority of his childhood on the campus of NIT Karnataka and it was on the grassless grounds of the college campus that he used to play cricket as a young boy. His parents identified his potential and decided to give him formal cricket coaching. The rest, as they say, is history.

KL Rahul started from U-19 cricket and slowly made his way into Karnataka’s first-class cricket team, making his debut in 2010. KL Rahul Biography: Kannur Lokesh Rahul or KL Rahul as he is called is a superstar in the making in Indian Cricket. Rahul is a Test and T20I regular in Virat Kohli’s young Indian team but the opening batsman finds it difficult to pierce into the ODI set-up because of the Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s stellar opening pair. KL Rahul Early Days
KL Rahul was born on 18 April 1992 in Mangalore, Karnataka to KN Lokesh and Rajeshwari. His father is a professor and former director at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka in Surathkal, Mangalore while his mother Rajeshwari is a professor of history in the University of Mangalore.In a recent controversial interview to Karan Johar in Koffee with Karan, Rahul said it was because of Shah Rukh Khan’s name in the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai that he was named Rahul.
Rahul started playing cricket at the age of 11. At the age of 18, he moved to Bangalore to study at Jain University and pursue his cricketing career. He completed his Bachelors in Commerce degree.
KL was picked up for the Under 19 World Cup in 2010. In the tournament, he made 143 runs.
KL Rahul Domestic Career
KL Rahul made his first-class debut in the 2012-13 season for Karnataka. In the next season 2013-14, he plundered 1033 runs. He was also the second highest scorer of the tournament.
In 2014-15 Duleep Trophy final playing for South Zone, he scored a century in both the innings. 185 off 233 balls in the first innings and a 130 off 152 balls in the second innings. However, he couldn’t get his team past the finish line as South Zone lost by a mere 9 runs. He won the Man of the Match for this performance and also earned a Test call up for the Australia series down under in 2014.
In the 2014-15 season, Rahul scored a triple century becoming the first player from Karnataka to score a triple century in first-class cricket. He scored a mammoth 337 off 448 balls against Uttar Pradesh. In the finals against Tamil Nadu, he scored another big knock of 188 runs. He finished the season at an average of 93.11 from 9 matches.
KL Rahul International Career
The 27-year-old made his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Captain MS Dhoni handed him his Test Cap. He came into bat at number 6 in the first innings and number 3 in the second, scoring 3 and 1 respectively.
In the second Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, he scored his first Test century. Rahul scored 110 after opening the innings with Murali Vijay.
In the second Test against Sri Lanka, he got an opportunity as both Murli Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan were injured. He scored his second Test century – a brilliant knock of 108 runs which included 14 fours and a six which helped India level the series.
On 11 June 2016, he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe and scored a century becoming the first Indian cricketer to score a century on debut.
On 18 June 2016, Rahul made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe. He was out for a duck becoming the first Indian batsman to be out for zero on the first ball of a T20 match.
In the second Test at Jamaica against the Windies, he scored an amazing 158. Later in the T20I series in the United States, he scored a century off only 46 balls, the fastest by an Indian batsman. Rahul set the record for the fastest batsman to have scored centuries in all three formats in just 20 innings surpassing the record of Ahmed Shehzad who took 76 innings.
KL Rahul in Indian Premier League
Rahul was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013 but was bought for Rs. 1 Crore in 2014 by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He returned to the RCB in 2016, scoring 397 runs from 14 matches. He made a huge sum in the 2018 IPL auction.
Franchises were at a tug of war to pick him in their team. Finally the Kings XI Punjab closed the bid for Rs. 11 Crore. The same season he scored the fastest T20 half-century in the history of IPL off just 14 balls.
