Really sorry if this has already been asked, I couldn't find it anywhere. You said Veronica Mars was one of the inspirations for TC, what were the others? Love your work, can't wait to play the game!
Besides Veronica Mars, I also happened to watch Jessica Jones and Stumptown around that time, which cemented my desire to write about a jaded private eye MC just trying their best, dealing with events from their past that haunt them.
The MC is at an all time low when we meet them, which I think most of us can relate to--especially now. I wanted to write about them healing and finding their place in the world, as well as opening up to others and learning that asking for help doesn’t make them weak. Most of that revolves around the romance, just so I can keep the scope of the game manageable, but they form friendships as well in each route.
Of course, Twin Peaks served as an inspiration too. (It’s one of my favorite TV shows.) There’s a few references I snuck in there lol. It mostly served as an inspiration for the setting.
And I’ve always loved murder mysteries and thrillers.
But I wanted to bring some paranormal into it. And romance. There’s no direct inspiration for those elements, other than the many, many paranormal romances I read on Kindle Unlimited during quarantine lol. But I’ve always liked monsters. I read Twilight as a tween, watched True Blood as a teen, and now I read any halfway decent paranormal romance I can find. So, I wanted to write about some of my favorite supernatural creatures, but put my own spin on them when I could. There’s a lot of tropes in PR I’m not a fan of and I wanted to do them better or subvert them entirely.
And mysteries can get a whole lot crazier if there’s paranormal elements involved.
Fairytales and folklore, especially Celtic, are also a huge inspiration. The fae are inspired mostly by Irish or Scottish folklore. And I’ve always loved fairytales and retellings of them. I wrote my senior thesis on fairytales, so I’ve done just so much research on them lol. Some of you may be able to notice the fairytale inspirations for many of the plotlines in the game.
