Different Intelligence Collection Disciplines

Intelligence refers to helpful information derived after planning for, collecting, processing, and analyzing raw data in the intelligence cycle. The intelligence is then given to consumers or end users for policy and decision-making. Intelligence can be strategic, tactical, or operational, depending on the end-user and purpose.

One of the primary and oldest intelligence collection disciplines is human intelligence (HUMINT), which refers to information from human sources. Spies, confidential informants, diplomats, and military attaches collect HUMINT in the military and espionage worlds. It remains the primary intelligence collection method, and in most cases, other disciplines only serve to reinforce HUMINT.

The familiar intelligence mining sources for open and unclassified HUMINT collection include conferences, interrogation centers in refugee camps, prisoners of war, legal foreign travelers debriefing, and unclassified publications. The travel debriefings consist of questions for individuals who have traveled to other countries legally for various purposes, including work, especially for high-profile staff like those working in intelligence and military systems research and development. The questions typically include any diversion of itinerary, contact or approach by a foreign national, and possible surveillance. However, classified and sensitive HUMINT sources include recruited or volunteered agents. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) collects HUMNIT in the United States. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) collects the same outside the United States.

Signals intelligence (SIGINT) is from electronic transmissions emitted by ground sources, ships, satellites, and planes. The National Security Agency (NSA) intercepts communications by using communications intelligence (COMINT), electronic intelligence (ELINT), and foreign instrumentation signals intelligence (FISINT). COMIT is the easiest to acquire since it moves over airwaves, fiber, cable, and other transmitters. ELINT comprises noncommunication mediums such as radar, while FISINT uses sensors and other devices to intercept the telemetry of weapons and space systems. Telemetry is the automatic recording and transmission of information from remote or inaccessible locations for monitoring and analysis.

Measurement and signature intelligence (MASINT) uses scientific and technical information from data analysis on information from technical sensors. MASINT mainly focuses on information patterns that must be explored and comprises radar, infrared, telemetry, acoustic, and nuclear intelligence. It aims to use the analysis to identify distinctive characteristics associated with the data source and the sender. Since most sources or patterns are unknown, MASINT compares the data with known forms or types and seeks the closest match. The intelligence facilitates the measurements and identification of that sender or emitter.

Geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) combines imagery and geospatial information. The military and civilians use GEOINT to map and track changes in geographical features, such as soil erosion, farming, and desert expansion. Image intelligence analysis, called IMINT, comprises electronic or optical representation of objects on a display screen, film, and other media. The intelligence team sources IMINT from visual photography, lasers, sensors, and electro-optics and produces them in hard or soft copy for analysis and dissemination. However, adverse weather and poor lighting can degrade the quality and usefulness of IMINT.

Open-source intelligence (OSINT) uses publicly available materials that collate and analyze data to detect patterns or gain meaningful intelligence. OSINT typically provides information on research activities, for example, from scientists taking part in a project, organization dynamics, and technical processes. The organizational dynamics include the hierarchical structures in sensitive institutions like the military and research and development agencies involved in national security. OSINT is frequently used for intelligence on technical processes like design documentation for military systems since it is possible to source data and trade secrets from technical journals and manuals.

Raccoon Amaru - Canon divergent post season 2. With Kate surviving the blood well and Seth bringing her back to Jeds from the hospital to recover, Amaru finds herself in a different vessel.

La Jefe - Canon divergent post season 2 episode 9. At the blood well Kate stays up on the hill with Richie. It’s only after he’s gone down to try to take the blood for himself, in a move that is peak dumbass, that Kate has to intervene. With Richie wounded by a Xiblaban weapon and lying useless in the backseat of the car it’s up to Kate to deliver the blood and unwittingly become the new La Jefe, the head of Malvado’s empire. Seth lives his best life as a sugar baby and Richie is crying in a corner because he's supposed to be the boss.

Wild West AU - Wild West likely with supernatural elements. Kate frees Seth from the jail in Bethel the night before he's set to hang in exchange for him helping her track down her brother who disappeared with Carlos six months earlier. (Also the memorial piece for my mare, Bandit, who passed away almost a year ago and will be written in as Seth's horse.)

SethKate Wedding Date AU - Modern Day. No culebras. Kate is invited to her cousin's wedding and decides to ask Seth to be her date

“He’s not just my date, Scott.” A maniacal grin spreads over Kate’s face. “He’s my weapon. You really think I’m gonna walk in there with all their passive aggressive, pretending to be concerned comments? No, Scott. I’m going to fight fire with fire.” “That’s not fighting fire with fire Kate. That’s fighting fire with a nuclear warhead!”

Shangri-La - Canon divergent post season 2. With Eddie in critical condition and his chances of survival slim, the Geckos chose to go through with the plan to rob Malvado, even managing to save Kate’s life in the process. After coming back from their meeting with the lords, their relief at the news of Eddie’s survival is soon eclipsed by the sheer panic of realizing they now have to explain to him that not only did they pull his Shangri-La, swan song job without him, but they also lost the money.

Hero Twins AU - Canon divergent post season 2 episode 2. Kate reveals to Seth that she's pregnant during their fight in the car. After Sonja gets Seth clean, and with Eddie's help they hide away from the culebra world. 7 years later Richie and Kisa come crashing in with the news that their daughters are the next set of Hero Twins, destined to shake up the culebra and Xibalban hierarchy.

This leans very heavily into Mayan mythology, including a bibliography of academic sources, that will be included. It could be considered an exploration of the hero twin archetype told through Seth and Kate's fictional twins.

Witch AU - Modern day with supernatural elements. No culebras. Kate comes from a line of witches cursed to die when they begin to manifest their magical abilities. When she starts to have visions of her own death she goes to a professor of the occult Richard Gecko to try to figure out why her family keeps dying young. A witch himself, he tries to help her figure out the curse along with Seth who has turned his back on his supernatural abilities. It's a race against the clock to see if they can save Kate before her visions of her death come true.

Selkie AU - Coming home from college to attend her mother's funeral, Kate finds a package Jenny had left her. Kate's seal skin and an explanation of what she is. After going out to learn more about who she is her skin is stolen and she has to rely on the owner of a nearby bar, Seth Gecko, and his friends to steal back her skin.

Rev. Dr. Charles Kenzie Steele (born February 17, 1914 - August 19, 1980) was a preacher and a civil rights activist. He was one of the main organizers of the 1956 Tallahassee bus boycott and a prominent member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. On March 23, 2018, Florida Governor Rick Scott signed CS/SB 382 into law, designating portions of Florida State Road 371 and Florida State Road 373 along Orange Avenue in Tallahassee as C.K. Steele Memorial Highway.

He was the son of a coal miner, an only child. At a young age, he knew that he wanted to be a preacher, and he started preaching when he was 15 years old. He graduated from Morehouse College. He began preaching in Toccoa and Augusta, Georgia, and in Montgomery at the Hall Street Baptist Church (1938–52). He moved to Tallahassee, where he started preaching at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He met Martin Luther King Jr. when he was on his way to Tallahassee.

The Tallahassee bus boycott began in May 1956, during the Montgomery bus boycott. Like other bus boycotts during the Civil Rights Movement in America, it started because African American people were forced to ride in the back of the bus, and when two students refused to give up their seats to a white woman, they were arrested. An organization was formed to protest and boycott the city bus system. The organization was called Inter-Civic Council and he was elected president. He and other protesters boycotted the system by starting carpools and the bus system stopped for the first time in 17 years on July 1. He was arrested many times during this period.

He was the lead plaintiff in the school desegregation suit, which led to the desegregation of public schools in Leon County. He was a part of many other protests, marches, and boycotts, where he helped to accomplish integration in many public places. He helped Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. organize the SCLC in 1957. He was made the First Vice President under Dr. King at the time of the formation of SCLC.

Air and Space Forces Association Initiatives to Further Education

The Air & Space Forces Association (AFA), established in 1946, protects and promotes strong air and space power for national security. It has over 140,000 active duty and former armed forces members. AFA’s core mission is to secure adequate military resources, support air and space force personnel, and raise public awareness about the societal benefits of aerospace technology.

The association’s educational initiatives are central to its mission. AFA runs CyberPatriot, a national program encouraging K-12 students to pursue cybersecurity and STEM careers through various educational initiatives. The program’s highlight, the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, challenges middle and high school students to secure virtual networks and maintain critical systems, simulating real-world IT jobs. Other key components include summer cyber camps to teach cyber safety hands-on, elementary school modules on basic online safety, and a senior cyber education program and caregiver certification to help older groups avoid common scams.

Furthermore, the Doolittle Leadership Center, a division of the Air Force Association, is committed to accelerating leadership development at all levels through specialized training programs and workshops. Rather than relying solely on experiential learning over time, the center aims to expedite leader growth. It mentors cadets at their facility and annually offers customized coaching to hundreds of airmen and guardians stationed at nine bases worldwide.

Every year, the Air Force Association awards over $230,000 through its scholarship program to support the higher education pursuits of airmen, guardians, and their families across various undergraduate and graduate fields of study. The scholarships, ranging up to $10,000 for pilot training courses, are renewable yearly. The organization accepts applications each winter, announcing selections the following summer. Past recipients have said that AFA scholarships significantly empowered them to achieve their career aspirations and dreams.

In addition to scholarships, the association awards competitive education grants annually to empower innovative teachers. This amount is supplemented by smaller grants supporting aerospace education initiatives through Civil Air Patrol and JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps) programs. AFA’s $20,000 Educator Grants enable 40 projects annually, which are evaluated for their potential impact. Clear (original fic inspired from another dream I had years ago that takes place in the late 90′s. The Woods (a silverchair AU fic that’s been abandoned for years that, honestly, I might just turn it into an original fic with taking out the band and coming up with other original characters lol. A band takes a trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, where they make camp. During their stay, they encounter something else lurking in the woods that they accidentally bring back with them once they try to leave.)
