Want to know how we cut out 50-75% of our food expenses at Disney without feeling like we are missing anything? Splitting food! None of us are going to eat an entire funnel cake by ourselves. We don’t need 4 of them. Portions at Disney are very generous so in most cases it is really easy to share a snack between the 4 of us and everyone tries a few bites and we are on to the next thing. Sometimes we get 2 and split in half, but it is rare that we ever order 4 of anything. This keeps us from quite literally throwing a lot of money in the trash can with unfinished food, or eating ourselves sick. It also frees up money for a bigger variety of snacks too. Even at counter service restaurants, the kids and I will often share an adult meal because none of us eat that much in one sitting. This trick doesn’t apply for your table service or character dining in particular, but on the frequent festival snacks, and counter service meals we have ordered, it has made a huge difference in our spending. Wanna save time checking out with your new Disney souvenirs? 🧭There is a new feature testing within the Walt Disney World app that allows you to skip the checkout line by scanning your own items. It isn’t widely available yet, but we tried out the feature at Epcot’s Mouse Gears where there are only 2 register stations currently available and found it to be very simple and convenient. I also loved that I could use the bag walking around the store so I didn’t have to juggle the merchandise on the way to the register 😂 The app also automatically applied our passholder discount so there was no chance to miss out because you forgot the card, or didn’t ask for it. 💰 All you have to do to take advantage of this time saving feature is 📱 open the Disney World app on your phone 📱 hit the + in the bottom center 📱 hit shop in store 📱select your store (currently it is available at Mouse Gears and the gift shop for Pop Century resort) 📱 scan your items and place in the provided clear bag 📱 show a screen shot of your phone to the Cast Member at the exit That’s it, you’re on your way. No line necessary. If you scanned as you shopped all you have to do is hit the checkout button and it will even use your saved preferred payment method. You don’t even have to drag out your wallet. Did you know there is a way to get FREE food at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival? Pick up a festival passport when entering the park and flip to the last page. If you order each the dishes listed there (usually around 5 different dishes from different booths around the park) the Cast Members will stamp your passport for each snack you try. When you fill your passport with all 5 stamps you can redeem it for an extra exclusive snack for free! That is a great way to try some of the best items at the festival and get a little added value for your money. If you are a local passholder, or even if you are planning to visit multiple times during this year’s festival, keep in mind you don’t have to collect all your stamps in one day unless you want to. You can take your time over the course of the festival. This year features cheese dishes to coincide with the Ratatouille ride opening in October. I have been fairly impressed with all the ones we have tried. The German option in particular was one of my favorites last year.
