That's joined by a higher resolution rear camera, going after the megapixels in this mid-range device. If you love the S10 range but you can't justify the price tag, the A71 is half the price with plenty to love.

Samsung Galaxy A51 5G

There's a few small differences between the Galaxy A51 and the Galaxy A71 models, but overall this is an update on the A50 model, with a larger display, increased resolution on the cameras and a larger battery capacity.

It's still a mid-range device, but it is available with 5G in some regions. The base level of storage is generous with microSD expansion and a there's a nice punch hole display too.

Samsung Galaxy A41

There's a step-down in the number of cameras from the A51, missing out on the macro camera, but otherwise the A41 offers a nice compact Samsung handset.

Samsung Galaxy A21s

There's a physical fingerprint sensor on the rear and microSD support for storage expansion too. The resolution isn't the highest, nor is the internal storage but for the price, the A21s could be a good option for those that want a Samsung with a big screen and big battery.

The Samsung Galaxy A21e doesn't have a punch hole camera like the A20s - instead opting for a waterdrop notch at the top - making it look a little more dated. There's a big enough display though, a dual rear camera and it still has a nice design for the price.

You get a little more with the A21s - especially in the case of the battery - but the A21e still has an ultra-wide angle camera on the rear to give you some interesting shots, as well as some software features for great selfies from the front.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G is also a foldable smartphone but it folds horizontally rather than vertically like the Fold, resulting in a very cool clamshell design. A little like an older Galaxy S model folded in half. There is a 4G model with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ and a 5G model running the Snapdragon 865+.

The Z Flip 5G allows you to have a larger display but without that length in your pocket and the hinge design offers various viewing angles. There are some compromises in terms of camera and battery but for those after retro cool, the Z Flip could definitely be the Galaxy for you.

Samsung makes too damn many phones

Samsung unveiled three flagships this week: the S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra. It also showed off a new foldable called the Z Flip, which honestly looks and feels far superior to the incredibly similar Motorola Razr. That's four entirely new handsets that the company just unleashed.

At the same time, Samsung broke tradition. Instead of phasing out last year's flagships, it's cutting the prices for the S10s, so they now start at $599 instead of $899.99. That means you can continue to buy the S10e, S10 and S10+, which are still great phones.

In fact, the company's Senior Manager of Smartphone Product Strategy, Caleb Slavin, told Engadget, "The S10 is going to be our new entry point into the flagship lineup." He added, "It's a great way for a consumer to get a premium device at an accessible price point."

Let's not forget though: Samsung also unveiled a pair of so-called Lite phones at CES. The S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite are high-powered smartphones at affordable prices, with small compromises on cameras and chipsets. They're not available in the US yet, but in the right regions, this means you have two more phones to choose from.

Then there's the Galaxy Fold, which may or may not be going away depending on what carriers decide to do. Not to mention the Note 10 and Note 10+.

So let's recap. Here are all the Galaxy phones you can buy from Samsung (*deep breath*). The S10e, S10, S10+, S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, Note 10, Note 10+, Galaxy Fold, Z Flip, Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite. But wait! There's also the A series, which is a midrange version of the S series and tends to get features from the flagship line about a year later. That's at least 13 phones in total. And we're not counting the S10 5G or limited editions like the Thom Browne Z Flip.

This is all part of Samsung's smartphone strategy. Slavin said, "We wanted to have an option in our portfolio for every consumer." That's nice, but what does the decision-making process look like if you're shopping for a Samsung phone? Let's work it out together.

Slavin said your first criteria is probably going to be price. Fair point. If your budget is below $1,000, you're definitely not going to get a foldable flagship or one of the S20s or Notes. In that case, your next factor is likely screen size. Here's where it all gets more confusing.

The S10 and S10+ have 6.1-inch and 6.4-inch panels, respectively, while the S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite both sport 6.7-inch panels. If you want a stylus in this price range, you'll likely pick the Note 10 Lite. Those who prefer a smaller phone will probably choose the S10. Between the S10+ and S10 Lite, it appears to boil down to price, camera setup and availability. If you're looking to save even more money, the A series will usually cost even less with an eligible trade-in or carrier subsidy -- you'll just have to live with less-powerful processors and cameras.

Things don't get easier if you have more money to spare either. Which high-end handset should you spring for if you're not in the market for a folding screen? Xiaomi has certainly opted not to be left behind, releasing multiple different devices sporting an inflated megapixel count. Of these, the Redmi Note 7, its budget champion, is the cheapest.

But more than a camera, it also comes with an array of numbers and acronyms picked to win any specification war at the price point. That is to say, it arrives with a 4,000mAh battery, an octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset, a glass rear, a bright 1080p screen with a stretched aspect ratio and a trendy teardrop notch.

For under £200 (roughly $260/AU$370), it certainly does seem to be a steal, but with a host of manufacturers competing in this hotly sought area, does the Redmi Note 7 do enough to cement its place at the top?

Global versions of the device are available from a number of different vendors as an import, often for a lot less, but carrying the obvious dangers of no warranty, and with the possibility that customs charges may be applied.

Hidden within its rear camera housing these sit, in theory gathering buckets of data. In the day to day, the camera does function a little differently - instead gathering information from four pixels at a time and combining them.

This means that despite the jaw-dropping megapixel count, image output is generally limited to 12MP, but benefits accordingly from improved dynamic range and low-light performance.

Powering all of this is the Snapdragon 660, the same octa-core chipset powering the likes of the Nokia 7 Plus.

Built on a 14nm fabrication process, this offers improved heat management, performance and power efficiency compared to older chips, and the likes of the Snapdragon 636 in the Redmi Note 6 Pro. The processor is backed up with either 3 or 4GB of RAM.

In addition a powerful chipset and camera, the Redmi Note 7 also benefits from an almost all glass build. Though it sports plastic sides, it has a toughened glass rear to add a premium feel to proceedings, though it isn’t quite as striking as the likes of the Honor 10.

However, there is no NFC, which will be a deal-breaker for those who like to make contactless payments with their phone.

From the front, the Redmi Note 7 is every inch a modern smartphone. Sporting an insignificant teardrop notch, the display covers almost everything, really giving that immersive experience. And at 6.3 inches, it is a large panel, though it doesn’t really feel it due to the slim body.

The sides of the device are made from a glossy plastic which isn’t quite as premium as the likes of the stainless steel rails on the iPhone XS, but still maintains a relatively durable feel. One small concern is the fact that the plastic is glossy, meaning it will pick up scratches as though they’re going out of style without the included TPU case.

Turning to the rear, the situation is once again a full sheet of glass. While it does feel nice in the hand, the same concerns around durability once again apply.

That's especially true as this is a device with a death wish. No matter the surface or the incline, the Redmi Note 7 will find a way to slide off and plummet towards the floor.

At 186g, it certainly isn’t an insubstantial device, however due to the light materials and the slim nature of the handset, it isn’t heavy in the hand and still delivers a nice heft that cheaper devices can sometimes lack.

In all, this is a well-built handset which follows current trends to a T, if not setting any new ones itself.

Screen 6.3-inch 1080 x 2340 screen Good but not great quality At 6.3 inches, there is little else to notice on the Redmi Note 7 at first glance other than its massive screen.

With only a small notch cutting in, this is a panel made for watching videos and consuming content. At 1080 x 2340, it is also sharp enough to please all but the most ardent of pixel peepers while also offering a resulting bump in battery life over QHD+ phones.

In general use, we found that while the screen has no major flaws, it also doesn't really stand out.

Although the brightness does go high enough for most situations, a direct hit from the summer sun will see legibility vanish. And while it is possible to tune colors mostly to your liking using the screen calibration tool, out of the box a strong blue cast is obvious in the whites.

Regardless, viewing angles are good - in all this is a screen which fits the price point exactly and is what one might expect. What that means to the average consumer will depend on their expectations, but for most it is likely to be more than enough.

India's largest e-commerce firm Flipkart is back with its 'Big Shopping Days' sale. The five-day mega-sale from 15 to 19 May has brought a number of offers and discounts from various brands on appliances, smartphones, television, laptops, speakers, headphones and other products.

The Walmart-owned online marketplace offered early access to Flipkart Plus members at 8 pm on Tuesday and for others, the sale went live at midnight.

Flipkart has mentioned several deals and offers with price cuts and buying benefits on its official website. The e-commerce firm has partnered with HDFC Bank to offer 10 per cent instant discount on using the bank's debit and credit card and EMI transactions. Under the 'Mobiles' category, Flipkart has top offers on various smartphones with attractive deals and mobile protection.

Samsung Galaxy J6 (4GB|64GB) has got a massive price cut and will be sold at Rs 9,490. Redmi Note 7 (4GB|64GB) at Rs 11,999 and Oppo K1 (in-display Fingerprint Sensor) at Rs 14,490. Among smartphones under the ‘best price ever’ category are Nokia 6.1 Plus (16MP Selfie) at Rs 12,999 and Infinix Note 5 at Rs 8,999.

The Realme C2 price has been set at Rs 5,999 for the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage variant, while its 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model is priced at Rs 7,999. Samsung’s most exciting smartphone of the year is almost here, but so it the Galaxy Note 20. And now we know almost everything about both Samsung’s best and worst smartphones of the year.

Thanks to a sensational leak by the always reliable WinFuture, we now have high resolution official images of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra as well as a detailed breakdown of its specifications. WinFuture has also attained images and specifications for the entry-level Galaxy Note 20 and it confirms what we already knew: this is a highly problematic phone.

07/25 Update: Remarkably, Samsung has now opened reservations for the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra on its website ahead of both phones being announced, with the promise of a $50 instant credit when you do so. While the company doesn’t explicitly reveal the two models, the accompanying preview video shows an S Pen in the new Mystic Bronze finish and the small print acknowledges that “Galaxy Note” is a trademark of Samsung Electronics. At this stage, Samsung is clearly aware the cat is out of the bag and that the leaked images and specifications (listed below) are correct. As such, the gap between the two models could hardly be greater. The Note 20 Ultra looks like one of the best Galaxy phones in years and the Note 20 appears to be one of the most underwhelming. If you can’t afford a Note 20 Ultra, the soon-to-be heavily discounted Galaxy Note 10 Plus would represent a better buy than the standard Note 20.

07/26 Update: users tempted to reserve a new Galaxy Note smartphone now have a good idea of what they will cost. SamMobile reports that Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra at similar price points in South Korea to the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus (which the Ultra replaces). This results in price points of 1.199 million won ($998) for the Note 20 and 1.452 million won ($1,209) for the Note 20 Ultra, which also aligns closely with US pricing from last year. That said, these prices are problematic because the Note 20 is far from being a $1,000 smartphone (especially with Galaxy S20 pricing plummeting) and the Note 20 Ultra, while cheaper than the S20 Ultra, will still cost more than Apple’s flagship iPhone 12 Pro Max, making it unlikely to convert iPhone owners. The Note 20 Ultra will be Samsung’s best phone of the year but that, in itself, may no longer be enough.

Looking at the Note 20 Ultra, however, Samsung has clearly created a smartphone which is a class above the Galaxy S20 range. The design is both an evolution of the Note 10 Plus and S20 Ultra. It refines the styling of the former with even smaller bezels and new S Pen with a remarkable 9ms of latency, while incorporating the power packed specifications of the S20 Ultra (details below) and improving on them with an industry-first LPTO display, improved chipset and essential camera changes.

By contrast, the Galaxy Note 20 looks more like a ‘Note 20 Lite’. Unlike every Galaxy S20 model, the Note 20 lacks a high refresh rate display while its design has taken a step backwards from the Note 10 with larger bezels and a surprisingly thick chin. Compared to the Note 20 Ultra, it also has less memory and storage, a lower resolution camera, lower latency S Pen and smaller battery.

My one concern for both models, however, is the Exynos 990 chipset which will ship to buyers outside the US. The 990 was already inferior to the Snapdragon 865 and a faster 865+ is coming to US buyers, which will only widen the gap further. Samsung’s in-house chip division is in trouble.

Despite this, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra looks a cut above every Samsung phone released this year, while its price looks set to significantly undercut the S20 Ultra. Potential buyers should also brace themselves: the release is less than two weeks away. Meanwhile, potential Galaxy Note 20 buyers should elsewhere or spend more to get the Ultra model.
