#Ready Made Family: Kyoraku Style AU

I've been reading through your various 'Ready Made Family' posts - very interesting premise! And given Isshin's lack of parenting skills, it doesn't take much suspension of belief to imagine. I digress - my fav is UraIchi, of course, but I had a thought about Kyoraku's verse. (Besides how amazing Unohana is as Ichigo's mentor, that is.) In all the other ready made family verses, Ichigo at one point returns Urahara or Aizen's affection, or at least does things that point to her moving in that direction, like letting Kisuke babysit the twins. With Kyoraku, I get the impression that she has no interest whatsoever, and wouldn't care if he dropped dead. Does Kyoraku ever do something that changes her opinion of him/proves he's worthy of consideration for a romantic relationship?
Kyoraku starts to change his image in Ichigo's eyes the moment he legitimately gets serious about something.
Cause see here's the thing, their first introduction? Kyoraku comes right out the gate not only with the heavy-handed flirting but his word choice was less than good.
"Oh,” a voice, warm and husky and filled with a lazy kind of cheer, calls out then, “who’s this little beauty, Ichinose? Don’t tell me you’re taking her back to the 11th. Haven’t seen Kenpachi in a while but she’d be wasted on him.”
There are a couple of ways a statement like that could be taken and after so long spent working her ass off to take care of the girls with no male "protector" around? Needless to say Ichigo has run into those kinds of assumptions more than once in the past and has had to shut them down just as quickly.
Plus his general laidback attitude? That flirty, work-avoiding personality he puts forward to most everyone else? It doesn't come across well to Ichigo in the beginning thanks to Isshin-related trauma.
But let Kyoraku get serious? Let him show Ichigo that there's more to him than sake drinking and flirting? And that's when she'll start looking at him a bit differently.

People of Rukongai: Soul Reapers aren't trust worthy.
Ichigo: *Steals the Eleventh Division.*
People of Rukongai: Only the Eleventh Division Soul Reapers are trust worthy.
Ichigo takes the 11th from being one of the most feared to the most beloved Divisions in the eyes of the common folk and everyone else is like ????HOW???
Meanwhile Ichigo's all "well, you know, the people might like you if you did something drastic like give them a reason to"

So I was reading through the rmf aus, and I ended up cackling because it's just
Every other rmf au: Suitor trying to convince Ichigo + twins to like them
And then you have
rmf kyoraku au: kyoraku trying to get Ichigo +twins... + yachiru + zaraki..... +plus Ichigo's several dozen other siblings (the 11th) to like him.. and failing (for now)
Also, I know that Unohana has been mentioned in rmf: kyoraku, but I can not for the life of me figure out how Yamamoto would react to everything. Is he amused? Ambivalent? Internally screaming in terror because "oh fuck now there are two Unohanas"? Cautious, but tentatively pleased that the 11th is somewhat contained?
Yeah Kyoraku ended up having one of the harder times of it all cause man is the deck stacked against him on multiple levels.
Yamamoto, being the war minded individual he is, is both pleased to have someone of Ichigo's strength attached to the 11th and cautious because where, exactly, did she come from??
But when it comes to the drama of Kyoraku attempting to court her? He's amused and pleased because not only is Kyoraku finally attempting to settle down but it's refreshing to watch all his laid back bullshit finally coming back to bite him in the ass

RMF Kyoraku style: I feel like her being pissed about it and half dragging half throwing them into change regardless of their own desires is just going to make them even more loyal and fanatical. Best Kenpachi or best Kenpachi guys huh? Huh?
Wonder if that means Zaraki will end up as her lieutenant.
Oh absolutely.
Ichigo becomes Kenpachi and as far as the rest of the 11th Division is concerned it's non-stop fun from that moment forward.
She makes them hunt her down? Division-wide game of hide-and-seek!
She kicks their asses when they find her. Their new Taicho is so strong!
And then she starts putting them to work in the Rukongai? Finally, something to actually do all day!
They're fighting gangs, killing Hollows, doing construction? They've never been more respected or accepted by the people. They're taking even more pride in their Division than ever before.
They even ended up with two adorable mascots in Yuzu-hime and Karin-hime and a Division-wide Enemy Number 1 in Isshin Shiba?
Perfect.
And ohhh Zaraki? Yeah he'll come up eventually.

These fuckers all got themselves a Big Sister and they literally asked for it. They better not complain when Ichigo starts big sister-ing them. Yuzu will be so disappointed if they do.
Oh they're bitching and complaining when she starts enforcing bath times (and eventually lets Yumichika and Ikkaku loose on anyone who doesn't comply) but they're less upset when she starts making sure the 11th's kitchens are pumping out rice balls and bento daily to make sure everyone has a lunch and/or snacks when they're out on patrol or doing stuff in Rukongai.
Just a bunch of the meanest, gruffest, battle-hungry shinigami to be found all pouting and bitching because "onee-sama said we have to wash behind both ears and I don't want to get caught skipping if she checks again" or being delighted because the kitchens made the good plum rice balls again for them.

Listen, listen,
Zaraki rocking up to Ichigo in his whole 2m tall street dog glory and calling her nee-chan. "Nee-chan, where should I put this?" "Nee-chan do you need help with the hollow extermination?" "Nee-chan some weirdo calling himself your future husband came. I kicked him out."
He might be doing it for shit and giggles, but the rest of squad 11 go monkey see monkey do and call her onee-sama.
Perfect.
This is now exactly how it's all gonna go.
And at first it exasperates Ichigo because Really? They're doing this now?
But the thing about being a literal Big Sister like Ichigo is to the twins means that you're conditioned to a certain degree to respond.
So whenever Zaraki pops up all "nee-chan" this and "nee-chan" that of course she responds. Same with the onee-samas.
And since she's constantly responding it's not a big leap to start really and truly living up to the title more than she already does.

RMF Kyoraku AU, Since Ichigo's the Onee-Sama of the 11th division. Does that mean the worst thing she can do to her squad ISN'T beating them to a pulp, but saying, "I'm disappointed in you." And have that be an instant KO for them?
Oh Ichigo's "I'm not mad, I'm disappointed" is the kiss of death for her new 11th Division idiots.
Because they're all fiery morons on some level so the flaring up, the arguing, the tussling, that's par for the course.
The disappointment? The "we did something so bad/stupid that she's not even yelling at us?" they'd rather face Ichigo in a full rage than have to face her like that.

no, no you don’t understand, zaraki would fucking love yuzu and karin. they’re ichigo’s sisters, so they’re already guaranteed to be a little bit feral, but yuzu is a special kind of “have tea with the devil while making him piss himself” feral, and karin will just haul off and punch you in the face if you piss her off. he’d adore them.
Exactly!
They're adorable and even if their spiritual energy isn't on the level of Ichigo's they're still very much Baby Feral and Zaraki is here for that, he finds it all delightful.

In the kenpachi ichigo au, does the number of recruits for the eleventh increase because she has no compunction recruiting from outside? I'd like to think that Ichigo taught anything she could about fighting to anyone who might've wanted to learn, since danger is everywhere and she's not omnipresent. Watch her bring the rukongai brats who show potential and want to give it a try for aprenticeships on her division. Or, why not, some of her new minions take on teaching with unexpected fervor after a pack of feral children attempted to kill them for bothering their dear protector
Ichigo's always had a soft spot for people in need and kids in particular so while Karin and Yuzu have always come first for her above any and everyone else she's always been open to helping others and occasionally helping them learn to help themselves.
So yeah she's taught more than one Rukongai scamp how to throw a punch or the value of running away, etc etc.
And when she becomes Kenpachi a lot of those kids still hang around and come running up to her when she's out doing rounds and working in the Districts.
And maybe she starts using some of the kids as runners for simple jobs as a way to have an excuse to pass out some food here and there to the ones she knows are hungry. Which, of course, means that her new minions start doing the same too.
There's going to be a clamor of new possible recruits in the next few years and 80% are going to come charging for the Academy with the 11th Division and Ichigo-taicho's name on their lips.

Kenpachi Ichigo: *beats Kyoraku to the ground*
Kyoraku immediately: Wow, I love the kind of woman that will actually just kill me
Ichigo: Keep pushing and we'll see about getting that fantasy fulfilled.

RMF: K
I /really/ want to see Ichigo hunting a hollow in the outer districts and running acrossed Zaraki and Yachiru.
The idiot challenges her, loses, and the girls cluster together, watching Zaraki repeatedly getting his ass handed to him.
Zaraki ends up following her back and Ichigo figures out that, once she hoses him off and lays down a few ground rules, he's actually a pretty good babysitter.
Kyoraku is gonna be in for even more of a time once he realizes that Ichigo's somehow acquired yet another even more feral guard dog.
Meanwhile, Zaraki is having the time of his life.

For rmf, ichigo becoming kenpachi. Didnt little baby renji start out in the 11th? Before he grew up to be byakuyas lieutenant?
Just tiny renji following ichigo around, all fighty and bitey
Renji actually started in the 5th Division under Aizen's bitch ass and then was moved to the 11th and then went to the 6th.
Either way we can still get Ichgio having to deal with a bitey Renji and Renji realizing he now has a Big Sister whether he wants one or not.

i did not know i needed kenpachi ichigo and kyoraku falling in love at first punch, but i love it so so so much. What are the reactions of the more traditional captains as well as the reactions from those who once lived in the slums? Do the traditionals try to force Ichigo to go to the academy? Does Kyoraku annoy his whole division with his pining after the beautiful lotus flower, she had perfect form when she punched me! it's very easy to see how he'd fall for her, i wonder how ichigo would
Oh, there's some pushback over Ichigo but considering she's the new Kenpachi not as much as there would have been if she'd attempted to take over another Division. And while there are some whispers about how shameful it is she didn't even attend the Academy no one outright tries to force her to go.
The rules of succession in the 11th stand independent and true after all.
Besides, the other Divisions and the more traditional captains and Clan members expect a certain level of savagery from the 11th anyways.
And oh Kyoraku does annoy his Division with his waxing poetic over Ichigo but they pretty quickly get used to it. His constantly getting shut down by Ichigo eventually becomes a source of entertainment and a bit of a running gag.
Also, they lowkey have a betting pool over what new and ridiculous flower-themed nickname he's going to give her each time they run into each other.

RMF Kyouraku AU
I am invested in this so much.
That said, how do you think he would get into Ichigo's good graces because he already fucked up once and she's not gonna make it easier for any of the Shinigami.
Though, it'd be funny if the only one she befriended -grudgingly so- was the one person everyone else was weary about - Urahara Kisuke, new to his Captaincy as well and also a previous Rukongai resident.
Something about Kyouraku going to Kisuke one day for advice on how to woo the 11th Captain and Kisuke just giving wrong answers on purpose or staying silent fills me with glee.
Oh man, Kyoraku would be so pissed if Ichigo not only gets close to Juushiro but Urahara too while he's still striking out.

Kyoraku signing himself up for three adorable little sister-in-laws that are far more scary than most anyone would ever suspect if crossed and a whole bunch of brother-in-laws (or what pronouns some may wish else to be referred!) ready to throw down at the slightest instance. Is he even aware just what he’s in for truly? :o
Kyoraku barely realizes what he's signed himself up for with Ichigo herself but man doesn't care.
2 little sisters? 3? Eventually Zaraki constantly looming behind Ichigo like a demented gargoyle? Doesn't matter to him.
