“So she just left, you know,“ Chuck said, words slurring a little, picking up the bottle to take one last sip only to find it empty. “I mean, she came and went for a long time before that, but then one day, my mom just walked out of my life. Twenty years and I thought she just... didn’t care. But she did, she did, she just couldn’t come back. All those years. I was so angry at her.“

Casey vs the Little Highness
@shesdaylight
Tumblr media
“Sorry, princess, can’t help ya,“ Casey said. It was bad enough she’d been brought into the fold regarding what really happened at the Buy More, but Casey felt not particular obligation to be her personal bodyguard (or concierge). Unless, of course, he was ordered to do so, but no such thing had come up top and he hardly expected them to - a piddly little place like Corona, it was hardly as though she offered a tactical advantage.

vs the Arresting Officer
@illfatedpartners (Amy)
Tumblr media
“Okay, I know how this must look!“ For once, Chuck really wished he’d stayed in the car. He put his hands up, eyes fixed on the weapon aimed at him, and took a step back from the body. There was only blood on his hands because he’d been trying to find Sarah and Casey and, instead, found this man on the floor. And, despite how much blood made him feel life he was going to be sick or faint or both, what could he do but help? Or try to. “And I know - I know you must hear this a lot, ma’am, but he was like this when I found him.“

vs the Princess
@spareisms
Tumblr media
“Sorry, I uh... Do you want me to bow? How does this work?“ When Casey had said, or more appropriately grunted, that they’d been asked to protect a princess, Chuck had assumed that she’d just gotten on his very short nerves already not that it was meant literally. “Sorry, I’ve just never met royalty before. Unless you count the kind that wander around Hollywood Blvd taking pictures with tourists.”

vs the Babysitter
@luxreprobi
Tumblr media
“So you - you run Lux, huh?” Chuck said, in way of conversation. Sarah, Casey, and Detective Decker were off running down their own lead, leaving Chuck with Lucifer (which had to be the most unfortunate name he’d ever heard). Chuck perched on the edge of Decker’s desk, idly picking at his hands. They were waiting on a test result from the cheery tech, then they’d probably have a lead of their own to run down, but for now he felt very much like one of them had been left to babysit. Honestly, he wasn’t sure which of them that was. “I’ve never been but I’ve heard great things. How - How did you go from that to, well, this? It doesn’t exactly seem like a fluid career move."

“Hey, um... do you want me to take a look at that? It seems like it’s giving you some trouble. And, um... I’m actually quite good at getting small electronic devices to behave - it’s one of my few talents.“

vs the Expensive Hobby
@scrunchie - Danny
Tumblr media
No comic book store was exactly alike. Some leaned heavily into gaming, and their comic selection was little more than a few sad boxes squished into the back - nothing wrong with that, but entirely false advertising. Others only had the most popular series, with a single shelf hiding any indie series and a nearly non-existent gaming section. This store? Chuck was in love. The perfect balance of comics and other artefacts of nerdery, of floppies and trades, of DC and Marvel and independent publishers.
“Hey,” Chuck said to the guy at the counter, with a smile, “um, you wouldn’t happen to have the new issue of Y in?“ His normal store had a little mishap with their computer and a soda - goodbye pull list. “And the new Justice League, if you’re not sold out yet?”

Stevie vs the Responsible Adult
@xgoldxnhour
Tumblr media
The courtyard hadn’t changed much. Chuck smiled softly, walking past old memories until he and Stevie came to his old friend’s door. “Thank you for this, Winnie,“ Chuck said, a hand on his daughter’s shoulder. She had her overnight bag in hand, swinging it back and forth. “We’ll drop by about 9 to come pick her up. And you,” Chuck leaned over to give Stevie a kiss on the top of her head, “are gonna go easy on Winnie, okay?“
“Well, I will now you said it,“ Stevie was with a grin. “Hi, Miss Winnie.“
