LEGACY GIRLS’ Jasmine to feature in veteran vocal group Sweet Sorrow's new single 'Small Room'
Sweet Sorrow and LEGACY GIRLS’ JASMINE have joined forces for a duet!
On February 28, the group’s latest music video was revealed for their upcoming single of ‘Small Room’, a song that is expected to bring a deep resonance that conveys comfort to many people who struggle with seasonal loneliness. With Sweet Sorrow, JASMINE’s unique voice boasts a sweet harmony for listeners.
Sweet Sorrow member KIM YOUNGWOO wrote and composed the song, and jazz musicians Song Youngju and Park Inyoung aided in strengthening the string arrangement to enhance the single’s completeness. KIM YOUNGWOO said of the lyrics, “[Through the writing process], I want to say appreciation to JASMINE for collaborating with my band and welcoming my suggestions, even with her busy schedule. Until the end of the production of this new album, JASMINE did her best for a great song.”
JASMINE is a member of LEGACY GIRLS, a rookie girl group that recently debuted in Japan on January 23 with the single ‘GIRLS GOTTA LIVE’. Despite her Japanese activities, it is said that JASMINE still made time to earnestly practice and record the collaboration with Sweet Sorrow.

December Wrap Up
Wow. It has been a whole twelve months since we have started this blog and now we are on the final, official post of the year! A mega-post compiling the top songs of the past year, as well as official departures and disbandments of groups from 2019, will be up on our main blog @kpopsunbae (make sure to go and follow us there for more content, although it will be quite a bit different than what we put on this blog).
As some of you may know, this blog (as well as the previous one, @kpopotd) are project blogs that end once the year is done. This means that while we will no longer post on this blog it will remain as an archive. We will however be back with a third blog in the future as a continuation of this blog (it will cover 2016 and onwards!). This does not mean that we will go completely off grid once 2019 is done though!
This coming year of 2020 has a lot in store for us, your K-Pop Sunbaes! We currently have a website to overhaul, an Instagram to properly launch, and of course we will continue releasing podcast episodes! Remember to follow us on Twitter too, our handle there is @kpopsunbaes (updates will be on there and you can interact with us too!).
On a final note, we are so appreciative for the love that you all have given this blog over the past year. It has been such a fun experience and the three of us have had a blast working together on the blog, having meetings, and eventually completing just under 900 posts. The show brought in over 5% viewership ratings and won two awards: the Best Couple Award for the main characters and an Excellence in Acting Award for YoonA.)
December 2013: You Who Came From the Stars/My Love from the Star (This hit romance/fantasy drama stars megastars Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun. The duo had previously acted together in the movie The Thieves. Dal Shabet’s Serri and Subin, former miss A member Suzy, and former 2NE1 member Dara make cameos throughout. Lyn, K. Will, Younha, Hyorin, Huh Gak, Sung Si Kyung, and Kim Soo Hyun all participated in the OSTs. The show did incredibly well and ended up selling out products that the characters wore, being the highest rated drama of it’s time (not only in South Korea but throughout Asia), and bringing in over 20% viewership ratings.)
December 2014: Healer (This action drama stars Ji Chang Wook and Park Min Young. The show averaged around 7% viewership ratings, but while it only did moderately well in South Korea it boosted Ji’s international fandom immensely.)
December 2015: Remember- War of the Son (This thriller stars Yoo Seung Ho, Park Woo Sung, Park Min Young, Min Namkoong, and Jung Hye Sung. K. Will, Jooyoung, Jang Jane, Jang Han Byul, and Bobby Kim participated in the OSTs. It averaged around 15% viewership ratings, and won a few awards at multiple award shows.

December 23, 2009: Jeon Woo Chi: The Taoist Wizard (This fantasy/action film stars Gang Dong Won, Im Soo Jung, and Kim Yoo Seok. A 2012 K-drama spin-off was made with the same main character played by Cha Tae Hyun, although the rest of the show’s plot was different. It was the third best selling movie of the year.)
December 9, 2010: Finding Mr. Destiny (This movie adaption of the musical of the same name, stars Gong Yoo and Im Soo Jung. It did well at the box office, bringing over a million admissions.)
December 1, 2011: Spellbound/Chilling Romance/My Girlfriend Can See Ghosts (This rom-com stars Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ki. It was the 7th biggest movie of the year.)
December 25, 2012: The Tower (This disaster movie stars Sol Kyung-gu, Ki Sang-gyung, and Son Ye-jin. The movie did very well at the box office and become the first movie of 2013 to hit five million theater admissions. It was sold to multiple countries and eventually got an English dub with voice actors such as Buba Kachow, Erin Fitzgerald, and Todd Haberkorn.)
December 11, 2013: Way Back Home (This movie, which is based on the true story of Jang Mi Jeong, stars Jeon Do Yeon and Go Soo. It follows the story of a woman who unknowingly attempted to smuggle drugs out of Paris and is caught, and how she eventually got back to Korea. It did fairly well, bringing in just under two million theater admissions.)
December 18, 2013: The Attorney (This law drama, which was inspired by a true story, stars Song Kang Ho, Kim Young Ae, Oh Dal Soo, ZE:A’s Im Si Wan, and Kwak Do Won. It became the 8th best-selling movie in Korea of all time with over 11 million admissions. It won many awards at various award shows.)
December 24, 2013: The Suspect (This action/thriller starring Gong Yoo was a box office hit, bringing in over 4 million admissions. It received praise from various western newspapers and reviewers.)
December 31, 2014: The Tenor - Lirico Sprinto (This movie, which is based on the true story of Bae Jae Chul, stars Yoo Ji Tae, Yusuke Iseya, and Cha Ye Ryun. The movie took eighteen months to film and six years to fully complete.)

// ( ♔ ) K.ARMA FEBRUARY DEVELOPMENT
Early in the morning, the seven girls of K.ARMA are approached by someone, although this time it isn’t the usual face of Yumi. One of the gym instructors tells them to head over to a particular room where they’ll meet Park Inyoung, one of the superior vocal instructors from TRC who was also part of the TRC/G Project council. The members are excused from training and head over to one of the singing studios in the building.
She greets them with a serious expression. Her face is fair and pretty, but her sharp eyes give her a bit of an intimidating aura. “Good morning. This is the first time we’ve officially met, but I’m certain you all know who I am, and you all know that I know who you are.” The woman has a stack of paper on top of her lap which she hands to the leader, Siyeon, without much of a scene. Her expressions do most of the explaining as she points at the other members with her chin, telling Siyeon to pass the sheets around. “I’ve received your debut song some time ago and, as I followed your progress with the Project, I tried making the most appropriate preparations to make this the best debut of the new era.”
The sheets of paper contain the title of the chosen song on the top along with which K.ARMA member it is supposed to go to, and then the lyrics written below it. Along with this, a lot of different annotations and color-coding can be seen for each different member. “I am only half of the work, however. I’d like to hear you all attempting different parts of the song so we can end up with the best final project.”
This month, K.ARMA members will be focused on practicing for their debut song, “News.” Members were given different parts of the song to learn and perfect, but it does not mean they’ll get to sing it on the final product. On February 27th, two weeks from the date of their assignment, the members will meet again with Park Inyoung to sing all of their parts live. The members will go one at a time, but they’ll all be in the same room. Inyoung has the right to tell the girls to repeat their attempts if she feels like she needs a second listen, and will then write down her thoughts onto her journal. Once every member went through their lines, she’ll give out her final thoughts. “Make sure you’ll be at your best when we meet again because this will very well dictate your entire future.”

“Rampant” est un film d’action historique et d’horreur sud-coréen, datant de 2018, réalisé par Kim Sung-hoon, à qui l’on doit également “Confidential Assignment” (2017). Les acteurs principaux sont Hyun Bin, qu’on a pu voir dans “The Negotiation” (2017), Jang Dong-gun, qu’on a pu voir dans “No Tears for the Dead” (2017), Kim Eui-sung, qu’on a pu voir dans “Steel Rain” (2017), Jung Man-sik, qu’on a pu voir dans “The Battleship Island” (2017), Jo Woo-jin, qu’on a pu voir dans “The Fortress” (2017), Lee Sun-bin, qu’on a pu voir dans “The Princess and the Matchmaker” (2018), et Seo Ji-hye, qu’on a pu voir dans “The Suicide Forecast” (2011). L’histoire proposée par “Rampant” nous invite à suivre Lee Chung (Hyun Bin) qui doit se battre contre des “démons de la nuit” afin de sauver l’empire de Joseon. Lee Chug est l’un des fils du roi et l’un des plus grands artistes martials du pays. Bien qu’il soit pris par des obligations imposées par l’empire Qing, il rentre auprès des siens après avoir appris que son frère, le prince héritier Lee Young (Kim Tae-woo), s’est suicidé. Avec des zombies qui sévissent dans le pays dès la nuit tombée et le ministre de la Guerre, Kim Ja-joon (Jang Dong-gun) qui complote pour renverser la dynastie, le prince Lee Chung doit s’engager dans des combats aux côtés de la belle Seok-hee (Lee Sun-bin) et d’autres partisans.
“Rampant” est particulièrement divertissant, car il associe deux genres singuliers que j’affectionne particulièrement, le film historique et le film d’horreur de zombies. En anglais, on utilise souvent le terme period drama, parfois historical drama. C’est un terme un peu fourre-tout qui peut s’appliquer à plusieurs genres dans le cinéma. Pour le cinéma coréen, on utilise souvent ce terme pour désigner les films mettant en scène la période Joseon, soit le Moyen Âge pour faire simple. “Rampant” entre donc dans cette catégorie. Catégorie que j’apprécie donc particulièrement, comme je le soulignais en introduction. Kim Sung-hoon, le réalisateur, dont nous avions déjà savouré son précédent métrage, “Confidential Assignment” (2017), est proche de la perfection avec cette nouvelle et récente monture. En effet, ce film est sorti le 25 octobre dernier sur les écrans coréens.
L’aspect historique repose donc sur des éléments de production très soignés. Les costumes et les décors sont absolument sublimes et la photographie proposée par Sung-Jae Lee met tout ceci en valeur, en jouant avec les éclairages, l’ombre et la lumière naturelle, tant en intérieur qu’en extérieur. Hwang Jo-yoon, le scénariste, installe donc son récit durant la période où la dynastie Joseon fut sous l’autorité de la dynastie Qing. La toile de fond est un complot orchestré par le Ministre de la Guerre afin de destituer le roi et de monter sur le trône. Le prince héritier s’étant suicidé, c’est au cadet que revient la charge de contrer le ministre rebelle.
Mais Les choses se compliquent car des zombies vont venir semer le chaos partout autour de la ville. Dans ces négociations avec les Hollandais afin d’acheter des mousquets, des balles et de la poudre noir, le Ministre de la Guerre va découvrir un homme malade sur le bateau de ses alliés de circonstances, et y voir un moyen de régler certains de ses problèmes en laissant œuvrer des “démons de la nuit”. Cependant, les choses échappent à tout contrôle et les montres cauchemardesques se multiplient à vitesse grand V. Les effets spéciaux et autres maquillages sont très bien faits, avec un soin tout particulier apporté à l’hémoglobine. Comme souvent les figurants s’en donnent à cœur joie en jouant les morts-vivants.
Le récit est fluide et la narration est linéaire, les faits se déroulant sur plusieurs journées. “Rampant” propose une bonne dose de scènes d’action, avec une double orientation, se débarrasser des zombies et empêcher le Ministre félon et ses hommes d’arriver à leur fin et de prendre le pouvoir. Les scènes de combat sont superbement orchestrées avec des angles de prise de vue intéressante et des ralentis d’une superbe qualité. La bande originale présentée par Inyoung Park est très agréable avec une association de musique classique et de mélodie moderne et rythmée, venant harmonieusement coller aux images.
L’ensemble de la distribution offre de très bonnes prestations. On retiendra cependant la performance de Hyun Bin. L’acteur propose un personnage détaché de ses tâches princières, n’ayant d’intérêt que pour les femmes et la vie facile. Progressivement, il va prendre conscience de son rôle et la charge qui est la sienne et s’impliquer directement dans le devenir de sa nation. En outre, l’acteur montre sa dextérité pour les arts martiaux en s’avérant pleinement à l’aise dans ce registre. J’ai également apprécié la prestation de Jeong Man-sik dans un rôle de soutien, sorte de valet au prince, qui n’hésite pas à lui prodiguer des conseils sans que ce dernier ne l’ait sollicité. Le personnage amène une petite dose d’humour sans basculer dans le burlesque. Certains personnages sont en revanche sous-exploités, comme par exemple, celui incarné par la ravissante Lee Sun-bin.
En conclusion, “Rampant” est un très bon film mêlant astucieusement l’historique et les zombies. L’intrigue est accrocheuse et le développement est sémillant. Le rythme est bien équilibré, le récit est fluide et les scènes d’action sont très bien orchestrées. La photographie est excellente, les effets spéciaux et autres maquillages sont très bons. La bande originale est plaisante et la distribution offre de superbes prestations. Un métrage qui offre une belle harmonie entre différents genres qu’il fallait oser associer. À voir sans hésiter !
