May 8, 2019 - Brown-winged Kingfisher (Pelargopsis amauroptera)
These kingfishers are found along the coasts of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from Southeast India to Peninsular Malaysia. Living in coastal mangrove and tidal forests, mudflats, and estuaries, they feed on crabs and fish, hunting from perches and flying down to capture prey. They nest in burrows dug into riverbanks, termite mounds, or rotten trees.
