Today is release day for the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection!
WE MADE IT, FOLKS!!
Yes, I know we're celebrating the game's re-release, but I took a character from the anime for this event -- specifically, Oozono Yuriko, shown here in Cross Fusion. This piece is based on the final fight in episode 19 in Stream, taking place on the hospital roof. I... didn't know whether I could show other characters in the shot, so it's probably not as apparent, but for context, her opponent here not pictured was Bombman. Honestly, the whole scene is a lot shorter and less relevant than I thought (there's another unrelated fight in the same episode that kinda overshadows this one,) but it stuck in my memory regardless. [Insert a joke about my regular medical field-related rambles here.]
Yuriko isn't my favorite character, but she is still one I'm fond of, and one I feel gets picked on a little too much sometimes. Like a number of the anime cast, she kinda got the short end of the stick in terms of... everything, so I guess I'm doing my part to try to make up for that. Somehow.
This piece is super late, due to a number of issues; most notably, this month I've had problems both with chronic pain and mental health, and it's kinda hard to draw when you feel like you've been hit by a bus. The other issue was the good five or so drafts I had before landing on this particular composition, and the sheer amount of digital art and editing skills I had to learn very quickly. The sketch was drawn digitally here, but everything from the refined underdrawing to the coloring were done traditionally, with multiliners and alcohol markers. It's by far my largest piece in a couple years at least, possibly overall. (Yeah, I know it looks kinda simple, but inking buildings and other structures with a normal ruler is harder than it looks, I've learned.) There's a few errors here and there due to both exhaustion and expedience, but I think it's acceptable enough.
Here's to a new breath for the series, and here's to all the folks who've worked so hard on this collaboration!
Plug in, transmission!

Megaman Production Art Scan of the Day #617:
Ms. Yuri in Ms. Mari Disguise Head Shot + Full Body Character Design Sheet [#10 Yuriko Oozono ①]
Notations include:
- Clothing is exactly the same
- Color Trace Paint for the highlights on her hair
- Color Trace Paint for her cuticle (?)
I don’t know if that last part is translating right, or if it really means more for the white of her eyes, and that’s why the top 2 images have the dot outline to illustrate? But Translate only gives me cuticle, and those aren’t her fingers.

Yuriko Oozono, Tomb Raider.
Today’s set of the eternally-continuing Axess 44 posts basically just focuses on the rare time Yuriko isn’t in her trademark black and purple hooded coat. Instead, trading it in for some adventurer duds as she combs the ruins of Mistman’s desert tower.
Tumblr media
Lookin’ at her PET:

Finding some precious lumps of coal that would help make dark chips somehow:
Tumblr media
Booking it as fast as she can from a giant bejeweled camel statue, which also came in smaller, non-animated treasure size on a pedestal, later in the episode:
Tumblr media
And proudly grabbing Mistman’s lamp...before the floor beneath her gave way to an almost bottomless pit, back to the entrance of the tower.
Tumblr media
Oh, yeah, and remember last week when I couldn’t pinpoint that small set of Cross Fusion Rockman screaming in agony? Of course it came from Axess 44. *facepalm* Now that I’ve recapped screenshots, I found it quite easily. ^^; Should have held off on adding it to that post.
So, just because I want to keep all of Axess 44 together, I’m re-adding those genga to this post. And I’d rather do that, than edit or delete them from the previous post. Yes, you just saw them, but now they are properly referenced in the episode with caps:

If you’re a fan of Netto or Meiru, then you’re gonna like my posts over the next few weeks. If you are a fan of some of the best-looking animation from the EXE series, then you’re gonna like my posts over the next few weeks. If you said “I’m not” to either of the preceding statements, then you’re gonna be sick of my posts over the next few weeks.
Nabbed off of Rinkya earlier this month, I was able to win 2 sets of key animation images - technically genga drafts - from Axess Ep. 44. However, they are just copies like other settei batches I own, not the actual pencil drawings. I was holding out hope they were the legit originals when I bid, but I was pretty sure they weren’t. That instinct was correct. Still, I’ve hardly come across many of these in-show drafts in settei auctions, let alone a whole episode’s worth. So, while there’s not a lot of character variety - not nearly as much Yuriko as I was hoping - this batch of around 100 genga have a ton of nice Netto and Meiru sketches.
The little boxes of text on each one is just the character’s name, if you were curious. Although, thanks to the laughable Google Translate glitch that “translates” eyes for some reason, as you can see below, Meiru is clearly also known as “the surface corporate.”
Tumblr media
More to come over the next few weeks, along with a separate batch that had a few more standard settei character sheets from the first season of EXE that are new to me (or better quality from years ago), and some N1 Grand Prix scenery.

Axess Ep. 44 Genga: Part 8 of…A Lot.
Sorry this got delayed a bit, due to the holiday rush, as well as due to cold and flu season rearing it’s ugly head, leaving me feeling too much like garbage to even do something like scanning.
This batch has, as usual, more Netto and Meiru, but also the last little bit of Yuriko pieces hiding in this huge collection. A little keepaway with Mistman’s lamp between her and Meiru. But unfortunately the final scan, with them playing tug-of-war with it, was photocopied pretty badly, so it’s not the greatest quality to look at. You just get a clear view at Yuriko’s somewhat odd-looking, gangly legs in that stance. Those desert adventurer pants just aren’t as flattering from that angle. XD

Going back to another background batch of settei from the huge set I got a few weeks ago. Like last time, I think I’ll mix some screencaps from the actual episode they are from in, because it’s kinda neat to compare the production art to the actual show. And since I have the DVDs, without timestamps or fansub text cluttering the image up, I might as well!
Today focuses all on settings from Episode 17 of Axess - The Assaulting Beastman! - where Yuriko dressed up as Fake Mariko to take Netto and Meiru to the fancy Sea Tower where she tried to totally murder them. At the Sea Tower, there was a World Exhibition Market, which is where Netto encountered Tamako peddling goods, while the real Mariko was visiting the Hot Springs of the World Exhibit with Tohru, Chisao and Rush in the same building.
Tumblr media
The first pic is a hallway area, which again got a little watercolor treatment - something pretty rare in any of the settei I have owned. The second pic shows the distance the tower sits in the sea from the mainland, connected by bridges from the mainland on both sides.
Then there are concepts of the roads leading into the underwater tunnel, which they drove to get to the building. Pretty neat architectural design, in all honesty. A large tower sits above the tunnel entrance at each end, and that is seen in the next scan.
Tumblr media
Then there is a pic of the legs of the tower, which Needleman destroys one of later in the show, causing the tower to tip as dark chip-drugged up-Beastman rampages inside. That is followed by an aerial view of the top of the tower, which could rise and lower itself into the sea. Obviously in this view, it’s mostly lowered into the water.
Following that, another set of interiors, including the main exhibit floor.
Tumblr media
Also, a dining area near a rounded part of the tower, the hot spring lobby entrance, and finally the hot spring area itself.
Tumblr media
Mariko-sensei approves!

When someone enters the room and you quickly hide the layer of sexy art you don’t want anyone to know you’re working on.
‘Oh, nice background!’
“Yes, I enjoy drawing scenery. It has a very soothing and calming effect on me.”
...I totally forgot Beast+ gave us these crucial plot development scenes...

Now that the holidays have officially passed, it’s time I crank Valentine’s Day Contest promotion into high gear! Get ready for 30+ days of me posting nothing but old contest entries, as I reminisce over 10 years of me holding giveaways in exchange for you drawing lovey-dovey Megaman art! (It’ll be about 3 pics per post in order to showcase all 100+ of them)
And yes, no matter the skill level, I truly do appreciate every pic that has ever been submitted. It’s no contest without people trying their best, and the point of these posts are more about appreciating people’s art, than it is shameless plugging.
Tumblr media
As always, remember you can easily go back to this year’s rules post with my handy ‘V-Day Contest Info’ link at the top of my blog, where anything I have tagged concerning this year’s contest is in one easy place. The deadline is still a little over a month away, on Feb. 12th, so get a-workin’! And any reblogging and help spreading the word is always welcome.
(P.S. - Did it annoy you that for a 10th anniversary, I only have 9 participation prizes? Did you feel I needed to add a 10th to even it out? Well, I might have... To be announced when it is in my hands.)
Pretty much going to go in chronological order, starting with the very first contest back in 2007.
Tumblr media
The preceding entries came from the romance category, which this particular year focused on mismatched non-canon pairings brought about from Roll playing Cupid and misfiring her Roll Arrows. Being that this initial year was held at Rockman.EXE Online, the entries were all EXE-related.
As time has passed, usernames have changed and people have lost all traces of their old online selves off the web. But I will still try to credit and link to the original artist as much as I possibly can.
Artist Credits:
1.) Powerman.EXE - Medi.EXE x Searchman.EXE
2.) Roll Soul - Quickman.EXE x Cutman.EXE
3.) Raia - Hinoken x Yuriko
