That occasional urge to just quit your job, abandon your entire life for six months, and follow a literary character or historical figure’s journey across the country by the original roads they might have taken
#I have so many especially for the eighteenth century
#In terms of literary figures Scott's Edward Waverley and Stevenson's David Balfour in Kidnapped spring to mind
#Violet Jacob's Flemington too actually since she knew Angus so well
#In terms of historical ones obviously recreating Boswell and Johnson's tour would be fun
#This brought to you by the sudden realisation that the main road to Perth in the 1740s DID go along the street my dad lives on
#But afterr that it didn't go through a lot of the other main villages and somehow goes over the Braes and into Perth by the north
#Unlike either the 19th century or modern road
#OH speaking of the nineteenth century it woul dbe really cool to follow Jules Verne's narrator from his story about the Underground City
#But there are no real ferries on that stretch of the River Forth any more
#None of these are favourite literary or historical figures by the way I just think the roads/infrastructure was interesting in their day
