some of my non-pc dwarf chars i hope to commit to writing eventually:

Torstan, one of the only male chars I’ve had any inspo for in the last....3 years oops. city boy, loves the ocean, carpenter and shipwright and occasional merchant (stand-in. v good at making friends, v bad at making profitable deals). lost the lower part of his left leg during an incident at the docks. YES his fc is luke arnold in his role as john silver. YES his surname is flintheart, and YES he carries a lil purse of silver pieces to like. buy food for kids or beggars or to get a starving thief out of immediate trouble w/ the law. i dont care. also i think he’s gay idk he leans that way but i’ve never had a crystal clear read on it, many of my chars are annoying this way

Tig, formerly topaz, street-raised chaotic lesbian, cannot read or write but is fluent in a form of sign language that’s like. a messy blend of the ferelden standard sign, whatever the ferelden/thedas eq. of thieves cant is, and also just shit they Made Up in their lil street family while trying to survive n thrive. Soraya wasn’t actually made for a DA verse but i love her so i’ll probs adapt her for this blog but she’s likeeeeee got Dagna’s energy but Maryden’s occupation ig would be a blend of canons to narrow in on her vibe. she’s one of my v few Lawful Goods which is :/ but she likes bright, jewel tones and music and laughter and is tiny and Good and i adore her, my own oc, shut up abt it

Vastra would be cool but like she’s meant to have some degree of magical ability and that doesn’t rly. Fit into DA lore so. (like are we SURE a dwarf cannot be possessed or fade-touched or whatever under any circumstances? really? 100%??) idk maybe i will just make her a v small human or idk a half-dwarf whose non-dwarf parent had rly potent magical abilities so she inherited a watered-down version of that where she cant actually perform magic but she CAN tap into the fade and spirits n stuff can mb sense it on her. she likes Quiet and Nature and hearty foods and solitude and animals

Nyx !!!!!!!!!!! why are several of my dwarves missing parts of their lower limbs um. Victoria Modesta fc tho so like. she rly DOES wear those artsy prosthetics for photoshoots n stuff and that’s part of where her inspo came from. daughter of merchants and/or talented smiths and she has some minor abilities of her own there (mostly so she can touch up her prosthetics or if rly pushed could scramble together a rough new one i suppose) but she like. Models the craftsmanship in the denerim market or wherever, and has picked up quite the taste for fashion n accessories. but ya she’s like the sales rep n is v good at it but also a lil bored of it

Bryn maybe but i honestly dont know if i want her to be a dwarf or a human or an elf or like half-something idk !!!!!!!!!!!!! she’s an avvar warrior regardless but they’re culturally and historically v accepting of different races in their holds so im still ??? abt it. and dont have a whole lot more to work with there yet either oop

it doesn’t go great initially :’D Bryn is skeptical of the claim at first, and honestly, I cannot blame her because I’d also be skeptical of some strange guy claiming to be my biological father. but she comes to believe it when he’s able to accurately describe Kalah, and then she’s angry at him. as far as she’s known all her life, her father walked out on her and the family when she was young - her mother never really talks about him, except to say that “he left us for the surface,” and Rica was too young to remember him.

Riaso, on his end... yeah I have no idea how I’d react to finding out I had a kid I never knew about through an ex from over twenty years ago. he doesn’t bring it up until he’s reasonably sure that the Hero of Ferelden is related to the Kalah he knew, and kind of notes with dread that she does look like him. awkwardness for Riaso, skepticism and anger for Bryn. 

there’s still this crisis going on with the Mother, so they’re able to put a pin in it to deal with that when the arling isn’t in immediate danger. Bryn cools down during the time working with him and apologizes for being so cold. their relationship is still kind of spotty and distant in my head, but they are both making a solid effort to get to know each other, and they have a decent bond by the time Inquisition rolls around! TL;DR: family relationships sure are complicated

suddenly thinking about my Wardens so have some children and their hobbies:

Vanyla - Thedosian brain teasers and jigsaw puzzles if they’re a thing in the setting. anything that makes her think. romance and fantasy novels. shopping.

Sidane - also likes shopping, also likes reading (but they’re interested in virtually any subject, not just fiction). gossiping with their sister. astronomy. cooking.

Perry - architecture. also big on reading, goes with being a mage bc they’re all nerds. gossiping with her sibling. working out.

Ramori - playing with any animals that wandered into the tower, especially fond of cats. sewing. collecting dolls. reading again bc yeah. card games.

Leeva - singing and playing flute, but very shy about doing that in front of others and has to be talked into it. whittling and woodcarving. 

Nadine - cooking and baking. sewing. telling tall tales to Alienage kids. playing with makeup. 

Bryn - making jewelry (more DIY arts and crafts stuff as opposed to metalwork, but it’s still pretty and cute). gardening. reading poetry.

Farira - partying at taverns (before and after becoming a Grey Warden). painting. chemistry.

Pros:

She has two axes and she’s not afraid to use them if anybody’s threatening her girl.

She’s a decent hand at crafting jewelry! Nothing especially fancy, but she can and will make homemade gifts for you.

Has a surprisingly good sense of humor, once she lets her walls down enough to joke around. Very dry and deadpan wit.

She’s a good listener, and happy to braid your hair while you’re venting/ranting about whatever’s on your mind.

One of the best people to have around during a panic attack. She’s incredibly gentle and soft, and she’ll do what she can to ease the pain without crossing any lines.

Up for almost anything as far as having a good time goes, which might be surprising considering how stoic she is.

You’re probably going to be well loved by Rica - she’s happy that you make her sister happy.

Cons:

A hoarder. Even if it doesn’t work anymore, or it’s useless in every way, she’s still keeping it. No, you can’t talk her out of it. She’s keeping it.

She can be downright cold on the job, and it can be pretty unsettling to see from her. She doesn’t like it, and she does try to be a better person now that she’s free from the carta, but her ruthlessness isn’t something that goes away overnight.

Saying it’s hard to earn her trust is a bit of an understatement. It takes a lot of time to earn it, and even longer to get it back if you lose it.

She doesn’t respect the law or authority in even the slightest. Not necessarily a con for some people, but for others… yeah.

She doesn’t drink often, but when she does, it’s pretty heavily and to the point of passing out. (Pros: she gets a lot goofier and smiles more when she’s drunk.)

She’s incredibly stoic and prone to repressing her emotions, courtesy of years of carrying out Beraht’s will in Dust Town. It can be hard to know how she feels at times

She’ll do almost anything to protect the ones she loves, even if it’s on the immoral side. Depending on your own morality, that’s… yeah.

1) Something this character is truly proud of.

I… am struggling with this one, Ben’s not super proud of a lot with herself. :/ I think it would be in surviving as long as she did, and providing food for her family since she was little. Which is a very sad thing to be proud of, imo.

5) A cherished personal belonging.

A bracelet from her childhood - Benyssa made two of them out of thread and pretty rocks she collected, one for herself and one for Rica. A memory of times that weren’t necessarily happy, but still felt innocent in comparison to how cold and willing to hurt people she became when she worked in the carta.

17) What they’d sing at karaoke

Benyssa: “No.”

I can only imagine her being willing to sing karaoke if Leliana asked her to do a duet lol, in which case, it’s whatever smooshy love song Leliana picked out. I’m gonna say “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge.

18) Special talents they have

Aside from her skills in dual-wielding and having unshakable nerves after years as a carta thug, she’s got some talent in making jewelry. Obviously, nothing like what an official goldsmith could make - but give her some DIY arts and crafts materials, and she’s pretty good.

💰 If your OC had all the money they could ask for what would they do with it? Where would they go and what would they buy? Are they the only one who benefits from this wealth?

Nadine: Her family gets out of the Alienage, for starters. Or at least they get a better home, and they’re able to buy protection from the shems that would accost them in their daily life. Her family would share the wealth, naturally, and probably the whole of the Alienage. Actually, life in the Alienage would improve in general, and any shemlen who hurt her people would actually have to pay for it.Also, cookbooks and spices from countries all over Thedas.

Benyssa: Her family gets out of Orzammar and has something better on the surface. I figure pre-Blight Ben wouldn’t care to share that wealth with anybody but Rica and Leske, tbh, but post-Blight, Leliana too. She’d use the money to travel as far as she wants to once Rica (and her mother, and Endrin Jr.) are provided for.

☄️ Does your OC believe in fate and destiny or do they think it’s a load of garbage? Would they ever get this fortune told? What would a fortune-teller tell them about their future?

Sidane: They do, but only because there’s figures in history that were said to be able to see the future. They don’t think about it much in their day-to-day life… though they did have lament the hand fate dealt them after the final battle, when Morrigan left with their unborn child and they discovered their sight would never recover.I’m not sure what a fortune teller would tell them, tbh? Maybe something cryptic about how they “leave a trail of hearts behind them, but love would find them and leave them in the dust.” :P They’d absolutely go see one! For fun, if nothing else.

Perry: Definitely not. Unlike her sibling, she doesn’t buy that those historical figures actually had prophetic gifts, and she thinks there’s just not a lot of proof to actually validate that being a proper form of magic. She’d only be willing to go visit a fortune teller if Sidane or Zevran talked her into it; I figure her fortune teller would probably give her the unheeded advice to slow down for five minutes, and that “you will find success, but not the type you’re imagining.”

⚖️ What is the biggest crime your OC has committed? Are they a theif, a cheat, a liar? What is the smallest, most petty crime they’ve committed? Or do they not do crime at all?

Vanyla: In a universe where she isn’t the Warden, she gets a reputation as something of a scoundrel for various crimes in smaller towns in Ferelden. They basically amount to theft and assault, and her intent behind them generally amounted to Robin Hood reasons. Steal from the rich, give to the poor, protect the innocent - she grows up and becomes a lot more empathetic in either universe, I like to imagine.Warden!Vanyla’s only got the major crime of being accused of killing Cailan, but… well, she did do the crime spree quests in Denerim. :^D

Atreyan: His answer is going to be boring - a Trey of either stripe would probably have assault on his record, and like his twin, in defense of somebody else. Warden!Trey also has to deal with Loghain framing him for the death of Cailan, but aside from those two, that’s about it.

🎁 What would be the perfect gift to buy your OC? What would be the worst gift? Are they themselves any good at gifting things or are they really indescisive? How do they wrap their presents?

Ramori: She really likes pretty gothic clothing, but especially stockings. I figure that one of her big companion gifts would be a set of stockings with intricate stitching and skeletal designs; a major approval loss would be anything to do with fire or spiders. Ram’s incredibly perceptive and remembers small details about her loved ones, and she makes for an excellent gift giver, but she’ll never bother to wrap those presents.

Leeva: Chocolate would be a perfect gift! She tries it for the first time during the Blight and falls in love with it, and has a small, personal goal of tasting chocolate from all over Thedas. An amazing way to lose approval would be anything Andrastian that would try to convert her to the Maker, she’d find it a major offense and disrespect to her and her people. Like Ramori, she’s not going to bother wrapping the presents; unlike Ramori, she’s terrible with giving gifts and only gets lucky in terms of remembering the really big stuff her friends mention.

Benyssa + politics and politicians.

thank you! I haven’t thought about Ben in a while :’)

1. She’s disgusted by most politicians, and hates Eamon virtually the moment she lays eyes on him. Her experience as a casteless has taught her that for all their talk of nobility and honor, very rarely do they actually adhere to those ideals. That said, though, she has a certain respect for cunning and being smart enough to get ahead, and it’s what makes her like Anora enough to throw in with her.

2. Claims to not care about politics, but she does. Benyssa has a vested interest in whomever will make the best choice for the people at the bottom of the barrel. Alongside the afore-mentioned cunning and his being with Rica, it’s why she supports Bhelen - Harrowmont, to her, is just another narrow-minded old duster too focused on gold and “honor” to think about what Orzammar’s people need.

3. As the sister of Orzammar’s queen, she finds herself making a lot more appearances at court than she ever expected to. She does her best to make herself look respectable, as she knows what she represents to the casteless, and because she doesn’t want to reflect poorly on Rica or her nephew Endrin.

👽 Describe your OC as if they were an urban legend or myth!

Vanyla:

A pretty-faced scoundrel with a blonde braid and an ornate bow. She’s scowling, but there’s a definite softness to her eyes when she sees someone in need. A high-pitched, unmistakable voice as she addresses a person with ill intentions - her hands are smooth, not resembling somebody who’s experienced with it, but it’d be a mistake to underestimate her.

Nadine:

A lovely smile and warm brown eyes attached to somebody who looks too young to be swinging that war hammer around. Her movements are slow, but her laughter and wit is quick enough to make up for it, and all she needs is one blow before her foes are down and out.

Leeva:

A silent, stalking figure in the woods. Large, dark blue eyes that watch you through thick, curly hair, and an impeccable aim that doesn’t miss.
